The nation’s favourite teddy bear has been delighting generations of children for nearly 100 years. Milne’s classic children’s stories – featuring Piglet, Eeyore, Christopher Robin and, of course, Pooh himself – are gently humorous while teaching lessons about friendship and kindness.
Pooh ranks alongside other beloved character such as Paddington Bear, and Peter Rabbit as an essential part of our literary heritage. Whether you’re 5 or 55, Pooh is the Bear for all ages.
I will never be bored of new tales of Winnie the Pooh and friends. This was so so sweet. I loved it.
Winnie the Pooh about a gift he'd been given: "If you don't mind," he said, quietly, "I'll take this home with me and then, when I'm quite ready, I might open it. Or I might not. Having a Secret Surprise to open is my best thing in the world." And with that, he trotted home, clutching the little parcel ever so carefully in his paws. Christopher Robin smiled as he watched Pooh leave. "Silly Old Bear," he thought fondly to himself. "My best thing in the world is having you to give a Secret Surprise to."
Winter in the Wood is Riordan's latest collection of authorised tales, featuring characters created by A. A. Milne. It features 5 new tales set in the Hundred Acre Wood. They feature illustrations inspired by E. H. Shepherd, the original illustrator of the books, however these are all in colour. For little ones, or for those of us who may be a little longer in the tooth, these are a lovely way to spend more time with these adorable characters. My personal favourite is the one in which Piglet loses his voice. This collection is very sweet. As the year starts heading towards Christmas, and the days are getting shorter and colder, these tales perfectly capture some of the wonder of this time of year. Although I am holding off reading some of my other Christmas reads, this one was perfect for a change in style and tempo after reading my spooky season reads.
This is my first none AA Milne Winnie The Pooh book and I have to say I was underwhelmed.
Here we return to the Hundred Acre Wood for a collection of new short stories inspired by the original Winnie The Pooh books. These stories are set exclusively in winter and see the animals preparing for winter’s arrival, dealing with illness, experiencing Christmas and trying to stay awake for New Year’s Eve. All the well loved characters are here from Christopher Robin through to Kanga and Roo.
However, while Jane Riordan tells a good story, the original voice is missing. Tigger doesn’t seem quite so Tiggerish and spends more time spinning than bouncing, and Piglet has lost his stutter. Rabbit does a lot of running around but doesn’t seem to be as grumpy as he does in the originals and Eeyore is just not quite as negative.
The stories are reasonably good and I did enjoy them but I just didn’t get the same feeling as from the originals. Kids will love them and probably won’t see the difference between this and the original series – except perhaps with the illustrations that are a tiny bit lacking too.
To sum it up best, it’s a bit like a fake designer bag – good but just not quite the same.
Winnie-The-Pooh: Winter In The Wood - Jane Riordan, Mark Burgess (Illustrator)
Winnie-The-Pooh is one of my favourite Disneys of all time, with Tigger being my favourite character, closely followed by Pooh himself. What a pretty front cover, fitting for Winter ❤️ and the Illustrations fit perfectly. Both Jane Riordan and Mark Burgess have done an outstanding job with these short stories suitable for any Winnie-The-Pooh fan. 👏
Story 1 - In which there are whispers about winter A minor misunderstanding causes all the friends to start making little ‘somethings’ for Winter. ❄️ 🥰
Story 2 - In which a bear is very shy indeed What an untalkative bear indeed. 🐻 ☃️
Story 3 - In which piglet loses his voice A nice dose of hot honey and lemon makes everything better. 🍯 🍋
Story 4 - In which Christopher goes the wrong way and everyone is surprised Ahh the total joy of Christmas, what a wonderful time. 🎄🎁
Story 5 - In which everyone looks forward and some look back That’s one way to gather all of your friends. 🕰️ 🎉
So glad I picked this up! You can’t get much more nostalgic than being immersed in the Hundred Acre Wood. It’s the perfect read for the winter months, leaving you feeling warm and wholesome. A delightful escape into childhood memories.
Loved the small adventures that pooh and his friends got to do. Drawings are done nicely. Only minus was that not every character got as much mentioned in the book. Still loved it tho! For hugh winnie the pooh fans, this is your book!
I bought this with my boyfriend as our first little memento of our relationship and it was absolutely adorable. We read to each other and we bonded over this adorable read 💖
A sweet collection of Milne-inspired stories about the Pooh Crew in winter. Perhaps the most heartwarming depicts Christopher Robin sharing Christmas with them.
This book was truly lovely to read. It's a really beautiful book from the cover to the pictures throughout. I loved reading the stories and going on a journey with Winnie the Pooh and his friends. This is definitely a book to treasure.
