About the author

Yevgeny Veltistov (Russian: Евгений Велтистов) was a Soviet writer and screenwriter, who wrote a series of science fiction tales for young readers.

Veltistov is famous for being the lead author of a Soviet children's science fiction series about the boy-robot Electronic, who is a copy of student Syroezhkin. Novels about Electronic include "Electronic - the Boy from the Suitcase" (1964), "Ressi - elusive friend " (1970, 1971), "Victor of the Impossible" (1975), and "The New Adventures of Electronic" (1984, rerelease - 1988). The first two novels received a popular telefilm adaptation.

Among Veltistov's other works related to science fiction, is the story of a dead end, which grants fantastic "Wish fulfillment", "Gum-Gum", 1970, as well as the collection of stories, fairy tales - "A million and a day Holiday" (1979), " Class and extracurricular adventures extraordinary graders" (1985).

Among adult science fiction works are the story of the near future - "Sip of the Sun, Notes of programmer Snegova March" (1967), which tells of the arrival of the Solar System alien computer controlled spaceship, and the novel The Nocturne emptiness (1988), describing the conspiracy of the imperialists that threaten humanity with climate war, previously published along with the story in the previous one volume - a collection of Nocturne emptiness. A breath of the Sun (1982).

During my first reading of this book I was amazed by how the movie version had improved on some of the story points in this series, giving them more colour if not being specific in exploring little details the books were packed with. They're truly fascinating and knowledgeable details that spark imagination and give the information to think about, which I was and am grateful for!



There're a few rare examples when I love a film version more than a book. I have watched - based on the first two books in the series - film first as a seven year old kid and it had instantly become my favourite and a must during the summer months!
The story itself and Yevgeniy Migunov's illustrations are fantastic, I think I was ten or eleven when I picked the first book up, which up to this day remains my most favourite from this series. Would love to re-visit all the 4 stories again :)

Elektronic is somewhere in between AGI and ASI, I guess... 🤔 It certainly looked appealing for a kid to have such a friend :) But what is really important is that Elektronic had the ability to create a friendly atmosphere around him and was fun to be with, also not only the intelligence he's had but the heart, too. And what could be more important than that?

Ο Ελεκτρόνικ είναι ένα ρομπότ που έχει φτιαχτεί καθ' οικόνα και ομοίωση... ενός εφήβου.
Μοιραία, κάποια στιγμή το αγόρι και το ρομπότ συναντιούνται και τότε αρχίζει να μαθαίνει ο ένας από τον άλλο...

Ни фантастика, ни искусственный интеллект меня совершенно не интересуют, но если и есть на свете робот моего сердца, то это, конечно же, Электроник — привет из прекрасного детского далека, где паруса и галстуки алые, а вера в добро мощна как “Крылатые качели” в исполнении школьного хора )

Фильм фокусируется на детях, их проблемах и радостях, дружбе и шалостях. Мы видим уже готового робота и следим за его приключениями среди людей. В книге, напротив, все вертится вокруг науки. Взрослые персонажи обсуждают достижения кибернетики и прогнозируют ее развитие, демонстрируя неизбежный для советского времени технооптимизм. Несколько глав посвящены истории создания и “воспитания” Электроника. Нет, юмору тут тоже есть место, но это юмор взрослого человека.

“Я всегда говорил, что для чересчур резвых детей надо открыть школу с усиленной программой по черчению.”

Дальше больше! Сыроежкин в фильме враль, оболтус и двоечник, в книге же он учится в школе кибернетиков, увлечен математикой и конструированием механизмов. Он мечтает создать себе робота, чтобы делегировать ему бытовую работу по дому (!) и кто из нас будет его осуждать?!

Почти за каждым культовым советским детским фильмом стоит зачастую малоизвестная книжка. И это ровно тот случай, когда фильм лучше книги.

Эмоциональный крен киноадаптации мне нравится гораздо больше, она глубоко гуманистическая по сути в противовес технологичности книги. Электроник сбежал не потому что у него сработал механизм, а потому что захотел стать человеком ❤️ В книге он скрипуче смеется и так учится эмоциям, которые не счел нужным заложить в него профессор Громов, а в фильме он испытывает настоящие человеческие чувства и плачет… Если нам и нужен ИИ, то только такой.

Возможно стоило читать до просмотра фильма, но впечатлений книга не произвела больших.
