This is my fave MMF book ever and it's out tomorrow!
If you don't read MMF books and want to try one, then I'd recommend this series. For me, the first book was good, the second book was FAB! It's not a straight up erotica, it's got a strong lead female, it's got friendship and romance. It's REALLY worth a read.

Well wow, though the first book was good, the second one was great. We got to see much more emotion and insight. This book easily is my fave MMF book.
'Crossing the Lines' is not heavy on the BDSM (of which I’m glad), the sexual aspects are much more about the realistic workings of a Dom/sub relationship. It's not a blatant erotica, or heavily concentrated on kink. It's very much about love.
We get to know the characters a lot more in this 2nd book. I enjoyed them a lot more, Henry was more open, Jay reveals more about his past and Alice begins to feel the pull of love.
You can always tell you're reading something good when you actually get the physical emotional reactions that the characters are experiencing. And I totally did.

Sometimes, I come across a story that become an obsession, that I enjoy so much that I just do not want it to end.
Neighborly Affection series is one of them. I purposely says series because Crossing the Lines is book #2 of Neighborly Affection series and it must be read in order, after Playing the Game.
I am trying to sort it out my emotions right now because I just finished reading the last line and I am still in awe. I was with Playing the Game but Crossing the Lines made the story way more powerful since it is the continuity of the story. I have also no doubt that Neighborly Affection 3, Healing the Wounds, which will be released around july 2014 will be as much incredible. And it makes totally sense. Book 1 is Meet & Date, Book 2 is Date & Love and Book 3 should be Love & Collared in my opinion.
In the first book, we met Henry, Jay and Alice. We could say that it is Alice’s story since it is written from the heroine’s perspective only. I already mentioned it, I generally have a hard time to fall for the males characters if I do not read their POV. However, I truly believe that the story would have not been that powerful if I read Henry and Jay’s POV. Not saying it would have diminished the emotions I felt, but I would have certainly not been so enthralled by the heroine, Alice.
I am not sure if I can dare to say that I completely related to the heroine and understood her so well that it was pretty scary. Her insecurities were totally mine. I swallowed them. I assimilated them. They were just mine. M.Q. Barber described her as a woman who think too much, who is afraid of rejection, who analyze every details, who refuse to admit she can love or be loved. Alice’s character has so many emotional issues that only the patience of a man could remove all the layers that blinded her.
This is an incredible D/s story but not much physical although I did find some very hot sex scenes. It was more about connection, about knowledge of self, about patience and understanding.

I honestly believe that this story goes further than a romance and many women will question themselves about their own needs and sexuality. Being a submissive is not something we discover in books but if a story can make someone think and decide to “cross the lines”, it is important to open the door correctly. A lot of romances I read portray the Doms like white knights and prince charming. Sorry, not my cup of tea. I get it that some women love them that way and have no intention to enter the lifestyle. But for someone like me who know a little bit in real life, I am looking for this kind of D/s story. I want to read some truth in it mixed with the romance.
And this is exactly what you will get with Neighborly Affection series. I can promise you, if you are genuinely curious about the lifestyle, no matter if you are experienced or a newbie… you WILL love this story!.

The stakes are higher for Alice in her games with Henry and Jay. Sure, she's getting plenty of mind-blowing sex from her partners with the benefit of friendship on non-game days, but for how long? Henry and Jay share a deep emotional connection, but where does she fit in? Does she even want to fit in? Love was never what she intended in their arrangement, and the idea both thrills and terrifies her.
As with the first book, I found the internal struggle and psychology of the characters fascinating and gripping. We get more insight into the inner workings of enigmatic dom Henry, but make no mistake - those moments of vulnerability in no way diminish his power or mystique. In fact, the contrast between Henry and abusive dom Cal (a worthy antagonist you'll love to hate) illustrate Henry's true strength. Add in the story behind Jay's struggle as a submissive and Alice's growth into a budding dom, and you've got one hell of a great read. Hot enough to satisfy BDSM fans with an intelligence and heart to broaden it's appeal, this is a great story that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning to find out what happens next!

Ready to go for a ride?
Hold on TIGHT!
Oh my god this BOOK, this SERIES!! Right from the get-go, things do not go the way you would expect from the ending of the first book. We are shoved face first into emotional upheaval by a phone call from Henry to Alice. Our fave dom is not having a good day and very soon none of us are.
The members of the ménage à trois are the same wonderful bunch, never fear. Our sweet puppy boy toy Jay is also as friendly and sexy as ever. We explore his damaged side far more in this book, though, and that culminates in a shocking finale that made me a bit ill.
All in all, this was an amazing book, even though I was crying less than two chapters in. Henry and Alice are so alike and far too stubborn for their own good. Alice, in a misguided attempt to protect herself and Henry, in an equally misguided attempt to respect her boundaries. I wanted to shake them both multiple times in this book and you could tell Jay was feeling the same way, but he's nicer than me. lol
But, you ask, what about the goddamn SEX? Is this erotica or not? Well, yes, yes it is and the sex is effing brilliant and original as usual. And so very, very HOT.
Oh yeah.
Fair warning, though. We venture into public sex on this outing, at a club Henry is a member of. No, this doesn't involving any cheating between the three, but I have to confess I didn't care for it. The emotional connection between Jay, Alice and Henry is so intense, it felt almost, IDK, disrespectful to their bond to go there.
But believe me, a gut-wrenching lesson is learned at the club, one that will take everyone some time to recover from.
But it's so worth it, I just love this series and the characters. On to Book Three!!!

I was on the verge of giving it 4 stars but the ending and all the sex made me lean into a 5. The sex kept getting hotter and hotter! I liked when Henry took Alice to the bdsm club and new characters were introduced. And in the end i even got my happy ending, even though it seemed like it wouldn't happen. The story did lag a bit for me in the beginning but not for long.

OH MY GOD!!! I absolutely loved this book. It is a must read to continue the amazing story of Alice, Henry and Jay. Deeper feelings are revealed and deeper secrets are revealed. MQ Barber is an amazing author and I highly recommend!!!!

I do love well written erotica, that which has a good story, and doesn't just rely on page after page after page of sex to try to fill content. I hadn't read the first in this series, but this looked promising so I settled in to read. Its a great story, a gentle interlude into how the sex contract between the trio is working.
Henry is a Dom, not a harsh, bullying, heavy handed one but a gentle, subtle, thoughtful man who really looks to what Alice and Jay need. Jay's been with him a while now, and still needs Henry's help to get over a brief, but very bad experience with a bullying Dom. Alice moved in to the apartment next to theirs 20 months ago, and has been under the D/s contract 8 months now. She's finding that though it suited her at first, she wants more, but is so afraid of offending Jay and Henry, fearing she's intruding and will lose what they have. It means she's struggling, and I loved the way Henry senses that – as he seems to instinctively know what they both need all the while – and how he deals with it. Jay is lovely, Alice describes him as like an overgrown puppy and that’s really apt. His enthusiasm for everything bubbles over, his mouth runs at a mile a minute, and he's such a contrast to Henry who considers the consequences of everything before he speaks or acts. Sometimes though the best laid plans and all that.....
There's some hot and sensual sex scenes. Some BDSM scenes in a club showing just how things can go wrong so easily, and how lucky they are to have Henry who doesn’t need to show the world his control, its enough for him that it keeps the three of them happy. There's some humour and some times when I could have cried for poor Alice, wanting more and yet terrified of tipping the boat, and losing what she had. Its so easy to get confused with miscommunication too, and this is shown really well here. Its not a heart stopping romance, but a gentle progression building on what they have and I loved it. Its priced at £2.68 for 255 pages and is one I’d happily re read.

There is something about this series that has me hooked. I can not quite place what it is. Sometimes I think it is the depth of the characters and the fact that they feel real. Sometimes I think it is because Jay, Henry, and Alice are in some ways so different from one another, but deep down they each have their own insecurities and vulnerabilities making them also very much alike. Sometime I think it is because it is hotter than hot. Whatever the reason, this series remains my favorite triad series. It takes a lot for a book to stay with me after months of reading other books, but that is exactly what this series does. I *may* be a bit stalkerish on the authors FB page waiting for updates on the next release.
In Crossing The Line, Alice realizes she wants more. In fact, she wants it all, but struggles with taking the risk to let Jay and Henry know her true feelings. Her insecurities leave them in a holding pattern. Little does she know that the others are feeling similarly. With the risk of being spoilery, I want to say that free spirit and sometimes silly Jay is my hero. He sees more and understands more about the group dynamic than even Henry, who is supposed to be "in charge". I love that. It really shows how the power balance in a BDSM relationship is not really all about the master.
If you have not read book one, this book is going to feel like it is missing something. The author did a beautiful job building both the characters and the relationship in Playing The Game that this book will probably fall flat for you if you have not read it. If you are a fan of this series you are going to want to read this one. Probably twice it is that good. Oh and once you finish this one, she has a free short, "Three-Way Tie" on Goodreads you will want to snag. It does contain spoilers to this book, so do not read it first :) .

I loved this book. It keeps getting better and better. The trio of new lovers grows continually in this book as Jay is hurt forcing Alice to spend more time with the guys and trying to find her place in the agreement. When Alice goes back to her apartment only to find the power has gone out in a snowstorm. Instead of spending her week serrate from them she moves across the hall until the power comes back on. Alice is in love with Henry and is afraid to tell him, and she wants the relationship to be real. She has no idea how long Henry has plotted to get her to this level of commitment to him because he loves her too. Alice finally realizes that Henry loves her as well as Jay when and he fears losing both of them as he ages. The long night ends with some satisfying conversations, new understandings, and a long term commitment that proves to Alice once and for all that she is loved. When Henry says Welcome home Alice........... I sighed and got teary. It's been a long, long, road for Alice and I'm happy for her.

I was asked by Lyrical Press if I'd like to review this book as an ARC reader. I hadn't read the first book so this was stand alone story for me reading it. Having no previous knowledge of Alice, Jay, and Henry's relationship I thought M.Q. Barber did a beautiful job with this story.
Alice has Friday dinners with the men at their apartment but she seeks more. Barber does a wonderful job showing the emotional conflict she faces within herself. She struggles to accept just Fridays but begins to wonder what it would be like to have everyday with them.
Jay was one of my favorite characters, it's not often that a writer can capture the insecurities of a man. You can clearly see that Henry is Jay's savior and I love that Barber explains how they found each other. In parts of this story, my heart reaches out towards Jay as we learn of his Pre-Henry days and how Henry saved him.
Henry has a firm hand and clearly is the Head of the relationship. He makes sure that everyone follows the rules. At first, I wasn't his biggest fan but as I watched him through the story I came to love and adore him. He is firm but has a soft spot for Alice and Jay. To me, Henry has this need for control. I think without the lifestyle he would be a lost soul.
Crossing The Lines is a beautifully written story about control, the emotional battle raging within, and the need for healing. M.Q. Barber captured the emotional aspect perfectly plus sprinkled in some kinky sex as well. I look forward to going back and reading the first book. My only complaint is that I'd like to delve more into Henry's past, maybe in the next book?

So what did I think about this book? I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. I can't get enough of Alice, Jay and Henry.
This is the sequel to Playing the Game. Where the first book for me was a happy book, where Alice join Jay and Henry in their every-other friday bed-activities, this book took me through several emotional stages - the happy, joyful, playful, hurting, teary and angry.
In this book you will get to know Alice, Jay and Henry on a more deeper level than in the first book. You will get to learn more about Jay and Henrys relationship, you will see Alice struggle with her emotions towards Jay and Henry. She is jealous after the kind of relationship she can see between Jay and Henry - the affection, tenderness, caring, devotion, passion and love. Is there room for Alice in Jay and Henrys relationship? Means Alice more to Jay and Henry than just 'playing games' every-other friday?
What will happen if she cross the line and ask Henry for more than just every-other friday? Will Henry extend their agreement to more time together or will he terminate their contract? And dare she ask for more?

This is the continuation of Alice, Henry and Jay. Alice knows for a fact that being with Henry and Jay was the best decision that she has ever made. The only conflict is that the more time she spends with them the more she begins to feel things. Emotions run high when certain events bring them together on non-contract nights. Alice begins to question whether or not she will continue to be able to check her feelings at the door Alice has a decision to make, but will she have the guts to actually speak up and tell the guys what she actually wants/needs from their arrangement?
I didn’t write the review right after finishing the book because I wanted to stew and figure out what I wanted to say but I am still having difficulties collecting my thoughts. I have to say that I really liked this book. Just like Playing the Game, I was captivated and hooked the entire time. I finished the book in less than two days because I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry that MQ Barber is able to capture between Henry, Jay and Alice is remarkable. I am definitely looking forward to Healing the Wounds (Neighborly Affection #3). The only problem is that I will have to wait awhile for it to come out. I definitely recommend giving the Neighborly Affection a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

I didn’t write the review right after finishing the book because I wanted to stew and figure out what I wanted to say but I am still having difficulties collecting my thoughts. I have to say that I really liked this book. Just like Playing the Game, I was captivated and hooked the entire time. I finished the book in less than two days because I couldn’t put it down. This was an interesting book that I think I would have gotten more out of if I would have read the first book in the series.
When I picked this up I didn't know it was a continuation of a story so I felt kind of dropped into the middle of things and had a hard time getting a feel for the characters right away.
I felt like I was just getting into the swing of things when the book was over.
The dominant in this book, Henry, read like a professor who was constantly in teaching or doting older man role. The submissive, Jay, seemed like a gamboling puppy that was happily clomping about only awaiting orders from his master.
Alice was quite the thinker and seemed to be at odds with herself throughout the entire novel until the very end.
Even at the last page I'm left unsure if there is going to be yet another book to this series or if it is over with this title.
The steam factor was high and I loved how truly loving Henry and Jay were but I felt pulled out of the scenes by Henry's need to call Jay, "My dear boy" and end every order or sentence with "Hmm?".
I do think this book has a place and an audience but people would certainly benefit from reading the first title in this series before picking up the second.

Yes, I will definitely read the next instalment in this series especially if it's as good as Crossing the Lines. I am really excited to learn more about how things will turns out for them. I think I enjoyed this one even more than "Playing the Game".
Here, the author made me fall in love with these interesting characters who completes each other perfectly. I loved them individually but together they were wonderful. They may be an unusual couple but they're so sweet together I didn't even care. I don't use to read MMF because I enjoy better MFM, but I loved this one. The sex was hot and steamy but it wasn't just about sex and we had also glimpses of their backgrounds. I liked reading how Alice struggled with her feelings and wasn't sure about where she belonged. The author builded the romance beautifully.
Overall, a really good series to check out if you enjoy that kind of book.

After reading the first book in this series, Playing the Game, I wanted to get my own Henry & Jay. Now, I really, really, really want my own set!
This series just keeps getting better. As Alice spends more time with the guys, she starts to feel things she never felt before - attachment, jealousy, wanting something more. But, she has a contract to live by, which doesn't give her the right for these other things, at least that's how she sees it. Even though Henry has told her to come to him with anything related to their relationship, Alice doesn't feel she has the right to ask for more. I could feel Alice's pain and at times the story almost brought me to tears. We get to learn a bit more about these characters outside of their every-other-Friday-night get together and I liked all of them even more. I was so bummed to realize the next installment isn't out for another week - I can't wait for the continuation of their story!

This is book two of a series and I am kicking myself for reading them out of order. M.Q. Barber's finely honed writing skills really shine in this book, her characters are vivid and three dimensional. This was M/M/F menage at its best; written with dignity and respect to the lifestyle. The concentration is on interpersonal relationships, love and character growth; again Ms. Barber hits a home run. I became emotionally engaged and attached to the characters, they felt that real. The sex scenes were passionate and sensual without being salacious. They served a purpose; either creating conflict, cementing relationships, or simply moving the well plotted story along.
Oh, and book one? Definitely get book one, it sets the scene and the character development and growth that occurs is so so rich.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!! This was even better than the first in this series. Jay and Henry and Alice are HOT together and that COVeR OoMMMGg!!! Sexy! Just plain SEXY! Alice does have some emotional issues. Trying to fit puzzle pieces together, all nice and neat. I really want to read the next in this series. Henry does the Dominant role well. Sweet and strong and very in tuned with their needs. Things from their past play more of a role and it really gets interesting towards the end. So much so that I feel slighted that we were not given more at the end. HEA is nice, but we all know there is more for them in store. A little epilogue ...maybe??? A Tease??? LOL..oh well I will wait for the next. Really a must read. You won't be disappointed!

Like Playing the Game, Crossing the Lines had me spellbound from the very first page. Henry, Jay and Alice are just magnificent. The build up was wonderful. I enjoyed seeing each character work through his/her own issues. I also enjoyed Jay getting the opportunity to be the "hero" for a change and not necessarily the needy one of the relationship.

Our favorite three our back and it is even better then the first book I read. Henry, Jay, and Alice all battle with there own issues about their "situation" But they are having fun while they do it. :) M.Q Barber does a great job with each person and their thoughts on each other. This book goes just a little deeper in to the feelings of Jay and Henry's feelings towards Alice and Alice's feelings towards Henry and Jay. But of course they are having fun along the way. :) I would have to say that if you have not read this book Crossing the Lines or the first book Playing the Game you are missing out. Because once you get just a little taste of Henry you will never get enough. He is one of my top fictional boyfriends and no matter what I just cannot get enough of Henry! :)

Know what's better than a good book? A second book in the same series that's even better. Not kidding. I sucked this thing down (much to the dismay of everyone personally and professionally waiting on something from me) in a super short time frame. I did manage to stop reading long enough to feed my kids and get 8 hours of sleep, but that was about it.
The thing that's great about this series is the character development. You're right there with Alice as she develops, like its you instead of her. Ok, so maybe the characters themselves are pretty awesome...and so not the norm. If you want something different, deep, and hot, read this series. Looks like I only have until June 2, 2014 for the 3rd in the series. :)

If you are contemplating reading this book, don't read this before you read Playing the Game as you will feel like you have been dropped into the middle of a movie without any background. This is definitely a book that should be read RIGHT after the first installment.
And yes, this was a fabulous read. With CROSSING THE LINES, we are exploring the depths of this triad's relationship. It was so good to see how each of the players expressed their self doubts in the relationship, how the each moved and maneuvered toward making them blend so well together.
Personally I can't wait until the next installment is out!

Even hotter than the first one and with a surprising amount of emotional depth as we learn a little about Jay's past before Henry and a traumatic experience he had when he started out as a Sub. The emotional core of the book is Alice learning to trust her feelings of love for Henry and Jay as being more than sexual and her fears about whether they feel the same way for her or if she is just a distraction. Like the first book there are plenty of sex scenes, ranging from the sensual to the more rough and tumble. If you are looking for a sexy read with excellent characterisation and more understanding and knowledge of BDSM relationships (Safe, Sane and Consensual) I strongly recommend this book.

Jay, Henry and Alice are back and sexier and hotter then ever. Each character is trying to figure out the meaning or feelings in their sub/Dom three way relationship and what the future may hold. This book is just as sexy but with more emotions hanging out there. Alice's emotions especially. She doesn't want to give this relationship up, she's more than fulfilled but she also has a deeper connection with these two guys and she can't loose that either. I don't want to give too much away but I know you'll be just as hooked as I was in this story and cannot wait to read book 3. What was missing
I read the first story to this series and while I thought it was a good storyline and plot, I felt it lacked something though I couldn’t quite put my finger on what “it” was. Now, I know. Each of the characters needed to get outside of their heads and convey their needs. Alice, Jay and Henry are coming into themselves and their places within their triad and realizing their needs. Alice helps Jay, Jay helps Alice AND Henry understand that because they are more alike than they are different, they may not have been the best in their communication with one another. Once they came to the pinnacle of truth, emotion of different varieties, arousal and understanding envelop their growing union. I knew the story could get better and by golly, did it. :D.

This book was a lot different from book one not by a lot but it definitely got a lot better. M.Q. Barber, Is there going to be a third book? I really do hope so!
Henry is perfect but he's a tough one to crack, he is a great Dom and usually seems to always be in his role in one way or another. But as in book one where you didn't see much emotion from him you do here in book two, I appreciated that. Jay is very flirty and playful yet still needs guidance and is always eager to please both Henry and Alice. Alice is very smart and funny and she banters well with both men, but in this book you see her grow a lot. In book one she never thought love was possible because she never found that right person to bring it out but in book two she does. I know that sort of story has been worn out but I enjoyed this. Even though Alice struggles in this book she's not mopey and all "woe is me", she was still strong and didn't hide too much.

Crossing the Lines by MQ Barber was another hot read that has me anxious for the next book!
While this book didn't live up to the first book, man was it definitely hotter in the sexiness department. MQ stepped up the game, with more sexy-time, more conflict, and more heartbreaks/feelings! I have so many feels after reading this!
There are so many reasons why I loved this book, so here's a list:
1. Alice is an incredibly strong female lead!
2. Jay is adorable, even though he's kind of unrealistic the way he acts (like a puppy).
3. Henry is hot. Kind of Christian Grey-esque, but damn is he still hot.
4. Lots of hot, sexy scenes. And I mean lots. I'd say to many, but there's never enough when MQ is writing.
5. Evil bad guy Cal.
6. More emotions/realistic situations involving feelings with Alice's internal struggle.
7. I fell in love with the characters all over again.
Now for what I didn't like:
1. The public, club scene...it wasn't sexy. It was kind of annoying that after all the ups and downs, this scene had to kind of ruin the climatic ending.
2. I felt like the conflict of the story was kind of...lame. It didn't seem fitting compared to the amazing highs of the novel - but I have this feeling MQ will tear my heart out with a future book, since it is a series.
Overall, I loved it! I want the next book right now!! I need it! This series is going to kill my poor heart because it's so good!

This story was tough to get through. First I didn't realize it was Book 2 of a 3 Book series.
The character development of the primary Dom was really interesting. He never displayed a streak of cruelty, but just caring and love to his two subs. The young woman who has joined the this 2 male couple, is always questioning herself, and her motivation, but keeps it all to herself, instead of opening up with the men she plays with.
Disappointing that we learn of some of the kinky sex scenes after they are past, and the characters are discussing their feelings about the scene. I would have enjoyed being part of those.
The story mostly focused on the developing relationships on an emotional and caring level. The story was much more on that ethereal level, whereas I was looking for something more physical. When I heard the story was about 2 men and 1 woman, I was looking for heavy menage sex scenes. Yes they were there, but again there was more emotion in the scene than physical.
This just wasn't for me.

Crossing the Lines is the most angst-filled book so far and one of my personal favorites. This is where the poly relationship truly begins, and Alice finally realizes she's in love with both Henry (Dom) and Jay (co-sub).
It's been 20 months since Alice moved into the apartment building where Henry and Jay live, and eight months since she signed a contract to start a D/s/s relationship with them.
For Alice, learning to love has been a slow and painful process. Henry and Jay did a wonderful job guiding her and showing her what a loving relationship looks like. They had incredible patience waiting for her to accept their love, which wasn't easy.
At a key moment, Alice panics and uses her safeword, which leads to a heartbreaking breakup. Playful and puppy-like Jay, is the one who brings her back to their bed where she belongs. Her reconciliation with Henry is one of my favorite scenes 🥹.
A Dramatic Scene: Their first trip together to the BDSM club goes wrong when the subs run into Jay's former, sadistic Dom. It's been three years and Jay is still recovering from his past horrific abuse. The MCs leave in a traumatized state. In the end, Henry and Alice share heartfelt "I love yous," and Alice agrees to move in with them.
The poly relationship continues to grow and deepen. Henry is an incredible Dom who takes good care of his subs. I felt the strong bond and love between the three of them. Add in several well-written, steamy sex scenes. ❤️🔥
