With Halloween just around the corner, the gang at the bistro decide to go all out with the food, decorations, and special events. When one of their regular customers ends up dead, Shelby enlists Dawson and Beck's help in an effort to determine if the man's untimely death was accident or murder.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Mummies and Moonshine is the eighth book in Kathi Daley’s Bistro at Holiday Bay series. There are quite a few familiar characters, along with new ones, since this is this spin-off series from Ms. Daley’s Inn at Holiday Bay series. The well-plotted storyline flows smoothly, the setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. The murder mystery in this installment is intriguing and complex, with no shortage of twists, turns, or red herrings. I highly recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted, cozy mysteries.
Shelby Morris learned that she not only had two half-sisters, Sage Wilson and Sierra Danielson, but that the grandmother they didn’t even know existed had passed away, leaving them cash, personal property, and a mansion and grounds worth millions of dollars. The sisters decided Shelby would move to Holiday Bay, Maine, to live in and care for the house and grounds. When Shelby Morris and her friend, talented chef, and business partner, Amy Hogan, discovered a local bar and restaurant, the Bistro at Holiday Bay, was for sale, the two friends decided to go into business together. Shelby and Dawson have recruited a new dining room manager, Rosalyn Montgomery, with impressive credentials.
In this installment, the Bistro is preparing for a blowout Halloween celebration. Amy and Cambria are busy preparing unique Halloween-themed appetizers, while the entire staff, especially Dawson, has spared no effort in decorating. In addition to the Halloween festivities, it’s also homecoming weekend, attracting numerous alums back to town. When the body of a local lobsterman, Buck Benson, is found on the sand beneath the pier that separates the commercial marina from the public beach, with a gash on his head, Shelby, Dawson, and Beck join Colt and Alex to ascertain whether the man’s death was accidental or if foul play was involved.
Halloween's coming and the gang at the Bistro has gone all out for the holiday. When one of their regulars winds up dead, Shelby and Dawson get with Beck to investigate. Was the man's death accidental or murder?
I love Kathi Daley's books and this one was no exception. This is one of Kathi's newer series which was a spinoff of the Inn at Holiday Bay and I have really enjoyed it. This book was well-written with well-developed characters and an intriguing, clean mystery. It was a quick, fun read that drew me in and kept me hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely loved this book and am looking forward to the next one. I highly recommend both book and series.
Another enjoyable visit to Holiday Bay. This time we visit the Bistro and catch up with Shelby, Dawson and a short visit with Shelby's sister, Sage. This mystery centers around Halloween activities and homecoming activities in Holiday Bay with a mysterious death. The twists kept me engaged in the mystery; but it was also fun to catch up with several of the residents that have become more than friends. That's one of the reasons I enjoy this series - friends become family and this small community feels like home. The twist to the death caught me by surprise which made this a fun read.
I like Kathi Daley, I have read all the books in the Bistro series to date and enjoyed everyone. Dawson is a strong character and helpful in many ways. The team at the Bistro are a close knit group and they love their shop and town and jump in when needed to solve a crime. Kathi Daley's other series that I have read are The Inn at Holiday Bay and The Bookstore at Holiday Bay and I have read all of the books to that series except for newest one and some are just waiting fir me to read and others I am just waiting for them to be released. You can't go wrong g with this author. Great reads
Excellent writing by Kathi Daley. Her books are always a joy to read. In this edition, Shelby has a new dining room manager, or is she an all over manager. Some are a little miffed. Then one of the lobster fishermen is found dead. Was it accident or murder!?? Follow Shelby, Dawson and other as they gather info. In addition to the murder, what should Shelby do....does the new manager have her eye on Dawson? And does he reciprocate? Uh oh.
A good story. A little Halloween, an interesting death and a little romance thrown in. I like how characters from both the other series always show up in these spin-off books. I was afraid with all the talk about Georgia's wedding that it was going to happen in this book. I hope it is going to be done in The Inn series. The woman and the moonshine didn't really get resolved as far as I was concerned.
There is the mystery surrounding the death of a local man. But the really great part is the ongoing and evolving relationships of the people at the Bistro, specifically Dawson and Shelby in this book. And it's also interesting that others from various series drop in, too.
An interesting mystery, which kept me reading. However, I did find the writing fairly clunky at times. I enjoyed it, even though it was a long way into a series, and I haven't read any of the other books. I did feel a little lost in all the characters which had obviously been introduced in previous books.
Interesting situation with mostly the same characters as the prior books trying to verbally solve the murder.
Amazon synopsis: With Halloween just around the corner, the gang at the bistro decides to go all out with the food, decorations, and special events. When one of their regular customers ends up dead, Shelby enlists Dawson and Beck's help in an effort to determine if the man's untimely death was an accident or murder. While the question might be simple the answer will turn out to be anything but.
Exploring feelings while looking at a possible murder.
Sierra snd Scott visit Shelby, during the visit Buck is found dead and thevquestion of how that happened is explored by Shelby, Dawson, Colt and others. I like how the characters from other Kathi Daley series are mentioned in other series. It makes reading the different series more enjoyable.
I enjoyed this mystery. The pace of the story is good , and the story is well-written. As the Bristo is being prepared for Hallowe'en, a death occurs. Was it murder or an accident? Plenty of twists, turns, and red-herrings. The characters are good. The story kept me guessing.
As always a lovely book to read. The right amount of mystery, great characters and romance and the description of the town makes one want to live there. I try never to miss any of the Holliday Bay series.
I really enjoyed getting to know what Shelby thought about Dawson a little more. I love the mystery plus family and friends interactions. A fun Halloween read. I highly recommend this book.
While solving a not murder that lead to so many other broken laws Dawson and Shelby are finally becoming an item. Kathi does a great job of intertwining the characters from all of the series. We get the story advanced through each series. Yet another great work by Kathi.
I really enjoyed this book, Kathi Daley does such a great job of captivating my attention. I love the cozy mystery, the sparks of romance and everything that is here in the book.
Even some mysterious goings on and what appears to be a murder, Shelby, Bistro owner, continues to deepen her relationship with her bar keep. Mystery & romance - great combination, great story telling!
Usually live this series but this one was a bit- I don't know it just wasn't that grand. Sorry. However I do love the series and looking forward to the next one.
I love this series and enjoy the characters in the story. When I finish, I am ready to read the next book in the series. This series is definitely a beach read and a quick read.
