This is book six of The Arrow Tactical series and the main characters are billionaire playboy Tristan Wagner, who is secretly an agent of Interpol known as Nomad, and Lucia Oliveira, who works as an executive assistant to one of the higher ups of Lumina, formerly a company his parents and grandparents owned. She is also the only link Liam has, having been the person who told Sage Watson that her sister had resigned from Lumina. Instead. Sage’s sister had been abducted by an assassin, who had been ordered to kill her. All of which was linked somehow to Lumina and testing of drugs illegally rushed through, as well as illegal experiments carried out in Cambodia. He is pretending to be spoiled trust fund kid, who hasn’t really had to work, but now may have to in order to get his trust fund. His own mother introduces him to Nelson Plutz, Lucia’s immediate boss, and long-time friend as such of his mother, who has asked Nelson to take him on as a favour for her. Whilst pretending to work there, he has to try and figure out which employee was responsible for the attacks on Sloane and Sage Watson, as well as a number of former employees of Lumina, who have suddenly died in the recent months. His first warning from his mother is to not get involved with the assistant, strange since his parents met back in the day!
He is going to be fining out way more about his parent’s relationship than he wants to, by the time he is finished, as well as shocking news connected to his investigation. Lucia is an EU citizen, but not a Swiss national or resident, and knows this will stop any more advancement within Lumina, so is quietly looking for another job. All of her friends and fellow workers she knew, have all left, being on seven-year work visas. She needs a well-paid job, having been sent away from Brazil by her mother at a young age, supporting herself and working towards getting her father and brother released from prison, which is a fruitless task. She has also worked for Graeme Showmaker, who heads the HR department, and a temporary stint there is what got her on Liam’s radar. Liam is unable to resist the beautiful assistant and even though he knows he will move on in a couple of months when his investigation ends or he fails to find enough evidence, he starts seeing her. They are supposed to be keeping it under wraps and away from anyone knowing at work, but he can’t keep his eyes off her. His own father quickly realises he is seeing her and tells his mother, still sharing everything even though their marriage is in name only nowadays. Weeks go by and Liam isn’t finding much to prove who is behind everything, when Lucia misses work and when he catches up to her, she drops a bombshell. The next day she vanishes without a trace!
Liam wonders if it is connected to his own reaction to her news, whilst she thinks what has happened to her is all part of Liam’s reaction! He realises it must be connected to what he is investigating, especially as it has occurred in exactly the same manner as Sloane’s abduction, with it seeming like Lucia has resigned suddenly! He will do anything to get back the woman who he has only just now realised he loves and can’t do without. He calls his boss and asks for help tracing who took her and where, willing to break his own cover to find her! But what he uncovers will be far more shocking than he could ever have imagined and placed his own future and Lucia’s at risk. An impossible choice to continue his family’s legacy, or to be with the woman he realises he loves and actually wants to consider a future with. The many secrets he has been holding back from his own family, will soon lead him to uncovering the truth of some of those behind the illegal drug experiments in Cambodia, false test results pushed through to get drugs out into the world, and all who have become victims to their need to cover up everything illegal they have been doing and any loose ends who might reveal their wrongdoing. A tense ending with more hints at his connections with Saint, someone he has to keep secrets about to keep him safe, as he also works undercover in a far more dangerous job. Still more to be finalised with the Watson connection, but a happy move for Liam and Lucia, out of the short but extreme relationship they started in Switzerland. I look forward to reading the next and last book in this series to see how it all concludes.
