This is such a complete departure from Beth's usual genre, but wow, it's a good one. Instead of food or sports, we've got high fantasy. Good versus evil, this is how it must be done, battle to the death fantasy.
It turns out she's just as good at this type of story as any other. These two are also a bit more angsty than her others, too. The characters are full blown and colorful, the settings are all lovely. It's all there in an easily read set that keeps you invested until the end of the last story. It's well worth a few weeks in the saddle while on a quest!

Apparently Beth Bolden can do any genre she wants, because this was a fantastic fantasy duology!

In Yours, Ever After, we have the journey of Gray, a prince in hiding in an enchanted valley with only a unicorn named Evrard as company. He's been hiding since an evil sorceress tried to kill him years ago. Prince Rory has grown up sheltered in the palace at Fontaine, with his aunt ruling in his stead all these years. Even though he is now old enough to take over, she seems reticent to let him, and encourages his time with his books. Until one day when she weirdly sends him on a mission to capture bandits to bring to justice, which he is wholly unqualified for. On this journey, he finds the valley, and Gray, who captures his interest instantly. Soon his life and destiny are hopelessly intertwined with Gray's, and they are off on an epic quest to defeat an evil sorceress with their snarky unicorn Evrard.

I adored this story. I love a good fantasy novel, and this one had all the elements--royalty, an evil sorceress, a journey, magical items (and creatures)...and Beth made it gay/bi! Gray and Rory are very different, and still very cute together. This book perfectly blends all the good elements of a romance and a fantasy novel together, and it was very enjoyable to read. It also made you just curious enough to see where the second one would go!

In Yours Everlasting, we turn the protagonist gaze of Evander. Once a Guardian, an entity charged with looking after humans and imbued with many powers, he has spent the last several hundred years (or so) on Earth, powers diminished, trying to extinguish an evil sorcery threat. He has had many identities, including Evrard the unicorn and his current one, Rhys the advisor. Itching for a purpose after he thinks the threat to the humans is extinguished, he soon gets pulled into a journey that shows that the danger may be even more powerful than he'd originally believed--and it still very much alive. Joined by Marcos, the Guardian of War and a person Evander thought had betrayed him, he is off to conquer evil once and for all--and figure out why Marcos keeps making him feel strange feelings.

As I was very intrigued by Evrard/Rhys in the first book, I was thrilled to get more information on Evander and see how he came to be with the humans and why he was so determined to beat Sabrina. I also loved Marcos, who has always been underestimated by the other Guardians (including Evander) and is the most purehearted yet lethal being ever. The story here is great, with another mystery to unravel, magic to wield, and love to grow! I don't want to get into the plot of either book much here so as not to spoil either of them, but I had a great time reading these books.

I am now even more unapologetically a Beth Bolden stan, as she can do any kind of queer romance it would seem. If you like fantasy and queer romance, this is definitely worth a read!

Yours, Forever After (5/5 stars)

Gray and Rory were characters I easily connected with, and it didn't take long for me to be invested in their romance. Gray's reserved, grumpy attitude was understandable given the way he was forced to grow up, but it still made me sad to see how he tried to push everyone away. Watching him warm up to Rory was really sweet, and I loved how Rory never gave up on him. Their relationship progressed slowly, over shared meals and long stretches of time alone, but it was still exciting to see the two of them grow closer as their adventure continued. Theirs wasn't the most explosive, passionate romance, but the softer, sweeter pace felt fitting for the men they were. In addition to the slow build of their affections, Rory and Gray had a really exciting quest to embark on. I was eager to see how they would manage to defeat Sabrina after all she'd done to their kingdoms, and despite all my guesses I still didn't get it right. I was thrilled to see Rory and Gray emerge victorious, but beyond that I loved getting to see the two of them tackle the last of their relationship issues and feel secure in their future together.

Yours Everlasting (5/5 stars)

I don't read many fantasy books, but this one was seriously amazing. I felt completely transported into Marcos and Evander's world, fascinated by the little bits of lore I learned along the way, and fully captivated by their quest and budding romance.

Evander (or should I say, Evrard) was such a mysterious, infuriating character in the first book, but this story completely changed my opinion of him. I mean I thought all I had to worry about were two princes running a kingdom, but suddenly Evander's a Guardian, and actually there are 13 of them, all immortal and with different amazing powers, and within the first couple of paragraphs this story took off in a totally different direction. There's nothing that excites me more than letting an author lead me along on an adventure, and Beth Bolden wrote one of the most compelling, intriguing, interesting quests I've read in a long time. Evander was much more than the annoying, know-it-all companion I expected him to be, and I was thrilled to discover just how much was hiding behind his Rhys-shaped disguise.

As if that weren't enough, Marcos was an unexpected GEM who added a whole new level of swoon to this story. I can't even describe how delighted I was when I realized this book was a dual-narrative, just because I wanted to get inside his head. Those of you who adore Beth's emotional, slow-burn romances are in for a real treat with Marcos and Evander because holy cow did they give me the FEELS all story long. I had zero clue what to expect in a love interest for Evander, but Marcos just seemed to fit with him naturally. They both had a fierce sense of loyalty, strong calling to do what was right, and complemented each other nicely as companions. I was convinced they were soulmates before they even kissed for the first time, and while I'm a total romantic at heart, I usually require a bit more persuasion than that.

I could go into detail about the exciting reveals (because there were many), surprise character introductions (one that stood out from the rest), steamy moments (few, but well worth the wait), and heart-pounding climax (a high-stakes mix of strategy and adrenaline-induced action), but it all boils down to me telling you to go read this book because it's amazing and you're going to LOVE it.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this compilation. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

I was truly enchanted, devouring Beth Bolden’s “Enchanted Folklore, The Complete Series,” which is kinda amazing, since coming-of-age tales rarely excite me. This boxed set is in perfect order presenting its middle plot first, which gives depth to the backstory and adds excitement to its conclusion.

Prince Graham (Grey) and Prince Emory (Rory) are deprived of their kingdoms by the same sorceress. With the help of a shapeshifter, they challenge each other, themselves and their emerging relationship to win back their right to rule. This archetypal quest is enhanced by detailed world-building, characters with identifiable strengths and flaws, and many wise observations. “It was difficult to stay angry at someone who went out of their way to stop you from blaming yourself.”

Often these side bars are presented with exquisite similes or metaphors. “Regret carried claws with it and struck at his most tender, vulnerable spots.” There’s a formality to the language which carries the royal tone. Yet the books are an easy read. Ms. Bolden is a writer’s writer!

And I was completely wowed by Evander’s story, which I won’t explain to avoid revelations best learned in order. He is a Guardian, magical creatures meant to safeguard mankind. They have become complacent, drunk on their power. “You compromised your ideals, and the task we were charged with, and the very fabric of our existence, so people would worship you,” Evander charges a fellow who helped banish him to earth when Evander wanted to fulfill their mission. What a perfect parallel to some of today’s very human leaders.

Unbeknownst to Evander, another Guardian, one he’d considered a fumbling simpleton, has chosen to live on earth to protect him. In learning Marcos’ true nature, Evander must face his own, learn humility and come to trust despite his prior betrayal. And here, Ms. Bolden makes the most of their love, showing how it spurs them to mature.

Although lengthy, “Enchanted Folklore, The Complete Series,” moved quickly, drew me in to hunger for more, to discover the next twist on each man/Guardian’s epic journey and to revel in their emerging wisdom and courage. Yet, the true brilliance is when Ms. Bolden shows human frailties can also encourage heroism, if we can love and trust ourselves. Elegant prose elevates and weaves these tales into a rich tapestry worthy of any classic odyssey.

I picked this box mostly for the second book, what I surprise it was when the main character there has a big role here. I’ve already liked him before realising that, he was the one keeping the plot enigmatic and interesting, I’ve liked this character very much.
I got confused thought, the voices change, which has its reasons (It took me a lot of time to see them), but it was confusing at the beginning and annoying pretty much all the time, specially when the narrator mixed Evrard and Rhys’ voices like he did in chapter 25.
There were other weird things like addressing a king as “Your Highness” instead of “Your Majesty”—it happens a couple of times—; when in the prologue it’s said Rhys was taller and the next chapter he’s sort; or Evander distrusting Marcos when he can sense lies, resentful, alright, distrust, no so much. (Or the begging during bed scenes like in pretty much all MM romance books, why is there always begging? And why is it mostly from the bottom or the submissive?)
The big one may be that Marcos should have voted against (it makes no sense to me that he agrees), but therefore none of the two stories would have happened. So if one ignores this fact they are good stories, not what I expected—in a good way—,and I liked them. I’ll probably read the books first before listening to the audiobook again.
The narrator makes a great job with accents, and changing voices according to the appearance of the character, but sometimes he mixed or changed the voices, specially during narration parts, using character’s voices instead of narrator’s—I don’t mean inner thoughts—, it was a bit confusing. And a longer pause between pauses in chapters would’ve have been appreciated, it was there sometimes, not always though. For example, on chapter 14 they were in the throne room talking and suddenly alone in a suit of rooms.
But the way, at the end of chap 22 there’s some seconds with background sounds, the last 12 seconds in fact.

«Aren’t we all lost? (…) In our own ways?».

Lovely stories (an audio review)

I’ve listened to some of Beth Bolden’s other stories – all contemporary romances. I was thrilled to have the chance to sink into something new with her and was delighted with the result. Now, this box set is a duology. The first book, Yours, Forever After is the love story of Prince Emory and the man he falls in love with. Gray – formerly Prince Graham – wants nothing to do with the spoiled prince with his head in the clouds. Gray fought for his life as a young boy and barely survived. He’s made a good life for himself – why would he give that all up and come back from the dead? As he embarks upon a quest with Rory, though, he discovers there’s more to the young man. And, as they face perils together, the attraction grows. Guided by the steadfast and annoying king of the unicorns, Everard, the men find that – together – they can defeat Emory’s wicked aunt.

I loved everything about this story – the slow burn romance as Emory finally discovers what all those books were talking about. Gray fighting his instinct to stay hidden instead of taking his place in the fight. And the eventual outcome which was just perfect. Just a lovely story.

Yours, Everlasting is Everard story. We learned in the first book, that Everard can take many forms. I would say his most interesting is that of the unicorn king, but he’s currently Rhys. That all changes when he slips out of the castle and is joined by another shapeshifter – Marcos. Evander, Everard’s true identity, comes to the fore as he deals with the God of War. Their attraction sizzles, explodes, and then fun times occur.

The story was good, but I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Rory and Gray’s – but that’s just me. Both were well done and the duology works well.

Brennan Rossi is a strong narrator and he was perfect for these audios. No hesitation to pick up another one of his or another one of Beth’s – no matter what genre.

Audiobook review

I read both these books when they came out, and I was excited to see how they would sound on audio. I have to admit I was a little disappointed at first. The narrator seemed hesitant and careful, like he was afraid he would misspeak or stumble over the words, and I found it distracting. It got better after a few hours (it's a 22 hour book) - either he got more comfortable, or I got used to it...or the story pulled me in enough that it didn't bother me anymore. Still, I wouldn't call the narration any better than average. The story itself is engaging and entertaining, although I enjoyed the second book more than the first. It felt like there was more emotion and personal struggle in it (maybe it was the resistance and denial of their feelings). After the first book, I had many questions, but they were satisfactorily answered with the second book. I liked the way Gray and Rory and their kingdom and people were pulled into the story without revisiting/retelling the story from book I. Essentially Book II encompasses the before and after of the first book, focusing on Rhys/Evrard/Evander and his story. I found Evander a little annoying, arrogant, and (surprisingly) naive, although he does redeem and prove himself by the end. I have to say, though, that Rory and Marcos were my favorite characters of the first and second books, respectively. This is a great fantasy set, with magic, surprises, twists, friendship, abandonment, betrayal, redemption, sorcerers, mythical beasts, and - of course - a HEA ending.

I received a free copy of the audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

I'm always a fan of a box set, and this is a nice juicy one. It's only two books, but they're long books, and the audio I listened to is over 22 hours altogether. I haven't read much MM fantasy, but I used to read regular fantasy a lot.

The blurb for this book hinted at comic fantasy, I basically had to download as soon as it said snooty unicorn, but although there were a few asides that made me snigger it was mostly taken seriously. I wouldn't have minded if it had leaned a little harder into the comic fantasy, but that's a very difficult vibe to get right, so I don't mind that it wasn’t really going for laughs.

Gray and Rory were both amazing characters and their chemistry really leapt off the page. They had a yummy size difference and I really enjoyed the contrasts between them. The relationship between them and Evrard the unicorn was what kept me listening when the plot dragged a little, but happily it picked up again. Part Two was odd. It didn't feel like it fit with the rest of the book somehow, and although I liked it as a story, it didn't quite fit. Book 2 focuses on a different couple, Evrard from the first book is here called Evander, and I enjoyed his match with fellow immortal Marcos. (Somehow accidentally started listening on chapter 9, which I don't recommend as it didn't make much sense, but we got sorted out eventually.) This has encouraged me to be braver venturing out of my comfort zone of MM contemporary romance, so that's exciting. Overall, this was a good listen.

I had previously read Beth’s other books, in this series, so I fell back in love with the setting, plot and time period of this amazing fantasy!

Book 1: Yours Forever, After
This was an amazing story. The fantasy world that Beth envisioned includes sorcerers, shapeshifters, unicorns and other magical creatures. Death, deception and greed battle against long-lived lives, truth and generosity.

The love that grows between two princes comes at a price. One is betrayed while the other is led to determine just how brave he is, and they both learn to trust; themselves, each other, and those around them.

A wonderful tale! It could definitely be part of Marvel!

Book 2: Your’s Everlasting
This is the second book in Beth's amazing fantasy series. It was the perfect blend of new love and a follow-up to the lives of Gray and Rory. It also back tracks into the different roles (and names and personalities) that Evrard took through his long lifetime.

We also discover the connection that Marcos and the other guardians have to those living on the surface and the trouble that is caused when the craving for power becomes destructive.

Romance flows through the story line and the characters become more three dimensional. Trust once again becomes an important part of the series, as does the importance of personal growth and found family.

Pick up this book and prepare to be wowed!

The entire series will have you invested in the kingdoms and the lives of all the inhabitants.

Thanks to book funnel and Beth for this Arc!

I have previously read these books and it is always nice to go and listen to the audio books later. I enjoyed listening to the narrator putting his own little spin on the story and getting back to these characters.

Yours, Forever
This was quite the story. Gray and Rory had such different experiences in their upbringings but the same person is the reason for their problems. They didn’t really get off on the right foot but found common ground and got past their differences and overcame their fears. I was glad to be able to see them happy and in love even when they are dealing with other nobles and all the stress that comes with running a kingdom.

Yours Everlasting
I enjoyed this story. Evander has dedicated his life to ridding the earth of the sorcerers and their dark magic and even after he was punished for wanting to get involved he still does everything he can to help. Marcos has also been on earth helping Evander in secret. Evander and Marcos really are a perfect pair and were able to look out for each other and be there when they needed someone.

Graham/Gray is a prince who had to flee the evil’s of his kingdom as a child. His father’s advisor Sabrina wanted his blood. She had bewitched his father. For years Gray hid in the valley of lost things until one day Prince Emory/Rory came looking for criminals with his guard. He was sent by his aunt Sabrina, the current interim queen of Fontaine. At this point the epic adventure begins. There is magic, mystical creatures, battle and fated love.
The 13 guardians watch over the humans, but their leader Demos has other plans. He banished Evander Keeper of Secrets, when he argued with Demos’s idea to leave the humans to their own fates. The second book shows how this guardian works to maintain balance. There are many surprises in this part, along with love, faith and determination. Enjoyed every twist and turn in these stories.

A great follow through from beginning to the surprising epilogue. The reader will find twists-turns-surprising changes, and mystical themes. The first books, Yours, Forever After and Yours, Everlasting can be found singularly but the complete series was what I was fortunate to read and was entirely satisfied with this entire work. The journey begins when Gray, a young prince forced to run for his life and hid for 14 years, and years later Prince Emery, sent to Gray's hidden world by his vicious and ambitious aunt, to destroy Gray's beloved world. Throw in the fisty Unicorn Rhys and the reader has all the elements of a great mythical journey. This is my voluntary and willing review for the ARC I was given via Bookfunnel.

This was such a great fantasy duology. The worldbuilding is extremely well done, and the two romances are just amazing. Book 1 was great, I love Rory and Graham; it did feel a little long, but honestly I think it was so necessary to make this immense magical world. And, it was a great set up for book2 which was absolutely a 5 star book for me. The world is expanded in such an incredibly interesting way and the romance is just chock full of delicious pining. It was one of those books that I could not stop listening to once I started! Brennan Rossi is a new narrator to me, and at first I thought I didn't see enough range, but I ended up thinking I was just wrong there. Each voice was nuanced and just perfect for the character they represented. I would not be mad to see more in this world!

I didn't read the books that make up the Enchanted Folklore when they first came out. So glad Beth Bolden decided to put them in one volume. The stories are as lovely as the book cover. They read very similar to James Thurber's The Thirteen Clocks. Fairytales for adults.
Bolden does slow burn very well. Gray and Rory and Evander and Marcos are amazing characters. Intelligent, strong-willed, some of them more know it all than others, they deserved their HEAs. The worldbuilding is excellent, Bolden channeling Tolkien perhaps. With more steam.
A lovely read. Very absorbing. Very much fun.

Okay, so at first I was sure that I was going to like this. I am very picky when it comes to accents in books, especially thick accents. Me and my husband listened to this on our way to Louisiana and back. He absolutely loved it. He was like I was just expecting this to be smut with no plot, but he was like the smut scenes were tasteful. I wish book one would have had a little bit more magic in it.

We definitely liked the second one more. I will say the only thing that was hard to keep track of was the amount of names to follow especially Rhys and Marcos. I liked in the second one that you got to meet more of the guardians.

I've previously read and reviews the stories here, which were each well worth the 5-star reviews I gave them. This review is for the audio version of the compilation.
I love these characters and their combined story. The romances are satisfying, the friendships are heartfelt, and the relationship between Evrard/Evander and Graham/Grey is something special. The author tells a wonderful story, and I love everything about these books!
The audio version is very well done, and the talented narrator did a great job. I have enjoyed listening this epic tale, and I will definitely look for more stories performed by this voice actor. I will also listen to this one again.

I am so excited for these to be in one volume! This series is absolutely stunning if you love a good fantasy adventure romance. I highly recommend it! These two stories flow so seamlessly together and are so much fun. Grey and Rory and Evander and Marcos are delightful characters and will pull you through their stories and not let you stop reading until you finish them! All the stars for this duology!!!! I can’t recommend them enough. And the audio is pretty amazing too! The narrator does a really good job and is easy to listen to.

ENCHANTED FOLKLORE: THE COMPLETE SERIES combines Beth Bolden's fantasy duology into one BIG book! YOURS, FOREVER AFTER is Prince Emory and Prince Graham's story, complete with a villainous sorceress and a talking unicorn who might or might not steal the show. YOURS, EVERLASTING is Evander and Marcos's story, Guardians who face quite the quest.

As always, Ms Bolden brings her best and her characters remind us what it means to love and to live, and what the important things in our lives truly are. A fantastic set.

Magic, curses, mythical beings, princes finding their HEA… What’s not to like?
I really enjoyed both of these stories. I’m a lover of fantasy and magic, so stories involving cursed kingdoms or mythological creatures are really my thing. The world building is great, and the plot is intriguing and engaging. But what I liked most is the psychological development of the characters, the fact that the HEA is not so easily achieved because there are times when we have to deal with our issues even after finding our soul mate…

This audio edition of these two stories is exactly the way to do it. The stories are a lot of fun. Great chemestry, intrigue, betrayal (not among the MCs), and lots of fantasy all told to us in a wonderful narration. I personally think all fantasy romance stories should come with audio.

This is different than what I am used to for Beth Bolden but feel she does a wonderful job bringing all these men and characters to life with a fun story. Brennan Rossi does a great job bringing these men to their adventure.

This series consists of two different stories and both of them were slow burns where you got to know both characters, what brought them together, and how they dealt with the circumstances out of their control. The slow burn of the romance adds to both stories, especially Gray and Rory's. It took me a bit to get into the 2nd story since Evander was a bit gruff, but as his story developed with Marcos, their story also developed into something deeper.

Both stories were amazing. I don't often listen to fantasy romance, but this book had me wanting to sign up for more. The world building was incredible, the love and trust that grew between the characters in both stories was believable, and both had me invested from the get go.

I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good story and hope Bolden continues on this romantasy journey because I would love to come along for the ride. Thank you to Neon Reads for the ARC!

I love box sets and really enjoy having books from a series in one place. This set follows Rory and Gray, and then Evander and Marcos. Both books have lots of excitement and people who are not who they seem. I really loved seeing the storyline develop and the world the author created.
This review is for the audiobook specifically but would aplly to the book as well.

The narration is OK. It starts out sounding a bit strained, just like it's being read...but the dialougue has distinguishable voices that made it much better and gets better as the story goes on.

Book 1 Yours, Everafter
Grey ( Graham) and Rory (Emory)
Graham the prince of Artglass is given to an evil sorceress by his Father the king under the Sorceress spell.
He is rescued by his tutor then a magical unicorn.
He lives years alone in the valley as a farmer when the Prince ( Rory ) shows and life changes for them both.
The characters are all amazing especially the cantankerous unicorn.
The plot is exciting and there is lots of action and adventure with plenty twists and turns and a slow burn sweet romance.

Book 2 Yours, Eventually
Evander and Marcos
I loved Evander and Marcos story. Maybe because I already lived Evander from the first book.
In this book we learn about the guardians and why Evander and Marcos are on Earth.
There are so many twists and lots of action.
It is the perfect conclusion for this series.
