Though lacking much authentic Welsh blood, Kim Lawrence comes from English-Irish stock. She was born and brought up in North Wales. She returned there when she married, and her sons were both born on Anglesey, an island off the coast. Though not isolated, Anglesey is a little off the beaten track, but lively Dublin, which Kim loves, is only a short ferry ride away. Today they live on the farm her husband was brought up on. Welsh is the first language of many people in this area and Kim's husband and sons are all bilingual she is having a lot of fun, not to mention a few headaches, trying to learn the language! She is a keen gardener and cook and enjoys running often on the beach, as living on an island the sea is never very far away. She is usually accompanied by her Jack Russell, Sprout don't ask, it's long story!

With small children, the unsocial hours of nursing didn't look attractive so encouraged by a husband who thinks she can do anything she sets her mind to, Kim tried her hand at writing. Always a keen Mills & Boon reader, it seemed natural for her to write a romance novel. In 1995, she published her first novels and now she can't imagine doing anything else.

3 Stars ~ This is another delightful romance from Ms. Lawrence. The heroine, Rowena, was first introduced in her sister, Holly's story, The Engagement Deal. While I'm not sure if Ms. Lawrence waited a few books (six were published between these two) the tone of this story, suggests she did. This is a fun and enjoyable romance, however, it misses some of the spark of the earlier one.

Rowena, the elder Parish sister, is a bit of a perfectionist control freak. Seeing both her mother and grandmother "settle" for family over career (or so she thought) made her all the more determined never to fall in love. Affairs were okay, though attaining her goal didn't leave much time for a social life. While working short term in New York for a fashion magazine, she's thrilled to bump into old college bud, Quinn. So thrilled that she kisses him madly in the middle of a busy sidewalk. Of course, this leads to a trip to Quinn's hotel room. When Rowena suggests they have an affair, she's rather shocked that playboy Casanova, Quinn wants a real relationship.

Back in London, Rowena does her ultimate best to avoid Quinn, including changing phone numbers. She knows she has to see him eventually as their wild night in New York has created a baby. Quinn is madly in love with Rowena, and though he hasn't professed his love, he is determined to get that relationship. Showing up at the magazine seems like the only way to get her attention. His timing is impeccable. As Rowena urgently takes a call from Holly, Quinn becomes her rock, as she learns their grandmother has suffered a stroke. Taking over the call, Quinn learns the details and then whisks Rowena out of her office and arranges their trip to Scotland.

Theirs is a crazy wild journey as they battle snowstorms and being stranded in what seems like rural nowhere without a means to communicate. For several days they take shelter in a vacate cottage where Rowena can no longer avoid the sexiest, handsomest man she's ever met.

I love a besotted hero and Quinn fits this bill wonderfully. At times it was rather hard to like Rowena, but that was necessary as she battled her own mixed up beliefs. Of course, hero wins heroine in grand Harlequin style. Bravo to Ms. Lawrence for an epilogue that does justice to both Parish sisters and their scrumptious husbands.

I very seldom write reviews, just usually rate by stars. However, this book totally ticked me off. For one, I dont get where the lead female is getting all her hostility and pure unreasonableness. From what I read she had a normal childhood up to university days. Nowhere I can read where she picked up the hostile attitude in such a short time. Her pure contrariness, all knowing attitude, impossible and outdated views on raising a family and having a career are totally preposterous. I totally hate her and would rather this be an unconventional story with the guy getting the baby and she forging ahead alone in her career and unhappy. She is an impossible character and totally difficult to create that convincing change of character when after two-thirds of the book, she still fastidiously maintains her selfish ideals, impossible views, and her “I’m alone” mentality. Totally disgusted with her character. I totally love kim lawrence, but this book is a total bust for me. Unbelievable.

Quinn and Rowena were friends in college. Now she's a magazine editor and he's a surgeon, and they meet in New York and have a passionate night together. She avoids him afterwards, and Quinn, not one to take rejection lightly, hunts her down at work, only to find that she's pregnant...

Some questions will never be answered. Will the universe eventually suffer a heat-death? Will we find a cure for the Ebola virus? Why does Quinn like, let alone love, Rowena?

Not. A. Clue.

I was wavering between 1 and 2 stars for this, and eventually gave it 2, since Quinn is quite sweet and kind - a change for an English hero! Rowena, on the other hand, is utterly insufferable. She's the type of person who, if you told her the sky was blue, would insist that no, it's really green, and how could you be so arrogant as to presume that everyone sees it the same way you do, and why is your impression of the sky necessarily the right one, and your clear preference for blue over green clearly implies some bigotry on your part against people with green eyes, and...yes, I exaggerate. But not that much. She is given to some of the most astounding paranoia and leaps of logic of any character I've read in a long time. This, coupled with an argumentative streak, makes her a thoroughly unlikeable character.

The plot, where they get stranded in a cottage in the snow, I would have enjoyed had the heroine been even remotely sympatico.

I shall move onto the next book in my pile and not look back. Poor Quinn, he doesn't have that option.

This would have been a great quick read if not for the heorine. While I like smart, agressive, independence, there is that fine line when it becomes more annoyance than an attribute. Of course, Rowena is redeemed by the end, it was just too late for me. Her argumentive attitude took away most of my enjoyment.

I have read other books by this author and really liked them. The hero, Dr. Quinn Tyler is certainly swoon worthy and kept me reading until finished.

Boring in spots, author develops good characters but the plot with all the arguing is weak. Flashbacks don’t hang together. I reread because KL is usually better than 2 stars but not this time. In fact 2 stars is rounded up.
