At the precipice of international conflict, the fate of the Mediterranean’s “Cradle of Civilization” hangs by a thread. America’s forces sailing out of Gibraltar are its last hope.
In the wake of Muammar Gaddafi's demise, the Mediterranean's strategic waters become the stage for a new power play. Ali Hakim Sherif, emerging as Libya's formidable strongman, dreams of resurrecting the glory of the Ottoman Empire. His eyes are set on the untapped oil riches of Egypt, and he’s willing to employ brutal tactics and ancient claims to seize control. Sherif's quest for dominance finds eager allies in Russia, Iran, and Qatar, setting the stage for an explosive confrontation.
With global attention focused on the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, the United States mobilizes clandestinely. Admiral Joe Glass, operating from the legendary Rock of Gibraltar, directs a covert mission involving two stealth submarines. Together with Commander Jim Ward and an elite SEAL team, they are America's first line of defense, tasked with supporting Egypt against an audacious adversary. In a race against time, American forces face the daunting challenge of preventing a new empire's rise while protecting a centerpiece of global commerce.
In this tenth installment of the critically acclaimed Hunter Killer series, bestselling authors Wallace and Keith weave a thrilling narrative of loyalty, betrayal, and the relentless pursuit of power. The Gibraltar Affair is a perfect read for fans of Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, and Mark Greaney.
Born and raised in Eastern Ohio, Commander Wallace received his commission in the US Navy and a degree in engineering from The Ohio State University. After the obligatory and memorable interview with Admiral Rickover, he was accepted into the nuclear power and submarine communities. He served on two of Admiral Rickover’s famous “Forty One for Freedom”, the USS John Adams SSBN 620 and the USS Woodrow Wilson SSBN 624, during which time he made nine one-hundred-day deterrent patrols through the height of the Cold War.
Commander Wallace served as Executive Officer on the Sturgeon class nuclear attack submarine Spadefish. Spadefish and all her sisters were decommissioned during the downsizing that occurred in the 1990′s. The passing of that great ship served as the inspiration for “Final Bearing.”
Commander Wallace then commanded the Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine USS Houston SSN 713 from February 1990 to August 1992. During this tour of duty he worked extensively with the SEAL community developing SEAL/submarine tactics. Under his command, the Houston was awarded the CIA Meritorious Unit Citation.
Commander George Wallace retired to the civilian business world in 1995, after twenty-two years of service on nuclear submarines.
Commander Wallace lives with his wife, Penny, in Alexandria, Virginia.
It’s hard to believe I’ve just finished my tenth book by Don Keith and George Wallace. It seems like just yesterday I was reading Final Bearing, the first book in the Hunter Killer series. Over the span of these ten books, I’ve come to know the characters like they were shipmates I served with for several tours. Going on all these adventures with them, normally deep under the oceans of the world. has made me wonder if I qualify for a set of honorary Dolphins.
The Gibraltar Affair kept me on the edge of my seat, with the nonstop action. Of course, it goes without saying I spent many long passages throughout the book holding my breath. The book had me deep enough in its clutches, I didn’t want to interfere with what was going on in the submarine or when I was traveling along with the SEALs in the desert.
I’m not sure if this is the final book in the Hunter Killer series, but if it is it is a fitting conclusion to the series. If not, I can’t wait to see where we go from here.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of The Gibraltar Affair from the publisher and chose to provide my review.
I received an ARC through "Severn River" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story begins with leaders of a Libya tribe and Chinese envoy discussing the resurrection of the Ottoman empire. The Chinese have supplied the Libyan leader with weapons to support the effort to take over Libya and eventually portions of Egypt. One of the weapons that the USA discovers is a submarine. As a result, this raises ed flags. The US does not have a lot of resources in this area of the world and when Libyan forces take over a tanker in Internation waters, they only have one sub and a destroyer in the area new strategy needs to be employed.
Discover how this one submarine and destroyer were utilized to try and stop the Libyans with their allies. The action is immense and well portrayed. This story will definitely grab your interest once you start. Don's miss out! Get this book now!
Another winner from these co authors, as they take the reader into the murky world of piracy and political intrigue which leads to a conflict in the Mediterranean sea caused by a deranged despot backed by China and Iran with their military personnel and weapons trying to impose themselves in the Mediterranean and ultimately control which shipping can pass safely through their self designated territorial waters. However they have not factored in the responses from the USA government and their military intervention which brings their plans to a shuddering halt with a very high casualty rate and ultimately an embarrassing defeat.
The Gibraltar Affair (The Hunter Killer Series Book 10), my fourth read from author George Wallace, co-written with author Don Keith. Again reminiscent of the best works of author Andrew Watts, another well-developed, well-written book. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author. Cuban Deep (The Hunter Killer Series Book 3) high on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
These books used to be great, what happened? In less than 5 pages, 2 different men from across the world, both answer their phone by calling the an “offending device”. Poor writing. Also, college recruiters don’t “draft” the recruit. Duh. And this girl boss sub driver only cares about food. Dumb. And the girl boss president cares more about dinner than terrorism. Quaint. Used to be a great series but now it’s unreadable.
Wallace and Keith have done it again. We have a first rate techno thriller with a very scary scenario. There have been a lot of writers vying for the Tom Clancy throne. I think that we have found the Successor. Fast moving with great characters, I highly recommend.
I received an advanced copy of this book for my honest review. This book is a continuation of a great series. The action starts fast and continues off and on throughout this great book. I highly recommend the series be read in order so that the reader can keep track of the main characters stories.
Intriguing international power struggles over oil and power
Can the ancient origins of power in Libya be revived? Can US military might head off a global conflict? Many moving parts and parties bring a conclusion to this interesting series.
Over this entire series. I was hoping for more but like all things in life there has to be an ending. However there maybe a ray of hope for the Ward team if they choose to. A new job working for the CIC. Let’s hope so.
The authors went through great pains to point out the security that Admiral Ward and his daughter in law had proctoring them. Haw did then get attracted and shot?
-- to a really good series. Great characters, plenty of action and as usual very well written. Looking forward to reading more stories from these Authors.
4.5/5. This may be the final volume in an excellent series covering global events, domestic responses, and action by navy submarines, surface ships, and SEALS. This episode deals with the rise of a new radical Muslim government in Libya, backed by the Chinese. China provides weapons, including three submarines, and advisors. The Libyan capture of a rich new oil field in the desert of western Egypt promises to provide ample funding for the rogue state.
