Can you surprise mum and have fantastic fun? You can if you're Snow Bear! Little Snow Bear decides to decorate the cave while his mum is out. He shapes some bear sculptures out of snow. It's a start but it isn't enough. So off he sets to gather more colourful and sparkly surprises - as well as a host of new friends! Glittering icicles, flocked animals and a shining Aurora Borealis - these novelties will delight children. Here's a makeover to knock Changing Rooms out of the water!
I haven’t seen a “soft to touch” book before. I expected it to be like a typical sensory book; along the lines of the “That’s Not My..” animal touch and feel books which have different textures on each page. Instead though this has soft animals - the entire animal is almost like a felt material (maybe it is felt!) and multiple animals are softly decorated to allow your child to engage with the page. It’s very subtle; but it’s really lovely and much less obtuse than the “That’s Not My…” books (although I’m a fan of these and they certainly have their place too - it’s just nice to see something different!).
The story is also really nice, following a young polar bear cub who wants to surprise their mum by decorating their cave. They enlist the help of some of their friends to do this, and it’s both kind natured and gentle in the telling. I really liked it.
I was gifted this from a neighbour who once read it to their children many years ago and I had pretty low expectations given its age. My mistake, it may not have the illustrations that we see in more recent publications for children, but it’s lovely all the same.
