For time out of mind, bloodthirsty demons have stalked the night, culling the human race to scattered remnants dependent on half-forgotten magics to protect them. Then two heroes arose — men as close as brothers, yet divided by bitter betrayal.
Arlen Bales became known as the Warded Man, tattooed head to toe with powerful magic symbols that enable him to fight demons in hand-to-hand combat — and emerge victorious. Jardir, armed with magically warded weapons, called himself the Deliverer, a figure prophesied to unite humanity and lead them to triumph in Sharak Ka — the final war against demonkind.
But in their efforts to bring the war to the demons, Arlen and Jardir have set something in motion that may prove the end of everything they hold dear — a swarm. Now the war is at hand, and humanity cannot hope to win it unless Arlen and Jardir, with the help of Arlen’s wife, Renna, can bend a captured demon prince to their will and force the devious creature to lead them to the Core, where the Mother of Demons breeds an inexhaustible army.
Trusting their closest confidantes, Leesha, Inevera, Ragen, and Elissa, to rally the fractious people of the Free Cities and lead them against the swarm, Arlen, Renna, and Jardir set out on a desperate quest into the darkest depths of evil — from which none of them expects to return alive.

The Graphic Audio rendition continued to hold my attention right through the end--though I started noticing a strange quirk to Ragen's accent--he ends each line on a slight upnote, almost like a question, and by the end of the book it was really starting to bug me. Then I started noticing that Leesha also had a slight similarity and that started bugging me too. Gah!
Storywise--a more folks got redemption arcs than I remembered, and the death toll just about skyrocketed. The world is shaken and changed, and that makes me very interested in peeking into the new series. Especially with all the babies around by the end. Lots of action, lots of climactic scenes all over the world, and I felt the story wrapped up well.
This series started well but then went downhill - I stopped at book 3 because it annoyed me to much, and gave up on the series and then a few years later decided to retry it since it was completed. There was about 3 books worth of content that was stretched over 5 books. So the characters started well, then turned dodgy, just so that they could redeem themselves by the end. It was weird and felt backwards.
The extension of the series to 5 meant a lot of filler, and by filler I mean repeats. You go through the same types of battles over and over again, get the same boring political situation played over and over again, and horny people scattered all over the place, adding no actual value to the story. Also chapters and chapters of POVs from minor characters, whole plot lines that seemed to have no value and could have been left out entirely. Maybe the audience is teenage boys, maybe they might find this series interesting, I am just disappointed.
another wonderful and final book to the demon cycle! i waited tell the final part of the graphic audio recording came out before i listened to this one. all i can say is just as i expected for a final book to a great series! the only complain i can say really is i would of liked to of had a bit longer end as it just felt a bit rushed to me. maybe of the life's of the ones after a little more. hopefully peter well make a 5.5 book doing just that. but all in all a great final book to the serise im sad is done.. now just to wait for the tv or movie please?
The conclusion was well enough but I can't shake the feeling of build up, after build up, for an incredibly "cozy" end. It was a long ride that I was okay to part with.
