Fast-paced plot driven by the threat of a world-wide viral pandemic, an underlying suggestion of government evil, and a pervading sense that all is not what it appears to be. This is a page-turner filled with suspense as our central character races with time to perfect an anti-virus in his top-security lab near the nation's capital, all the while uncovering startling secrets about his surroundings, his work, political and scientific history, and even his family-including his brilliant and sexy wife Dara. This paranormal thriller takes on an eerie, gothic tone as Dr. Collin De Gise-a youthful Nobel Prize Laureate and ex-Gulf War Two commando-faces down the dangerous virus, clashes with high-level government figures in Washington DC, and battles to unravel the mystery of a sinister presence behind it all. Great suspense, an occult mystery that's refreshingly different, an conspiracy thriller with a chilling surprise ending that leaves you with the aura that maybe something like this isn't so incredible after all. It all seems hardly less normal than the dark turn that our turbulent society seems to be taking, despite all the good and beauty in the world.(less)
My new audiobook is coming along great, based upon my just-launched, riveting novel, "Palette Knife: A Novel of Love, Intrigue, and Nazi Terror". It's 1937 Berlin, and pacifist and Expressionist painter Max Bauer--war hero-- gets a gig from the artistic-minded and twisted Adolf Hitler, and he and his half-Jewish, physician wife Frieda are in for very rough times indeed. So are their foes--the Nazi brass and their star henchman, General Siegfried Hock. Freedom of expression crashes into oppression and terror--which resonates today. Max and his artist friends and family are in the middle. Does violence come to the rescue? Enjoy this new, action-packed historical novel that has strong romance and right-angle conflicts, and is based upon true incidents--on Amazon Kindle and paperback, soon to be audiobook! This is my first novel, a suspense thriller with paranormal undertones; I feel it is unique in the general category of Armageddon scenarios, dealing with just how a dark force that strives to eliminate humankind would go about doing it using medical and technical prowess, combined with an evil knack in altering history. I think theSubversion: [book:Subversion: Life on the Edge of Eternity Kindle read (the paperback version too) is fast moving, entertaining, with some memorable scenes. I hope it is enjoyed, and the audiobook version is masterful (found on Audible.com) with the expert narration of Paul Mc Sorley--who does a superb job.
This book is technically about a threat of a world wide viral pandemic, but there is a lot more to this book. It follows along with the main character Collin, he is a scientist trying to come up with a anti-virus to stop the pandemic before it spreads. This story intertwines between past events and the present time. As the story goes along with all of the twists and turns, you don't know who you can trust anymore and you find out what the real anti-virus project is about. The fast pace and lots of twists and turns does an excellent job of drawing you in.
I listened to the audio version of this book and I felt that the narrator did a wonderful job. He is easy to listen to and did a great job of making sure everyone had a very distinct voice.
I found this book to be a fast paced novel that was not only exciting but was informative as well. The premise is the threat of a world wide pandemic and the race to develop a vaccine to counter it. When you add a supernatural element to it you have the recipe for a fast moving and engrossing novel that is a page turner. I stayed up very late finishing this one because I was not able to put it down. I really enjoyed the medical information that was well researched. Definitely recommended.
Suspenseful story with enough plot twists to keep most mystery fans interested. I listened to the audible version of this novel and found the narration to be well done.
Subversion by R. Manolakas is a fascinating and mesmerizing listen. The author wove a great story with Collin being the center character. I loved the twists and turns it took, and the feeling of who to trust and who to believe. I did not see the ending coming. The performance by Paul J McSorley was outstanding, He conveys such realistic emotions and adds to the suspense. I could envision so many details with how he said things.
This is the audiobook version sold through Amazon, the great Audible.com site, and I-tunes exclusively. I hope you will enjoy this audible version of my first thriller novel where Collin De Guise, a Noble Prize Laureate and a Gulf War Two vet, bites off much more than he can chew in a pet Government project pushed on him by a headstrong First Lady--the Vampire Virus vaccine project. I feel this audiobook is an entertaining listen and very fast moving, with some memorable scenes. For medical thriller enthusiasts there is some technical jargon and devices, but not enough to throw those who aren't too interested in that (the author has a medical background). The narrator's versatile and expert treatment makes it exceptional and adds quite a bit to the textSubversion: Life on the Edge of Eternity.
Dark conspiracies involving ancient foes and our path to modern chemical warfare intertwine in this novel until you don't know who you can trust and who will prove treacherous.
I enjoyed Subversion and although I feel the writing will evolve and smooth away some of the rougher edges, I think the fast pacing and abundant twists and turns in the plot are strong enough to capture the reader and keep them involved with the characters until the end.
"Subversion: Life on the Edge—of Eternity" (2014) by R. Manolakas starts off as an interesting novel about the efforts of Dr. Collin De Gise, a brilliant scientist fighting to contain a deadly, contagious virus. He discovers a plot to spread the virus and kill millions of people, but is unsure about who is behind it—and no one is above suspicion, not even his own wife. While I found the main character appealing enough, the story spun way past the needle of my suspend disbelief meter. Not recommended. Audiobook provided free for an honest review.
