This volume presents amateur, anonymous snapshots of dogs from the turn of the century to the early 1950s in all kinds of ordinary and extraordinary settings. We see dogs under the Christmas table, on front porches, at play on the beach, and posed beside babies, we see a Chihuahua in a tea cup, and a Great Dane standing as tall as its owner.
I love this book! Shows that dogs have been important family members for years. The vintage photos are beautiful. I wish there was a way we could pay back the dogs in our lives for the loyal companionship they provide.
I broke several bones over a week ago and my attention span is about as inactive as my right - and sadly dominant- side. But this beautiful collection has made my exile on the sofa a far better thing because it’s joyful and beautifully compiled. Lovely
A beautiful collection of lovely old photographs of dogs, dogs and their owners and dogs just being dogs. This is a fantastic book. It has great weight, gorgeous reproductions of family photos--and best of all without any words, tells wonderful stories of our vast, unlimited ability to love our pets, and for them to love us in return.
"Dogs" (collected by Catherine Johnson) reminds me of another terrific book, "Prince: and other dogs, 1850 - 1940" by Libby Hall. That one's getting hard to find now--but both books are so worthwhile. In the truest sense of the word: heartwarming.
