Natalie survived the moonlit attack that marked her as a shapeshifter forever - but at a steep cost. Though she can now transform into a raven during the full moon, the ironclad rules of the shifter world forbid her from loving any shifter that doesn't share her form. This includes the only man she's ever loved, plunging her into a forbidden love affair with potentially deadly consequences.
Being a raven comes with another complication -- she technically belongs to the Raven King, a powerful and brash young man who rules over the entire European continent and all the shifters in it and has no problem killing to keep and increase the power he holds.
As Natalie navigates the dangerous, complex, and sometimes brutal nuances of the Raven Court, she discovers a war is coming and humanity is inching ever closer to learning of the existence of the shifter world. Her growing powers, secret love, and shifting alliances may be the only thing standing between her court and total annihilation.
I was fortunate to have been given the opportunity to read an ARC copy of Ravenous. I shared my thoughts with the author, what I liked, and what worked for me. I have now read the published version of this second in the series, and I can’t wait for the third. Young love, first love, whatever you want to call it, is fiery and all-encompassing. This is the case for our protagonist, sweet, naive Natalie. She has to grow up fast when a series of life-altering events combine with the emotional hits that keep coming. Change is inevitable, and the path can be fraught with danger and disappointment. Such is the case for Natalie, but does she become embittered? Does she blindly fight against the machine? Or does she keep learning about this new world she has been thrust into and find a way to fight back? Sierra weaves a tangled web where the main characters show us who they are behind the pretty masks they wear. There’s a fine line between doing monstrous things in the name of justice and being a monster. As Natalie tries to justify to herself the reprehensible acts committed by others, she edges toward the dark side. Does she become morally corrupt herself? Well . . . you’ll have to read the book to find out. Shelley Lee Riley – Author of Labyrinth of Ruin, a Pre-teen/YA Fantasy.
I have chill throughout my body as I finished these last pages. This is a great story! It takes the reader on an incredible journey as Natalie finds her place in her new life. So much tension, not knowing who to trust, what the truth is, and all of the secrets of this new world creates a dynamic story. I was captured in the web Sierra Prynne weaves with her words, unable to put it down. I highly recommend this book to young and old alike.
This second book was even better than the first! I have so many questions and suspicions and while I didn't get what was meant by this series being a love triangle in the first book, I get it now. I'm interested to see how this goes. The next book is lated to be released in August 2024 and I have already pre-ordered it.
This novel was so fun, and might I say, even better than the first!!! Definitely a series to watch. Fated mates, love triangles, drama - can’t ask for more except for that third book!!! Can’t recommend this hard enough!
Ravenous is the 2nd book in the The Garden of Beastly Delights series by Sierra Prynne. It is a supernatural teenager/young adult fantasy featuring enemies to lovers, slow-burn, forbidden love, dark secrets, forced proximity, a love triangle, magic and shapeshifters.
After surviving the bear attack that marked as a shapeshifter, Natalie is now able to transform during the full moon. As the head of the Bear court she should turn into one herself, but somehow she shifts into a raven instead. This is a complication no one saw coming as the rules of the shifter world forbid loving shifters that don’t share her form. This includes the guy she loves. Being a raven also means, she now belongs to the Raven King – a man, who rules over the shifters of the entire continent of Europe. As Natalie plunges into a forbidden love affair with potentially deadly consequences and tries to navigate the dangerous nuances of the Raven Court, her powers continue to grow. Alliances are made and some might surprise us all.
This is a great story! I mean it – I absolutely loved reading it. The author has created a delicately tangled web that makes it impossible to put the book down. Once you start reading, you are captured for good. There are so many intricate twists and turns that you are constantly surprised and never bored. The world building is brilliantly done – I wish this could really exist. The writing style of the author is very enjoyable – fluent and descriptive and just so easy to follow. The story is perfectly paced and you are taken on an incredible journey filled with passion, action, mystery and intrigue. After the life-altering events Natalie now has to grow up, and grow up fast. Change is inevitable and she needs to find her place and position in this new world of hers. There is a lot of tension in this story and you are going to see the some characters from a totally different perspective. New characters are also introduced, like the Raven King, and all of a sudden we can see a love triangle emerge. The main characters are likable and also relatable – all with their own insecurities and pasts. As the characters navigate the intricate world of shifters, we become aware of secrets – both old and new, mysteries that need solving and dangers all around. The book keeps you constantly alert for there is much happening. It is a fast paced and dynamic story, but does not overwhelm, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
I cannot wait to see how this series continues, as this one ended with a bang I was not expecting (but what made perfect sense). As I said after reading the first part of the series, this is no doubt one of the best teenage/young adult fantasy romances I have read in a long time, so I absolutely recommend reading it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Holy moly! The worldbuilding, the magic, the sexy, dangerous king! Having read both the first and the second books in this series, I was so excited to start this one and I couldn't put it down. The main character, Natalie, really comes into her own in this one. She's still struggling with her new role in this world, and her own insecurities, but that makes watching her navigate this world she was thrown into SO MUCH FUN. I just want to spend hours in this world! I'll be reading the third book the first day it's released. Cannot wait.
If you are looking for spice you won’t find it here! But the story is phenomenal! Lots of unexpected twists and turns!! I normally love books with a Great story and a healthy amount of spice/smutt… the fact that I’m still reading this series means the story is amazing! The plot thickens! There’s also plenty of mushy romance and some kissing but that’s as far as it goes… it’s all innocent! Moving on to book 3! I can’t wait to read what happens next!
I couldn't wait for this book to come out and once it did I read it in a single day. It made me want to go to Europe...but not just any Europe--the fantasy Europe in this book! Ugh! This gave me a severe case of FOMOOAFWIWWR - Fear of Missing Out on a Fantasy World I Wish Was Real! So excited for the next book. I'll read anything this author writes, on God.
I jumped right into this one after finishing the first book, Feral, and this one did not disappoint. The world is awesome, the fantasy feels so modern but still magical, the characters are more fleshed out and secrets are brought to light that made me excited to read the next one. I pre-ordered it two seconds after I finished this one!
I LOVE THIS WORLD! Ugh, I am SO happy Sierra blew out the world like this. The first book was small by comparison, and this one was like jumping out of a mug into a swimming pool of cool fantasy worldbuilding, plus more juicy inner worlds of characters I just LOVE being around! I cannot WAIT to read the next one!!!
I loved this book! It was better than the first, but the first was excellent as well! I definitely understand the love triangle now and the author did such and amazing job writing it! The world itself and the twist and turns, plus the characters kept me pinned to my seat!
