Fae of Roses and Exile

Rate this book
A standalone dark fantasy romance that reimagines Beauty and the Beast in a dangerous fae world.

Rina has always been treated like a toy to discard, not a treasure to keep forever. She was her father’s favorite daughter before he sold her to the fae. And for years, she was the favorite concubine of a cruel fae prince. Now the prince is bored of her—and unless she wants to die in one of his twisted games, she must make herself useful.

Seduce the Beast. Learn his secrets. Find out how to kill him.

The Beast of the Broken Wood was once the prince’s deadliest assassin, and Rina has always feared his brooding demeanor and monstrous claws. But when the prince exiles Rina to the Beast’s rose-covered manor, she finds a gentler side to the intimidating assassin—and begins to fall for the Beast she was sent to betray. If she follows her heart, she could have the love she’s always wanted. But if she fails to uncover the Beast’s secrets, the prince will destroy her—and she’s running out of time.

Happily Ever After begins in the dark.

3.5 ⭐️. This is my first time reading this author, and this was a decent standalone with an actually sweet MMC and a guarded but fierce FMC. I love Beauty and the Beast retellings, and I’m a bit burnt out on harsh, cold, indifferent, cruel MMCs who eventually turn it around, so this was a nice change of pace.

This world is pretty dark. This is the world of evil, callous, cruel fae with no regard for life or compassion for others. Rina was a forced concubine since age 15 when she was taken from the human realm (gross, I know) and her life has been nothing but a series of calculated decisions, tight rope balancing, and masking emotions to survive the horrors of Prince Maxen’s court. She is left at Hayth’s manor to seduce him and uncover the secret to his immortality, or face a fate worse than death at the hands of Maxen.

Rina was an interesting FMC. Where I thought she’d be more timid, broken, and shy, trying to disappear in every room to avoid the fae’s cruel attentions, she was actually a bit bold and sarcastic. I didn’t actually love her all that much in the beginning, as I couldn’t quite get a read on her motivations. But as she settled a bit into her new circumstances at the manor, realized the “Beast” Hayth wasn’t who she thought, we actually got to see the real her… soft, compassionate, insecure. I liked her so much better as her story progressed.

Hayth was a true golden retriever MMC. Sweet from the beginning, if a little stoic and closed off to her, but nonetheless honorable, safe, and protective. I liked his character immensely, and the mystery around his connection to Rina was intriguing.

Their connection was where it fell a bit flat for me. While time does pass at the manor and we’re told they’re working side by side getting to know each other, we don’t SEE that much of it. So it feels like we go from suspicion and emotional walls to confessing truths and being in love. Like in one scene almost. Then things were so over the top for their relationship it was almost too much, feeling disingenuous. I wanted more of them actually falling in love. The pacing was a tad slow in the middle as well, while we’re just at the manor, and you know a big conflict is coming when Maxen comes to collect his info, but until then it’s just sort of waiting.

I appreciate the author didn’t drag out the miscommunication between MCs, as I hate that trope. The final conflict was intense and I couldn’t stop reading. Over all this was a good retelling, and hard to put down. I just wish we had more connection between Rina and Hayth, and more emotion from the characters so their story felt more authentic.

This book was such a good twist on Beauty and Beast!
Violet Jasper, you did an amazing writing job!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book captured my attention, and I finished it last night! Beauty and Beast has always been on of my favorite fairytales (probably mostly for the library 🤭) and this story is full of complex characters (in a good way) and has a great storyline. Another plus is the MC’s are older! Early 30’s, not many stories have that!!

The tropes and things:
⭐️ complex characters
⭐️ unlikely love
⭐️ great storyline
⭐️ he falls first
⭐️ happy ending
⭐️ unforgettable romance
⭐️ beauty and beast twist

I really liked this take because our MMC is savage because, well, he’s a beast, but instead of blo*d when he unalives people, he spills rose petals and more grevious wounds grow full rose heads and bushes! It’s such a cool take on the magic that comes with this story. This is one of my top favorite Beauty and Beast type retellings. I teared up a little for a moment when I thought a certain character was gone, It had action and romance (swoonworthy really), and you just can’t help but fall in love with the characters.

I definitely reccomend this story!

Also, you don’t have to read book one and two in order, but that’s how I read them. Book three has a temporary release date, but stay tuned!!

Happy Reading you lovely Souls 🫶🏻🖤

I always loved the beast!

This is the second book in a series of interconnected standalone’s. This book is about the beast, as the evil prince likes to call him,and Rina, the evil price’s concubine. I love the depth to the beast. He may have been an assassin but he is all kindhearted. He takes in hurt or broken animals from the woods. He ha suffered great loss but he still has a heart of gold. He feel’s everything so deeply. The there is Rina who doesn’t even know who she is. She was take from her home at 15 and became the princess concubine. It’s all she has ever know but we get to watch her grow into her self. She is brave and will fight for those she loves. Can’t wait for more .

This had some original spins on a Beauty and the beast retelling. I admit to be thrown off by the tone in the first 50 pages or so compared to the rest. At first there was an excess of vulgar language that just felt ill placed...but especially inconsistent with the tone as it progressed. Also the fmc was not likable at first for me, too sarcastic. It did get better, I will say but I almost did t stick through it. The visual of the Beast slashing people and then flower petals instead of Blood pouring out, felt kind of..."silly" I guess? I liked the supporting character of Ryland a while lot so, a charismatic wolf shifter. The chemistry had some sweet moments for our couple...though never felt it quite as deeply.

it's a different taken though, so it may be worth the spin!

This has got to be one of my favorite Beauty And The Beast retellings I've read, and I've read a fair few! I absolutely LOVED the FMC Rina, she had just the right amount of snark and I loved getting to know her and see her develop. The Beast was such the perfect golden retriever kind of book boyfriend (Once you got through that tough exterior), he was protective and sweet but had that growly grouchiness to him that just gets my gears going. I loved every moment and everything about this book, from the lovable sidekicks to magical pets and even a villain I hated that I kind of loved. 🤭
I'm obsessed and can't wait to dive into more from this author! ❤️

This one wasn't quite as dark as the last one, but it wasn't light and fluffy, either. I enjoyed it, though. Ryland was adorable, and I'm looking forward to his story. Rina was one of my favorite side characters from book 1 because of her feisty attitude. And the Beast was a giant teddy bear; it was nice to see a MMC that wasn't broody and hate-filled for a change. I mean, I'm all for enemies-to-lovers, but sometimes, you just want a guy who knows what he wants and isn't afraid of feels.

Very interesting character development and works building. I'm not sure I actually liked either one of them as people, but they felt real.
