Mickey free knew he belonged with the Apache people who has raised him from infancy, with his father, the warrior Geronimo, and his mother, Gray Willow. Then a terrible and one brutal act of betrayal forced the red-haired, blue-eyed Apache to set out on a lonely path of his own. Trusting the U.S. Army, Free became a legend for leading Geronimo into captivity. But from that moment he could not rest until he faced those who had lied to him and his father, until he had righted and unbearable wrong, and until he had fought one man--his own Apache brother--who had become his most savage enemy.
A true character in frontier history, Mickey Free comes to vivid life in Kerry Newcomb's remarkable tale of how fate brought many enemies--and one loyal woman--to a single man, fighting a war no one else could ever understand.
Kerry Newcomb was raised in Texas. He has served in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and taught at the St. Labre Mission School on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana. Mr. Newcomb has written plays, film scripts, commercials, liturgical dramas, and over thirty novels under both his own name and a variety of pseudonyms. He lives with his family in Ft. Worth, Texas.
this book was a masterpiece. The descriptions of the Arizona deserts, buttes, and mountains are almost poetic. It is a story of a white baby boy who was rescued by the Apache legend Geronimo. He grows up to become a fierce warrior. There is a riveting adventure about his search for his half brother who became an outlaw. It tells of the last stand of the Apache tribe and how they were treated. Couldn’t put it down. highly recommend.
Love this book from the beginning Great writing keeps you motivated and reading more for the next adventure in this storytelling Highly recommend this book
Based upon a true character in frontier history. Interesting read about a white infant adopted by the Apache war chief Geronimo and his wife Gray Willow, who grew up Apache with his Apache brother Chato. Mickey was red haired and blue eyed, but as Apache as possible. His mother was opposed to the rebelliousness of Geronimo and the war he declared on the US government, believing instead that a peaceful arrangement could be reached.
Well done historical novel of the American West at the end of the Apache as a fighting force. Geronimo surrenders and the male bronco Apache are sent to Florida. Another example of the dishonesty of our people towards the Indians.
