The Dreaming

A Closet Romantic

Dr. Toni Sinclair was a busy woman whose only time for romance was in her dreams. Then she took a much needed vacation in Egypt and discovered that the ages-old country, with its ancient pyramids and exotic temples, was everything she had ever imagined.

Her father's prominent State Department post made Toni a target for kidnappers, but it wasn't until she met David Spaulding that she realized just how vulnerable she could be. David was the man of her dreams—loving, compassionate, patient and honest. Then Toni found out he'd been sent by her father to protect her, and she began to wonder if she could really trust his words of love.

Heroine Dr. Toni Sinclair goes to Egypt to attend a medical conference and to visit an old friend. She has always felt drawn to Egypt so this finally gives her a chance to see it and also to visit with her father who is assigned to the American Embassy in Cairo.

Her father is worried about Toni traveling alone in Egypt so he asks a friend who owes him a favor, David Spaulding, if he would keep an eye on her, be a bodyguard, without Toni knowing it. Along the way Toni and David meet in Egypt and form a friendship, and later become lovers, without Toni knowing that David was sent by her father to protect her.

I really enjoyed this book. It had plenty of romance and some suspense. There was even some hints/references that the main couple could be reincarnated: heroine--an Egyptian Princess, hero--her slave. (Toni dreamed about an Egyptian Princess that she strongly resembled.) I loved the Egypt locations. I liked when Toni took a cruise on a steamer down the Nile. Toni and David made a good couple. This was a captivating and entertaining read.

Pull quote/note
"Toni took a deep breath and explained that she had received a note from Ali. She didn't mention that he'd wanted to talk to her about David.
'It didn't occur to you to be suspicious that he wanted to meet you at the temple instead of the hospital?'
Toni glowered. 'Of course it did. But I thought he must have had a good reason. Besides, I now know the note was obviously not from him.'
'How?'
'Because Ali would never have attacked me like that!'" (130-131) oh, well, in that case
