The Troublemaker #3
A Troublemaker in Her Eyes
Wishing won't change anything, it'll change everything.
It’s a hot, humid summer on the island of Terceira in1969. Capt. Traf Mendes is bitter after her beautiful gypsy girlfriend, Carmen, suddenly marries a man. The original Troublemaker (a private club of unique young lesbians) stirs up mischief by starting a contest among the island who can collect the most panties, fresh from a femme, before Thanksgiving. Determined never to trust another woman, Traf turns into an Ice Butch, quickly collecting panties, not girlfriends.
But Capt. Betty Sullivan, the pretty blonde American nurse, keeps distracting her. Sometimes it seems like she’s setting Traf up, waiting to trap her into admitting she’s a lesbian to destroy her career. Other times, the guitar playing hippie from San Francisco seems to be only a lonely woman far from home, looking for a friend.
Traf’s attraction is undeniable, but she keeps it under control through the trauma of a plane crash, the delight of showing Betty her island, and a festive American style Thanksgiving dinner. But when Betty asks Traf to set her up with a lesbian lover, what’s an Ice Butch Troublemaker with serious trust issues to do?

A Trouble Maker In Her Eyes by Genta Sebastian is an historical, romance set on the island of Treceira in 1969 about two woman who work for the airforce falling in love.
Traf is 22 , a native to the island and is a captain in the airforce. Her job is as a driver and although she enjoys that element, she doesn’t enjoy being constricted by the rules. She has to hide her sexuality from everyone apart from her close friends the ‘troublemakers’. The troublemakers are a group of women made up of the ‘butch’s’ of the island who group together as found family. Traf loves a femme but after being betrayed by her last two girlfriends in favour of marrying men, she’s closed herself off.
Betty is an American captain stationed on the island. She’s a nurse, 27, and not sure what she’s wants out of life. She’s had a few bad experiences with men and so avoids them. Traf is a friendly acquaintance, but she would like to know her better.
The pair go through a traumatic event together and start spending more time together. Traf has always had feelings for Betty but fears that showing her hand would get her thrown out of the military so she treads carefully.
It took me a while to get into this one but once I did I was invested in where the story was headed. It took me even longer to like Traf, the story is told mostly from her point of view apart from a small section. I’m not going to lie I think it took until around 50% to start to see what others saw in her. Once I did however I was routing for her to get a happy ending.
There’s a lot going on in this book for both characters, from family injuries, deaths and turmoil.
Traf’s circle of friends are colourful, including her best friend Michaela who is also in the airforce. They are crass and there is a lot of misogyny at play, which I’m not sure, but may be in line with the times. The butch women have a competition to see who can score the most panties off femmes on or visiting the island, which was a bit degrading.
The romance once it started between Traf and Betty was lovely, passionate, and swoony. They clearly love and support each other and it was a delight to witness. Betty brings out the best in Traf and in turn Traf gives Betty something she didn’t know she was missing, love and respect. They have beautiful romantic dates and the author did a great job of progressing their relationship from friends to lovers. It build gently and felt very genuine.
This book is part of a series and I think if if of realised that I wouldn’t have read the other two books first. It ends on a hopeful, open, ending, so I’m guessing there is another book to come.
trigger warnings:
Family deaths
Mention of suicide
Mention and short description of rape
Cheating (by a side character on her partner)
Arc received from the author.

I enjoyed the blossoming friendship between Traf and Betty. Their time spent together kept a smile on my face, and I was delighted when they were finally honest with each other about their feelings. Their relationship development was delightful, and I sincerely supported them throughout.
While reading this book, I found myself slightly confused about its direction. I thought that the competition to acquire the most panties was amusing. And I thoroughly enjoyed Traf's friends. The Troublemakers truly live up to their name. Overall, the book was very good, and I enjoyed it.
This is the third book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. I have not read the first two books, but I will read them in the future if this book is any indication of their quality. The book is well-written and entertaining throughout. I recommend it.

This book made me feel conflicting emotions. However, generally it’s a positive feelings especially for the main character and her slow burn (finally) main love interest now!
It takes reading The Troublemakers’ from book 1 to understand the dynamic and the somewhat crass actions of the butchs’ actions and words in the book.
It’s makes me a bit sad that Traf’s story has now concluded. I would have wanted to read more and more until the end of time tbh.

I really liked this book. It was both funny and heartwarming. I really think this book made me cry as often as it made me laugh. The contrasts between the types of situations that Traf found herself in were unexpectedly sharp. The book goes from cute and sweet to exciting and scary in the blink of an eye. I enjoyed the unexpectedness of it. It kept me on my toes, unable to predict what would happen next.
The characters were an eclectic bunch. They were funny, reprehensible, and heartwarming. While I might not have agreed with some of their actions, it was hard to stay mad at them. It was always very obvious that they had each other’s best interests at heart. They took care of each other which made the whole island feel like one big family. Traf always had people she could turn to even if she didn’t always realize it in the moment.
I loved the friendship between Traf and Betty. The fact that they got along so well with each other and had such special bond before they became a couple was my favorite part. They had such amazing chemistry that made the romance unfold gradually. Their differences seemed to bring them closer together because each of them was genuinely interested in learning about the other and sharing in their life. It was beautiful.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a heartwarming butch/femme romance. This book is part of a series so be sure to read other books first. Thanks so much to Genta Sebastian for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Traf and Betty!

I struggled with this series as it is very different from the types of books I normally read and this continued with the first half of A Troublemaker in Her Eyes. However, the second half of this book absolutely won me over so I'm glad I persisted.
In the first half of the book we find Traf struggling following the loss of both of her previous partners to relationships with men. Stirring up mischief with her her fellow island butches by participating in a contest to see who can collect the most panties before thanksgiving Traf is determined to win, no matter what the cost. However, she keeps finding herself distracted by the pretty American nurse, captain Betty Sullivan. Traf's attraction to Betty is strong but her trust issues and fear of losing her job if she is outed forces her to fight the attraction.
The journey of the two MCs across multiple encounters is sweet but when Betty asks TRAF to find her a lesbian lover things take an interesting turn. Can Traf be brave enough to take the leap or will her trust issues prevent her from finding her happy ever after? A Troublemaker in Her Eyes is a roller coaster of emotions including desire, fear, love, and grief and ended leaving me hanging for the next installment of Traf's journey, particularly with the twist that comes at the end of the book.

I am not normally a fan of historic romance, prefer the stories that happening in recent decades. But this book brought me right back to the late 60s and early 70s, with totally different technology and politics background. Love the peaceful little Portuguese island with the bold Women's club, admire these brave young women that dear to stand up for themselves, be independent and find their forever love with other women. There are so much drama and tragedy, but also tons of love and kindness toward the unfortunate people. A great read that makes me want to travel to this mysterious island and mingle with these Troublemakers!

poor Traf, she's had so many let downs with women, that she's locked her heart up tight and just has flings. Traf's group of "butches" starts a contest of who can collect the most panties! They must keep it between them and not let the "fems" get wind of it.
Enter Betty who loves teasing her and enjoys spending time with her.
There are ups and downs, fun and some payback from the "fem's" of the butches.
Pick up and copy and take a ride on the island. See if Traf comes out of her slump, or suffers another setback.

Finally, love! Also, panties - lots of them.
Book 3 in the series finds our hero on the cusp of a big life change, and ends with an even bigger one. The characters only get warmer and the story more touching, and the ending will make you impatient for the next one even as you celebrate. Traf is finally on an even keel, or as even as possible for any of the Troublemakers, and continues to have more heart than any two people should, and more charm than any three.

This is the third book in the Troublemaker series and is now my favorite. Genta has outdone herself with this book. I loved it! And again, Traf is uhm, well Traf but you have to love her, despite herself. I love her and Betty’s chemistry and they are so sweet together. I can’t wait to see what Traf gets up to in the next book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Another journey with Traf and her gang of friends & lovers, and I loved every morsel!
Sweet, emotional, and the sex was hot 🔥
I'm curious if a 4th book is in the works given how this one ended. If there is, I'll be right there waiting!

Wow, what a twist
I enjoyed this whole series. I was not sure at first, but I am so happy I read all 3. Traf and Betty had a true love story. The series is well worth the read. I had all the feels.

The third book in the Troublemaker series, it can be read as a stand alone but to get the best experience from this book I would recommend reading the whole series in order.
I feel we have got to know Traf so well now, from her kind heart and always looking out for her friends, to her misguided Troublemaker ways at times. We have been through so many highs and lows in her life and this book does not disappoint when it comes to seeing more of what she gets up to. When you read this book you will get completely immersed in everything about Traf and the island that she lives on, it is so well written that you feel a part of her inner circle and are always rooting for a good outcome for them all (not always the case, but that's life isn't it!) It's also about helping others to get through the bad times and coming out the other side. These books really do give it all and I'm already chomping at the bit waiting for the next one.
