When Stormie Omartian was a child, her mother would lock her in a closet and say, "You are worthless, and you'll never amount to anything." How did a young girl who grew up in an abusive home learn to overcome her past pain to find emotional wholeness as an adult? Lord, I Want to Be Whole offers seven steps that helped Stormie overcome clinical depression and live a more fulfilling life. She shows readers how prayer and the encouragement of Scripture can help them come to terms with their past. She also tells how to find deliverance from spiritual oppression and negative influences, learn to receive God's gifts and believe the good things God says about us, become aware of deceptions and misconceptions, and maintain emotional health by taking care of our bodies and being sensitive to what is happening inside us. Lord, I Want to Be Who helps those who are troubled by depression find emotional wholeness and become all God made them to be

I read this book May last year and I'm still going back in some of the chapters every now and then. I'm only 20 years old. This book serves as my guide to overcome all the bondages I have since childhood. The wisdom of God in this book made me whole. Every chapter is every step of deliverance and finding the true meaning of God's love and graces. I can't explain the feeling of being whole with the love of God, it's for you to feel it. No words can describe how God works on our lives. I didn't say that I never feel any pain or negative feelings right now, I still do, the diffrence is that I know God is in the process of making me of who He want me to be. And that's what this book taught me - Living life with God's gifts by being who He want Me to be. We are all unique in God's creation. Now, Nothing can separate me from the love of God. I thank him for using Stormie to be "God's Wisdom Teller", she's such a blessing not only to me but also to my family and friends whom I shared her books and to all the people who have reach her books. Thank you Stormie. With love, Kakay, Philippines.
One of Stormie Omartian's best books, in my opinion! You never hear about this one! Jam packed with tremendous insight and practical wisdom, Stormie is disarmingly honest, drawing from her past experiences to help you overcome the reoccurring challenges in your life. It's a book that should be revisited because of the great principles in there.
A co-worker urged me to read this book and I wish I hadn't. I didn't realize the book was written by an extremely religious person from a religion I don't subscribe to.
The advice might be good for a church-going mom, but not for me. I didn't like the part about YOGA being a sign of Satan. That idea sounds paranoid to me. The Bible verses also seem to be taken out of context. It seemed to me that this book would only help those that have a "Daddy" complex and need to be told what to do.
Stormie's advice and experiences in this book helped me in my own relationship with God. It gave me a clearer picture of prayer and how God works in our lives. This is a must for any Christian who wants to be closer to God. It's separated into subjects which makes it an easy read.
Stormie Omartian is a New Age-influenced, false teaching-influenced, therapized woman with some issues. She has very little understanding of the Bible and Holy Spirit. What she says on repentance and forgiveness is good, but where is Jesus? She believes things such as 1)praying will empower or give you power 2)His voice speaks to our heart 3) don't miss out on good things, God has your best interests in mind 4) good health, success, easy life free of temptation, world peace, saving people are acceptable topics to pray to God 5) give God your burden 6) God will lift you above your difficult situations 7) you can limit God in disobedience 8) prayer is about your "needs" and feelings and opinions 9) God measure your prayers by how important they are to you 10) results from prayers take time 11) He will give you a new life you will enjoy so much that you won't want to travel back in your mind to the old one 12) loving God is easier than loving man 13) flow of the Holy Spirit will carry us wherever WE need to go 14) the devil hates it when you quote the Bible 15) the devil can't be around praise 16) just stop listening to negative thoughts 17) praise and reading the Bible is magic against negative feelings. Go watch Hardcore Christianity on Youtube. 1) Godhead has all the power, not the asker 2) He speaks to us through scriptures and His testimony first most, not feelings and experience 3) focus on self, not on missing out on God 4) all of those are earthly and Satanic and not according to scripture 5) you need to take up Jesus' burden 6) God will never let you rise above your circumstances in a New Age manner. He will go through it with you. Jesus came to suffer. He is Immanuel, God with us. 7) God is not limited, He just doesn't do certain things when there's unrepented sin 8) go to Lord's Prayer. Some of your needs are Satanic, of the flesh. It's God who must be glorified. 9) God measures your prayers by whether they are according to His Will 10) Daniel 10:12-13 11) John 16:33 12) 1 John 4:20, 1 John 3:10 13) Acts 1:8, John 3:8 14) The devil loves to spread false doctrine and distort the Word. You must quote the Bible with faith and understanding to defeat him. Be a serious student of the Bible 15) the devil was the worship leader. He is leading you away from Christ with music from Hillsong, Bethel, Jesus Culture, Lauren Daigle, etc. 16) watch Hardcore Christianity on Youtube. You must fight facts and lies with the Truth of the Word of God. You can't ignore them. 17) There are seriously mentally ill Christians. They are that way because of demons, and those must be cast out. Jesus called deliverance "the children's bread."
Tenía tanto para decir pero al pasar los días se me paso... En sí la autora tiene una visión bien fanática de las cosas despreciando el trabajo y esfuerzo de médicos, sin embargo hubo cosas positivas ya casi al final.
The author hints at a prosperity gospel. One of deposits and withdrawals. There are no doubt some helpful thoughts for those dealing with past trauma, but not much was based on scripture. She used scripture to affirm her own ideas.
⁉️what is emotional health? 👉🏻 having total peace about who you are, what you’re doing, where you’re going, both individual and in relationship to those around you. It’s knowing that you’re in line with God’s ultimate purpose for you and being fulfilled in that.
Forgiveness leads to life. Unforgiveness is a slow death. It means you can’t have all that God has for you and you will not be free of emotional pain. It’s a two-way street. God forgives you, you forgive others.
We have to choose daily to allow the mind of Christ to be in us and the wisdom of God to guide us.
You don’t have to choose the will of hell for it to happen; it will happen if you are not choosing the will of God.
Radiating Love toward others is part of perfecting God’s love in you. It also causes people to love you more.
A heart that is pure in love toward God is always a heart that desires to obey Him. 📍Don’t focus on what’s going on around you, but rather Who is in you.
High self-esteem means seeing yourself as God sees you, and recognizing that you are a unique person in whom He has placed specific gifts, talents, and purposes unlike anyone else.
If you have a willing heart this book can really open your eyes! Stormie points out all the areas in which we choose to hold on to emotional baggage and how damaging it can be. She gives simple steps for you to connect with God and ask for His deliverance from emotional bondage. My favourite section was her digging deep into common emotional pitfalls - very powerful and enlightening. The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is because when she shares her experiences sometimes they're a bit dramatic. I'm not suggesting that she's fabricating them, but if a new believer reads it they might be disappointed when their depression doesn't disappear in a day like she says her's did. I really like how she always gives prayer suggestions and parallel Bible passages.
Stormie is an amazing woman and an awesome author.
In this book, she willingly shares the most intimate issues of her abusive childhood and the path that lead her on. But, this is not to be a sad story because Stormie quickly gives us the prescription for restoration and healing...bring everything to God and TRUST HIM to care for you.
Of course that is my very simple description of the book... Stormie goes into detail and gives examples for each topic she covers as well as prayers to use and Scripture to back up everything she says.
God bless Stormie!

Hands down the best self-help book I've ever read. This is not for sissies though, it will dig into every area of your life and who you are and dredge out the muck, making you a new and better person. My wife and I read this book at the same time and the transformation in our marriage and parenting has been amazing. I feel so much freedom from burdens I'd been carrying way too long by going through the exercises in this book. This is not just a book for women, this was very relevant to my life as well. Thank you, Stormie for writing a book that changed my life for the better.
In all my years of therapy and working on healing from my own childhood abuse, divorce, and my husband's suicide which in turn caused painful issues between me and one of my children, this book, and it's the 5th one of Stormie's that I have read, has by far been the best in helping my overall healing. It has caused me to reach into those dark recesses, and uncover the pain and hurt not yet given totally to God, and guided me to healing. I can't say enough good things about this amazing book!
I think this was the one I read in 1992 or 1993 as "A Step in the Right Direction". She republished it later. It's a good reference book for a myriad of problems she struggled through. It was a big help to me!
LOVE IT!!! Very practical spiritual and Biblical advice. This is one of those books i keep in my library and refer back to it every now and then to review. Wholeness and healing is an ongoing process and every now and then we need to review and renew our minds with TRUTH. GO, STORMIE!!!
Stormie is authentic and provided her testimony!!! I still refer to it when I going through trials and tribulations in my life. Discuss Biblical principles and how to apply principles to your life. Thank you for writing this book for us!
An incredibly difficult (in a good way) read for one’s perspective on self, faith and life. This book has made a huge impact on my spiritual walk and challenged me in numerous ways. Not a book for the faint of heart but if you’re up for facing your demons, this is it.
What a powerful read. I couldn't put this down. In going through a divorce, I could find peace in my struggle as I read this. I ended up sending my now ex-wife a copy. Wish I had read this sooner. We both benefited from it.
The first Stormie Omartian book I've read so far and it's easy to see why she's so popular. I learnt a lot about healing, deliverance and wholeness from her journey.
