I highly recommend reading this book. It has the perfect amount of suspense, intrigue, excitement, spice and magic. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I wanted to know more and I am really hoping there's at least a second book. I need to know what happens next. Absolutely loved the book aside from that though. I loved how there was solid world building and you really feel for the main characters and they are both loveable. Also I love the fact that the MMC isn't a total jerk which is normally associated with the Lycans in the other books I have read, so it was a nice surprise.
“She believed she could and therefore she could.” A few chapters in, the story leaves the intrigue of undercover agent life and enters a supernatural world. The Vampire world is decadent. The Lycan world is dangerous. Both worlds are motivated by power, but there’s more to Morgan than meets the eye, and I suspect both worlds will have to reckon with her sort of power. Morgan’s self-discovery and her subsequent witch training is enjoyable. Of course, I like the addition of witches doing yoga to connect to nature. The story gets exciting after a stealthy Vampire makes his move. As the story progressed, I found myself on the side of romance and hoped Morgan could safely tell Tristan her secrets and avoid ruining both their lives, and their love, with her investigation.
Will probably get hated for this, but I DNF this one. I tried and tried but kept drifting away from it. Looked at other reviews to see if I was just a me thing and maybe it is. I think it could be a great story, and I had to really think about what I couldn't get past. So here it is. I thought many things were way over explained. I felt I needed to pay attention because there must some reason the author went into so much detail about this and that. Then, I was let down because it's just the way it was done. Really didn't need to pay that much attention at all. This kept happening over and over, so I started skipping through the details. The POV's also switched back and forth constantly. 1st person to third person, and I felt a little lost in the flow. Maybe later I will try it again.
This book hooked me from the prologue and kept me engaged and intrigued through the epilogue. It was a fantastic read with a few twists that I did NOT see coming! And when they came, I even said out loud "Whaaaat?! I did not see that coming!", which tells you how into the book I was. Highly recommended and I hope there will be more to the story in future books.
I enjoyed the story but did not enjoy the storytelling. It’s just not a writing style I found compelling and I think the story itself would be hard to put down if told in another style.
The Undercover Agent and the Lycan introduces the reader to an intriguing world of witches, lycans, and vampires. The lore and worldbuilding was very well done and very original. Unfortunately, the writing style didn’t gel with me and the book often read more like an outline than a finished novel. The main actions were all told, with very little shown, which made it hard to identify with the characters, e.g. many scenes went along the lines of “Morgan and Tristan talked about x and decided to do y the next day”, but the reader was not shown what was actually said. Did they both agree on what to do from the start? Did one of them have to convince the other? What’s their dynamic? Who knows? It made for a frustrating read, as I wanted more information that never came. The most problematic aspect for me though was Morgan herself. She was a complete Mary-Sue. She is the best agent (we’re told, not shown, but it’s believable). Soon after the start she discovers that she’s a witch, but not just any witch, the most powerful witch that anyone has ever known, and she masters all of her powers within the space of a single weekend without breaking a sweat. Nothing phases her, and everything comes naturally. It became annoying after a while, because there was no tension. Of course Morgan would win whatever fight she chose to fight. I never feared for her as a reader, as it became predictable that she could do everything. Having said that, the world and the lore, as well as the storyline were well done. Given that this is the author’s first book, it’s very likely that the next one will be better. My rating is three stars - enjoyable and has potential despite the problems.

Witches, wolves and vampires cross paths in this supernatural tale, that follows undercover agent Morgan, as she attempts to seek out information about a string of drug overdoses in the Midlands. It isn’t long before Morgan makes a startling discovery about her own life and embarks upon a rather different path to the one she was on.
Morgan is a likeable and at times vulnerable young woman, you will find that you are rooting for her and her love interest, Tristan, as they try to put various pieces of the puzzle together.
There is indeed much to like in this story, but I do feel the need to say that the frequent and sometimes random, pov changes can be irritating. Also, there is a lot of narrative that tells rather than shows the story, the impact of this is that you can feel a bit remote at times, rather than immersed. I would have liked a bit more discussion about the issues too, rather than explanations about everyday life.
However, don’t let that put you off, the witches are enchanting, the lycans are loyal and the vampires are brutal, there are some great characters and the humans aren’t bad either.
This book is aimed at the adult audience and contains mature themes such as vampire violence and sexual content, so definitely age 16+.
Really enjoyed it. I foolishly started reading it before bed and ended up not going to sleep until 3am because I kept promising myself just one more chapter! I'm now invested in Agent Morgan and can't wait to find out more.
