Will she fight for the dust and crown or let the kingdom crumble?

She's left with just one clue about her friend's disappearance- and that clue points her to Paris.

The ancient dust tree that sustains the fairy kingdom is dying, and Fyodar believes Nastia is the only one who can save it. But while Fyodar and Igor help her search for the truth, the fairy king's men haunt their steps.
Will they survive the dangerous quest and will Nastia rediscover her identity? If so, what will it cost her?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An absolute five-star read!
If you’re a fan of Anastasia and Fairies this book is practically made for you! Why? Because it beautifully blends that whimsical charm and heartwarming journey of self-discovery that both characters and charm embody.

The story follows a main character who has lost her memories—but as she begins to uncover her past, she also discovers her true identity, forms meaningful friendships, and grows in ways that are both magical and deeply emotional. I was completely swept up in the cozy, fast-paced narrative. It’s the perfect blend of mystery, warmth, and wonder.

As a longtime Anastasia and Disney Fairy lover, I dove into this book with high hopes—and it exceeded every one of them. There’s no spice, just clean storytelling filled with heart. You can feel the love and care the author poured into every page.

If you're looking for a wholesome, feel-good escape with a touch of magic and a lot of heart, I can’t recommend this enough. A true gem!

A cozy fantasy novella for fans of Anastasia and the Disney Tinker Bell movies!

While I am a fan of both of the above, I think I prefer my fairy tale retellings to be more loosely based on the original. Because this was quite similar to the Anastasia film, I found myself a bit bored. I also wanted to feel a little more immersed into the pixie side of it. Sometimes I almost forgot they were faeries because it wasn’t quite descriptive enough for me, personally. But I know that’s how I often feel with novellas, since there’s just not quite enough time to depict a super vivid atmosphere.

But critiques aside, this was cozy and well written, and I think people who love to see their retellings pay proper homage to the original might really enjoy this!

Dust and Crown by Havelah McClat is an enchanting story filled with magic, friendship, and adventure. This story held my interest and was an enjoyable read for me. I particularly loved the Anastasia-retelling vibes set against the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia that occurred a century ago. As a history lover, I enjoyed all the little nods to the historical time period where the story of Anastasia took place. But Havelah puts a lovely twist on that familiar tale by having this be a magical world with fairies that involves a dust tree that grants them the ability to fly. But when an invasion occurs by a rogue fairy named Lenin, who takes control of the dust tree, the fairy realm is plunged into dark times. Nastia, the main protagonist, who has a special connection to the dust tree, will have to regain her memories and choose to help her fellow fairies, or they will continue to suffer under the false King Lenin's control.

This is a lovely, clean read for youngsters, and adults, who love a story with magic, fairies, found family, friendship, standing up to tyranny, and choosing to do what's right. I'm excited to see what Havelah McClat puts out next!

Dust and Crown gave me definite Tinkerbell vibes with its whimsical yet adventurous feel. The story is fast-paced and very easy to get into, making it a great pick for younger YA readers and teenagers. This is my second book from the author, and once again, she has delivered an enjoyable read. While it’s not deeply layered fantasy, it works perfectly if you’re looking for something light, magical, and quick to dive into. Thank you to the author for providing me with this ARC. This review is honest and entirely my own.

Alright! This story is amazing! 🤩 I absolutely enjoyed Anastasia! And Fyoder. Well, he’s quite a character. I didn’t like the “king”. 😑 nope. Not one bit. And the R guy. Forgive me but I suddenly forgot his name. I loved what he did for Anastasia! 😢 *spoiler* but he died!

Highly recommend reading. Not heavy on magic. Just gold dust. If you like clean fairy stories, you’ll like this one!

*small warning for those who are stricter in their language* there was one word used a few times that probably isn’t necessarily a bad word but it’s one my family doesn’t say

Besides that, have at it folks! Hope you have as much fun as I did!

*I received an ARC copy of this story and all thoughts are my own*

This was a very enjoyable read. Fairies, kingdoms, and cottagecore vibes come together to weave a wonderful tale that will keep you intrigued. I read this in one sitting because I really wanted to see where the characters would end up. This lovely tale had great themes of strong friendships, duty, and sacrifice. I especially enjoyed the world building and fairy lore.

Whether you like cozy stories, adventurous quests, or fairytales and fantasy, this book has something for you.

I love Havelah Mc Lats books this one is so whimsical!!! The friendships between the characters are so sweet and shows how close they are too. When the Dust tree is attacked characters must find a way to save each other and one fairy finds them self along the way. Will the dust tree be saved? I won’t spoilt it by saying but it’s an action packed story.

While this book is written for young adult I really enjoyed this as an adult and it would also be suitable for children a bit younger who can read at a higher level. Lovers of fairy tales, fairys, pixie hollow and anastasia.

Dust and Crown by Havelah McLat was a truly delightful read for me. From the lovely cover to the very end, the story was enchanting and engaging. The pacing and plot were perfect from the first pages, and I found myself looking forward to each new chapter. The world building was done especially well in this novella, and fairy lovers such as myself will enjoy the magical world the author created. I loved the characters, as well as the friend group and the themes of loyalty and found family. The adventure was exciting and the stakes were high, and yet this was a comfort read for me, and the ending was everything I hoped for. I highly recommend this to readers who love a magical, feel good tale!

Caught in the aftermath of a brutal revolution, Nastia finds herself unable to remember who she is. Taken in by a local fairy, Nastia is content to work for her until her friend goes missing. Forced to join with two fairies, Fyodar and Igor, the three embark on a journey to save the fairy kingdom and restore Nastia’s memories.

Fans of Tinkerbell and Anastasia will appreciate the rich lushness balanced with the evils of humanity. It’s a delightfully charming world that doesn’t ignore the darkness. I’ve always loved Anastasia legends so this was a welcome treat.

Havelah’s descriptions of the world, food, and clothes are written with beautiful depth and reminds me of books that inspired my imagination as a child, especially the dresses made from flowers.

I definitely recommend for nostalgia purposes and the uplifting story is an added bonus.

Take yourself on an adorable fairy adventure with Nastia (Anastasia) - a fairy who lost her memory during an attack on their kingdom - and Fyodar as they escape the terrorizing reign of King Lenin. When they discover Nastia’s true identity and she begins to regain her memory, she must make a choice.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I gave this book four stars because my kids absolutely adored this book. It is a very quick read and easy reading level. It is a very cutesy book 💕

This was a cute, unique fantasy retelling of Anastasia. There is a small amount of world building, and the plot moves along quickly. This feels perfect for a younger reader interested in diving into the world of Faeries and magic! Full of found family, friendship and lessons about standing up against evil, this was a fun read!!

This fantasy novella is a wonderfully delightful story of friendship and finding purpose. I loved Nastia’s journey to finding her memories and her missing friend. There was plenty of light suspense a hint of mystery, making this a good read for upper middle grade readers to young adults. While there are some perils, the book is a clean and satisfying standalone story.

I found the different wing types on the fairies quite interesting and it made me want to look up the different insects so I could see the unique wings each fairy had and how they matched that character’s personality. Unlike McLat’s other books, this one has no romance and instead focuses on friendships, standing up for what’s right, and finding confidence.

3.75! A cute fantasy novel that serves as a loose retelling of Anastasia the Musical, with elements of the animated movie and loose historical facts. And Disney-esque fairies and a hair-raising escape from Russia to Paris! The book is full of charming characters; the friendship dynamics between Nastia, Fyodar, and Igor are endearing. It's a book that isn't bogged down with too much political conflict or violence. It's a fantasy book that older and younger readers can sit back and enjoy. While I wish there was a little more world-building, the tree and dust were fantastic additions; it’s still a well-written story. There are twists I legitimately didn’t see coming. It’s a fun and delightful read!

Certainly a book for the Disney Fans.
Gave a Disney Fairies version of Anastasia.

It starts off in Russia and moves towards Paris but get this...Anastasia is a Fairy.
Yup, her memory loss & hidden potential are keeping her from doing something so important.

Guess that's all I really say without giving spoilers. Just have to read to find out. However, I find this book full of adventure, quite enchanting, & comfortable.

Recommend this book especially for fairytale lovers & Disney lovers.

It was an ARC.
My review in my own honest opinion.

“Dust and Crown” by HavelahMclat (ARC review)

👑If you enjoy reading beautiful books about faeries with a slight historical hint, you’ll enjoy reading this novella.

🧚🏼‍♂️The Plot: We follow the beautiful young fairy, Anastasia. The fairy faces the choice of whether to fight for the dust and crown or let the kingdom collapse. Meanwhile, Anastasia is about to find out what happened to her friend Ira, who was kind to her and helped her immensely. Anastasia sets off on an adventurous journey, where she meets new friends, faces new challenges, and solves some riddles.

🧚🏼‍♂️The Writing Style: I literally savored this novella. The writing style is easy, adventurous, and enjoyable to read. I dived into the magical whirlpool of dangerous adventures, solid friendships, heartwarming and heart-squeezing feelings, captivating riddles, and elegant musical scenes. The world-building is well-thought, and the slight historical aspect is masterfully included in the plot. This graceful novella conquered my bookish soul from the first lines and kept me in suspense till the last chapter. By the way, my favorite chapter is 13. Why? If you enjoy charming scenes with elegant outfits and music of the same style, you’ll like it as much as I did.

🧚🏼‍♂️The Characters: There are many fantastic characters. Both villains and heroes are portrayed brilliantly! A solid emotional bridge was established between me and the characters at once! So you won’t get lost! On the contrary, you can’t get enough of their captivating adventures.

😀Fave quote: I'll add the quote when the book is officially out! :)

🥰Would I read other books by this author: Sure!

👑My humble rating is: 5/5

🙏🏼P.S. I’m enormously grateful to Havelah McLat for an opportunity to read an ARC copy of “Dust and Crown.”

☀️I sincerely hope that you’ll enjoy reading this glorious novella as much as I did.

🥳The release date is on July 10, 2024.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What a fun, lighthearted read! I truly enjoyed the world-building that Havelah Mclat created in Dust and Crown. I believe that it truly helped with building her characters in her book. I love that this book is filled with a quest/adventure you can follow along with. I appreciate that it is a book that has newfound friendships, but in my opinion, it feels more like a newfound family!

This is a YA book that follows a young fairy named Nastia, who loses her memory. She journeys to find her friend named, Ira(my sister’s name, btw), who disappears. Like I mentioned, her friend’s name is Ira, and I love that the name “Ira” is used. I don’t see that name used so often or hear it so often. I know that’s completely irrelevant to this review, but I had to add that in. I just find that pretty cool. While she travels to find her friend, she also finds herself experiencing some sense of self-discovery. There’s a lot about herself that she ends up figuring out and learning of. During her journey, she also runs into two outcasts, named Igor and Fyodar. We end up learning about the magical dust tree and the significance it plays in Nastia’s being. I love the banter between their little group. I feel like this book hits all elements of fun, whimsical, adventure, newfound friendships, newfound family, fairies, riddles, and much more. This book is definitely giving me Anastasia and Robin Hood vibes, and I am not mad about it. This book also has no romance, and I’m also not mad about that. I love that this book is very much adventure-based, and typically, in a lot of the books that I’ve come across, romance is the main plot. The fact that the romance in this book is not, and it’s still very good, is definitely two thumbs up from me! I don’t want to write much more without giving out any spoilers. This is worth reading! Truly a lovely book.

This is a book about fairies in the kingdom of роялти - Royalty. It is a wonderful story about friendship, adventure, and magic. The two main characters are Nastia and Fyodar. It follows the story of both fairies who along with their friends go on an adventure to restore Nastia's memory of who she is. Nastia loses her memory of who she is when a party in the Kingdom ends with an attack and the king ends up dead. When someone else takes over as the new King things start to go bad. The Dust Tree (fairy dust) is crucial but since the Dust Tree did not choose this new ruler the Dust Tree is suffering and not producing Dust any longer. While on their adventure Nastia and her friends discover she has a connection to the Dust Tree but aren't fully sure what that means. They Travel to Paris in hopes of returning an item Queen Marie left behind when she fled the party once the attack started. But also, in hopes of helping Nastia figure out who she is and get her memory back. This was a lovely read that I did not want to put down. Each chapter flowed so well. This is the perfect read for all ages!

Dust and Crown by Havelah McClat delivers a magical twist on the beloved Anastasia legend, reimagined for YA readers. When Nastia wakes with no memory of who she is, she’s drawn into a journey that will change everything. Guided by unlikely friends, she uncovers pieces of her past—pieces that may be the key to restoring the kingdom’s most precious treasure, the Dust Tree, which grants fairies the gift of flight.

This enchanting adventure blends fairy-tale magic with the excitement of a quest, offering dazzling details like gowns made from flower petals and shimmering dust that sparkles in the air. Nastia’s quest is full of heart—there’s friendship, bravery, and the thrill of discovering who you really are. The pacing keeps young readers hooked, while the uplifting themes make it a story that lingers long after the final page.

Perfect for fans of Anastasia, Disney’s Tinker Bell movies, or any reader who loves magical worlds and courageous heroines, Dust and Crown is a heartfelt, hopeful fantasy that feels like a warm hug wrapped in adventure.

Sparkling and sweet!!

Filled with tensions and adventure, witty banter and a rag-tag crew that grows their friendship through hardship and challenges, Dust and Crown is perfect for lovers of Pixie Hollow and Anastasia. (Or just any fairy story, period!)
When the fairy tree is attacked by rebels with crows and the king is killed, all seems lost for this little kingdom. But a Queen has been chosen...although she does not remember her true name at the moment.
When Nastia sets out with Igor and Fyodor to Paris, after her friend goes missing, she has one clue leading her to Paris. But with the False King's soldiers hot on their heels, things are not gonna be easy.
My favorite character is one who cannot be named because of *cough* spoilers. But I also really enjoy Igor, and all of the interaction between the friends! :)

I received an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!

Dust and Crown is a super sweet fantasy novel with vibes of fairies, adventure, suspense, danger and peril with strong friendships ties, team work and standing up for what’s right. I loved reading this book with my 12 year old and being able to share in all the exciting emotions of Anastasia’s journey of regaining her memory, building new friendships and being faced with the decision to stand up and fight for the crown or run and hide. The story was well written, kept us engaged and excited for the next chapter as our hearts were pulled into this exciting drama.

There is some mild violence and death of fairies as the kingdom is overtaken, but I didn’t feel like anything inappropriate for my daughters age. Also there is no romance or spicy scenes just a story of sweet friendships made along the way. I recommend this enchanting story for fairy loving adults and YA readers.

Quick read

If you are looking for a feel good quick read this is for you.

Dust and Crown is a compelling fantasy that blends political intrigue, strong character dynamics, and themes of personal identity with a richly imagined world. The story follows Princess Eda as she navigates the expectations of royalty while wrestling with her own desire for purpose and authenticity. Archer’s writing is emotionally resonant, with sharp dialogue and a thoughtful exploration of responsibility and courage. Perfect for fans of court politics and introspective heroines, this novel is both a satisfying standalone and a strong addition to the author’s broader universe.

Anastasia meets fairies, what's not to love!

It's a super cute, clean adventure with a dangerous quest to help save the dust tree and bring back peace to the kingdom.

I read it within 4 hours I didn't want to put it down, can't wait to read this with my kids.

When I was younger my favourite movie was Anastasia, and my mum would tell us stories about fairies who lived in the garden. This book managed to bring back memories of those stories.

The nods to the movie were well written, and the fairy who worked in the kitchen helped them escape.

I was excited to review this for @bookwormbookspr, it was well written and an easy read though I was a bit surprised that it was inspired by Anastasia the Russian Princess story, a lot of details were VERY similar to the animated movie - which is a favourite, even down to the gown she wore to the opera…
Was a great twist to the story using fairies and magical dust (elements from Tinkerbell in here too).

This was a really cute and cozy fairytale retelling of Anastasia. If you like Disney, then I definitely recommend this one for you.

When Nastia loses her memory after an attack, her and Fyodar set out on a journey to Paris to try to restore her memory, and return one of the Queens possessions that she lost during the attack.
Without giving too much away, this story is full of adventure, hardship, some challenges and finding the true meaning of friendship. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

The premise of this story intrigued me at first - fairies, cottagecore vibes and magic. However, I was unable to finish this book as it didn’t grab enough attention for me. The depth of world building and plot development felt a little lacking and I wound myself wanting a bit more than superficial level descriptions of what the characters looked like.
