Coletti Warlords #16

Romancing the Feral

Rate this book
Much to her parents’ delight, Zadie’s angelic appearance and unique psychic abilities won her the title of master thief by the time she was twelve years old. Zadie wasn’t so elated, she hated stealing.

Her parents’ life of crime was how they ended up on Gliese, the hellhole of the galaxy, where every day was a fight for survival, and the inhabitants would slit your throat for a scrap of food, or a bottle of clean water. Zadie’s innocent appearance hides the feral warrior she’s becoming.

Jedrick, commander of a Coletti battle group, is stunned to discover this dangerous child is his future mate and it's a full-time job keeping her alive. Will she live to see twenty-one?

Snippet: I met Battle Commander Jedrick when I was twelve. He thought the laser pistol on my gun belt was a toy and boy was he surprised when I stunned him. Word to the wise, never, ever piss off a Coletti warrior.

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for thirty-one years and to keep insanity at bay, I took up writing. Not to worry. The insanity isn’t catching – much. Other than the addiction to chocolate and the twitch in my left eye, I’m good. I just finished, Stilettoes and Gunpowder book #3 in the Gemma Stone series.

Fighting for her very life at the back end of the galaxy, a young half-alien psychic girl thief doesn’t know who to trust until a fierce Coletti Battle Commander shows her she can turn over a new leaf and work for the good. But, he’ll have to catch her first. Gail Koger puts the fun in exciting sci-fi romances that crackle with sexual tension and bring it with the strong, sassy heroines.

Romancing the Feral is the sixteenth entry in the Coletti Warlords series and introduces the first part of Zadie and Jedrick’s romance adventures. Jedrick is brother to the hero of Wulf and the Bounty Hunter and there are several interactions with earlier series characters which I was thrilled to read plus an assumption that the reader is already familiar with the Coletti Warlords world.

Unlike most books in the series, Romancing the Feral introduces a child heroine. Zadie is twelve, but she has a lot of mileage under her belt and looks on life with a weary, wariness because of her hardscrabble existence and experiences with the dregs of the galaxy.
But, several encounters with a Coletti who is after her and her thieving family show her that there is another possibility if she is willing to leave behind all she knows and take a chance that there are people out there who will treat her as a person and not a hot commodity.
Zedrick is all Coletti alpha male, but there is something special about him. Zedrick respects Zadie and her wishes are taken into consideration even when she brings home orphaned alien critters and lands them all in lots of trouble. Did I mention the comedy is high in this series?

Romancing the Feral is the first of a two-part story with no romance at this point because Zadie is underage though the intense events at the end set things up for a humdinger of a sci-fi romance in the next book. Like all the series heroines, Zadie is tough and a fighter and I can’t wait to see her blazing through the galaxy as a woman come into her own. The series is mostly light-hearted sci-fi romantic comedy, but Romancing the Feral is a smidge less on the light notes and I can highly recommend both book and series.

I rec'd an eARC from the author to read in exchange for an honest review.

enjoyed

I enjoyed reading this one. It tells a tale of a very gifted girl who was taught to be a thief. While still in her teens she meets her Colletti warrior and learns to fight. She also meets some relatives she did not know about. It is an exciting read and I look forward to the next book in the series. She and her Colletti warrior are awaiting her 21st birthday so they can finally mate. Recommend this book and the series.

Great Book

I loved this book! Action from the get go to the end. I loved seeing how the young girl progressed in her fighting skills and how her relationship with the Coletti warrior turned from animosity to respect and friendship. Cannot wait for book 2 when she becomes of age, 21 in the Coletti culture.

This book is fast moving and follows the Colette Warlord template. I liked that the heroine was young but had so many talents. I recommend this book!!

I really liked this book. It was a bit different than the previous books in the series. I would have rated it higher if the female MC would have been older at the start of the story. It bothered me a bit that the male MC met her at such a young age. It also ended in a cliff hanger which I don’t particularly like. Overall, it was a really good story and I can’t wait for the next one to come out.

Love my Warlords

Zadie has been nothing but a commodity to her "loved ones". Born and raised by thieves she became a master at a young age.

When a heist with her uncle goes wrong she ends up on the radar of Commander Jedrick.
When things once again go arse over the tea kettle and she finds herself the target of a bounty it is Jedrick and his comrades who come to her rescue

This was a bit different from some of the other matches as Zadie is still young so we get to watch her come into her powers and make her choices.
Jedrick gives her plenty of time and space to grow into her own but he takes no risks when it comes to her welfare.

Zadie is such a little...
Honestly?
The kid is beyond feral, absolutely no brain-to-mouth filter, but she has a heart of gold
All those years on the wrong side of the law did not warp her moral compass

I enjoyed the banter, the camaraderie between the cast
There were some light angst moments and come-to-the-light moments
Packed with action, and some violence which you expect during an intergalactic war
A few twists and OMG moments
Overall though
Another wonderful addition to the series

As you come to expect from Koger there is lots of laughter, some serious "aw" moments, found family, and love

Sweetness & light

I enjoyed how quickly the storyline moved & how the young female character's role developed. I thought the feral part at the end was a bit drawn out & clunky but, otherwise, very entertaining.
I admit I enjoyed seeing Zarek show a bit of "humanity" without being soppy.
I guess the extreme youth of the main female character disturbed me a bit but only one stars worth.

Children's Book

This book is another one of the authors that is more about an underage female main character along with an older male. Not one that we have come to expect from the author.
