Denial is a dish best served with a side of benefits and a best friend.
Sonya Cartelli is sunlight personified. Ever the optimist, she is always looking on the sunny side, but when one conversation leads to the topic of casual sex, she finds herself wondering if she has it in her and who better to find out with than her best friend? The only problem is—she’s in complete denial over what they really are. She says they’re friends, but friends don’t light up for each other the way Sonya does for Walker. Though admitting that out loud will open a can of worms she isn’t equipped to handle, so she denies, denies, denies.
Walker Bodie knew the moment he saw Sonya she was someone special. When they met a year ago, she was adamant about staying single for the start of her university journey so, he buried what he always knew was there. When she offers herself up on a silver platter for a temporary arrangement, he initially turns her down out of fear of what it would do to their friendship, only to realize he doesn’t want her doing this with anyone but him.
With rules in place, nothing could possibly go wrong, but when their feelings start getting tangled in the sheets they’re forced to face the fact that nothing about this feels like just friends anymore and it never really did.
Ashley Kathleen is an Alberta-born indie romance author of swoonworthy heroes and strong heroines. Overall, I did like this book. It was a fun and enjoyable contemporary romance. Characters were developed really well and the connection between Sonya and Walker felt so real, felt like something I’ve felt before. I liked Walker and how one side of him is quite nervous around Sonya but once they start sleeping together, we see his more dominant side.
While I did like them already starting out as really good friends, I feel like it would’ve been nice to see some of that friendship a bit more before Sonya mentions the arrangement. It was basically in the first chapter, and it kind of throws us into the deep end, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but we just didn’t get much of them as friends before the offer is made. We only really see their friendship once they’re sleeping together but by then it’s more than friends.
I felt like a lot of things were really repetitive. I liked how their feelings for each other in their narration were mentioned a lot, but it seemed like the same descriptors every time, so it became quite repetitive. I noticed this even more towards the end after they’ve confessed their love. It was just a lot of “you’re stuck with me,” “we’re in this together,” “I’ll be with you forever” over and over again. Some people might be okay with that, but I felt that it was way too repetitive.
There were a few nicknames in this book, and while nicknames are great and show characterisation, they need to be explained. Walker is Cowboy because he accidentally introduced himself as being from Georgia. Sonya is Sunny because it’s similar to her name and she’s basically the epitome of sunshine. Fitz is Fitz because it’s his last name shortened. But why does Walker’s mum call him Peach? Why is Campbell Soup? These are such random names that they need some explanation. Evy for Everett I understand, but based on the description of him and his personality, I don’t think it suits him.
I don’t typically read contemporary romances, so all in all this was a fun read.

The book started with them all hot and bother for each other and I felt like I missed something. It felt like it started in the middle of a story. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it didn't really work for me when there really wasn't any background about the characters. The little we got wasn't enough for me. I also didn't feel the chemistry until they confessed their feelings. It felt forced and was happening only because that was the plot. I also didn't really understand the friendships. The only friendship that really made big appearance was between Walker and Flynn. Everyone else was just randomly added for the stories sake and probably future books. And it felt like this book was as much about Flynn as it was about Walker and Sonya. I also didn't get the nicknames they had. They didn't really fit them. I still can't see Walker as a lawyer. Especially since he couldn't confront his mother and tell her the truth. How is he going to defend anyone when he can't stand up for himself. If he's a people pleaser how would that work as a lawyer? I did like the idea of Sonya creating the app for the players. And I liked the chapters after they confessed their love. The sneak peek we get of other couples also intrigued me and I have my assumptions who's ending up with whom.
this was a good book for the end of my college vacation because it was cutesy and light hearted !! it doesn’t have much drama or third act break up, so if you’re looking for a friends to lovers with no drama, this book is for you !
well, at the beginning, sonya was hot and cold after proposing the friends with benefits idea and getting rejected, i would say that she definitely knew her values !
i wish there had been some kind of flashback showing the beginning of their friendship and explaining the meaning behind some nicknames and inside jokes.
i felt the book was a bit shallow. both characters had conflicts, such as walker’s apprehension about the internship and his mom, and sonya’s concerns about the app. and of course, both of them were always thinking about their possible friendship break up.
what annoyed me was how fast things got solved, always too quick and the lack of depth was present. their conversations were really superficial, when one was overwhelmed, the other would be like “everything will be okay” and that was it.
thank you ashley kathleen for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review !!
💭Thoughts: You know when you love a book SO much it can be hard to put your thoughts into words? That’s how I feel about One Day!
This book had me hooked right from the dedication... then I read the first line in Chapter 1... HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER!! If it wasn’t for adult responsibilities, I would have finished this book in one sitting… it’s THAT GOOD!
Sunny and Walker are absolute perfection. The chemistry between them is out of this world incredible. I loved them from the very beginning.
This is Ashley Kathleen’s debut novel and she knocked it out of the park with this one. The supporting characters in this book were just as great as the main characters. Ashley Kathleen leaves you wanting to know more about them and I can’t wait for more books from her.
This is a book EVERYONE should be adding to their TBR!
Releasing August 23!
Thank you @ashkathwrites for the opportunity to read and review.
🌻 Friends with Benefits to Lovers 🍑 Boy Obsessed 🌻 It’s Always Been You 🍑 No Third Act Break-up 🌻 Sugar & Spice 🍑 She Has a Nickname for Him 🌻 Found Family
One Day was such an adorable read! Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Ashley did such a beautiful job weaving together Sonya’s and Walker’s friendship, attraction and finally realization they were in love with each other. Sunny and Cowboy were also the perfect nicknames for each other. I love when the MMCs fall hard, and Walker was such a simp for Sonya. He was the perfect combination of intelligent, caring, possessive and sexy.
I would give anything to be part of their friend group, especially Dylan who I cannot wait to learn more about. I have a feeling Dylan, Campbell and Fitz are going to be my favorite trio of hockey players as the series continues. They were amazing friends to the group and I loved how supportive and protective they were of Sonya.
I highly recommend One Day for a cute, college age romance. Cannot wait for the rest of the series! Thank you Ashley for letting me be part of your ARC team.
“There is no future without her in it. I want this. I want all the small things. I want all the big things. I want everything.”

What to expect: 💛Friends with Benefits to Lovers 💛College age romance 💛It’s always been you 💛Found family 💛No third act break-up
This was a cute low stakes romance novel. It started off quite nice, but midway through it became a bit boring. Like Walker and Sonya get into a friends with benefits relationship and then they progress to getting emotionally connected as well thus leading to them actually dating. But that progression happened way too smoothly.
What I did wish for more was for some tension or some drama, it felt like everything happened too easily, there was no conflict, they just confessed their feelings at the same time and got together. I don’t know but I wanted some drama. It felt like something was missing.
As for the characters, Walker is the type of cute guy one would have a crush on in high school. Sonya is this bold woman who’s trying her best to make it in the tech industry which is already male-dominated. I loved the group of friends Sonya had and how they supported her and one another like a family. I think I can already see the different couples forming amongst Sonya and Walker’s friends and hope to see them in the upcoming novels.
If you do wanna read a sweet, simple college romance with no drama or tension, you can check this out.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sonya's life is a busy one. But she's surrounded by an amazing group of friends and her favourite person in the world, Walker. The only thing she's missing is s*x. When her friends start joking, that she already has a boyfriend sans the benefits, Sunny starts to wonder if that could be the solution to her problem. Walker has been drawn to Sonya since the day she accidentally landed on his lap. Sunny made it clear she didn't want a boyfriend. So he ignored his feelings to be her friend instead. But after she boldly asks him, if he wanted to be friends with benefits, lines start to blurr and things are about to change. The only thing Walker knows for sure, he can't lose her. This book is soooo cosy and funny and heartwarming. There's no third act break up, Sunny and Walker's communication skills are top tier. Ashley Kathleen has created a truly amazing group of friends you can't help but fall in love with from page one. If you like fluffy romance without a lot of drama but that still keeps you wanting to turn the pages to soak up more of this fantastic story, put "One Day" on your TBR!!
First I would like to say a big thank you to Ashley for letting me be apart of this ARC Team!

Sonya & Walker have been best friends since they day their paths crossed. When I tell you this book was the cutest from beginning to end I seriously mean it! I loved Sonya’s personality and how Walker was with her. I loved their realization moment!
If you want a light hearted, cute and fun romance this is definitely it! The writing style, relationship growth and everything between (trying not to give much away) was fun.
Big plus was I freakin LOVED this friend group! Bekah, Everett, Dylan and Reid. I hope we get to see more of them. Reid definitely made me laugh since is me in male form 😅
Fav Line: “Getting my morning cardio”

First off thank you to Ashley for the ARC, it is truly appreciated!
I was hooked from the very first sentence honestly. The relationship from between Sonya & Walker in the beginning is so sweet, adorable, and honestly just so cute. Walker would do quite literally anything for Sonya and his other friends as well and same goes for Sonya. I’m a sucker for the friends to lovers trope and Ashley knocked this one out of the park. Seeing their relationship evolve throughout the story was just simply amazing and I couldn’t get enough.
One day is such a lighthearted, fun, cute, a bit spicy of a read. The relationship between Sonya & Walker had me smiling through the whole book && the tension between them was something else! PLUS she calls him good boy!? Yes please!
I truly had the best time reading this book && I can’t wait for the other ones! Be on the lookout because One Day releases August 23rd, 2024!
Tropes: • Friends (with benefits) to lovers • Boy obsessed • Always been you • No third act break-up
I started this book as an in between a buddy read book. I didn’t expect it to completely draw me in and have me so engrossed.
Walker and Sonya are so sweet. I love seeing sunshine girls and their biggest supporter boyfriends. She calls him Cowboy after a first meeting and it’s an adorable piece of their history that we learn. I love a friends to lovers story and Ashley DELIVERED!!
Also the BUTTERFLIES at 37%? Give me all of them. I don’t generally get butterflies at books, but Oh. My. Goodness. Walker and Sonya together? Just butterflies. That’s all.
I loved all of the side characters and I cannot wait to see their books come out - if Ashley so desires to write them. But after that hint in the epilogue, I’m hoping at least one happens 😉😂
And if the outside of the book doesn’t entice you to read it, the inside definitely will! There is NOTHING that should deter anyone from reading it!
This book was adorably cute. It truly was. It had a cute little friends to lovers romance. The friend group was cute. The characters were cute. It was just.....cute.
The plot was good, and I liked how the characters were written, I just felt like it was missing some umph. I don't know how else to describe it. There was no tension. No drama. No third act breakup. It was just a cute little romance that had a happily ever after.
And if that is what youre into, then this will be your jam.
The beginning did feel a little like we walked into the middle of a story, I feel like we needed more background context to the characters friendship. Also the spicy scenes did that thing where it starts very descriptive, and then fades to black, which I am learning I am not a fan of. Pick one or the other. It makes it feel disjointed when its graphic and then bam done and over.
Also the use of cowboy as a nickname was grossly overused. I liked it in the beginning, but it was just said wayyyyyyy too many times by the end.
In the end, it was a cute read. If you want low stakes, no third act breakup, and just straight cute with no drama, then this is your read.
What a delight One Day is! It’s my first book by Ashley and I just loved it!
Why you’ll love it… • Friends with benefits to lovers • Boy obsessed • It’s always been you • No 3rd act break-up • Found family
Why I loved it (4.5 stars):
If you want a lighthearted, cute and fun romance this is definitely it! The writing, world building, relationship journey and everything else was so well done. It was a delightful read that made my heart happy.
I adore a friends-to-lovers trope and Ashley knocked that element out of the park. Seeing Sonya and Walker’s relationship evolve was beautiful — I couldn’t get enough. I also loved all of the secondary characters and I cannot wait to see this series evolve.
Highly recommend this sweet book and thank Ashley for the chance to read this arc!
I’ve been obsessed ever since I stumbled across Ashley’s page. This is a college romance about Sonya and Walker, who decide to take their friendship to the ‘friends with benefits’ stage after Sonya asks Walker if he’s ever thought of going there.
This was such a cute, sunny and spicy read. It was honestly just everything I had imagined it would be. Sonya is such a strong and empowering character and goes after what she wants- not just Walker, but in her education and career. I loved how she took control at times 😘
Walker is just delicious and I do love a cinnamon roll, who surprises you with such delicious and mouthwatering words 🥵 I completely lapped up his sweet and caring personality. He absolutely adores Sonya and I just fell hard.
I cannot wait for more from the author. It’s such a fantastic debut 💕
ARC read this story is about a group of college friends some of them live together they always bet on one of their friends sex life. Until one day casually sex came up and sunny had mentioned nothing is wrong with that and she misses having sex but she doesn’t want to have sex with a stranger so she ends up asking her friend she calls Cowboy he tell’s her no because he likes her and he always has. When they first met she told him she wasn’t looking for no relationship he and her both don’t want to mess up their friendship by changing things up and having sex. But when they finally do have sex it is mind blowing for them both. This story is well written I couldn’t stop reading it once I started I can’t wait to read more from these characters thanks for sharing your story with me.
If you’re looking for a contemporary romance read full of sunshine and love this is for you!!
I was a lucky lady to be chosen to arc read One Day and let me tell you… I fell in love with Sunny and her Cowboy ☺️ It’s such a fun and easy read that made me get lost in the characters and their genuine care for each other right from page one. It had me laughing and sighing at the little things Sonya and Walker did for their found family/friends. I’m so full of love for this friend group, that I’m already speculating who another book could be about 🙊👀 It also has a dicktionary which is kind of the best sooo…
This was such a cute read. While Sonya and Walker's relationship is physical, I liked that they connect emotionally. They both start to question whether they could become something more due to how happy the other person makes them. It was so cute reading their true thoughts on each other. I liked that both characters were depicted as smart and creative in their subjects. I loved the fond family aspect. The interactions with their friends were fun to read. There are certain characters that I can't wait to find out about, so hoping they get a book in the future.
Thank you to Ashley Kathleen for giving me a free copy in return for an honest review.
One of the best reads so far for 2024. It was honestly so cute and my heart was so full reading this. Sunny, Walker, their friends. his mother, everyone truly made me so happy (minus Topher 😒.) BUT! Regardless of him, Sunny and Walker's story felt so raw and open ❤. Knowing how they felt throughout the read felt so refreshing (I'm a sucker for inner thoughts and monologue, haha.) It was as if I was one of their friends, I wanted to just shake them and say, "Go for it, you know deep down it's what you want." I'm glad I couldn't though because one of their friends did it for me. If you're looking for a sweet, college friends with benefits to lovers with immense love and support, I HIGHLY suggest picking this one up 🥰.
This was such a cute read! I enjoyed the big friend group/support system! Realizing that THE ONE has been there the whole time, hits hard for me! I really enjoyed the relationship development! Walker and Sonya are such GREAT people and have amazing personalities!
There is a lot of tropes that I enjoy reading, however one of my favorites tropes is friends to lovers. There is something special about friends who get to know each other before falling in love. This was the case for Sunny & Walker with a little bit of denial added to the mix. The amount of times that I giggled, smiled and laughed while reading this book is endless. As well, I highlighted a ton of my favorites lines in my kindle.
I love Sunny’s friends, however there is one friendship that I love so much and stood out to me the most that is Sunny and Dylan’s friendship!! The whole banter in this book is so wonderful and funny which I loved it so much. If you love a book that contains banter, wholesome friendships, friends ( with benefits to lovers) this book maybe could be the one for you.
Ashley Kathleen is an amazing author, I can’t wait to read more about rest of the series, happy debut!!!
