Great beginners guide to feed and feeders. A lot of the info I had already discovered by trial and error so I wish I would have read this first. My only complaint is that it isn’t more obvious where the bird lives. There’s a tiny map by each bird but I would think I saw one and then look at the map and it was an eastern bird. I went through and just marked the birds that would only be in my area and it made it easier. Good knowledge for a starting bird feeder/watcher.

Beautifully displayed, educational, and practical, this book, a Beginner's Guide to Bird Feeding, by Donald and Lillian Stokes, is a joy to read as well as an excellent reference. The stunning photography shows the beauty and particular markings of each species, male and female, their locations in North America where they are found, their main diet, songs, and fun facts all printed on top grade, glossy paper that bring each page to life. Besides feathered friend information, details on squirrels, squirrel deterrents, and a variety of bird feeders are available for each nature lover's region. On the back pages, resources for bird organizations, books, internet sites, and phone numbers list where one can purchase supplies and bird feed, such as, Mealworms. This handy little book shares professional, sharp pictures of the seeds used for bird feeders along with tips for their maintenance. The book's construction, itself, allows this guide to be an often-used, convenient reference to delight for many years to come.

This is a GREAT book for someone just starting to feed, watch, and identify common back-yard birds. I have referred to it countless times since I received it for Christmas, and I always find the bird I am looking for (or at).

A brief overview of backyard bird feeding. This book covers types of seed and birdfeeders, troubleshooting problems, and a select guide of common birds seen at feeders with what they like to eat, and their nesting habits. It's a solid quick overview.
