The Moretti Chronicles #2

Isle of Seduction

Rate this book
Three simple rules

A temporary union
Separate Bedrooms
NO SEX
But the most important of them don’t fall for your fake spouse. Especially when they have blood on their hands.

GIULIA

Second child of a second son, I never thought I’d be used in a political marriage for the mafia. Yet to save my cousin, I bound myself to a dangerous man.

Andrea Capaldi.

Trapped in a foreign country with a man I hate, who’ll use me like every other man before him, my only shield is the three rules I wrote into our contract.

Falling for my fake husband would be worse than the pit of snakes surrounding us or the threatening war ahead.

ANDREA

Everyone I love ends up getting hurt, so I’ve stopped caring, save for my mother and younger brother. I’ve found solace in my ambitions, but when my sponsor to the West Hill Council elections demands I polish my image, I find myself in need of a wife.

Fate would have Giulia Moretti be the perfect pawn. But she was born a Queen. My Queen.

The sunshine darling of the Moretti family has a thorny side and I find myself craving her defiance, our every interaction a challenge to the barriers of our agreement. On this isle of seduction I created for her, I’m drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

Will it be worth it when I could lose her in an instant?

Author’s note: Isle of Seduction is a dark mafia romance with a HEA and themes that can be triggering to certain readers. The full list of content and trigger warnings can be found at the start of the book. It is part of a series. It is recommended to read Isle of Beauty first.

i received an eARC from the author!

‘isle of seduction’ is the second book in the moretti chronicles. although you could technically read this as a standalone, i would recommend reading ‘isle of beauty’ first. just to understand the world and the characters :)

if you like dark mafia romance that is not too dark than this is the book for you! i really enjoyed it again, just like the first book. giulia and andrea have just such great banter and the spicy scenes were *chef’s kiss* 🤭 i loved the dual pov so much!

at the end it did get a bit more dark and gruesome, one scene in particular i couldn’t read because I’m a wuss. so definitely check out the trigger/content warning before you begin reading.

the only “criticism” i have is that i wish the romance was a bit more slow burn, but i guess that’s just personal preference. can’t wait to read what else C.J. Lucci writes next!

When I say this book is my BABY, I mean it! I had the privilege of reading "Isle of Seduction" while it was being written, and I got to experience the magic unfold in real time. C.J. Lucci sent me parts of the story as she wrote them, and she genuinely listened to my feedback, incorporating my thoughts into the narrative. This process made me fall in love with the story even more.

The plot centers around a marriage of convenience in a sort of mafia world, featuring a male main character who is tough with everyone except for the heroine. The way he softens for her is absolutely swoon-worthy. Andrea, our hero, is an unforgettable character. His journey, his strength for the no touch rule, and the relationship development throughout the book kept me hooked from start to finish.

One scene that will forever live rent-free in my heart and mind is the one with the spoon and Giulia. It showcases Giulia in her true badass form, and it's just one of many moments that make this book stand out.

"Isle of Seduction" is the perfect dark romance for beginners. It has the ideal pacing, an engaging storyline, and characters you'll fall in love with. If you're looking for a compelling and emotional read with perfect smut, this book is a must. C.J. Lucci has created a masterpiece that I am proud to have seen in the making. Sign me up for more!

Another absolute masterpiece by Miss C.J. Lucci😍 I have definitely become a fan of mafia romances because of her!

The story between Andrea and Giulia is passionate, thrilling, beautiful, and last but DEFINITELY NOT least, steamy🥵

Both characters have their own messed up shit in their pasts, and then are suddenly thrust into a marriage convenience to add on top of it. Andrea, son of a “reformed” mob boss working to rebuild his family’s image in the public eye and working to redeem his community behind the scenes, even if it is through unsavory means. Giulia, party girl to the public, mafia intelligence officer and fierce companion to her blended family of mafia empires. Both cocky, arrogant, stubborn, loyal, and driven mad by their spouse yet lustfully craving them at the same time.

Andrea and Giulia try to maneuver through their situationship, political campaigns, backroom dealings, and revenge - all while failing to stop themselves from breaking the rules set forth in their marriage contract. And thank god they do😏🔥

This book had me on edge from the first page and I could not keep from devouring each and every quip, glare, kiss, and threat of murder. I could not recommend it enough, but I can’t put much else in a review without giving everything away!! You’ll just have to trust me😉

Another amazing book by C.J. Lucci. Isle of Seduction is book two in The Moretti Chronicles and while each is a standalone, they are interconnected. So I highly recommend reading them in order.

This one is a marriage of convenience between Andrea and Guilia. Both have bred in the Mafia world but Andrea is trying to make his appearance seem “cleaner” by having a wife and seeming like a family man while he runs for a political seat. Guilia gets something out of this arrangement from the get go but that’s a spoiler from the first book so you’ll just have to read both.

Guilia is plus sized which I LOVED and makes Andrea WORK for it because as we all know a marriage or convenience always leads to pining for one another. I would definitely consider this a he falls fast and enemies to lovers but it’s one sided?

I found Andrea the most delicious MMC, he’s strong, determined and willing to do anything for Guilia. I especially loved seeing his relationship with his brother Nico and his Mom. We all love a man who loves his Mom don’t we?

The smut was 🔥, the story was compelling and gotta say I didn’t expect the bad guy to be who they were at all. I think this would be the perfect book for someone trying to get into mafia romances, and dark romances. The story and romance were perfectly balanced.

Can’t wait for book three Justine!!

I’m officially addicted to this series, I’m gobbling it up like Guilia devouring Andrea’s homecooked meals. Also reading the eyeball scene to friends led to 3 of these faces: 😱

this book had everything to be perfect, and it almost was, except if it weren’t for this plot hole that frustrated me to no end. i mean, the writing was more mature and nuanced that the previous book, the characters had organic chemistry and tension between them, the flow was well paced and balanced between romance and action, even the side characters were jumping off the page and gripping my attention with their potential. also, I really appreciated the way queerness was so normalized, how all identities and representations sprinkled out during the story were neither the rooted in trauma/presented an issue to anyone nor made into a big spectacle, it just so happened that people were queer. but then there was this one detail i just couldn’t get past, it truly made no sense whatsoever, at least not to me. and that was the setting up for the “seemingly” plot twist, which in my opinion wasn’t even one because the writing was on the wall, the call was coming from inside the house; it was all there from the start, it wasn’t just little hidden clues or a red herring. i don’t know if it was a creative decision to go in that direction that i missed the point of, or if i’m just too particular (read: trust issues), but i truly can’t grasp how it escaped through the cracks, especially consider who this fmc is and what she stands for/represents – it felt so out of character for her that it wasn’t conceivable to me.

* i was sent an arc by the author in exchange for a honest review

Andrea Capaldi is working to improve his family’s public image needs a wife. Giulia Moretti seems like the perfect match. If only it were that simple…

I loved Giulia and Andrea together! They were both stubborn and would challenge each other. I loved seeing them try and have this great public image while behind the curtain is a completely different story. I love it when characters set rules for themselves and tension builds until they just have to give in.

I love a strong FMC and Giulia did not disappoint! She was smart and a total badass. Andrea had closed his heart off and I liked how he was really sweet and soft with her…but no one else. He was surprisingly swoon worthy!

I liked the action and the politics and the scheming - it really kept this story moving. There are some great side characters too!

She did it again! This was such a great book! Ugh the twist, which I had a feeling it was, the love story, the betrayal. Ugh it was so good! Honestly I loved how this story started right where the first book was close to ending. So it flowed so nicely and actually followed the storyline so much more.

Did I see that twist coming? Kinda had a feeling but didn't fully know. Did I expect to cry for certain characters? I sure did! I can't believe it when I read that chapter! But ugh still nothing on that one character I've been looking for since book one!! Honestly I hope she makes a three book about them so I can finally know what happens!! I'll keep my eyes open if she does! But read this book series you guys!

The first book I liked a lot and this second book does not dissapoint.
Lucci has a love for strong female leads and I am here for it.
The men do not dissapoint either.

This is an arranged marriage / marriage pf convenienc and for all the wrong reasons. You are just waiting for it to fail, but with a growing obsession on his side that just isn't going to happen.
She has (totally understandable) trust issues and a need to be herself, which he gives her the space to do.

Watching/reading these 2 grow closer was just so much fun!
And enjoying th darker side of their crimina lives was just extra.

Lucci does not shy away from charachters having mental issues and that they seek help in resolving those and I love that!

I love this couple so much. Giulia is an absolute baddie , she's smart ,has built a network of connections and favours owed, and she knows how to get what she wants..... but so does Andrea ,and what he wants most is her. 🥰

After holding his assistance above Guilia's head in order to get her to agree to be his fake wife to help his image ,he quickly realises what an absolute dream she is and it doesn't take him long to decided that their fake marriage needs to be real.
Now, he just needs to convince her of the same.

Andrea is a swoony Mf , C.J Lucci sure knows how to write a man to can woo his woman.

No toxic men here. Yes, they may be a little ....insistent 😉 but you won't find them doing anything that would upset their lady loves.

This was another great addition to the series , and I can't wait for more . I'm especially looking forward to Nicco's?? If we get one. And I'm also super intrigued by Shelly. I hope we get more of her.

I was determined to hate every step of this ridiculous process of settling in Andrea’s life, but spending two-hundred thousands pounds with my new husband’s credit card is something I want to do again very very soon.

Fucking hell. I swipe a hand over my face. Our arrangement needs to remain purely professional and I intend to keep it that way, but the thick thighs look smooth. I have half a mind to drop to my knees and beg her to smother me with them.

“Underestimate me again, husband, and I’ll stab you with my fork. Watch and learn.”

She presses her legs together, trapping my hand in between her legs. I lean over to whisper in her ear. “You realise that’s exactly where I want to be, right?”

Fuck, she’s vicious. My heart rate picks up before my blood moves south at the retribution she promises. She’s magnificent, a goddess of vengeance all dressed in velvet, wearing my jewels around her throat. I can’t wait until she wears nothing but my ring on her finger and my cum on her face.

“And who the fuck are you?” Irina asks with disdain, looking me up and down like I’m below her. I smile sweetly. “Your worst nightmare if you don’t get your hands off my husband.”

“I should have gone for red,” he says while handing me the flower once again. My heart skips a beat at his display, all for me. He leans his lips to my ear and whispers against my skin, “I won’t make that mistake again, but let me be clear, guerrieritta. We are not friends. Now, I’ve spilled my blood for you and nothing has ever felt more right in this fucked up world.”

This book was a good read! I really like books that SHOW you the characters falling for each other. There is that in spades in this book. We see how each character are their own person and how they are able to mesh with each other. I really loved getting to know Andrea and Giulia. Family is very important to them both and again that is shown rather than just told to us. I liked that Giulia was force to be reckoned on her own and being with Andrea just enhanced what was already there within both of them. The banter between the two of them was also very funny to see. They were both getting on each others nerves! I was laughing at some of their interactions with each other. The mystery that developes later on was also interesting! There was multiple things going on and it was hard to seperate them from each other (for the characters). I didn't even guess that things were going to play out how they did! It's so rare that there are instances that things are not super predicatable so this was a nice change from how things normally are! I think this book was done amazingly well. I know this is a book 2 but I want to read the first one which I believe will be Pierce and Lana! This series is definitely going to be one that I look out for. There is a confirmation of at least 2 more books in this series!

The spice in this book was pretty hot as well. I like that it meant something when they finally got together. It made the spice that much better once it did come. I would definitely give this a 3 out of 5. I did want a little bit more. Not like there was missing scenes, I just wanted more mmmphhh. It was still hot. Andrea has a dirty mouth on him! Overall I give this book a 4 out of 5! I really enjoyed the story and these characters really seem to be made for each other. I am invested in the series and I want to read on and read the first one. My only gripe with this book was there was some scenes that weren't necessary. Like I know why they were added but there wasn't enough progression to the story to make it matter. So it just made it feel like padding to the story that was already pretty good. It allowed for there to be some lulls in the story that might make you want to skip through certain parts. It only took away minimally from my overall enjoyment of the story. I would recommend this to anyone who likes mafia stories with good banter and strong FMCs. Get this book now!

I have been eagerly anticipating the story of Giulia Moretti and Andrea Capaldi since January.

I have to say, the chemistry between the MMC (Andrea) and FMC (Giulia) was amazing. I love seeing Ds relationship; it was well-researched and added to the book. I also love seeing characters talk about safe words, tap-outs, and subspaces. I initially expected a slow-burn romance between Andrea and Giulia, which started a bit late, but when it did ignite, the chemistry between them was off the charts! Andrea's loving words melted my heart each time I read them (even the naughty ones!).

I admit I had expected to dislike Andrea because of his behavior in the first book, "The Isle of Beauty," where he was pushy and pressured for a marriage. At the beginning of this book, he came across as a bit creepy, but somehow he changed (or maybe my perception of him changed) and became a much more likeable character - a good husband and a good roommate. The steamy scenes were sizzling hot! 🔥🔥🔥

I really admire Andrea's dedication to the relationship, even if it means his political career might take a hit. I especially appreciate his conversation with Guilia's father, his communication with her about it, and his comment to her about her father.

I love how CJ Lucci creates her female fictional characters: very strong, badass, independent, and extremely confident. Both Giulia and Lana are refreshing to read about.

The plot twist! I was constantly trying to guess who that person was and what would happen, and I was totally shocked. And the events that happened during and afterward. AAAA (this is me going crazy)

Guilia and Nico's new siblingship 😍 And the importance of family ties throughout the book (melted)

Loved their love story, the plot, and the steamy scenes in the book.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Isle of Seduction attempts to weave a tale of dark mafia romance, but unfortunately, it often feels like it's trying to juggle too many tropes without fully committing to any. The premise—a marriage of convenience between a plus-size heroine and a brooding mafia figure—is promising. However, the execution leaves much to be desired.

The characters, while introduced with depth, sometimes fall into predictable patterns. Giulia's strength and vulnerability are evident, but her decisions occasionally lack consistency. Andrea's mysterious demeanor is intriguing, yet his development feels rushed, as though his backstory was assembled using leftover pieces from a dozen other brooding romance leads.

The narrative is laden with intense emotions and dramatic turns, which, while engaging at times, can border on melodrama. The prose is rich, perhaps too rich, with descriptions that, instead of painting a vivid picture, often bury the actual plot under a mountain of metaphors and longing gazes.

And then there's the twist. Ah, the twist. Without spoiling it outright, let’s just say: if you've ever read any romance novel—or even glanced at the back of a soap opera DVD—you'll see it coming somewhere around chapter four. The book treats it like a grand revelation, but it lands with all the surprise of a sunrise. When the big moment finally arrives, it’s less “Oh my God!” and more “Oh. That. Of course.”

In essence, Isle of Seduction has its moments, and it may satisfy readers craving a high-drama, low-surprise getaway. But for anyone hoping for originality or a story that holds up under its own weight, this feels more like a detour than a destination.

OMG! I just got the meaning of the yellow roses and blood on the cover

C.J. Lucci's second book in her mafia series is a triumph! I can't wait for the next installments. In the first book we saw the beginning of this book: Giulia and Pierce seek help from Andrea to rescue Giulia's niece, Lana. Andrea agrees to assist, but only if Giulia becomes his wife. As a mafia princess, Giulia is the perfect partner for Andrea's political ambitions.

Despite agreeing to terms—five years of marriage, separate bedrooms, and no sex—these conditions are quickly discarded. Andrea soon realizes Giulia is someone he wants forever, while Giulia struggles to reopen her heart. Their journey to a HEA is beautifully portrayed, highlighting their deep trust in each other. Andrea, a ruthless mafia man, a DOM who shows a tender side with Giulia, truly wanting to support her rather than just treating her as a trophy wife. The romantic and steamy moments are exceptionally well-written.

"Isle of Seduction" is an ideal dark romance for beginners, with perfect pacing, an engaging storyline, and lovable characters. The book is a compelling and emotional read with perfect smut, a true masterpiece.

I'm really looking forward to (hopefully) Nico's story with Lana's sister (I think) and Julian & Igor HEA.

I had the thrill of reading this book before it's release, and let me tell you - you're in for a treat! If you love mafia romance, C.J Lucci is fast becoming a mafia romance author to watch. I gobbled her debut novel (Isle of Beauty) up like the greedy little mafia wh*re I am, and the follow up is just as good.

Isle of Seduction is the second in the series, but can be read as a standalone. I would recommend reading Isle of Beauty first though - not just to get to know ALL the characters but because it's a great read.

What I loved about Isle of Seduction is the marriage of convenience trope, sprinkled with a he falls first trope, an excellent plot, great character development, to die for dirty talk and of course, the spice.

Giulia is a strong, confident FMC, who has had to overcome a lot of emotional hurt stemming from her family. I love seeing female characters in books portrayed as multifaceted women, with brains and opinions of their own, not being used to make the MMC a hero, and Giulia is exactly that. Not to mention that she is unapologetic about not fitting the mould set by beauty standards to be a certain size. I also love seeing the MMC being a simpering love fool for the heroine, and boy does Andrea fulfil that plus ALL my spicy dirty talking domineering needs.

Well done, Ms Lucci - another one knocked out of the park.

Isle of Seduction is a masterclass in the marriage of convenience trope. As the second installment in the Moretti Chronicles, it follows the fallout of Giulia's decision to enter an arranged marriage to save her cousin. While it works as an interconnected standalone, I highly recommend reading the series in order to get the full experience. As always, check your trigger warnings.
The dynamic between Andrea and Giulia is electric. Andrea is a complex MMC who is trying to go into politics despite his family's dark roots. He views Giulia as a tool for his public image at first, but that quickly shifts into a deep, protective obsession. Giulia is a refreshing FMC. She is curvy, brilliant, and has a network of favors that makes her a force to be reckoned with.
The plot keeps you on your toes with mysterious murders and a shady political rival. Watching Andrea go from a cold strategist to a swoon worthy partner who is only soft for his wife was beautiful. Their stubbornness leads to incredible chemistry, especially when they are forced to maintain a facade for the cameras. It is a heartfelt, high stakes romance that I cannot recommend enough.

This had everything I love in a compelling mafia story. This is the second book in C.J. Lucci's Moretti Chronicles and we know at the end of Isle of Beauty (book 1) that our gorgeous FMC Giulia agrees to marry our MMC, Andrea. The tension in book 1 immediately set this up to be a classicly fun enemies-to-lovers marriage of convenience story.

Andrea wants to climb the political power structure and with his family's mafia background, needs a wife for his image. Giulia did it to save her bestie. Add in a political rival who is shady, some mysterious murders that Andrea is being framed for, and the pressure to "sell" their marriage. Giulia puts some rules in place that we KNOW Andrea is not going to follow. The man does the funniest things to let her know he's always watching out for her (*cough cough* watching her sleep).

The plot, pacing and characters in this were all well done and the spice was spot on. Andrea literally had me SWEATING reading this in an airplane, putting my Kindle in dark mode so no one could see what I was reading. LOL I ate this up and can't wait for the next one!

Tropes/Elements:
- Marriage of convenience
- Forced proximity
- Enemies-to-lovers
- Touch her and die
- Bi and plus-size FMC
- Possessive MMC
- Dirty talk, spanking, D/s dynamics and hot AF belt scene

Note: Thanks to the C.J. Lucci for providing an eARC. The decision to read/review was my own and represents my honest opinion.

Ahhh where do I start?! I devoured book one and had been waiting for this story. It did not disappoint! Are there some red flags? Sure but red flag is my favorite color right next to morally gray. And this book has both!

Andrea and Giulia. *swoon* are they perfect? Absolutely not. But they are perfect for each other. The love is apparent. Andrea watches Giulia sleep and it doesn’t give you the creepy Edward Cullen vibes—like how?!

I couldn’t put this book down, until one part where I had to take a breath and not message Miss Lucci with my feelings but I can’t say why without spoilers. 🫣Just trust me when I say that this is a must read!

I will definitely be reading anything C.J. Lucci writes. Also hoping for more on Nico 😍

It’s so satisfying to see an author improve on their previous works. Lucci, this time around improved on her writing and characterisation. The plot “twist” wasn’t really a twist for me. It was all too clear where this entire story was heading. But I loved Andrea and Giulia as our main characters and I loved how they fell head over heels for each other. They both dealt with believable “obstacles” in this romance and I loved the portrayal of them.

This is a dark mafia romance and not for the faint of heart: if body horror or stuff with torture (mainly tongues and eyeballs) isn’t your thing, I’d avoid this one. But I had a great time and cannot wait to dive into the next one. Please let the next one be Nico’s story!

Thanks to the author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I gave it a 3.5 but rounding up to 4.

I like who the books interconnect, there’s an overarching plot while each couple also has their own story line.

This one was a bit more cliche, I found the plot more predictable but when reading romances, it’s more about the main characters than about the plot. And I was entertained!

I liked how Lucci explained Guilia being a sub while keeping her agency and fierceness, but simultaneously being vulnerable. It was nice to see her being able to encompass all these qualities in what felt a realistic way.

If you’re looking for mafia romance, so far the first two books in the trilogy have been really good - but as always check out content warnings. I have found Lucci now has a pattern of sharing the hard hitting stuff around the 70% mark.

Isle of Seduction is book 2 of The Moretti Chronicles, I haven't read book 1 and didn't have any trouble following along. It can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

I enjoyed the banter between both MC. It's not a slow burn but the FMC does try to resist the mutual attraction for the first half of the book. It was easy to read, some parts were darker and very descriptive in the torturing, I didn't mind it but maybe check out the TW if you're easily disturbed. Great spice and I really enjoyed the storyline.

A decent book.
Would be more stars if it wasn’t for the smut ( okay i know i chose this book knowing that there would be smut but i didn’t think that it would be that much. i always am like this. sorry)
the plot was really good though.
Also , i read this book without even reading the first part and I’m so glad to say that you can read this as a standalone. I am also saying that I WILL be reading Nico’s story on april 25th.
Back to the main point:the plot. it was like so interesting. the start was boring sue me but then it got SO GOOD!!! The whole mystery vibe really kept this shit going. loved it.

I loved this book and I ate it up in one sitting 🔥🔥

I loved how Giulia and Andrea are completely honest with each other and actually equal partners.
There was no other woman drama, there was no stupid breakup. Someone threatened Guilia and she told her man's immediately. They did things together.

She's a strong woman and that never changed during the duration of the book and I appreciate that. And she would let Andrea actually do things for (always after a little fight) but it was amazing.

I loved it. It was a breathe of fresh air from most of the books I've been reading aaaaanddd this book took me out of a slump🥰🥰

Great Read!

I really enjoyed this book a lot. I’m a sucker for when the MMC falls first and hard and Andrea did not disappoint. No matter what Giulia did, Andrea kept falling for her more and more. There was such good chemistry between these two and the tension! CJ really got me with the plot twist towards the end. This didn’t really read as your typical mafia romance but I loved how the events of this book overlapped with the events of book one. I would be game for being the black cat to Andrea’s golden retriever energy.

I thought I loved Isle of Beauty but this series is getting better by each book. I loved this one more than Lana and Pierce's story.
Guilia and Andrea are love at first sight but don't action on it, they enter into an arranged marriage and tension become an all time high! ooohhhh, their dynamic is explosive, they're both stubborn but I always love a "he falls first".
This was thrilling, we get an insight into the missing character (this breaks me not being able to find him).
but I loved reading this and excited for more upcoming in the series.
