William Seitz (June 14, 1914 – October 26, 1974) was an American art curator associated most closely with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
First 46 pages without color - what? Impressionism without color to start the book? This is my reason to give 4 stars. I wish all the small prints in this section were color too. Large Color plates start on page 48 - text on left, print on right. 127 total pages, so 80 pages (40 prints) of lots of descriptive text next to a beautiful color print on glossy paper. Excellent quality.
Monet's quest to do the impossible and his shifting from one canvas to another in relation to the light are inspiring, as well as his strict adherence to "no theory," although clearly he had SOME theory. This was a long, redundant read, but not uninteresting.
