Where would an outlaw hide a small blue gem?

The Campground Kids receive an envelope containing secret information about a lost artifact called a "Navigem." The kids quickly piece together that this is more than just a favor; it is a mission from their Uncle Elliot.

Finding the legendary Navigem will be no small task, as it has been missing for decades. Rumor has it that an outlaw hid it in South America; however, Uncle Elliot's clues seem to point toward Arches National Park. The kids must get up to speed with their secretive uncle and find the Navigem before others catch on.

Will the kids have what it takes to piece together the clues? Can they figure out enough about the missing Navigem before it's too late? Join The Campground Kids as they explore Arches National Park.

The author lost me, as an adult reader who has been to Arches National Park on page 19 when she states that the children got into the rental vehicle for the "11 mile" trip to the park. There is no airport that is only 11 miles from Arches. There is no major airport within even 100 miles of the park. This was a detail that was completely unnecessary. If you can't put an accurate distance, omit the detail.

I also thought it odd when they say "It is too late in the day to see Delicate Arch" but then are able to go to the Visitors' Center from the campground. Devil's Garden/campground is a nice drive from the Visitor Center, which is right by the entrance. The Visitors Center doesn't stay open that late, so if it was too late for Delicate Arch, it was likely too late for the Visitors Center. Seeing Delicate Arch at sunset is a thing (we intentionally went to get there just before sunset), so I feel the author isn't that familiar with Arches National Park.

With that out of the way, the book attempted to have a suspenseful plot, but as my children who read the book as well pointed out "the ending was abrupt.". Also, these books are most enjoyed by my 9 yr old. But the author keeps trying to put "middle school romance into the book" (in this case that Isaiah wants to keep teling the girl about his secret mission) because he is attracted to her. I feel like this plot point is out of place given the age of the children reading the book. The moral of "forgiveness is a choice" is a good moral, I just think the characters could be brought to that moral differently.

The book can be read in about an hour, so it is a quick read.
