Stanley is a cat who's scared of anything and everything, so a dark house full of strange noises is the last place he wants to be. But Stanley must face the fears to save the day.
Russell Punter was born in Bedfordshire, England. From an early age he enjoyed writing and illustrating his own stories. He trained as a graphic designer at art college in West Sussex before entering the world of publishing. He has written over one hundred books for children of all ages, ranging from original stories to adaptations of classic novels.
Brilliantly illustrated by ?Gustavo Mazali, Scaredy Cat, whose name was Stanley, was scared of everything.
Whatever he did, whoever he met and wherever he went he was scared. His friends Tabby and Snowy tried to convince him that his fears were unfounded but it made no difference.
And when they entered an unknown house whose door was open he was frightened out of his wits at every move. Then when a curtain moved and fell on him that was almost the end but it turned out quite differently and Scardey Cat was a hero, praised to the high heavens by the house owner ... and after that episode, Scardey Cat was no longer scared. He walked tall around town thereafter!
Stanley was a cat that lived in a town, and he was afraid of everything. This has earned him the nickname "Scaredy Cat." While Stanley was with Tabby and Snowy, they see a mouse go into a house. The three then follow the mouse into the house via the cat flap. The three are soon separated and or Stanley is on his own. Every little noise or sound causes him to call either Tabby or Snowy to stop their search and to come and find out what is troubling Stanley. But Stanley may have called them one too many times, as they do not come when he sees a ghoulish figure in the dark. It turns out that it is a burglar, and Stanley has saved the family from being burgled. After that Stanley is not a Scaredy Cat anymore.
Entertaining story about a cat who that is scared of everything, until one day a sudden twist of events turns him into a local hero. The illustrations are good, with interesting angles. The text is rhythmic, with repetitions. Kids (especially preschoolers and kindergarteners) will learn new words.
I sometimes called my son scaredy cat because he often scared by even small sudden noise. Kinda the same like the main cat character in this book. We read this book together and laughed together because my son could relate with this cat. Yet, the end of the book made it even good because I told my son to be like the cat, be brave even though you scared.
Bedtime stories are great when the book is good. This was one of those books that had me thinking "this is stupid" the entire time I was reading aloud to the kids.
One of Elizabeth's... she really enjoyed this book, she struggled with the word burglar (I think it is the first time she has come across it though) but she was able to answer simple questions about the story afterwards. A very good book for young readers, Elizabeth picked the number of stars it got though... she is six if you need a reference age x
