LINDA SOLE also writes under the names of Anne Herries, Emma Quincey, Lynn Granville and one as Juliana Linden.

Linda was born in Swindon. Her family moved to Ely in Cambridgeshire when she was nine, and Linda attended the local school but left at fifteen to work as a hairdresser in her father's business. She was married at eighteen and ran her own hairdressing business for some years before moving to Cambridge, although Linda has now moved to somewhere a bit quieter in Cambridgeshire. She started writing in 1976, combining this with helping her husband to run his antique shop.

Writing as Anne Herries, Linda won the 2004 RNA Romance Award and the Betty Neels Trophy. She lives in Cambridgeshire. After many happy years of taking their holidays in Spain she and her husband, now have a second home in Norfolk. Being only a short drive, they can visit for a few days at a time, which suits their busy lifestyle these days. They are only just across the road from the sea, and can see it from their windows. At home and at the sea they enjoy watching the wildlife and have many visitors to their gardens, particularly squirrels. Anne loves watching their antics and spoils both them and her birds shamelessly. She also loves to see the flocks of geese and other birds flying in over the sea during the autumn, to winter in the milder climes of this country. Anne loves to write about the beauty of nature and sometimes puts a little into her books, though they are mostly about love and romance. She writes for her own enjoyment and to give pleasure to her readers.

Since I'm three book reviews behind and since the blurb sets the plot up well enough, I'm going to cheat and quote that:

"Haunted by war, Sir Zander de Bricasse is no longer the idealistic youth who left his sweetheart to join the Crusades. Years have passed and he now fully expects to find Elaine married to another. Instead, he discovers she is in grave danger....

Fleeing from a murderous earl, Lady Elaine is rescued by a mysterious knight--her beloved Zander! She's never forgotten his promise to wed her, but to restore their lost love she must help this brooding, tormented stranger heal the wounds of his troubled past."

So when Elaine was like fourteen, she and Zander swore twu-wuv forever and that she'd wait for him to return from the crusades (where he'd make the big bucks and thus better husband material), and believe it or not her father and then uncle allowed this medieval miss to hang on the shelf waiting for said landless knight.

Any who, there's this evil earl who wants Elaine at any cost and she's forced to flee to her mother's dower lands (now her lands) with only the clothes on her back and a couple of faithful servants. Getting spoilerish, but I don't care, and neither will you. There's a couple of close calls on the way, plus they run into Zander who has returned from the Holy Land badly scarred, but eventually arrive safely at her mother's estate. Despite fleeing for her life with the clothes on her back and despite having lived with her father and then uncle for years, there's silk and velvet dresses aplenty just waiting for the beauteous Elaine to wear, plus lots of "ladies-in-waiting" there to do Elaine's bidding.

There's deadly plots and danger everywhere for our intrepid pair of lovers to solve, but don't you worry dear reader - you've already guessed it all by around page 100 or so. The end.

This is definitely one for the wall-paper category, or as Karla would call it, "Disney medieval". I know it's a Harlequin and all, but come on - this was published in 2013 and it can't be that hard to click a bit and avoid a few of the more blatant anachronisms. Still, the story is just not good. Predictable, boring and sometimes downright silly.

My kindle copy obtained via library loan.

I give two stars only because the twist in the plot. Book was very repetitive repeating the same thing over and over. Felt like there were hidden messages in the book also that I did not like. I didn't feel like I was reading an historical romance. I almost dnf, but instead skipped pages and still knew everything that happened.

So, you know at one point in any woman's life where you feel like you need a Knight in shining armor to come rescue you and you ride off to a beautiful sunset with your Knight, so yeah, I was going through that period and needed something to satisfy my screaming heart for a knight in shining armor, and this book was that... believe me, this book was that. It involved a damsel in distress, an evil Earl and a Knight in Shining armor! (I think I need to stop saying knight in shining armor!)

Well, this is going to be a relatively short review cause this is a relatively short book and I really dont want to spoil the story for you'll!

Elaine was fourteen when she realized her one true love was Zander. Zander on the other hand, was more interested in being a crusader, well this is a Regency Novel, it was set during King Richard the Lionheart's era, so he went to war with the King's Army to conquer Jerusalem. With a heavy heart, Zander, a mere boy, left Elaine behind to serve his King..
