A Veil of Blood and Bravery

Rate this book
War has come to Avarath, and it’s up to Delphine to stop it from tearing apart the realms of faerie and humans alike.

For the first time in millennia, three true high kings of faerie sit on their thrones.

All should be well in in the realms of the fae, but instead, bloodshed has already begun. Deimos, high king of the Afterworld, has stepped out of his realm for the first time to offer Delphine a deal that will seal the future of faerie betray her own kind and end the bloodshed... or watch faerie drown in war.

But there's another option. A dark fae king without a crown whispers promises of unlocking Delphine's true power. A gamble that could save everything—or unleash a terror worse than war itself.

No matter which way Delphine turns, only one thing seems certain.

From the moment Delphine stepped into faerie, she was marked for death. She’s survived sacrifice, fiends, fae, humans, and more—only to once again face her inevitable end.

It seems fate, at last, will have its way—unless Delphine can find a way to defy it.

A Veil of Blood and Bravery is the fifth and final book in The Veiled Realm series, an upper YA/NA fantasy romance series with multiple love interests, enemies-to-lovers, and plenty of spice.

Really hated the FMC in this series. If it wasn't for my OCD, I wouldn't have finished it. Honestly, they should have just sacrificed her on book one.
A lot of this series was a whole bunch of words that said either nothing or what a few words could have conveyed. There was no reason for this story to be five books.

Worst. "HEA". Ever. In the like 3k books I've read, I hate this ending the most.

This series would have slayed as a trilogy, unfortunately it became quite repetitive and stuttered from scene to scene with quite alot of mistakes throughout. By the end I was glad to be finished and know what happens. With editing and proof reading this could be a kick ass trilogy.

3.5 ⭐️

I finally did it. I was too stubborn not to find out how it ended. Once again, the plot direction surprised me often.

But where was the tension? The love? The character development built over the last four books that should have had me hooting and hollering? I felt oddly numb reading this ending.

Plot: 5/5

Overall: I don’t recommend the series. I didn’t hate it, and at times I genuinely got into it, but I can’t endorse something that fell so far short of its potential.

While reading this series, I found myself often asking if I should keep reading. I did complete the series, in part because at a foundational level the story line is interesting but there were several points of frustration for me. First, many of the love interest characters felt underdeveloped—their motivations are stated in a conclusively manner without truly digging into what guides them to those motivators. Second, the MC constantly forgives her love interests, because she loves them. In the case of Nyx, this was particularly difficult to accept as the MC talks about these huge betrayals and then just throws her hands up in a “but I love him” conclusion. Third, many plot lines of interest throughout the series never got full closure. Why do we loose the Catsuga and never fully come back to them? What happened to her gifts such as the compass, jewels, and cloak? What of her baby brother when she met her step mother again in the human world? Fourth, inconsistencies and underdeveloped sub plots and story lines. Fifth and finally, the author has the MC go through some pretty verbose and overly dragged out thought line that span pages and don’t really add anything beyond trying to emphasize how much she loves them or how important something is. Given the other issues noted above, this ultimately felt like wasted space on the page.

Again, interesting plot line overall but an underwhelming series. I won’t be going back for more if off shoots come out.

This book was good overall. I’ve enjoyed the series and though, there has been an abundance of errors the series has been enjoyable. I enjoyed how this story has ended and was quite teary. Though it felt rushed and some areas of the book lacking it was enjoyable to read ❤️
My biggest bug for this book was the lack of world building and character design. At times I was completely lost trying to picture the characters and the places they were. And normally I’m so soaked into a book I forget I’m even reading as I’m alive in my head with the story and characters. There needed to be a bit more put into it. I just couldn’t picture the characters and the incredible world they had been made into.
Overall I’ve enjoyed the series and have waited patiently for final book 📕

I finished this series, but im not pleased that I did. There were so many good cliffhangers in the other books that i was like okay ill keep pushing through. And then I get to this last book in the series. The ending, I think, hurt the most and not in a good, im sad this series is over, way. I feel like the characters didn't have enough build-up. There was a lot of skipping around. It's advertised all over insta as a spicy RH, but all around, the whole series just lacked. Let's not forget the misspelled words or the fact that some different character names were mentioned when speaking of another. Wish I had DNFd, but oh well.

Can't wait for more

I was obsessed with this series! I seriously hope the author puts out more. Reminded me a little bit of ACOTAR, but at the end of the day this series is it's own standalone. Couldn't be more than impressed with the writing. Analeigh does a wonderful job capturing the essence of her characters. Her changes in POV seamlessly blend together. I cannot wait to read more.

I was really excited to read this, it got me out of my reading slump. But then I was so sad. I really liked this series, however this book for the first three quarters felt like it was dragging and then the last quarter felt so rushed and I felt like so much more of Delphines character, relationships, and powers could have been explored. It was a bummer for something I was highly looking forward too.

So much introspection from the main character as well as a really messy ending (the transition to the final scene/s was so abrupt and not well signposted!) that just left me frustrated with the journey overall.

The overall plot of these books has a lot of potential, and the world is interesting. I'm just not sure it was well executed here.

The spicy scenes seem to be more of an afterthought, not really necessary for the story IMO. I got into the series hoping it was more of a "group dynamic" spice-wise, but it's all one on one relationships. Fantasy world was pretty imaginative but it felt a little LOTR-esque. I pretty much imagined all the fae guys being buffed up versions of Legolas.

The whole concept and magic structure was well thought out. However, each book got poorer and poorer as far as editing. I would love to see these rewritten and compiled into one big book. I loved the characters but in some ways the story was drawn out too long and in others it was rushed. It would be nice for the princes to have more time spent on their pov.

Thanks for trying Analeigh Ford. This series was a struggle for me from book 1, but I decided I couldn’t continue long enough to get through the last book. It was starting to seem like a wacked out LSD dream and hard to follow.

Not bad but not great

This was harder for me to read. I made it through the series but it was choppy and sometimes difficult to follow. The idea is really cool, and some of the characters are excellent.

A suitable ending

The ending fit the series so well. I have definitely found an author that I will be reading more of. Although the ending wraps everything up, it still leaves enough open to return to that world and I truly hope we do.

I did read the whole series. So I’m changing all my stars to two stars.. I think the ideas she had were so cool, but the pacing was off, typos were bad, and I found myself skipping so much because it was repetitive:/ loved the power Delphine had though. Very cool. Lots of holes in it though :/

Did not like the FMC. She was too flipfloppy. It was like she couldn't make up her kind on what she wanted or needed to do. I kept expecting it to get better, and it just didn't. Not saying you shouldn't try it if it's your thing, but it definitely wasn't mine.

Almost good

I kept reading this series hoping the next book would be better, however truthfully it just never flourished. This story could’ve been condensed to 2 books max. It has potential but just missed the mark for me.

I skimmed my way thru the last half of this book, knowing the only thing that would save it would be a huge or-gee at the end. Surprise, didn’t happen.
I heard the author said she wanted a spicier ACOTAR. This did not get even close to the level of ANY OF THE BOOKS. Why does the spiciest scene happen in the 2nd book? Why does the last two MMF’s get like a page each? Tf analeigh ford?! I was so invested the first 3 books, it very very quickly turned disappointing.

This fell flat for me. The training ARC skipped over. The ongoing monologue was just too much. Delphie is a strong FMC, but I wanted to see more depth

A good series

This series has highs and lows, and it has some suspence. It is a great story if you believe in fae.

Glad to see that the majority of the editing issues from the previous book didn’t carry on to this one. I enjoyed this book.

Giving the series an overall 3stars. This was by far the best book. Could have been done in 3 books instead of 5.

Honestly wanted to DNF this series halfway through the first book but i wanted to give it a chance and push through….totally not worth it. More screwin than any plot and an ACOTAR rip off at best…

Finally finished this series. Good lord that last one was a tough read.
A lot of it was very confusing. Things happened too fast, and then other things were dragged out.
But I did it, yay me.

THE FINAL BOOK. Somehow Delphine is still alive and these 5 men are still interested in her. I really wish we could have learned more about the shadow king and what Delphine went through in her 6 months which was actually like a day. Again lots of randomness that I wish was explained more. So now we have the King of Avarath and the King of basically hell to deal with. It really felt like so many lines of thought were just not finished. I really wanted to love this series, and I love bits and pieces, but overall it feels like a draft rather than a finished product.
