I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist--words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I'm also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle--it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!

Five teen heroes.
One with magical abilities. One warrior trainee. One smart thief. One who hears the voices of the dead with the danger of madness ever lurking. One who undertakes a secretive mission of his own.

Book 2 is a lot more political and forces our motley cast to work together to uncover plots and protect

This at times gave me young Lies of Locke Lamora vibes!

This is the type of book I would whole-heartedly recommend to my brothers (aged 15 and 16).
It’s fast-paced, has fantastic battle scenes, light world-building with caste systems and city politics vying for power, a young cast, and extremely light romance (very juvenile).

I have to commend the narrator of the audiobook - the different accents for the tribes, the gendered differences and inflections, thoroughly absorbing!

5 stars isn't enough to explain how much I loved this book!!

If you haven't started this series yet . . . you need to. It is absolutely phenomenal. From the characters, the world building, its heart-stopping action, to its masterfully written prose . . . it has everything an epic fantasy should have. What's more? This has probably the longest, most action-packed climaxes I've ever seen!!

Andy has seriously upped his game with this one! Ughhh....I cannot even explain how much I loved it!!! Such an edge-of-your-seat, heart pounding adventure, I just couldn't stop!

Evren, Aisha, and Issa are probably my favorites, though it gets harder and harder to pick. Each character has such a unique background they could each have a book of their own.

Or their own movie . . . because I could seriously see Marvel-like movies coming out of this!! Yes it's at THAT level of awesomeness!!

So watch out, because his game-stopping talent and his brilliant stories are going to rocket him to epic greatness!

I cannot emphasise enough how much I am enjoying this series which is so full of continuous action and heart stopping moments. Briana, the daughter of Suroth, Arch Guardian of the Council has been killed, and the Nacroseti have replaced him immediately, throwing Briana out on the street and stripping her of all she owned including her status in a society where status was everything. Kodyn and Aisha stick by their promise to protect her and leave with her but as they are joined by Evren and Hailen tension rises between our group for lack of trust between one another and the egos of men. They are set up in a small house, bare of all comforts and in a shabby area and Briana is shocked to find out that they had taken all of her father's things including his personal journal which contained all his research about the Serenii. However Hailen saves the god's forsaken day, as he brought hope and courage to Briana, giving their lives purpose once again and binding our group of heroes into a solid team. Our group of heroes are relentlessly attacked and they fear for Briana's life all the time, but the others seem to have a knack for being at the wrong place in the right time as they too track the Ybrazhe, the gatherers, nacroseti and the syndicate who suddenly all seem to be working together to bring chaos into Shalandra, the city of the dead. The words painted on the walls pose a riddle they had yet to solve, child of gold, child of spirit, seems the groups were intent on unleashing evil on to their world and would stop at nothing to reach their aim. However with a group of courageous and staunch heroes such as ours, who never gave up maybe there was a chance! I really love all the heroic characters in the series even though sometimes Briana drives me crazy when she acts so weak in the face of danger, but Issa is my favourite as she never backs down from any challenge posed to her and she has been pushed to her limits by that bastard Tannard. I just cannot stop reading, so onward to book 3!

SO. GOOD. I COULDNT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. THE ACTION IS AMAZING. I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS. THE DETAIL AND EVERYTHING IS PERFECT!
(also, if this is how violent and graphic his YA books are, i wonder how much more his ADULT ones are…)

I loved this installment of the Heirs of Destiny series!
Mr. Peloquin's style is one of the best and most coherent I have found. I highly recommend it to all readers who like adventure, magic and action, with a good touch of mystery. Mr. Peloquin series are among the few that I read very slowly to enjoy them for longer!

Well book two in this new series, and just as good as the first. Plenty of action and intrigue to keep you engrossed all the way through. Cannot wait for book three. If you liked the first one you’ll love this. Highly recommended.

A Worthy Follow Up to Book One

This novel by Andy Peloquin acts as a perfect follow on to where Trial of Stone left off, revealing more about the characters and how their interactions with the world in book one have taken effect for this second instalment.

The city of Shalandra is as complex as ever but yet you know where everything is but not where everyone is. It is mightily impressive how Peloquin has made a huge seemingly endless world full of adventure within just a single city yet everywhere is so familiar and vividly imprinted into your mind but yet always revealing something new every step of the way.

As part of an interconnected world, reading some of Andy's previous series could give you a greater insight into the protagonists that populate the Heirs of Destiny story. It will definitely be worth taking a look at those whilst you wait for each new instalment to drop.

There was a lot going on and I thoroughly loved the political intrigue of this in the almost court like manner. kids finally all getting together was awesome and I LOVED the hesitancy of each other! While you don't NEED to read Darkblade 1-5 and Queen of Thieves 1-3 first....You SHOULD just so you can understand what the heck is going on for Heirs. I always love exploring a caste like system in fantasy becuase of the politics involved. Hailen coming into his own a little more is wonderful. Kodyn away from the Night Guild is kind of a whoa moment because he is definitely coming out of the shadow of his badass mom which is fabulous. I still feel like Hailen is the main character across the entire Andyverse.

This might just be the best book yet in this wonderful series. In Crucible of Fortune, we see laid bare the web of political and criminal intrigue that enfolds the City of the Dead. Twist upon twist emerges, as several intriguing subplots and engaging, well-developed characters add richness and depth to the story. I have followed Peloquin's work ever since he published his first novel, and I truly think he has earned his Master's badge with this one.

Riot of a read

How does a series of books never disappoint and find different ways to keep you hooked using all the characters we know and love? Spine tingling action suspense and thrill. Espionage at its finest romance as an undertone personal struggles and joys fill all of these books and I can't put them down. Cannot praise enough.

This was a great book. Briana reminds me of a young Ilanna, without all of the experience in pain and suffering, but she gets her fair share early on. This is a page turner that will run your emotions through the gambit.

In this series' second book, all the main characters get together, and Briana and Hailen become more central to the plot. The first book introduced the City and the character's individual missions. In this one, we are finally moving forward. All of their goals align. They need to unravel the schemes their foes are plotting. They realize that their enemy is bigger and more dangerous than they initially imagined. Now more of them are working together. They won their first battle, but there's a war ahead.

Issa remains my favorite, but Aisha's powers were really cool.

Really enjoyed Book 1 in the Heirs of Destiny series. It gave the reader the opportunity to get to know the characters who were on the way to Shalandra or already there. In Book 2 the reader gets to find out how these characters come together to fight for a city that’s on the way to destruction unless they can stop it. The author does an excellent job with his descriptions of the city, the Shalandran people and way of life and the fight scenes. This is definitely a ‘sit on the edge of your seat’ book. Looking forward to Book 3 in the series.

Fabulous story. Several threads with fascinating characters that you can't help but grow to care about - even if, in some cases, only to see how they get what they deserve. I can't wait for the next one but luckily it isn't a long wait.
