MAX PARROTT is a cozy mystery author who lives with his beloved golden retriever... who just so happens to be named Luffy. Even though Luffy doesn't help Max solve crimes, he does help him stay amused.
The inseparable duo often enjoy big long walks down the canal where Max reminisces about Luffy's one shot at fame - a close second in Musical Chairs for dogs one wintry Christmas Eve.

Max Parrott has created a wonderful mystery series with great characters and a variety of situations. Each story is filled with plenty of twists, turns, and red herrings to keep the reader engaged clear to the end and looking for more.
Wonderful Cozy Mysteries that are gentle and caring! These books in this series is a really good read to take you away from everything for awhile, but in a kind way. They are gentle enough for some of the younger readers, middle readers, and folks like me who still just love to read a great book and series! They are not boring by any imagination, but rather very busy from the beginning to the ending of each book. Book 1: Paws in the Action~ This was a great mystery good enough for people of any age! I loved the first fact, that Jaz could talk to and hear Luffy! I thought that added to the story as a whole. The mystery was awesome! I think those that grew up loving Nancy Drew books will love this mystery, and how it unfolded, (as I did). Reading how the investigation changed what people thought of HOW Jack died was interesting... especially how Jaz's input, and how people looked at her before and after the investigation!
Book 2: A Timely Murder~ Great Murder Mystery! What is not to love about this book, and this series? There is such a comforting feel of the characters... Jaz (Jasmine) and Luffy feel like part of the family (albeit I wish I could hear my pets talking english in my head too)! They are now at college, trying to just be normal folks, and then, oh no, another vision which means probably another death. Sure enough, one of the nicest guys in school ends up dead, looking like a suicide! Sure enough, the police want Jaz to help out, since she is so seasoned at solving murders.
Book 3: Bookmarked for Death~ This is a wonderful book! Some continuations of stories get lame and boring... not this one! Jaz and Luffy are back home for holiday from college, time for some R&R... Well, it doesn't happen that way. Jaz has another vision, which usually means there will be another murder.. or is it? This book has growth with the characters, there is hometown battles between people that can make a person wonder if a person is really that way, or if you just feel that way because of previous issues with that person. People within a small town usually know of everyone even if they don't know the person, or do they? There is even a real feel of going home and finding another pet in the house, that Mom & Dad did not tell you about, AND they have her previous competition 'training' her! This book in the series would be good as a standalone, but is SO much better when read in line with the previous.
Thank you Max Parrott for such Wonderful Stories to just Die Into... I mean Dive Into!
This is a delightful series. Jaz is a young lady who not only experiences visions when a murder has occurred or is about to occur, she also has a telepathic link to Luffy, the smartest dog around. Book 1 - A local man is dead & the police think it was suicide. Convinced it wasn't suicide, Jaz convinces the local sheriff to let her help with the investigation. She and her delightful dog Luffy question suspects and find many secrets in their small town. Will they solve the murder? Or is the sheriff right and it's suicide? If it is murder, who might be next? Book 2 - Jaz and Luffy are off to college. When a student falls to death from the clock tower, Jaz and her faithful furry companion investigate to find out if it's an accident, suicide, or murder. If it is murder, could Jaz or one of her new friends be in danger? Book 3 - Jaz and Luffy are home for the holidays when a body is discovered in the town library. With just a short time before they have to return to school, can Jaz and Luffy find the killer? Luffy has a much bigger role in this investigation, and his involvement had me biting my nails!
The books in the Jaz and Luffy cozy mystery series are a delightful and entertaining read! They begin when Jaz is still a teenager, with her faithful dog Luffy always at her side. Jaz has visions of future murders, which sometimes incapacitate her for a few moments, and Luffy has learned to recognize them and make sure she is safe. Together they make a great investigative team! Each Murder happens in a different setting; book 1 finds a seasoned swimmer in an unlikely drowning; book 2 involves a student falling from a old college clock tower; and in book 3, a body is discovered in the library stacks! All of the books are clean, well-written and highly entertaining cozies. I especially love listening to Luffy’s thoughts and conversations with Jaz.
I read this 3-book bundle in record time because the protagonist was a young adult, which is different than in many mysteries. She occasionally had visions, and she could communicate with her dog, which was how she was able to solve the murders. She grew up in a very small town in Maine, so she was extremely familiar with the area and the people.
She also became a good friend to the FBI agent, who gave her support, and together with the dog, they worked at solving the murders.
I would recommend these books to anyone who likes cozy mysteries. It was so much fun to read!
Jasmine and her dog companion, Luffy share three mystery murders in this tri set of books. She is a young student and can share thoughts and speech with her dog. Jaz is blessed? with flashes of visions of the future that always lead to murder. She feels it is her duty to help the police catch the killer. Out of the three book 3 was my favorite for surprise ending. All three were well written.
I don’t recall anyone calling Jasmine ‘Jaz’, so the subtle seems a little off to me. The interaction between Jasmine and Luffy was a treat to read. Everyone who has a dog talks to their buddy, and who wouldn’t like to hear answers? The end of the third book seemed a little strange, but I don’t want to give something away, so I’ll keep that to myself.
I loved the fact that the main character was a teenager and there was a talking dog that kept her grounded. It was not sappy. I would recommend this to all my mystery loving family and friends it really deserved more than five stars
I loved this trilogy featuring Jasmine and Luffy, her dog. There were exciting adventures, solving murders and disappearances. Luffy can talk to Jaz, and helps her in her investigations. There was some humour and twists in these books.
If you are looking for a relaxing read, you've stumbled upon the correct series! You will find yourself smiling as you move along from one Cozy mystery to the next. Enjoy!
Wonderful mystery filled with plenty of excitement, surprises, danger, suspense, wonderful friends, and forgiveness.i would recommend this to everyone who enjoys reading a great mystery.
Telepathic dog is a wonderful premise but the author treats the dog’s thoughts/speech/communication as dialogue and that didn’t work for me. I couldn’t figure out what was being “heard” and by whom. Sorry, but I just couldn’t wade through.
I enjoyed reading the book series 1-3 of Jaz and Luffy murder mystery books. I believe that your dog knows you best. It would be really cool to actually talk with them. Jaz ability to have physic awareness is a big plus.
Engaging! Luffy is the best! Jax is ok., sometimes too pushy and seems like a spoiled know it all. Overall, she’s well rounded. The story has wholes and sometimes jumps to odd places. I really enjoyed reading it.
Paws in the Action: Psychic Sleuths and Talking Dogs (A Jaz and Luffy Cozy Mystery Book 1), my first enjoyable mystery read from author Max Parrott. Well-written with intriguing characters developed in great detail in the first few chapters of the book. I read a lot of clean, cozy mysteries & this book is more mystery than cozy. Sometimes a book is just enjoyable.
