Wild child bartender Wyatt Hart has a full plate. Her younger sister came home from college pregnant, and her mother just showed up fresh from prison.
So when a rare free evening at a roadside bar turns into a chance encounter with Owen McBride, local pediatrician and town golden boy, Wyatt knows better than to flirt with him. Or kiss him. Or follow the surprisingly filthy-mouthed good boy out to his truck. Wyatt doesn’t do relationships, after all, and Owen is the floor model of a boyfriend guy.
But when that one night quickly turns into flirty banter and fiery stolen moments, Owen promises Wyatt that he doesn’t need a relationship. He just needs her.
Everyone in town can tell that the bartender and the pediatrician are more than a fling, but that doesn’t stop Wyatt and Owen from lying to themselves … and each other. But Wyatt’s fear of relationships is about to catch up with her, and the town golden boy is harboring a secret that might undo him.
Lauren Morrill is the author of spicy adult and sweet YA romance, including Sister of the Bride, Meant to Be (Delacorte) and It’s Kind of a Cheesy Love Story (Farrar, Straus and Giroux). She loves all things romantic comedy and specializes in kissing books. Lauren lives in Knoxville, TN with her husband, Adam Ragusea, and their two children.
I have waited for a long time for this book, and I feel badly that it wasn't as amazing for me as the 1st book in the series. Wyatt and Owen's story was a slow burn with lots of innuendo and texting. I usually don't mind the texting in place of actual writing, but it felt a little excessive to me. Owen is the town pediatrician and Grace's older brother. Wyatt is Grace's best friend, who helps manage a bar, has tattoos, and is tight-lipped about her past.
Wyatt is in a no relationship zone when she's looking for some casual sex. There's a sexy moment with Owen, followed by a good 3 months of JUST texting. I get that we are supposed to see them get comfortable with the idea of a no strings attached situationship, but I was like, come on already. By the time they start to give into their feelings for each other physically, we can see it's not just sex. They both have baggage. I am glad that Wyatt opened up to Owen with hers and made up with an old friend. Owen actually kept something from her that caused the 3rd act breakup that I so hate. He had to get some help for his anxiety - something that he should have done earlier but there's still a stigma either mental health and even though Owen's a dr, we have to sit through some ridiculous beliefs about sparing people he loves from his worst version of himself. Like. Please stop. We all have our things. Wyatt went through that with mom issues and trust issues.
I did love the mix tapes!! What a lost art. If you haven't done it already, i recommend making playlists from your favorite mixtapes if you don't have a way to play cassettes anywhere. I like how they made up, and I am interested in the next book- presumably Carson and Dan, which we were left on a cliffhanger. Glad we also got to see Grace and Decker. 3.25/5☆
When I read More Than A Feeling, I put in my review that I was really looking forward to future books in this series, especially Dan’s story. The anticipation is still building because this is Owen’s story, but we get enough teases about Dan to keep us guessing.
I applied for an ARC of Caught Up In You, and was so excited when that link hit my inbox. It was the first time I had applied for an ARC from Lauren Morrill.
Owen is the brother of Grace (from Book 1) and of course Dan. Wyatt is one of Grace’s best friends. I do love the sibling’s best friend trope. He’s a relationship guy. She’s definitely not looking for anything more than a fun time. They happen to be in the same place at the same time and the chemistry is delicious.
Owen isn’t quite as vanilla as Wyatt thinks he is, and Wyatt’s past keeps showing up forcing her to face her hangups.
Random highlights for me are Owen’s best friend’s style of tough love and Debbie’s mix tapes. I do love a good mix tape. And I loved this book. Do yourself a solid and read it.
I love Cardinal Springs! There is nothing better than a really well written small town romance with compelling characters. Wyatt & Owen were such a fun couple and I adored their romance.
Owen & Wyatt are finally out in the world!! [insert me squealing YES! with my full chest here] These two are 🥵 from the jump. She’s a messy bartender with a lot going on, and he’s her best friend’s brother—the small town’s golden boy pediatrician. Yes that translates exactly as you'd hope🔥😉
These two are each juggling a lot when they decide to try a no-strings-attached relationship after a chance meeting. But what they don't bet on is how much they absolutely need the care and shelter the other one offers. Their love is real and raw and still somehow perfectly balanced with hot as heck scenes and absolutely perfect banter.
The author is one of my very favorite humans, but I can assure you I would be head-over-heels for Dr. Owen McBride if he was written by Clippy. 5 stars. No notes.
‘More Than a Feeling’ was one of my favorite books last year in the month that I read it, so I was very excited to have an opportunity to read this next book in the Cardinal Springs series. Wyatt and Owen’s individual stories were fascinating and both so moving.
Wyatt’s past with her mother was so integral to who she had become as an adult and in forming her attitude toward relationships. On the one hand, it made her love her people that much harder, and she showed that time and time again with her sister and friends. On the other, it closed her off to opening up to romantic relationships. Her journey was an interesting one.
Owen’s struggles made me sad for him while at the same time humanizing him for me. It felt very genuine that he would have the experience and reactions that he did. He was also a patient and understanding man with an incredibly kind heart.
I didn’t connect *as* much to the relationship between the two of them. It was steamy, and it was sweet, and I enjoyed their text message exchanges. I was rooting for them to figure things out between them to find happiness. However, I was more invested in them both doing what was necessary to sort through their independent lives for them to ultimately be happy together.
Thank you to Lauren Morrill for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Caught Up in You is a dual POV, opposites attract, small town romance. Wyatt's free-spirited, wild child image distracts from the reality that she is a woman who would do anything at all for those she cares about, hiding behind tough walls that protect her and her loved ones. She's convinced it's better all around if she avoids love and relationships, but with the younger sister she raised home from college pregnant, and a mother recently paroled from jail, Wyatt has a lot on her plate and is in need of a distraction. She's convinced that local pediatrician and all-around good guy Owen is all wrong for her, but the workaholic doctor is trying to learn how to have some fun, and he thinks Wyatt is the perfect fit. Some harmless flirtation and no strings fun slowly turns into a tangle of feelings, and now Wyatt and Owen both are trying to figure out how they got here!
What a great book to kick off a new year! I loved Owen, his patience with Wyatt’s reticence and determination to win her over. I loved Wyatt’s fierce love for the people who mattered to her. The anxiety representation was really well done, and the two of them together, along with all the side characters, made this such an enjoyable read. I can’t wait to read book 3 soon!
Caught Up In You 💜 The laughs are continued, the loves thrive & the writing style is always getting better, even though I didn't throught it as possible! However, this time I loved the represenation and the whole idea & character of the mmc, truly a man & a cutie pie! Ate it up as I did with the previous one-yes I am ready for MORE! 4⭐
Talk about slow burn!! 🔥 I love the way Lauren addresses a real life issue for many people. Anxiety is tricky to deal with. I think she handled it well using medication and therapy. Love Wyatt and Owen!!!
ARC Book Review 🍍Caught Up In You 💜 Book 2 in the Cardinal Springs Series By: @laurenmorrill
Overall: 3.75/5 Overall plot: 3.75/5 Character development: 3.75/5 Pace: 3.75/5 World building: 3.75/5 Spice 🌶️: 2.5/5
Thank you Lauren for letting me read this book ahead of the release date!
This is the first time I’ve read Lauren books and I’ll definitely be going back to read book 1!
I loved reading the build up between Wyatt and Owen. As individuals, Wyatt is a strong and independent woman who makes it her responsibility to protect those who are near and dear to her but also keeps people at arms length so she doesn’t get hurt, while Owen is the go-to pediatrician in town and is always the first one to help someone out and is easy-going. They couldn’t be more opposite so when they go through months of great and witty text banter - the build up is great!
They finally give in to their desires and enter in a no label, no strings attached “... hookup. A situationship. F*ck buddies.” and Owen will take whatever Wyatt is willing to give. 🍍← when you get to this part of the story, you’ll get what this means. 🌶️is turned up and we see a more dominant and wild Owen with a dirty mouth that Wyatt wasn’t expecting and enjoys thoroughly.
I liked how Morrill balances the 🌶️ of the romance while diving into heavier themes pertaining to family, trust, self acceptance and anxiety. I did feel that the HEA ending was a bit quick after they worked on themselves.
Overall, I’d recommend this book if you like to read a funny best friend’s brother, small town romance with some spice. 🍍
Tropes: 🍍 Small Town romance 💜 Forced proximity 🍍 Best friend’s brother 💜 No strings attached 🍍 Black cat x Golden retriever 💜 Anxiety Rep
Lauren Morrill delivers a small town romance that’s equal parts sizzling chemistry and heartfelt emotion in Caught Up In You. Wyatt Hart is tough on the outside, tender on the inside and when her life turned upside down by family drama—her sister’s unexpected pregnancy and her mother’s fresh release from prison—she becomes a whirlwind of resilience and vulnerability that makes her utterly relatable.
Enter Owen McBride, the town’s golden boy pediatrician with a surprising wild streak and a dirty mouth that rivals any bad boy’s. Their initial encounter is electric, but what makes this story shine is how their connection deepens beyond the steamy moments. Their banter is sharp, their stolen moments are fiery, and their chemistry leaps off the page.
Wyatt’s fear of commitment and Owen’s seemingly perfect image hide deeper layers of insecurity and past pain that add complexity to their relationship. The small town setting and meddling townspeople bring humor and charm, making the story feel warm and lived in.
Morrill does a brilliant job balancing the heat of Wyatt and Owen’s romance with heavier themes of family, trust, and self-acceptance. Wyatt’s journey to open herself to love feels authentic and earned, and Owen’s secret, when revealed, adds a poignant twist that deepens their bond.
If you love small town romances with a grumpy meets golden dynamic, a cast of memorable side characters, and plenty of steam and heart, Caught Up In You is a must read. Wyatt and Owen’s story is messy, emotional, and utterly satisfying—a reminder that sometimes love comes from the most unexpected places.
Thank you to Lauren Morrill for the eARC of this book.
“That guy is the golden boy of my town. Perfect in every way and very much not my speed,” I reply. “I bet Owen McBride is a perfectly sweet and giving lover, but you know that’s not what I’m looking for, Glenn.”
Caught Up In You | Lauren Morrill | Cardinal Springs #2
Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5, 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
“Everything he does makes me want him, and everything he does reminds me why that is a terrible idea.”
Read this if you love: best friend’s brother/sister’s best friend | town golden boy pediatrician with a dirty mouth | black cat bartender | no strings attached | anxiety rep
“I want to kiss her so bad I can taste it. Can taste her. The flavor of Wyatt Hart will probably never leave my mouth. But that’s not what she wants. And I’m in the giving-Wyatt-Hart-what-she-wants business.”
When I read More Than A Feeling last year I was immediately sold on Lauren’s books so I was very excited to read the next one in the series. Plus she has a way of writing that draws me into the story until the very end. This one is a whole roller coaster of emotions that left me with my jaw dropped at the end. (Lauren! How dare you with that ending! 😅) I adored Owen and his filthy mouth, but also the other side that he tries so hard to hide. Once he had his sight set on Wyatt there was no going. I loved Wyatt and it’s easy to see why she’s scared of any relationship. But the way she cares for the people she loves is beautiful. Also I think we need more Francie - she’s a hoot! And one more reason to read Lauren’s books, they always have the BEST grand gestures.
Thank you @laurenmorrill for the eARC. I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
I really enjoyed Caught Up In You. The plot, characters and romance were done really well. Both Owen and Wyatt were great characters who i adored, they had great chemistry. Wyatt was this badass woman who was constantly putting everyone else above herself- while she’s feisty she’s also so caring and loves her people fiercely. I loved seeing her scenes with Hazel and baby Eden. Getting to know Wyatt more in depth, who she was and what made her tick was interesting and i liked that while she was weary she was also so brave in everything she did. Owen was such an interesting character- someone who’d been through so much, was struggling so much but was putting on a smiley front and only showing his happiness and positivity when he was struggling. It was really heartbreaking to read some of his scenes and how he was feeling and i’m so glad we saw some progress in his journey and him really opening up to everyone, that when he was struggling he could share with those he loved. Something Lauren has done really well in this series so far is showing us that even when you’re going through stuff and are hiding things from those that love you sometimes the best thing is to just share that load so that they can be there for you, so they can understand and love you through it. I can’t wait for book 3!
Lauren Morrill nails the small-town, opposites-attract romance (again) in Caught Up in You! This book is a perfect mix of flirty, steamy, and emotional—with a bartender who refuses to settle down and a golden-boy pediatrician who just might be hiding a few secrets of his own.
Wyatt is my favorite kind of heroine—fierce, independent, and doing everything she can to hold her family together, even if it means pushing people away. Meanwhile, Owen is not the squeaky-clean doctor everyone assumes he is, and oh wow, his filthy mouth was an unexpected (and very welcome) surprise! Their chemistry? Off. The. Charts. What starts as a one-night thing turns into something deeper, with banter that had me grinning and tension that sizzled.
But what really makes this book stand out is the depth beneath the romance. Wyatt’s fear of relationships is so raw and real, and Owen’s hidden struggles add layers to his “perfect guy” persona. Watching them navigate their feelings (while insisting it’s just a fling) made every moment between them even more electric.
If you love small-town romances with undeniable chemistry, emotional depth, and a hero who is equal parts charming and shockingly dirty-talking, Caught Up in You is a must-read. Highly recommend!
I LOVED this book!! I read it in 4 days and I was so obsessed. Here are all the notes I took while reading LOL: - omg it's so funny - the TENSION - it's kind of a slow burn, but not the kind where you wait til 70% for them to kiss but the kind with a LOT of tension - I love the sections of text messages that describes what's been happening without it being a lengthy paragraph. It makes the book more entertaining to read with the format switches (not that it needs help being entertaining cuz I can't put the book down) - It had a third act breakup but also a very reasonable one that made sense and wasn't just there to add to the plot, so it didn't make me love the book any less (and I usually hate third act breakups). I just wish we got to read more about the two of them more after it and towards the end. - I LOVE the mixtapes omg
So basically I loved everything about it. The characters, especially learning more about Owen and Wyatt after the first book in this series. I kind of related to Owen, which made me love the story even more. I'm so excited to read the next book!!
I loved this book the best out of the whole series! It is a story between Owen who's a doctor & Wyatt who's a sassy bartender!
Their spicy banter is what I live for! 🥵 It is full of flirty texts that makes me giggle & kick my feet in air 😋
Though they both are polar opposites in their interest for relationship they somehow manage to bend and meet each other calling it a 'Pineapple' 😂 Without realising they're falling in love with each other until a sudden event from past strikes breaking them apart... I was so sad at this BUT again! A member from the Mc bride family played cupid to seal their relationship forever!
Is it really possible to make your ex your bestfriend!?😂 Lastly, I admire the medical knowledge of the author! She nailed it!
My favourite lines: ❤️ Shit, she really is jealous. I love it. How fun it was to play with her. ❤️ The only bright spot in this garbage day : a text from Wyatt.
🌟Not to forget their texts I love each and every one of them, they're my fav!!!🌟
This book had a hold of me from the very beginning. It started out with a super funny opening scene that made me laugh and it just kept going from there. Unlike the first book in this stand alone series, it is NOT a slow burn. There is definitely more open door spice in this story than the first book. The drama, banter, and heat picks up pretty quickly. I absolutely loved the characters and how they had such big personalities that brought everything to life. Wyatt is a feisty, caring, and puts everyone above herself. She avoids relationships and commitment. Owen is a pediatrician, a good boy that does no wrong, and very much into relationships and commitment. When their banter turns into a hot and heavy make-out session, thoughts of doing more keep creeping into their thoughts. They are texting and flirting but avoiding taking it to the next level for a while. When they finally do, there's not stopping it, until it does. It comes out of nowhere and is because of avoidance. This story has mentions of anxiety and panic attacks.
I follow this author on BlueSky/Instagram -- and I'll confess, I originally followed her because of her dog, Poptart.
I enjoyed the first book of the series a lot and pre-ordered this one once she announced it. I rather enjoy her snark and writing. This builds on the town and people from the first book but it really stands on its own, as well. Wyatt is fun as the slightly broken bad girl bartender. Owen is entertaining but a little more wooden but still has his moments.
This is the third book of hers I've read and while rom com isn't my normal go to genre, I've enjoyed her books and the books she's suggested.
As before I rather enjoyed the setting of small town Indiana with my adopted homes of Bloomington and Indianapolis areas as supporting, off-camera guest stars. The characters she creates here are fun and the dialog smart and snappy. It's a fun, fast read.
🎧Wyatt’s life consists of taking care of others; as a bartender doing the work the owner can’t manage, taking care of her younger sister Hazel whose just had a baby daughter and who’s still studying.
🎧When the edgy girl crosses paths with her best friend’s paediatrician brother at a dive bar out of town, he’s the last person she is keen to get involved with. He’s a relationship guy, she’s not looking for commitment.
✏️This is the second book in a series, but it works just fine as a standalone. Wyatt and Owen are characters with depth, empathy and so much love for each other (also so much attraction)! Despite each of their circumstances, they end up being the strongest supporters.
Read on Kindle Unlimited My rating 4/5 - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Once again, thanks for the complimentary copy, Love Notes! After reading More than a Feeling, Caught Up in You was a no-brainer election! If I thought Grace and Decker were the IT couple (mind you, they are), these two blew my mind! A warm, engaging romance about vulnerability and connection. Wyatt was carrying so much on her shoulders... I wanted to hug her desperatedly, but luckily, Owen was ther for her, cared for her, loved her and made everything better. Their black cat x golden retriever vibe was perfect! Even more so when not only the town but also us readers can see the big fat lie... stop denying yourselves, people! Tell them you love them! PLEASE! Once again, Lauren Morrill balances emotional depth with light, tender and heated moments, creating a story that feels genuine and deeply satisfying.
2nd book in the series, this is a slower burn last 1st book however just as cute!
Owen is the towns doctor, Wyatt is the wild bartender and Owen’s sister’s best friend. The romance story starts with one night in a bar, which ends in 3 months worth of texts. I loved that the texts were just really random, like you could truly get inside Wyatt’s head with the texts.
Throughout the book, you see the growth between Wyatt & Owen, Wyatt is a no relationship girl due to being hurt before and Owen is a relationship man, however when you connect with the right person, relationships names make no difference.
This book touches on Anxiety, heartbreak, family struggles. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I am excited to see the rest! I loved everyone was rooting for them to be together!
I am officially a Lauren Morrill superfan. I loved the first book in this series and I adored this one too. Black cat bartender meets golden retriever/golden boy town pediatrician for a no-strings (mmhmm sure) fling. But oops we caught feels. And oops we both have some sh*t to work through. And oops these feels are so real that I have a new beloved microtrope: I’ll figure my sh*t out for you.
This book has everything I love about romance: phenomenal banter, off the charts chemistry, fantastic steam, and a love story that will have you rooting so hard for these two to find their HEA.
How dare you make me tear up and then leave us with that ending?!? Thank you to the author for my #gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. I love the new cover design of this series but I’m not giving up my signed copy of book 1!
Man did I love Owen and Wyatt. They were so real and I loved seeing their nonrelationship grow. 🍍 That last chapter 😭 I wasn’t expecting that but should have been. It was so perfect for this story.
Read if you like: 💜 black cat / golden retriever (with a dirty mouth) 📼 pediatrician MMC / bartender FMC 💜 best friends brother 📼 no strings attached 💜 anxiety rep
And then Lauren gives us this epilogue and leaves us hanging. When is the next book? 🤣
With her kid sister expecting a baby and her mom freshly out of prison, Wyatt Hart has got a lot on her plate. She doesn’t have time for dating. When she encounters the small town’s golden boy pediatrician, sparks fly. But Wyatt is very clear: she doesn’t do relationships only flings. As things start to get serious, strings start to attach, and Wyatt is torn between sticking to her rules or finally letting go.
This was a sweet and spicy romance. I really liked Wyatt and Owen’s relationship. The banter and flirting was fun. I also appreciated the anxiety rep. I thought it was sensitively handled. Overall, it’s a cute book. I’m excited to read Dan and Carson’s story next.
Tropes: * Small town * Slow burn * Mental health rep * Best friend’s brother * Opposites attract * Found family
Caught Up In You was a wonderful small town romance packed pull of emotion, drama and angst. Together, Owen and Wyatt were funny, hot, spicy… ohmigod… spicy, and I was rooting for them the entire way through.
Completely opposite - he wants a relationship and she doesn’t, it took a while for them to get together, but once they did… hoo boy….
You could feel the love. You could feel the heartbreak. And the mental health/anxiety rep… so good! Even if it did cause a lot of angst.
Was that a cliffhanger leading to Dan and Carson???
I didn't mind waiting a whole year for this book. Wyatt and Owen's love story feels like a rollercoaster, with a lot of ups and downs.
Wyatt's difficult relationship with her mother made it so much better how easily she let Owen in. She even found it in her to reconcile with her former best friend.
Owen is the perfect Superman. Only, his kryptonite is anxiety. Honestly, same. Seeing him have a panic attack after thinking he had it all figured out, and shutting everyone out, felt so real.
Thank you Lauren Morril for the e-ARC. All thoughts are my own.
This book was such a great follow up to More Than A Feeling, and I cannot wait to read the rest in the series!! Basically, I would d*e for Owen McBride. And I want to smother him and Wyatt in hugs. And Eden too. Owen is Wyatt’s best friend’s brother. He’s a good guy. Wyatt is not a good girl, but we all know opposites attract. He’s the town’s pediatrician, she is the local bartender. Their banter is incredible, their text exchanges are hilarious, and their love story is slow and sweet in all the best ways.
I love a good interconnected standalone that makes me want to read the rest of the series, and don't get me started on how much I enjoy a good 'best friends brother' trope.
Owen & Wyatt's story had me hooked from early on & made me feel so attached to them both. Wyatt, for her strong & spunky attitude that I could easily relate to. Owen for realizing (though later into the book) that he needed help to learn to cope with his intense anxiety.
Lauren writes such strong characters that are begging you to love them and I can hardly wait to read more of the Cardinal Springs series.
Loved the character struggles, growth, and journeys for both lead characters. I appreciated the exploration of childhood trauma, anxiety, and panic attacks. . Main reason for 4, rather than 5 stars, below. Slight spoiler. . . . . . The 3rd act hurt a little too much... I am not a huge fan of the "I am breaking up to protect you" vibe. It almost hurts too much and causes too much pain. It's hard to believe in the couple thriving after this, especially when it was so hard for Wyatt to say I love you and commit in the first place.
