I’m Lacey Hallem, and I have a few secrets. These aren’t them: I wash my hands a lot and lie when I’m stressed. Also, I have horrible taste in men. That’s how I knew Dylan was trouble the first time I saw him…

Life can be challenging for Lacey, especially when things don’t come in sets of six, but she’s smart and funny and able to keep her demons at bay—most of the time. She might have sensed trouble when she set eyes on Dylan, a delectable musician in a vintage T-shirt, but that doesn’t stop her from thinking about him, or spending more and more time in his company.

Enter Thomas. Wealthy, handsome, and completely adoring of Lacey (flaws and all), he’s everything a man should be. So why can’t she convince her heart to fall in love?

Prepare to be swept up in Michele Zurlo’s emotional and compelling story of learning to trust yourself, facing the past, and finding strength you never knew you had.

Kiss Me Goodnight is by Michele Zurlo is a 2014 Omnific Publishing release. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lacey finds out she is about to be out of a job and falls back on behavior that she seems incapable of controlling. She lies and washes her hands obsessively and does things six times or has six of everything. These symptoms are recognized immediately by a Dylan, a guy Lacey accidently spilled coffee on at the food court. She and Dylan continue to run into one another and once Lacey is sure Dylan is single she lets her guard down around him a little.
Dylan is in a band named... yep you guess it- "Kiss Me Goodnight" . It just so happens Lacey is going to work at the club where Dylan is playing. Before long, Lacey has become the band's manager. But, things between Lacey and Dylan tend to run hot and cold. Dylan isn't married now, but he was. The situation is really sensitive and Lacey is sure Dylan is still pining over his wife. So, when Lacey's former boss makes contact with her and asked her out, Lacey doesn't see why she should hang around waiting for Dylan. Dylan's reaction to Lacey's new love interest is rather interesting. Does he just want to be friends with Lacey? Does he view her as a fragile, mentally ill girl that he feels compassion for and nothing else? Well, those are very good questions and Lacey thinks she knows the answers. But is she right about Dylan?
Recently, I have fallen out of love with New Adult romances. The characters are too immature and let one hurt destoy all the good in a relationship. This book is NA but very different and a cut above. This book is listed as New Adult but could also fall into the Chick Lit or Contemporary Romance categories as well. I thought the author did a very good job of writing in first person . It's obvious that Lacey has OCD and it's not being controlled medically or with a counselor. Despite those handicaps, Lacey does manage to lead a productive life although she can drive her friends and family a little crazy. It's not doing things six times, it's not the constant hand washing, it's the lying that gets to most people. We aren't talking about little white lies here. These are whoppers!! Lacey has quite an imagination too! Sometimes I couldn't help but laugh at her antics, but I know it's not really funny. The author does a good job of showing how life is for those suffering with this type of disorder. That is why the first person narrative works so well here. We are inside Lacey's head and are getting a front row seat to her everyday struggles.
Dylan ... well, that's a tough one. I think I have to side with Lacey because Dylan never indicated he was romantically interested in Lacey. He's quiet and moody and expects Lacey to know how he feels without showing her or telling her. It wasn't until Lacey got fed up with him and started trying to move on with her life that Dylan decided he had the right to be jealous. He then turns into a real arse . I don't know how I would feel if I were Lacey . I think she had a right to feel angry and hurt . Does Dylan redeem himself? Slowly, but he's still so low key and quiet. I guess Lacey needs someone like that considering her condition, but I would have liked more of a grand gesture for Lacey. While Dylan had some real hard knocks in life, Lacey really had some HUGE traumas and so I felt bad for Dylan but not as bad as I felt for Lacey. Overall this was a very solid romance novel that dealt with difficult subject matter and still managed to entertain. This one gets four stars.

I wasn’t sure what kind of journey I was in for from this book when I first started to read it. Lacey clearly has issues, she admits to lying on a daily basis in the past. As the book progresses her OCD is shown as coping mechanism of dark event in her life, the number six and it multiples manifests itself into everything. Six cans/bottles of everything in her cupboards, washing her hands six times whenever she finds herself getting anxious. You don’t get to fully understand why the six is so significant until the reason for her compulsions is revealed. The event is dark, tugs on the heart strings of the reader and refreshingly different one for an author to focus on, not the usual sexual abuse that is prevalent in a lot of new adult genres. The writing is great and absorbing, you feel her distress, her need to lie, to make her hands red raw. I was Team Dylan for the majority of the book but he could have acted better at times towards Lacey, dead wife or no dead wife. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lacey is a very unique character and I fell in love with Dylan right away. But then Thomas comes into the picture and changes everything. I don't want to give anything away so I will just say that I loved this story. It is not a cliff hanger but I can't wait to read more of this story.

In this first book in Ms. Zurlo's Kiss Me series it's a rocky journey to HEA for a lively heroine weighted down with emotional baggage and the quiet yet caring rock star in the making. The heroine, Lacey, is like none I've seen before and I at turns admired her as well as being frustrated by her. Dylan was just what I expected and though we didn't get to dig as deeply into his psyche I was still drawn to his reserved yet supportive self.

Lacey's been through a lot in her life that would've crushed most women. After a bloody and horrific event left her silent for years it took a lot to become a functioning person again. She's not fully recovered by any means though as she falls back on OCDish tendencies when under stress....and she's a compulsive liar during stressful moments as well. The lies roll off her easily and were part of why I was left frustrated by her. She's good at justifying these lies, and for the most part they're harmless, but it led to issues in all her relationships. I was actually surprised she had ANY friends and it just made me realize how loyal they were to her. Lacey's romantic relationships haven't gone well either as she has the tendency to be with married men. She's finally come to realize that she deserves better, she deserves to be number one in a man's heart. Just when she decides that, two men come into her life to throw her love life into chaos as she must choose which man's world is a better fit and where she'll be most complete in a journey full of twists and turns. Lacey accepts her faults wholeheartedly, she makes no excuses and doesn't use her past as a crutch. I admired her for her fortitude and for not settling for less. She's a unique and memorable heroine but one I'm glad isn't a friend of mine as she's very trying.

Dylan's still recovering from the loss of his wife when he has a life-altering encounter with Lacey that leaves him enamored of her and slowly but surely forming a relationship with her. In this friends to something more relationship though he's not quite clear on what he wants, which left things up in the air for them and opened the door for another man to get between them. He never pushes Lacey but is always there for her in his caring and compassionate way, treating her more as someone to cure than to sleep with. Once the loss hits him of what he let slip through his fingers he makes some grand gestures, through his music, to give her no doubts as to how he feels about her. Dylan is sexy and charming and I loved witnessing the journey from local band to being on the cusp of celebrity. He's caring and supportive and deserved achieving his dreams after being relegated to second place throughout his marriage which left me rooting for him.

With its unconventional heroine who left this reader conflicted at times, Ms. Zurlo has crafted a compelling read. With its first person narrative we get great insight into Lacey which showed an unrepentant heroine whose antics at times left me smiling. Dylan was an immensely likable character but nothing groundbreaking. He was steady and strong and just what Lacey needed. Their initial meeting was full of sexual tension that never let up and culminated in some very steamy interludes late in the story that made for a sexy and playful relationship. The secondary characters are equally likable, especially the other man in Lacey's life (Thomas), with lots of stories of their own yet to be told. Though this book has a completely satisfying ending it looks as if there's more to come and I know that I'll be back for the next installment.

These stories are written in narrative format. It took me a while to get into it. Think the way the narrator from Stand by Me tells the story and interjects at times. Or even how Carrie Bradshaw narrates through an episode of Sex in the City. Once I did get used to this type of writing, I couldn’t stop reading these books.

This is the love story of Lacey and Dylan. Lacey has severe OCD and PTSD from a hell of childhood. Dylan, who suffers from a few issues himself, falls head over heels with Lacey from the moment his lap was covered in Latte.

I could relate to Lacey. I really got her and her tendencies. I check the stove many times. I even make sure I really locked my doors. So yeah I get her. She was highly flawed and she owned it. Dylan sees her, understands her, and helps her. Along the way, some of Lacey’s flaws are an asset to her and to Dylan. She helps Dylan with his band, Kiss me Goodbye, and gets them seen.

Lacey tries to push everyone away as a defense. When she meets Thomas, she tries to push Dylan away. Good thing Dylan won’t let her. He waits and when he sees the opening he needs he goes for it.

In the second book, we see that one little lie can affect those you love the most. Be careful what you wish for, you will get it. Just when Lacey decides to end her suffering fate steps in.

I could tell from the beginning, that although the journey to their happily ever after would be hard filled with heartache, they would ultimately achieve it. You laugh, you cry, and you fall in love right along with Lacey and Dylan.

I did not expect this from Zurlo. I've read all her other stuff, and so I had to get this one. It's not erotic, and it's not BDSM, but I LOVED it anyway.

Lacey is one hell of a messed up heroine! She's smart and spunky and strong. I liked her from the first chapter--when she shouted, "my purse--it had my diaphragm. I need that!" in a crowded restaurant

I loved the way this story was written as if you were friends with Lacey. This had some really laugh out loud moments. Neither the protagonists were free from fault. They felt like real people with flaws and faults. Lacey had to work through a lot - she told lies, kept people at a distance, and had OCD. If you told me about this character, I wouldn't think I'd like her, but that's the thing about a great book. You change your perceptions and grow with the characters. I love watching her progress and laughing my ass off along the way. Dylan was dealing with his own loss, and he wasn't ready for Lacey in the beginning. I love how they grew into each other with real growth. This is a great read!

Lacey is not like other NA protagonists, and I mean that in a good way. When she's stressed, she lies and she also has OCD, but after we learn about her past, I can see how those minor personality traits are minor compared to how she could have turned out. I don't want to give anything away, but this is a must read and I'm excited there will be a follow-up book for Lacey!

2.5 STARS Editing is very poor. I actually really liked the story and the quirky characters. Nothing was completely laid out bare. Something lurked around the corners and I could barely get a feel for what might come out. I liked the believable predictabilities.
