Traveling to the 1892 gold rush mining town of Telluride, Colorado, a former gunslinger and an aristocratic Mexican find themselves in an unlikely partnership when an explosive chain of events threatens the one thing they have in common. Reprint. K. PW.
I don't usually read westerns but this one really got my attention. Colorado silver mines, a very sheltered young woman and a Spaniard with an interesting past. I hope there is a sequel to this!
I read this while in Telluride for 2010 Bluegrass Festival, which made it better than it probably is... I enjoyed it and thought her descriptions of the mines and the workers were vivid. The story is violent and a little overwrought, but it was a quick read and gave me some perspective on Telluride's history.
I was entertained. The book is an escape into historical fiction, and does give us a different perspective of the modern-day sanitized Telluride. It does morph into a who-done-it type of book, and I think it could have been more interesting if it deviated from the traditional western novel. But overall it was an entertaining book that I read through quickly.
