Finn Bannon may be the sexy, charming firefighter most women fawn over, but I can’t stand him. Worse, he’s now living in the bottom unit of the house I rent. He’s also my new landlord.
I’m a busy single mom with no time for romance. I’ve already loved—and lost—the man I was meant to grow old with and it left me alone, with a son who will never know his father.
Plus, I know Finn’s type and I’m not interested. So, I make it clear his relentless flirting with me is pointless. It’s not happening.
Only now, living literal steps apart, I get to know the real Finn and I realize I’ve seriously misjudged him.
The way he treats my son—and his adorable niece he’s helping raise—softens my heart toward him. The way he treats me doesn’t hurt either.
One by one, my walls start to fall, complicating things. Especially when I learn first-hand how well the man knows his way around a woman's body.
I told myself it was just physical. But it’s moved well beyond that. Finn has made it clear he’s all in with me and my son, who worships him.
I panic. Big time. Our hearts were never supposed to get involved. Now what do I do? Loving him could mean losing him and I’m not sure I can risk us going through that again.
Finley Daniels writes romances that are heartfelt, healing, and filled with happy endings. Don’t be surprised if you laugh, cry, then laugh again all in the same book. Finley probably did all of those while writing it…
Finley is a voracious reader. She often loses herself (and sleep) for hours at a time into the world of whatever book she is reading… especially if she’s lucky enough to be relaxing somewhere on a warm beach near the ocean.
She loves gardening, being out in nature, and her fur babies. Her husband isn't so bad, either. She’s also obsessed with watching the owls that live in a nesting box in her back yard. That means if you follow her newsletter, you’ll undoubtedly see lots of pics featuring flowers, pups, and owls!
Finley lives in the Northeastern United States.

Oh my, Finn Bannon. You are such a hot cinnamon roll. 🥰 I loved this book. It was so sweet. The MCs had great chemistry and I loved their banter. I laughed a little, choked up and shed a few tears and swooned. Finn was so sweet with all the stuff he did for Shayna. ❤️ The love between the kids and the grown ups in this book was just precious.
Tropes and stuff: ❤️Dislike to lovers ❤️Single mom ❤️Close proximity ❤️Firefighter MMC ❤️Hospice Nurse FMC 🌶️Open door spice
FIVE YEARS AGO: Shayna Donley gave birth to Tommy four months after Tommy’s daddy Tom passed away from cancer. He was one of Jack’s best friends. Jack vows to be there for Shayna and Tommy. Jack is having problems in his marriage after returning from his last deployment. Telling Shay his marriage was easier when he was deployed.
Present: Five plus years have passed but Annie is moving in with Jack who already seems happier. Fitz, Ben his twin, and the new guy at the fire station Finn, are there helping Annie move. The firefighters love Annie she is a nurse at the hospital. Shayna is a nurse, however, she chooses to help those at the end of their lives transition with dignity, peace, and love. The brownstone that Annie is leaving Shayna and Tommy will be taking over. When Shayna first saw Finn she described him as smoking hot like a five-alarm fire, hot.
A tall Adonis. At the same time, she admired how Finn’s triceps flexed while he was lifting his end of a bookshelf. Hmm, I bet he could hold his body up with just one of those arms. What? She’s the mother of a kindergartener, not dead—of course she’d notice. During the moving experience, Finn made one critical mistake that any rookie could have made. However, if he wants any chance with Shayna he needs to shore it up and bring his “A” game. Grabbing the cabinet by the side, she squatted, preparing to lift, and looked up.
She quickly stands upright when she sees sexy firefighter Finn walking toward her. Shayna discreetly wipes her face on her shirt sleeve so he doesn’t see the sweat mustache she’s sporting. Sh--!, he’s hot. “Hey, little lady, that looks too heavy for you. I’ll get it,” he says. Shayna’s sure she must have heard him wrong. Did he really just call her a little lady? Nothing can ruin a man’s hotness like him opening his mouth and saying something stupid. “Excuse me? What the fuck did you just call me?” She practically spit, now pissed as hell.
Yep, make her mad, and her trucker’s mouth comes out. She recognized it doesn’t take much to piss her off, but she can’t believe the audacity of him. And then, he does it…he rolls his eyes at her like she’s some crazy chick and has the nerve to reach for the file cabinet. Shayna had lost her cool now. She realizes as she's doing it, she may actually look crazy, but she kicks at him to keep him away while she holds on to the cabinet. Thank God Tommy is with his paternal grandparents and isn’t here to witness her swearing and hitting.
Christ, Shayna, great example here. Then, even though she didn’t really mean to, Shayna gets a shot in, right on his shin. He yelps, backing away. “Jesus, woman! I was just trying to help!” “You called me little lady, you asshole! I’m perfectly capable of getting this in the house. I certainly don’t need some He-Man-looking muscled-up chump telling me what I can and can’t do. And—” “Okay, Xena, calm down. I won’t try to carry the cabinet. Christ.” “What the hell is a Xena?” “You know who He-Man is, but not Xena the Warrior Princess?
How super feminist of you,” he says sarcastically. Welcome to their meet-cute. These two have a lot of verbal sparring going on. If Shayna gave him half a chance she would be surprised by what she would see. Everyone needs a Finn.
Way less firefighter/nurse action compared to book 1, but the scenes with the kids made up for it in adorableness. They both had to go through so much at 5 years old, experiencing and accepting loss, but still able to be optimistic and enjoy being a kid. Finn and Shayna definitely got off on the wrong foot and at times their banter seemed childish, but I enjoyed their character growth and how their friendship slowly developed. Shayna was compassionate and doing her best as a single mom (and a nurse), I loved that she had such a good support system with her family. Finn was a "if he wanted to, he would" kind of man with all his acts of service and I loved how important family was to him and how he treated the kids. Some typos and maybe a new writing style for me caused me to reread some sentences multiple times to make sure I read it correctly and that my brain wasn't skipping over words. Overall, a 4.25-4.5 for me, but I'll round up since I read this in two sittings, there wasn’t a dull moment in the book, and I loved all the interactions with the kids.
This is the second book by Finley Daniels that I have read and is the second one in the series of the Ellendale Firefighters. This is a standalone book but Come Back To Us sorta of an introduction into the relationship of Finn and Shayna. This couple is cute, frustrating and funny. Finn makes comments that upset Shayna and then her tries to make up to her for the comment. Shayna is stubborn to the core and has walls that are built around her heart since she lost her highschool sweetheart. Once Finn becomes her landlord things start to change between them. This is a sweet story to read and I think is a must read.
I’m loving this series and I love Shayna and Finn’s story. I’m really enjoying this author’s stories. Both Shayna and Finn have past they have to get past especially Shayna and losing her husband and father to their son. She has to learn to trust and to open her heart to love again which is a hard thing to do. They both go in to the relationship just being friends and Shayna is bound and determined to keep it that way regardless of her feelings or Finn’s. When Finn wants more Shayna pulls back so he has to let her go but can he win her back. I’m glad this couple gets their happy ending. I throughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.
I discovered this author recently and I'm glad I did. I love her writing style and her stories are very engaging.
With that being said, I loved this book. Every girl needs a Finn Bannon in her life. He was the sweetest and always showed his love in the best possible way. Very patient and a true golden retriever. I definitely added him to my book boyfriend list.
The kids were the perfect complement and their dynamic made the book even better. The only thing I didn't like was the third act break, but I'm a hater of that kind of thing, so maybe is a me problem.
Anyways, I loved the book and the bonus scene was really sweet too.
This was a perfect second book, that can easily be read as a standalone. There’s cameos by the main characters from the first book, but nothing detrimental to the story that one needs the first book. The character development and story were developed well. I laughed out loud and shed a few tears. The spice is well written and fun to read. The spice doesn’t start right away, it’s not that type of book. However, the story to get the spice will have you invested in the main characters and everyone else in their lives.
Not much about firefighting and nursing jobs. I understand FMC is grieving but there’s a lot of emotional whiplash for the MMC and then all of a sudden it’s “move in together and marriage”?!
The kids are freaking adorable 💜 I love that they showed realistic different family dynamics and aren’t a cookie cutter family I did skim a bit when FMC was annoying me or story was dragging/predictable
This book was just what I wanted when I read it

Finley sure brought the heat in this book! I loved Shayna's sass and strength and that Finn was more than just a sexy firefighter . His character was all of what most women want! Their chemistry was off the charts. And the kids are such well developed supporting characters!! The book wouldn't have been the same without them!! Hoping for more from this series!!!
I love when I discover a new series with spicy romance. I am enjoying this one. The spice is of the medium heat and the characters are relatable and interesting and I do enjoy that the reader is able to get more information on the stories of previous books from the continuing friendships. I am off to the next book. Grab the first in this series and enjoy the journey!
What a sweet learned to love again romance. Single parenthood, hot firefighter, and a hospice nurse lays a beautiful foundation to this story. It is the second in a four book series I bought and I loved every minute. I love that you get all the players in this series. The couple leading are more than swoon worthy.
A must read !!! Captivating love story of loss ,survival of the human spirit, spicy!! And love trumping all else I love this book took me two days ( because of work) the anticipation almost had me lol.but so well worth it beautiful ending to a beautiful story .cannot wait to read the rest of this series!!!!!
This was such a good love story. Romance is a real heart engulfing action isn't it. I joke with my friends saying, "Romance is only in books." Truthfully I'm a romantic at heart and still wish for a guy to be this attentive, caring and solid in a relationship. Good job Finley. This shapes up to be a good series.
Love the continuing story of the Elladine firefighters, nurses, paramedics. Sweet spicy, love story. Fairly straightforward and not as angsty as the first book about Jack and Annie but still a lovely story! Hope there are more…..
Oh i really loved this book the most out of the series!!! the kids just stole my heart everything was so perfect!!! loved every single moment of it. i really can’t wait for the next book.
This was good but there wasn’t anything that stood out to me. It would have been nice to have some drama or something to shock you. I loved Finns character. I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book.

Finn was just so sweet and wonderful. Finn turned out to be exactly what Shayna needed. She was able to open her heart to him. Finn was patient, loving, understanding and loved Shayna so much. I love them together.
Unfortunately Shayna is a bitch. She’s not strong, she’s just a bitch. She’s not a good heroine to me. I liked Finn. He’s too much of a good guy for her. Like on new years she kisses another guy because he’s watching. Then she just keeps judging him. I really dislike her.
Some of the smut was a little to much and was unnecessary for the book in my opinion. The best part of the book was the last part of the book where everything came together. Overall was an easy and sweet read for the second book of the series.
Omgeeeeeeeeee my heart can’t handle the sweetnesssssss…. The tears have flowed through this book.. Dealing with loss , healing , realizing you deserve more… Them All coming together in a beautiful happy bundle of love…
As a character I found Shayna disappointing. Friends, family and Finn all encouraged and supported her but she felt undeserving. This irritated me. The other characters and the story rescued this book.
this was such a sweet book. I loved the story between Finn and Shay and how naturally it evolved between them. I loved the first book, but this one I loved it even more
I loved the H but the h was so unlikable!! If it hadn’t been for the two kids then I’d have stopped reading. It wasn’t until 91% till the h at least became a better person.
I didn’t like how much the author used God’s name in vain. I don’t like it at all but, this was way over the top usage.
Cute Read, I'm so enjoying these stories and this one touched me deeply, with the kind words from the Hospice Nurse, it meant so much to the person she said them too.
