Bennett Alfred Cerf (May 25, 1898 – August 27, 1971) was an American writer, owner of The Modern Library publishing house, and co-founder of the American publishing firm Random House.
Cerf was also known for his compilations of jokes and stories, and for his regular appearances on the panel game show What's My Line?
Stories to make you feel better by Bennett Cerf Great stories especially liked the trucker having a meal in a diner and 3 bikers come in and mess with his food and drink. Trucker gets up, pays for his meal and leaves. They tell the waiter he's not much of a fighter. Waiter says he's not much of a truck driver, he just ran over 3 motorcycles. Many subjects, i can see these in reader's digest. good chuckles. I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Fun and light-hearted, this book has the feel of its time. One of many books by Bennett Cerf, a man I wish I had had the pleasure of knowing. My favorite little story in this book is the one about the doctor who charges either $100 or $200 to deliver a baby. Read the book to find out why, and enjoy all the other vignettes as well.
This is what people had before the internet. Anecdotes designed and told to entertain, amuse, and lift the mood of the reader. Some were kinda sweet. Some were mildly racist. None made me laugh.
Short but fun little book of amusing stories and jokes, told by Random House publisher and "What's My Line?" panelist Bennett Cerf. It appears this was published right after he died, so hopefully his stories made others feel better. Foreword by John Charles Daly.
