This was a fun continuation of the storyline that ended in Hanging Chad, which saw a group of anti-gay, anti-government separatists trying to take down our guys on the Willow Springs Ranch. This time around, though, the stakes are higher, because one of the men who has sought refuge there is none other than Tanner Triplett -- the son of one of the main conspirators and one of the guys who had spent time trying to undermine the operations of the ranch.
Park's Lot actually starts with events that occurred near the end of "Hanging Chad." In that novel, Tanner and his brother, T-Bone, were plotting . Tanner, however, decided that he did not want to take part in the plan, so he waved a literal white flag of surrender. T-Bone, however, was a bit of a sociopath, so he clocked his brother on the back of the head, hoping that he was dead. After that, he moved to carry out the plot. In the meantime, though, Tanner managed to drag himself to relative safety, but then he passed out in the desert for several days. Park's Lot picks up when Park, the hippie child of -- hell, who knows, Aquarius and the seventh son of a seventh son? -- stumbled across Tanner while camping off-grid, and decided to save his life. Of course, saving Tanner entailed more than simply waking him up and feeding him. It also included a series of events that brought Tanner face-to-face with the men from the Willow Springs Ranch.
Once again, we see this haven for gay men open its arms to another stray, and we also see how this slowly-growing group of men becomes a loyal pack who will defend each other like literal comrades in arms. This tendency becomes useful in the context of resolving (we think?) the separatist storyline. It read a bit like an action film, and it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you've read this far, you're invested. So go with it. I'm invested -- I like the guys at the ranch! My one criticism, though, stems from the insta-love dynamic that popped up between Tanner and Park. They were together, I think, for something like 1-2 days before each one was fairly convinced he was in love with the other. Having said that, Harner gives them an exploratory ending that made the insta-love approach go down a little better.
Overall, this was a fun novel, especially if you've already invested time in the series. It was an enjoyable 3 stars!

When I started this one, I figured that I wouldn't much like it. I mean, Park pushes many of my 'gets on my nerves' buttons. He's a bit too hippy drippy for me. He kind of grew on me, though. He wasn't nearly jaded enough, however, after having worked for CPS. I can definitely see why he wouldn't be able to do that job.
Tanner was a pretty interesting character. He grew up in a bad atmosphere. His dad and brother are very homophobic and Tanner has had to keep himself hidden out of fear for his life. Tanner never wanted to sabotage the WSR, but he felt he didn't have much of a choice. So he did choose to do things that wouldn't cause too much trouble or hurt people. He's in a rather bad spot. But he decides he doesn't want to do his father's and brother's bidding anymore and that nearly costs him his life.
As with the other stories in this series, the MC's go from introducing themselves to the "L" word in record time. Also, as with the other stories in this series, the sexytimes are pretty hot. The one thing that I really liked about this one is the uncertainty that both Park and Tanner have about their relationship. They want to be together, but they recognize that they don't know much about each other.

Sadly, I feel I have no other choice than to reduce my ratings for all Laura Harner books. The evidence of plagiarism for some of her books appears incontrovertible and she has even apologized for it. This, for me, taints her entire body of work. I can no longer trust the integrity of any of her writing.

I like the idea if kismet, and it was just meant to be for Tanner and Park. I wasn't sure I would like Tanner because of all the bad stuff he did to WSR, but after getting more background of what his life was like he was very easy to love. Park was a seriously weird hippy character but he really made the story fun, and I enjoyed how he cared for Park right from the get go.

I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again. Every series has that one book that just doesn’t hold up to the rest of the series. In the Willow Springs Ranch Series, that book is Park’s Lot. Without reservation or hesitation, I can lay the blame for this squarely at one character’s feet, Park Williams.
Park was introduced briefly in Hanging Chad as the social worker assigned to Chad’s case. Chad’s case was so corrupt and wrong on so many levels that it became the straw that broke the camel’s back. Along with all the other hurt and despair Park has seen as a social worker, he has decided to call it quits and move on to the next stage of his life. Park’s Lot opens with Park and his two dogs taking off into the wild blue yonder where, as it turns out is just a few miles from the Willow Springs Ranch. Park fully intends to spend two solid weeks living of the land (and protein bars) and being completely removed from all of civilization. The unfortunate presence of one badly beaten and near-death Tanner Triplett throws a huge monkey wrench into those plans.
Tanner Triplett has had a truly shitty life and it sure doesn’t seem to be getting any better. His father and brother are true believers in some pretty scary stuff and have spent their lives trying to convince Tanner of the rightness of their path. Tanner’s family is so convinced that Tanner has spent the bulk of his life hiding his true nature from his family. If his father and brother really knew about Tanner, they would kill him. In fact, Tanner is pretty sure his current near-death status is a direct result of his brother’s attack. What’s worse, if his body isn’t found, his brother is going to come after him again and this time, he’ll finish the job he started.
When Park and his dogs find Tanner alone and hurt in the middle of the desert there is no question about helping him. As circumstances play out, Park ends up taking Tanner to the WSR, the one place Tanner has been taught is an abomination and should be destroyed. In fact, Tanner has played a part in more than one act of destruction against the WSR and fully expects the men who live at the ranch to instantly turn him over to the authorities. What Tanner doesn’t expect is Park to vehemently come to his defense and for Cass and crew to not only take him in and help him but, be more than willing to listen to his story. In fact, for the first time in his life, Tanner feels accepted for who he is and wants nothing more than to live his life as he chooses, according to his beliefs, and to make amends for his actions.
As Tanner’s injuries heal his emotions also come into focus and he accepts his feelings for Park. Park is adamant in his belief in Tanner’s goodness but it is going to take more than a few sweet words to convince Tanner of the truth. The first step toward earning back his honor and self-respect is divulging everything he knows about his family’s plans for the WSR. Though Tanner doesn’t know every detail, he knows enough to go to the authorities which will, in turn bring down a huge network of evil-doers, plotters, and schemers.
The Bottom Line: Park’s Lot brings to a close one of the major plot lines that has spanned several books in the Willow Springs Ranch series. The resolution of this plot line is beyond satisfying and, along with Tanner, is the primary reason this read made it to 2½ stars for me. Tanner isn’t the guy you think you’re going to like but once his story comes out, he becomes a far more likeable character. His only flaw, for me, is his choice of partner. Park is just a truly terrible character though I may be one of the few who feels that way. There are just so many aspects to Park, his behavior, and manner that I never could get past. Believe me, I tried. I read the book twice and Park just never got better for me. Of all the WSR men, Park is the most effeminate and doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the WSR cast and crew. His most admirable quality is his devotion to Tanner and his dogs. Yeah, that’s all I’ve got there. As with most series, I won’t let one bad read turn me away from the rest of these reads and so, it is forward I shall go.

Scooby had to pee and instead found you.... Pick your flavor. All I know is somewhere in the big bad world of destiny and fate, the planets and stars aligned, kismet turned a cartwheel, and the house of the rising sun flowed through Aquarius to let the sunshine in."
Ah, Park, from the moment you stepped on the pages in your vintage VW van, hippy/vegan outlook, your Great Dane named Taco and your Chihuahua named Scooby, you owned a little piece of me. I was already a little in lust with Tanner, having seen him in previous books and knowing there was so much more to him than a homophobic, redneck, militia crazy, like his father and brother. And, wow! What a combo of guys to put together, Laura Harner. I think the author had a field day writing these guys. *grins*
When Park finds Tanner, he is practically dead from the blow to the head that Tanner's brother T-bone gave him. Seems that Tanner wanting to come clean with the WSR and fess up to the "plan" his father and the general have for destroying everyone on the ranch, didn't sit too well with T-bone. So, Tanner and Park end up at the WSR where Tanner confesses everything to Cass, Ty, Holden, Chance, Jesse and Park. Tanner and Park end up being guests at the ranch while everyone starts trying to figure out how to build a case against the Trip-T and the general. At the ranch is where Tanner gets to see Park in all his glory, so to speak, with his hair in a bun, his guyliner on, and his NEON-PINK Croc's! Love it. *giggle*
As expected, the crap-tastic brother and father Tanner has try to kill him again, but with help from the WSR, Tanner makes it. Just in time to spend two weeks with the Feds in Flagstaff providing testimony to indict his father, his brother and any other members of the Armed Militia he can identify. Woohoo! Of course, two weeks away means some hesitancy and "what are we doing" when Tanner and Park are reunited.
Yep! Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. I'm pretty much insanely crazy over the 'Willow Springs Ranch' series and after Ty and Cass I think Park and Tanner qualify as my next favorite couple. So.......Laura.....when do I get more? Huh? Pretty please. I'm begging here.....

This is book 5 and I have to say the best yet. Where they ach do stand-alone well and there is sufficient backstory you can follow alone on this one I do recommend you read at least the last two Taking Chance and Hanging Chad or at least hanging Chad.
Park is a very unique man. He works for child abuse enforcement n Flagstaff and after his last case involving Chad Ollam, a gay teacher accused of abusing his students, Park has decided to retire and take a long needed vacation to find himself and what he wants to do with his life. He has two dogs Taco and Scooby and sets off to off grid camp farther south in Arizona near the Willow Springs Ranch. He stops to let the dogs out when Scooby stumbles across a man near dead.
Tanner Triplett has done some bad things. He has tried to be as little involved as possible in his father’s crazy schemes, but his brother has pushed until he feels hopeless. Left dying in the brush, he is surprised when a beautiful man and his dogs come across him and the man refuses to leave him, spouting stuff about fates, destiny and kismets and cartwheels. Tanner knows that Park will be in danger if he stays so he takes him to Willow Springs ranch knowing he will be sent to prison if they don’t kill him first.
This book is full of action from beginning to end. It pulls together a long ongoing mystery form the other books and introduces us to park and gives us more Tanner. I was also happy Ty, Cass and Chase all played more roles in this book too. I loved how Scooby and Taco and Park’s eccentricities lighten the angst, murder and mayhem of the plot. Park and Tanner’s story was worth the wait!
If you believe in destiny or fate, like ongoing westerns, ranchers, lawmen, cooks, Navy Seals, rodeo stars, mystery, suspense, dogs, vegans, hippies, and some hot man-sex. This is definitely for you

I love this one! We first met Park Williams in all his rainbow glory when he worked with COS and cleared Chad of any wrong doing, as well as let him know he was being set up in 'Hanging Chad'. Now he as well as his aDorkable dogs Taco and Scooby are headed for some camping on the BLM land near Willow Springs Ranch.
Scooby and Taco find a badly dehydrated Tanner Triplett and Park nurses him back to health. Kismet! Karma! So of course they are going to fall in love right? So, it's not easy. Tanner has to accept his family is batshit crazy and give up his dream of running the ranch that should be his birthright. Plus, his psych brother tried to kill him, then blow him up. Owning his own vandalism and arson attempts on the WSR and admitting his is a 23 year old virgin, poor Tanner! Then of course Oark is open, blunt, beautiful and VEGAN!! Haha! This whole book had me laughing at Oark, Scooby and Taco and practically weeping for poor Tanner.
If you loved Park, Tanner, Scooby & Taco as much as I do be sure to check out Pulp Friction 2014, they get another story while they hide out, it's called 'Kismet & Cartwheels' and maybe you'll find out about Shadowman while you do.
P.S. I just happened to be reading 'Kismet & Cartwheels' when Cliven Bundy got his fifteen minutes of fame. It was surreal to realize real life was stranger than fiction. I even wrote a email to Laura Harner asking if the Triplett's were based on people she had met. I lived in Bullhead City & worked in Laughlin back in 1984 after spending several years in Las Vegas. I've been to Kingman, Lake Havasu and Tucson. I adore that area of the country, it's one of the reasons I love this series, brings back Happy memories of that beautiful area. I'm so glad I didn't meet anyone like the General, T-Bone, his father or Willie Hutchinson while I lived there. Knowing people like that really do exist, the Armed Resistance Militia isn't quite as fictional as I thought is worrisome.

Like the other books of the WSR series this one was WAY too short, and had so many way that it could have been expanded and not draggy. There was a lot that could be told about couple... they are like the poster couple of the saying OPPOSITE ATTRACTS.
Tanner is born raised die hard cowboy who the idea of living without a horse would be easier like telling him to just stop breathing.... Park is a hippy, Karma living vegan who loves to paint his eyes with a blue eye shadow and black liner... pride of who he is comes easy for Park where Tanner was in the closet his whole life.
The idea of any of them having anything in common is a miracle, but they do find each other and shockingly fall in love.
Tanner had a lot of deep family issues the main, his brother tried to kill him and his father is a I'd like to see them all dead gay bashing bigot.
Park was like a sunshine in a dark tunnel to Tanner... but this book didn't really get into the depth of their relation ship as much as it could have, it really cheated this couple out of so much drama that would have been awesome to read... Kismet and Cartwheels was a great addition to Tanner and Park's story cause it gives you more into their relationship and show how there was so much more to write about this couple... so I was glad about that book, but it too was WAY too short.

Tanner had a lot of deep family issues the main, his brother tried to kill him and his father is a I'd like to see them all dead gay bashing bigot.
Park was like a sunshine in a dark tunnel to Tanner... but this book didn't really get into the depth of their relation ship as much as it could have, it really cheated this couple out of so much drama that would have been awesome to read... Kismet and Cartwheels was a great addition to Tanner and Park's story cause it gives you more into their relationship and show how there was so much more to write about this couple... so I was glad about that book, but it too was WAY too short.

Actually more like 3.5 stars. I love the world that Laura Harner has created at Willow Springs Ranch and I really like the new characters of Park and Tanner, but the story seemed to be lacking. There was a lot of story there potentially with the Triple T Ranch, what they had been doing and the relationship between Tanner and his family, but instead of telling that story the book seemed to concentrate on the sex. Now I'm not saying the sex scenes weren't good, I would have just liked them to be a small part of the story.
Ultimately, this felt like it wanted to be a much longer book and it was edited down significantly, but left in all the sex parts...
I've read all the books up to this one and love them, but with all the couples, I'm starting to get a little confused on who is who - and how they all came to the ranch to start with. Park is different though, through the description of the character and how everyone responded to him, I got a clear picture in my mind of him. Small, pixieish, and borderline angelic. I love the description of him walking barefoot with the hint of his feet sticking out of the legs of his jeans that were fraying from being walked on. Definitely different than all the other guys/cowboys at the ranch.
While not my favorite overall story, I will continue reading the WSR series.

In this entry in the series I felt that the suspense element overshadowed the romance. There is plenty of action and suspense--and it is really interesting and well done--but very little time for the MCs to connect. The time that they do spend together is in bed (but not in the really hot scenes I'm used to from Harner). I think that this is definitely a nascent relationship that's gone off to look for a HEA, not the I-love-yous of a duo that has gotten to know each other in any real way. I liked both characters, especially Park. I thought his swishy-ness was a little overdone (vegan, hair scrunchie, eyeliner, pink crocs, etc). Tanner was a young man caught in an escalating situation who stepped forward at last to try and do the right thing. He came off as a strong and sweet (blushing and virginal about sex) guy. One thing I found irritating was that, by the end, they were each calling the other "honey" all the time. It started out as a kind of super-gay thing Park did but then Tanner picked it up too and it was just everywhere. I've been a little let down over the past few books in the series--I found it much stronger at the start--but I plan to continue and see if the sensational sex, phenomenal chemistry, and emotional depth comes back.

As installment #5 of the Willow Springs Ranch Series, this series just keeps getting better and better. This story was about Tanner and Park. Two more completely opposite men you will never find. Tanner is a very good looking rancher, who at the present time is in a lot of trouble. Park is a drop dead gorgeous hippie type on a camping trip with his dogs. When Park's dogs find an unconscious Tanner, how could he turn his back on a gorgeous cowboy who needed help. This is a terrifically written story about forgiveness and pain. How after all was said and done Tanner needed help seeing that he did the right thing. That he was loved just for who he is. That it takes a very brave man to stand strong and do what he did.
Laura Harner is a terrific author in the M/M genre. Her characters are strong wonderful men and I love that we get a happily ever after, even with some of our cliffhangers. This was another outstanding installment in this series. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES AND THIS BOOK!!!

I read this in one sitting. The WSR series is like chocolate, you never have enough. Or potato chips, you can't eat just one. Or wine, is one glass really all you want? Yes, you get it, I have an addiction.
This time we meet Park Williams, a vegan raised by hippy parents. Park decides to camp on the outskirts of WSR when he discovers a badly beaten Tanner Tripplet. Tanner has been left for dead by his psychopathic brother after a botched attempt to kill one of the WS ranch hands.
Park nurses his wounds, and yes, he is attracted to Tanner. Park, with his eyeliner, and no desire to hide who he is, befuddles Tanner. Tanner has never acknowledge that he is gay, not if he wanted to stay alive in his homophobic family. With Park he begins to realize his true self.
I have affection for this particular installment because I roomed with a Park. This made me smile many times. I can't wait for the next one. I give this a Volkswagen van full of stars.

Great read if...you enjoyed the other books in the series, quick reads, cowboys, romance, M/M romance, drama, following your heart, betrayal in a good way, being true to yourself, hot sex, and a HEA! (Side note: There are a few punctuation mistakes but you'll survive. This was great! Really loved Tanner and Park was fun! However...it's got a feeling like this might be the end of the stories, but dear goodness I hope not!)

You will fall in love!
The WSR series is one of my favorites, and this is a great addition to the story. It answers some questions and you get to see the same cast of characters from the rest of the series. I fell in love with Park in the last book and I am glad Tanner is a good guy.

Good book
I love this series. I liked Tanner from the beginning, felt that he was a good guy, just in a no-win situation. I was happy to see Park and knew he'd be good for Tanner. Hope another book is coming about the WSR. This is a really good series. Excited to read the next book in this series.

3.5 stars--Although this was an enjoyable read, it was not nearly as good as the previous ones in the series. The MCs were certainly likeable, but the story and dialog didn't seem quite real. Based on Harner's other works, I was a bit disappointed in this one. Harner still, however, remains one of my favorite m/m authors.

This was a great m/m romance with tension, drama, humor, and sex. It was a bit confusing because it has been a while since I read the previous books. There are just too many sexy cowboys!
I was discouraged because there was a misplaced comma on the second page (the bus, sped past the exit). There were also a few missing words later on. Overall though it was well written.

3.5 I like this series, this was an enjoyable read. Park is probably my favorite character in the series - I loved his vegan hippie eyeliner wearing attitude.

This book wasn't as good as the others, maybe a little rushed. But I did like Park. And I'm glad Tanner was trying to make amends.
