One will be broken.

One will be lost.

Drama filled short story about a bunch of awesome brothers

Genre: New Adult Romance.
Cover: 4/10
Writing: 8/10
Heroine: 5/10
Hero: 8/10
Hotness: 3/10
Romance: 6/10
Ending: 8/10
Extra book Details: Mostly dual POV. Approx 80 pages.

Set in a small town, where everyone knows everything. 'Boys South of the Mason Dixon' is a series of short books featuring the loves and lives of the Sutton brothers...

Asher – the eldest, the protective brother
Bray – the moody, angry, dark horse
Brent – Bray's twin, his total opposite
Steel – all round good guy
Dallas – the youngest at 17 years and the biggest, Momma's boy

BLURB:Asher has been away at college for two years. When he left, he left Dixie his girlfriend, and she has no idea why.

They had been the 'golden couple'. Asher was a Football star and loved by the girls of the town. Now he's back, his momma is ill and... Dixie's been dating Steel for 9 months.

Asher has been suffering all these years, he's never truly stopped loving Dixie, he had to leave, he had to protect a secret, but he never thought Dixie would fall for his brother.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Well it just goes to show how much can be done with 80 pages.
For such a short read I was sucked right in, dying to know the secret, eager to learn more about these intriguing young men.

Though I really enjoyed it, there were a few things that made it less than perfect for me. I was a little confused whether Asher been away 2 or 3 years, at different times he was gone 2, other times 3. I didn't understand what made Dixie loveable, she is what what I like to call a 'blank canvas heroine'; acts as a normal woman would, but no defining personality.

Like I said, I loved the brothers (my fave is Dallas at the moment), but I also really liked Dixie's Dad, Dixie's best friend Scarlet and the Sutton boys' mother. Though they weren't in it for long, they came across as good characters quickly.

Was I happy with the end? Not totally. I hope that by the end of the series there will be more of a HEA for the main characters than that was given in this book.

Loved the sneak peek of the next book, which features another love triangle with Scarlet, Dixie's wild best friend, looks like the series will get hot too!

Please forgive the all caps ( they won't last long,I swears)

JUST SO YOU DON'T MISS IT, GR HAS LABELED THIS WRONG, THIS IS NOT JUST #1, IT'S EPISODE ONE (it says so on the book cover) YES, THAT MEANS IT'S A FUCKING SERIAL!

Before taking my review to heart, Keep in mind, if you can't tell already, that I despise serials....they're IMO a sneaky way of tricking readers into spending more money, ....when I buy your book I want a whole damn story, not a little bit, then get a cliffhanger, just so I have to buy the next book. And the next one, and the next one......that's rings too much of calling a phone sex line or a psychic hotline....you get to a certain point, but oh no! If you want more, you gotta pay up! ( no offense to anyone who uses either, if they're your thing, enjoy:))
I don't call phone sex operators, I don't call psychics, and I sure as hell don't buy stories that aren't even fucking finished.
If I had registered the episode one bit I'd have avoided this like the mother fucking plague....

So having said that....

There's way to much melodrama in this, and there's little to no buildup, we're just tossed into the deep end, with little to no preparation. Also, there's a trope I freaking hate .

Also there's way too many characters, and too many pov's, the only sex scene was thrown in at the end, between characters that are the focus of the next book( and iirc, was supposed to come off as kinky/ bdsm-y, but for me anyway, fell short of the mark), and there's no resolution to any damn thing. (Which is why I stay the hell away from fucking serials! Grrr!) and the southern stereotype was a little over the top.

So yeah, now that I know it's a serial I won't be reading any more. Maybe if I'd have been pulled in more, maybe if I'd actually liked any of the characters, I'd give the next one a go, ( but probably not, I really hate serials, dammit!) but this wasn't for me. To be fair, the writing itself, minus the typos, wasn't all bad. Had this been a full story, I wouldn't have hated it. Also if you're a fan of serials, you may like this, like i said, it just not my cuppa.

4 The Sutton Boys Stars 顔顔顔顔

Note
I just found out who actually Effy Vaughn is from Abbi Glines' facebook page this morning. Yes, Effy Vaughn is Abbi's pen name.
This novella is free posted on Abbi's Blog

ABOUT THE BOOK

Tittle: Asher
Series: Boys South of the Mason Dixon #1
Author: Effy Vaughn aka Abbi Glines
Release Date: March 7th 2014
Rating: 4 stars
Cliffhanger: Yes
Writing Style: First Person, Multiple POV. Yes, it's multiple. It's not only 2 people but 4. But mostly dual.
HEA:

MY REVIEW

The Sutton Boys consist of 5 hot brothers who live in a small town of Malroy, Alabama.
Meet the boys:
1 Asher: the eldest, protective, a very good big brother.
2 Bray: only a year younger than Asher. Moody, a loaded gun guy, rarely smile
3 Brent: Bray's twin brother, totally opposite from Bray.
4 Steel: all round good guy
5 Dallas: the youngest, he adores Asher so much, Momma's boy.

Asher is a very kind, protective, wise guy. He's a right figure for big brother, or Japanese usually say he is お兄ちゃんらしい.
It's like he's born to be a good protector. Protecting people he loves is a natural thing for him. It's what he does to this girl, Dixie Monroe. He loves her so much and promised her forever. But then suddenly he leaves her alone without any words. He ignores her for 3 years and acts as if there's nothing happened between them in the past. And Dixie doesn't know the reason why he did it to her.

Asher actually has reason for that. He wants to protect her. But he just can't explain it to her or to anyone else.

Until he finds out that Steel, his little brother is dating her.

Seriously this part was really making me curious I couldn't put it down until I figure the secret Asher keeps by himself.

So when the secret revealed...

He wants Steel to know this secret too. So he told him but he should promise that they won't tell Dixie about that.
But then Steel broke his promise. He told Dixie.
But actually

Asher and Steel had a big fight when Steel broke his promise. But after another facts revealed Asher decided to give up on Dixie. He wants Steel who makes her happy, since he has proposed her too.

If you read Abbi Glines' book, I think you actually will notice that this novella is written by her. Because the plot and writing style are so Abbi!
Love story with complicated fucked-up family problems background..

This is short. I liked those boys. Especially Asher. Since I'm an oldest one, I've always wanted to have a big brother that can protect and love me the way Asher does 感涙
What I don't like from this novella is, the story is not focus on 2 main characters (one hero and one heroine). The story between Asher, Dixie, and Steel is still hanging and there's another characters pop up.. And I don't like the girl..
Dixie has this redhead best friend, Scarlet. She's dating Brent but then she also fucks his twin brother, Bray just because she thinks Bray is more mysterious and it turn her on when he's talking dirty and controlling during sex.
WHAT THE FUCK??!
description

I HATE THAT BITCH SO MUCH!

This is what I actually don't really like from Abbi's books.. Too many characters pop up in the middle of main story that make the story becomes too long and complicated, and end up with too many spin-offs, like Too Far series 照れる

I know this novella is not a stand-alone story, but if I see from the teaser, the next episode would be focused on Bray and Brent's story, aka another brothers-love-triangle story.

So what'd happen to Asher, Dixie and Steel then?!
I actually prefer if this one is only focused on Asher, Dixie and Steel love triangle then the next episode is the twin's..
Because I might won't read the next episode since I hate the girl so much!! LOL

I hate the unfaithful love!

WARNING: This is the first episode in a new serial. New episodes are to be released every other Friday. Each one will be about 100 pages in length and will be an ongoing saga -- so expect cliffhangers at the end of each new story.

Down south along the Mason Dixon Line lived five brothers -- five really gorgeous and bad boys. Only thing keeping them in line was one strong-willed momma who ruled the roost. There's a wide range of diversity in the personalities of the brothers that keeps things jumping. One thing stands strong: they love one another without question and are momma's boys.

There's plenty of good old soap opera drama and lots and lots of hot, sizzling romance.

Well-written and without a bunch of editing problems. The story stays true to southern roots and is a mixture of emotional angst and fun-to-read as well. The plot is nothing new and one that you've probably read more than once -- but it still comes across refreshingly well done.

Where to start with this one.

This is a shorter read, and apparently the series is set up as “episodes?” So be prepared that this does end on a sort of cliffhanger unfortunately.

With that said, the writing is great. It’s told in multiple POV, and to be fair, there are a lot of characters to keep track of.
Asher himself has a lot of brothers to keep straight. Haha.

The main idea you need to follow is that Asher and Dixie were once a couple. The “IT” couple actually. But Asher broke her heart and left town….leaving Dixie with no answers or closure. Dixie eventually moved on…..with his brother?! Yeah, you read that right.

What we don’t know is that Asher is hiding a secret. One that Dixie should have known. I won’t spoil it and tell you what that secret is…but once you find out, you’ll understand why it didn’t make sense for him to just….run and not tell her!

Either way….it was an interesting, dramatic read. And I want to read more. 😂😂

JESUS. LORD.

I came across this book by chance and have been waiting for it to be released ever since. Country themed... A band of hot brothers... The South. YES PLEASE! The moment it went live, I bought it and read it in a matter of two hours. To say I enjoyed this book a lot is an understatement! I was hooked from the first few pages and fell for each of the brothers. Each one brings something different to the table and it makes them difficult not to like. Go ahead and try to dismiss their southern charm. You won't be able to! But my favorite character? The mother. She is a riot and I love her! She doesn't put up with shit, but best of all her boys respect her. She is awesome.

This is a serial series, meaning the books are fairly short but will be released one after another. Think novella size, but doesn't read like a novella (which is a good thing). Never have read anything like this before, I quickly became intrigued and couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved southern dialect! It rang true and kept the story authentic. I had assumed each book would be about a different brother, but it's not. We follow the lives of each one through a different point of view for each chapter. But don't let that scare you a way! All the point of views work perfectly for this story and very easy to follow. I was pleasantly surprised considering the length of the book. Trust me! However, I will say one thing...

YOU. WILL. WANT. MORE.

I am dying for the next one to come out now! I have no idea which path these boys will take, but I do know one thing for sure- I can't wait to go with them!

Update 6/3/14- I guess this was Abbi Glines alternative pen name, and she'll release the episodes for free (which is good because they were never released and we were left hanging)... http://www.abbiglines.com/2014/06/eff...

3.5-4 stars. This was definitely a clever way to write a story. The Author will be releasing new episodes every three weeks on a Friday, which is a cool concept. It’s like tuning in to your favorite TV show…. I was concerned at first about paying $.99 every two weeks in order to complete the story, but was assured that the overall cost will be within the going e-book rates.

Told in multiple POV’s, it’s a story about the Sutton brothers, who are the stereotypical corn fed country boys. Asher, who is the eldest of the boys, comes home unannounced to take care of some family concerns. Once he’s home, he finds out that he’s been out of the loop and discovers that another family member has to endure something that he tried his damndest to protect his family from. There is already betrayal in the mix, love that is forbidden, and the unfortunate expectation of future heartbreak. Since this is episode 1, the story leaves you hanging in all measures. Which is why I cannot wait until the 21st! Who knows, this may be a clever, refreshing way to read books – I’m hooked. It kind of reminds me of Fiction Press or fanfic stories that I read, but I’m not held to the mercy of when the author has finished another chapter to the story, this Author has set dates.

Fun read!

Holy Crap this book was good!!! Starting Bray now and will write a "real review" later!!

Can understand why Abbi would want a pen name, but damn. I'll read anything she wants to write!!!!

*********
And this was after I finished Bray. ;)

What, that's how it ends!?!?!?!?! I need more now!!

This is what Abbi does. She is the queen of drama with insane backstories. I think this series is the best so far and I am a big fan of her other series!

These Sutton boys are holy crap h-a-w-t! I want one!! Can't wait for more of this series.

If you are a late bloomer to this like me here's what you need to know...

Abbi Glines decided to write under a pen name so she could write something for her.
She started writing Asher and dang if she didn't stir up a hornet's nest! You can meet the Boys South of Mason Dixon here: http://www.abbiglines.com/2014/06/eff...

This is the second installment called Bray and man if I don't need more right now! http://www.abbiglines.com/?s=bray

This is a serialization so I know there are more chapters coming. But in this one, Asher dumped the love of his life (and the love of her life, if you are to believe her) for some unknown reason and three years later she is involved with his brother. Asher returns to town still having conniptions about having to leave his love in the dust. And, she's still grieving even though the brother has asked her to marry him.

We, the readers, find out why the breakup happened those three years ago. And, yes, it is a legitimate reason for all the angst. But then we find out that what everyone believed to be true isn't, yippee! I don't know if I can handle another chapter.

4 YUMMY SUTTON BOYS STARS...yes, I know, there are 5 Sutton Boys ;-)

I know these serial type stories are all the rage and while I have been known to indulge in a few myself...I have been trying to stay away as the wait can be agonizing and sometimes, the anticipation is SO MUCH MORE than the book and sometimes, the cost is just not worth it in the long run. Okay, I'll get off my soap box now...

With all this said, I started reading Asher, part of The Boys South of the Mason Dixon series and what can I say, I am hooked...I have no willpower...from this first taste, I can tell the Sutton Boys are going to be wild, fun and DEE-LISH.

I may eat my words but for now, I'm willing to ride this cowboy (pun intended). If you're looking for HOT southern boys with strong family ties, drama, sex and love then, this will fit the bill!

ODIO LOS TRIÁNGULOS AMOROSOS ENTRE HERMANOS. Y aquí hay dos. Bien.

This was good!! It was a very engaging, quick read. I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from here. Keep in mind that this is a serial, so things are pretty unresolved in the end. I wish that there had been a more explosive ending, but it's a serial so maybe that's coming later on in the series! :)

This book was amazing!!! I did not like the end!! I was catapulted into this book and snared on the first page! I actually read this before I knew who Effy Vaughn was!! It was grittier and more raw than Abbi Glines' series that are out! I really likes this book and I'm really hoping that the end isn't really what it seemed!!

WTF. Abbi Glines, I love you.I'm addicted. OFFICIALLY ADDICTED.
I hated the heroine and the love triangle. I hated it! But couldn't stop reading.
#GuiltyPleasure.
Won't rate it. I didn't like it as much as Abbi's Seabreeze and Rosemary beach books, but I enjoyed it. I felt infurated by the heroine, but HEY I COULDN'T STOP.
This felt like The Vincent Boys. I mean, love triangle and proper girls chasing bad guys. It's like a drug.
I won't be rating it because I hated it, but loved it. See my point here? I love to hate this.
