Randi Lynn Brown grew up in Possum Hollow, Alabama with dreams of someday becoming a famous model. But when the opportunity arises for her to do just that, she finds herself rethinking everything. What if she fails? And can she really leave Skeeter Cooper behind? Not that there is really anything to leave behind. The irritating man has made it clear that she ain’t his kinda female. The kind that drinks and curses and doesn’t mind getting a little dirty. Maybe he’s right. Then again, maybe he ain’t.
Skeeter Cooper likes fishing, drinking and locking horns with that sexy, sassy female, Randi Lynn Brown. It’s not until word gets out that she might be moving to New York City that he realizes how much he’s gonna miss having her in his life. But he ain’t about to keep her from chasing after her dream. He even offers to take her to Manhattan. The only ‘catch’ being she’ll have to attend a bass fishing tournament with him along the way. Problem is fish ain’t the only thing that ends up getting hooked that weekend!
Despite her modeling success, Randi Lynn finds herself yearning for the very place she’d always been so eager to leave behind. For the man she left behind. Following her heart, she returns to Possum Hollow, determined that nothing, not even one annoyingly stubborn man, is gonna keep her from finally REELING IN HER REDNECK for good.

Okay, where to start...While this book wasn't bad, I still had to force myself to finish it and I skipped a good chunk of the middle. The beginning was really slow and I could not stand the redneck speak. It literally drove me crazy. If this book wouldn't have been given to me, I probably wouldn't have finished it. I couldn't handle it. I'm giving it three (instead of 1 or 2) stars because I think I would have liked it more if they were speaking proper English. The writing was good with a classic story line and likeable enough characters (I even got a used to the redneck names). I just could not get past the way they spoke. I know I should have expected it with the title, but I just didn't realize how much it would bug me.
**Provided by Netgalley and Lindsey Brookes for an honest review** 3.5 stars This is a soft and subtle romance, but there are a few fairly noticeable inconsistencies in it, but they don't manage to detract much from the book.We have Caitlyn our feisty yet petit camp leader who is desperate to save her camp for troubled teens but manages to kidnap the wrong brother.Dalton is the black sheep of his family as he left to follow his dream and not look after the family business.Dalton is kidnapped by Caitlyn and he finds himself very intrigued by an accident prone woman how sets his pulse racing. After a meeting with both brothers, Caitlyn can only go ahead with the summer camp with Brandon's stipulation that Dalton agrees to be in charge of it.It soon becomes very clear why Caitlyn is so passionate about the camp, and not only has Dalton fallen hard for the girl, he has found he has loved helping the kids in challenging them to be better people.A god soft-hearted romance.
I read Jimmie Joe Johnson, Manwhore and quite frankly, I was a bit a loss for words! This book involves the sister Randi Lynn, who is gorgeous, sweet and totally naïve for the world. She loves Skeeter and he lusts for her, but both are too stubborn to admit it to the other. Enough of a plot description?
Well, this story was somewhat predictable, but in all the right ways. The dialogue is hilarious… though seriously, every time I heard Randi Lynn say diddling in her sweet southern voice, I was laughing. Then the whole fishing trip where I just suspected that Randi Lynn would kick butt, then she totally does! Awesome!
Skeeter, as a character seems to be following a trend of males in books I have read recently: A boy inside a man! That man had some seriously major growing up to do! I was so glad that he manned up before it was too late, but lucky for him, Randi Lynn loved him something fierce. Enjoy!
This was a wonderful and sexy read! There was humor, romance and steamy scenes - and lots of them. However, the reason why I'm giving this book only 3 stars is the language of the book. Just like a reviewer before me, it almost drove me nuts to follow the story (a plot, I really liked!), because of that, I got more and more irritated.
I have no idea, maybe it was written this way to make the story more sultry, more "southern"? No. It was almost a chore to finish the book. Don't get me wrong, I think the plot is great and the characters are quirky and loveable, but the language was a turn off for me. I do look forward to the next book in this series (if this is a series), because Lindsey Brookes creates enganging stories. I just hope that she'll take pity on us, who are not fluent in "redneck speak" ;)
As the follow up book to one titled Jimmie Joe Johnson: Manwhore, Reeling in the Redneck doesn't sound nearly as controversial. To be honest, I didn't actually purchase the first book until I saw the second on Netgalley. But I am glad that I did. Possum Hollow, Alabama is a small town just chock full of interesting characters.
This book picks up the story a few months after the conclusion of book one. Randi Lynn and Skeeter Cooper are still rubbing each other the wrong way and creating sparks every time they are in each others company, but their awareness of each other is slowly changing. When Randi Lynn receives a letter from a modeling agency finally giving her a real shot at her life long dream of becoming a model, the entire town pulls together to help raise the money for her to start her dream. Randi Lynn is scared but excited and Skeeter gets a bit cranky about the idea of Randi Lynn leaving. However, since he has fishing tournament the weekend before in New York State, he offers to give Randi Lynn a ride up, as long as she can rough it a few days first. Knowing she has to save as much money as possible, she accepts. As they spend days alone together, Randi Lynn and Skeeter come to know each other a lot better and fall in love along the way.
I was a little confused by the blurb, I took it this would be Randi Lynn coming back to town after being gone to claim her man story. But that's not it at all. Most of the story is Randi Lynn actually getting to New York for her interview and her and Skeeter's adventures along the way. At its basics this is a story about realizing that some things are worth fighting for and that sometimes dreams change. As in the first, the POV flipped back and forth between the two main characters and worked well for this book. I enjoyed this story even more than the first and can't wait to find out what is next for the crew. I gave this book 4 stars.

With this book I’m really not even sure where to begin with it. I think its safe to say that this big city girl (who grew up in a small city) can’t stand “redneck” slang/speach though.
I am only giving this an extra star because I think it has potential to be a great “feel good” romance but at the moment it’s just not anywhere close to be there yet.
Some things that drove me nuts in this book was the slang, it made it very difficult to read, or understand. It’s also told in dual POV, and when the POV changes there is no warning it just happens. I would have to back track reading the understand who’s POV I was reading. There were also several errors as far as names of people being in the wrong place which made it harder to understand.
Some plot things I just didn’t think needed to be there were the sudden arrival of a long lost cousin, and what the heck is the deal with their family being witches? Nothing really came about from the cousin, maybe she’ll have her own book later but I’m not really sure. I can’t find anything that tells me if this is going to be a series. The witch thing too, why the heck did that need to be in there? It made the story even less believable, and added nothing but awkwardness, and no where in the blurb does it mention this book is going to be a slightly paranormal book.
I feel like this story was thrown together rather fast and not fully thought through. I would have liked to have seen more depth/change to the characters, and I’d love to see the “redneck” slang toned down a bit.
I can not in good conscious recommend this read to anyone, and I also would not buy this book if given the chance.
Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
My Thoughts: Frankly I don’t have much to say about Reeling in the Redneck. The big point for everyone reading this is that it was a DNF (Did Not Finish) for me. As most of you know that’s a pretty rare thing, I have a some sort of OCD need to finish books once I’ve started them. So they have to be pretty awful or have awful qualities for me to give up on them (especially since I really believe that every book deserves to be read).
I didn’t even make it to the part where she’s planning to move to New York and word gets out. That isn’t a spoiler, it’s in the overview. Maybe Reeling in the Redneck had a great story. I wouldn’t know because I had a hard time concentrating on anything other than the atrocious grammar. The entire book was written the way a redneck or someone from the very deep south would speak. It was beyond grating. I wanted to scoop out my brain and scrub furiously until I forgot it all.
The characters weren’t relatable, at least not for me. I’ve never been the type to sit on someone’s lap in a pick-up truck (that’s not safe), attend or participate in a bass fishing tournament (I’ve never had the opportunity), or been “discovered” as model material (I’m ok with that). Initially, I also had a problem with the name Skeeter. I kept picture Doug Funny’s blue friend, Skeeter, not a sexy redneck.
Obviously I wouldn’t recommend Reeling in the Redneck since I am guilty of a DNF here.
I'm not sure how rednecks speak, but damn if Ms. Brookes didn't make the characters accents hilarious. This story is no love at first sight thing; its an I've known you and hated you for years but somewhere along the line I think I fell for you.
The story follows Randi Lynn Brown, she dreams of leaving her small town of Possum Hollow, Alabama and making it big in New York as model; and Skeeter Cooper, your apparent run of the mill redneck [again still not sure what a real redneck is], he dream of nothing but fishing and womanizing [or he used to until he decides to admit there's only 1 woman he wants to be diddlin (super funny word the author uses a lot)].
When Randi Lynn gets an interview with an agency in New York, she needs a ride and well Skeeter just happens to have a tournament up that way. Sparks set a blazing fire, but Skeeter want Randi Lynn to have her shot at her dream, so he goes back to Possum Hollow [do towns named like that really exist] alone and a little depressed.
Randi Lynn stays in New York happy (or so she says) that her dream of modeling has come true. As the days go by she is missing Skeeter more and more. Well she decides to cast her line one last time and reel herself a redneck.
The story is lighthearted and funny as hell, the characters are entertaining and I'm already feeling a sequel, which I will definitely buy. You will definitely have fun reading this book I know I did.
I loved this damn book! I loved Skeeter, "but what hooked my attention and reeled it in was the lime green halter top she was wearing. Cute lower in front than anything I'd ever seen Randi Lynn in. Too damn ow. It displayed the soft, fleshy curves of them perfectly lit - tle breasts of hers. "You leave somethin' at home?" I muttered with a frown. And Randi Lynn that girl has some damn good comebacks, "she glanced down, a smile sliding across her face. "Seems your lower half ain't got any complaints 'bout what I'm wearin' tonight." She lifted a challenging gaze to mine, daring me to deny it." And the boy gets offended when he might have or have not remembered something, "Randi Lynn's having seen my co** aroused or not, weren't something I woulda forgotten. No way in hell." The boy is just a temptation, "cause I'm feelin' a little too tempted to do somethin' other than talk lookin' up at you from this angle. You been dressin' like that in New York?" I can't wait to see what this series has to bring.
Randi Lynn Brown and Skeeter Cooper both grew up in Possum Hollow. While Skeeter likes the redneck life Randi has hopes of being a model. Skeeter runs a bait and tackle shop in Possum Hollow. Randi has been training to be a model and she dresses the part. Nothing like the people in Possum Hollow. She wears dresses and heels. Skeeter really likes the way she looks in her heels. Her sister just had a baby with Skeeter's best friend Jimmie joe. Skeeter offers to take Randi to New York when she gets an interview with a modeling agency. That's when they discover the real feelings they have for each other. A good story if you can follow redneck southern speech. It was a cute story. This book does contain profanity and sexual scenes so it is not for everyone.
You know I was really looking forward for this book because the cover was great. Sadly though for me the story didn’t do it for me. I expected more of Skeeter yet I couldn’t understand how this man who seems strong gets chicken with this woman. Now Randi knows she wants Skeeter yet just like him doesn’t do anything. I was getting frustrated waiting and waiting. Seemed more like a cat and mouse game I’m like no. It just didn’t do it for me and I wanted to really like it thinking maybe this redneck could convince me too sadly no.
This is the second book in the Possum Hollow series by Lindsey Brookes, and every bit as funny as the first book, this book follows Randi Lynn and Skeeter's story, with all the characters from the first book still part of it.
Randi Lynn always dreamed of being a model in New York, but once she got the opportunity did she really want to be there or in Possum Hollow, was all the bickering with Skeeter just that or was there something more between them, read this funny rom/com and find out.
Initially, Reeling in the Redneck starts off slow but as the story progresses the characters grow on you. My favorite scene is the fishing contest. In that moment, both characters lower their shields and we begin to root for the couple to unite. Aside from the slow start, my only complaint was it hat the ending felt rushed. As almost if the writer was reaching their max on page space and needed to end it quick.
I received this as an ARC for an honest review. This book was a little slow but funny once you got into it. Skeeter, Randi Lynn, and their friends were amusing, but it took me a while to get by the Southern stereotypes and I'm a Yankee. I'd think that Southerners might be offended. Still, it was cute and a fun read.
the story was entertaining however the characters in this book are all unintelligent undereducated hicks who barely speak English. As a native of Alabama I spent most of my time reading this tale in an irate state bordering on rage over the gross misrepresentation of me my family and my home state
Absolutely love this series about rednecks, although I’d think they were hillbillies. Absolutely love the extremely funny dialogue and humour and how the coyotes come together. Tickles the fancy with all the talk of diddling. Highly recommend.
