Photographer and animal trainer Barbara O’Brien has spent years photographing aspiring canine actors, from prancing puppies to stately hounds and tenacious terriers. At first, she discarded the photos if her subject was barking, sniffing, or otherwise looking less than perfect—until she realized that those outtakes best revealed the true personality of the pup.
O’Brien is a skilled and seasoned photographer, and this winsome collection shows the care she took to reveal each dog’s essential character. The goofiness of the boisterous Border Collie, the decorum of the genteel Great Dane, and the curiosity of the regal Corgi—all of them are captured here in gorgeous four-color photography.
What’s it about? This is a collection of photos from Barbara O’Brien, a photographer who took all kinds of nice pictures of all sorts of doggies!
Pros: The photography is very well done. All of these dogs are so cute! I couldn’t help but slightly think how nice it would be to be able to reach through the page and give each of them a hug! Another thing I like in this book is most of the facial expressions. Some look very happy to have their photo taken! There are some very funny ones too. I think most of the faces they made are so nice!
Why not 5 stars? Unfortunately, some of the dogs look sad or scared... which made me sad.
Overall: I like this book but the emotions are a tad much for me. Yes, I smiled, laughed and said “aww” various times but I also frowned, cried and said “why is that one sad” a few times. It is just pictures of dogs, not much actual reading so it’s pretty much designed to be something cute and quick to look at while snuggled up to your pupper under a warm blanket, just be ready for the emotions.
I saw this book at the store and it brought me immense happiness so I couldn't help but get it. I love this books so much and can't wait to flip through it again whenever I'm unhappy.
Barbara O'Brien has concocted a lovely little photo album of sweet, funny and touching doggie mugshots that just make you happy. What more could you ask for right now? Much appreciated!

Beautiful and happy portraits of dog faces. What a charming idea, it put a smile on my face. The dogs are so expressive. I always say, if you want to sell a book, put a dog on the cover. This book is full of dogs.
Another perfect Library book in the sense that once you've looked at about 50 very cute photos of dog faces you don't really need the book anymore. It could work a bit as a breed ID book because there's generally one photo per dog breed.
Photos taken by a photographer that specializes in portraits of dogs, there's page after page of the faces of dogs, taken up close. I loved mixed breed Tiko and Chief, but my very favorite was Echo, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
