When Devlin arrives late for the birth of Eloise O'Connor, he can't believe his best friend has taken over his position as her guardian angel. Though Devlin pleads with him to hand the child's guardianship back over to him, Nathaniel refuses. The two guardian angels have been friends for thousands of years, but after seeing how tiny and vulnerable the baby is after a difficult birth, Nathaniel isn't willing to risk her life with a tardy, irresponsible angel. Devlin's new obsession with fallen angels and sexy women seem to be affecting his judgment and Nathaniel believes he's planning to sell his soul, which would put Eloise in even more danger. Outraged, Devlin accuses Nathaniel of betrayal and threatens to guide Eloise with or without his approval. Though Nathaniel is devastated at the loss of their friendship, he battles with Devlin for years. As Eloise grows into a beautiful young woman, Nathaniel becomes even more vigilant, but when he discovers that Devlin’s found a way to communicate with her, he goes into a fit of rage he never though possible.
I was born in England and moved to Australia at the age of twelve. I had always dreamed of writing children’s stories, but due to childhood illnesses I missed an important part of my early schooling, and for some reason I slipped through the cracks. I didn't do very well at school and spent many hours outside the principal's office for disrupting the class. I left school at the age of fourteen to help look after my mother, who was ill at the time. As soon as I turned fifteen, I started working for a typewriter manufacturer in the city. My boss was a very kind and understanding man and he sent a typewriter to my home so that I could learn to type. I began writing about my childhood, but I had no idea where commas went, or even how to spell, so my stories were filed away.
I married at the age of seventeen, had a family, and then worked full time, but when I turned fifty, I helped my husband to build a brick house in the country. Once we'd finished, my husband bought me my first home computer. As I no longer had to work full time, I enrolled in an online IT course at TAFE. It took me over a year and I surprised myself with high marks. I then joined online writing and critique groups and learned as much as I could about writing for children. I spent every spare hour writing, reading and critiquing. I read and studied hundreds of children’s books and kept editing my stories until I felt confident to submit them.
My first story was my childhood memories turned into a fictitious children's adventure, which I called Star-Crossed Rascals.
I also volunteered for a wildlife rescue in Australia, and sometimes I add what I've learned about animals to my children's books. I also write New Adult Fantasy Romance and also Contemporary Romance.
So far, I have nine published books: Fallen Angel (Prequel to Nathaniel Teen Angel) Ominous Series Nathaneiel teen Angel (Book 1 Ominous Series) Ominous Love (Book 2 Ominous Series) Velvet Ball and The broken Fairy Molly Gumnut Rescues a Bandicoot Star-Crossed Rascals Rascals Sing at The Opera House. "But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face." - The Book of Job, 1:11
The fantastically titled Fallen Angel is a story of mid-length that introduces us to three principle characters. Nathaniel and Devlin, who are two angels in the stewardship of the Archangel Michael. There's also Eloise, a young girl they are supposed to protect. Indeed, after a friendship that has lasted thousands of years, this girl is the catalyst that threatens to break the friendship apart.
An angel is supposed to advise, guide, protect. But what happens when an angel's feelings are compromised to the extent that he has feelings for the one he is supposed to protect? Add to this the question of rogue elements within the other angel (I'll let you find out who) and well...all Hell is literally about to be let loose.
I really enjoyed this story. There were a couple of things that niggled me, but perhaps this was a good way to display the characters quirks. For example, Nathaniel and Devlin engage in some rather bratty talk, more akin to being irksome teenagers than superior-than-thou angels. They use some mild bad language too. The more I got into the story, I began to understand why they were created this way by the author. For me, angels perhaps speak more regally and grandiose, but this is my imagine, and not my book. So I applaud the author for taking the more untravelled route with her characters.
I really loved the descriptions of the respective angel's powers. You could literally feel what it was like to be whisked at super-speed into the air. The threat of having an angel's wings burned off for any infraction was real and realised - the author literally put me in their place and that was an uncomfortable place to be.
At times, I wondered what kind of genre this book would fit. Sometimes it felt like a children's story, at others, very New Adult. It crosses genres like fantasy, paranormal romance and thriller.
Some of the best books I have ever read defy genre - and this is perhaps one of them.
Despite its relatively short length, there is a lot going on here. The soul searching that the angels literally do is brilliantly done in a long (but never overlong) seen where the soul - not just the life of Eloise is in peril.
For me, the introduction of Eloise is where the story really starts. She adds a dangerous component to the story (through no fault of her own, I might add) and it makes for an engaging read.
Fallen Angel is a prequel that feels like a full length novel. It is perfectly paced and is a great introduction to this author's works.
This is the first book by Patricia Puddle I have read, but it is certainly not the last! It’s mostly about two angels fighting over the guardianship of a girl named Eloise. Although it’s a fantasy story about angels, Patricia’s depiction of temptation is surprisingly realistic, sometimes sad and often funny. The angel Nathaniel falls from grace without being truly evil. On the contrary, it seems that his innocence makes him more vulnerable and more likely to fall into Lucifer’s trap since he cannot even see it.
Nathaniel may be a timeless creature, but he also acts like an inexperienced teenage boy as far as his first romantic love is concerned. The fact that he has been guarding humans for thousands of years does not make him better equipped to guard himself when the right girl appears. Despite his best resolutions, certain impulses and reactions seem to be beyond his conscious control.
The author has done a great job in describing the process of losing innocence. Her descriptions are vivid and readable, the story itself is fascinating.
I am looking forward to reading the other books about this fallen angel. He seems to be punished for petty transgressions that are not even his fault. There may be a hidden message in Nathaniel’s story, because he is not the only one who may seem punished too harshly to us. Good Christians often ask why bad things are happening to them and whether they are punished for the first sin and fall. But perhaps we are not really punished when we fall when making our clumsy steps -- perhaps we all need to fall in order to learn to walk on our own. Just like small children. Maybe the fallen angel from this book will end up richer and wiser because of his fall. He will be able to better understand human pain, love and many other things angels know merely as observers.
Fallen Angel: Prequel is a thoroughly good read to what I imagine to be a great series from Patricia Puddle. She tells us the history of the main characters and what is to come in future books so concisely it was a pleasurable, interesting and compulsive read.
This genre is way off the mark from what I normally read so I was glad to have had the opportunity to read a prequel and I am now hooked and will be an avid reader of the series AND Patricia Puddle.
Her writing style flows and she is able to manipulate, through good narrative and dialogue, how slow or fast the pace is. Fallen Angel was a treat to read.
This was a thoroughly entertaining read. I find that I'm really loving the angel genre. It isn't completely overdone line werewolves or vampires so there's still quite a bit of originality and lacks the cliches of the former types of stories.
This one definitely fit the originality bill. Nathaniel and Devlin are guardian angels and best friends, but lately Devlin is being tempted by the pleasures of humanity - mainly girls, which leaves him vulnerable to Lucifer's persuasions. When he neglects his duties, Nathaniel is ordered to take on a new ward, effectively ending the friendship between the two angels. Only, this is no ordinary ward.
After watching over her for eighteen years, Nathaniel is faced with what he feared all along. Devlin is back and Lucifer wants his wants the girl's soul. Nathaniel will do anything to protect her, but there are things he must deal with before the consequences catch up to him, forcing him to leave her on her own.
Talk about your forbidden love. The conflict inside of Nathaniel is so real that I could feel his turbulent emotions. I was rooting for him so hard by the end and truly felt for him. This is definitely a page turner. I had trouble putting it down. I was thankful that there wasn't a ton of description or info dumps because it kept the story moving along and I never once felt the need to skim. That's saying a lot for me. I can't wait to read the rest of the story.
I thought Ominous Angel was an amazing book, and worried that the prequel would end up confusing things. I've always struggled when I see or read prequels because sometimes they just don't make sense. Patricia doesn't let her readers down though. Fallen Angel is yet another amazing book, and it's so wonderful to find out more about the characters and why things were as they were in Ominous Love. Everything made sense, and you get to see a different side to all the characters. You could even be forgiven for feeling a little sorry for the 'evil' character, not for long though :)
Again this was another book I couldn't put down until I finished it, and sadly now I have to wait for the next book in the series....I don't like waiting, especially when I am sure the next book will be as good, if not better than the first two I have already read!
I loved Nathaniel in Ominous Love, and loved him even more in this prequel! We get the history behind Nathaniel and Devlin's friendship and Nathaniel's promise to keep Eloise safe. But then something happens to Nathaniel and sparks fly between him and Eloise. But Nate knows the consequences of human/angel interaction. Nate must battle between his desire for Eloise and protecting her, especially when his arch nemesis is out to take back what he thinks is rightfully his.
Had I not read Ominous and read this first, this would totally have me one clicking.
Fallen Angel is . . . I don't know, it's exciting, brought lots of smiles and LOL moments out of me and just enough steam to keep me glued to my kindle. It drew me in and I loved every single page! Now if Ms. Puddle would get that third book to this series out!! <--hint, hint ;) I can't wait to read it!
Nathaniel is summoned to be a new baby’s guardian when Devlin, who was originally assigned to her, doesn’t turn up or the birth. Eloise is special as her grandfather was a fallen angel. When Devlin turns up he threatens to steal Eloise if he can’t be her guardian. Nathaniel watches over her night and day determined to protect her against all evil.
Paranormal/Angels isn’t something I generally read and I Found I really enjoyed the story of Nathaniel and how he became Eloise’s guardian. Nathaniel is so sincere and honestly my heart went out to him when he describes his loneliness. He always has Eloise’s best interest at heart. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to see how things work out for Nathaniel.
I've read Ominous Love. So, when I saw Fallen Angel, the Prequel is out, I had to grab my copy! The author definitely didn't disappoint me! Another wonderful, amazing, and hot story!!!! Bravo to the author for doing a great job! To all who love romance especially paranormal/Angelic romance, this one's for you! You won't regret it!
This book was absolutely amazing! It drew me in right from the start and had me hanging on to the edge of my seat until the very end! Well written, it's characters are realistic in so many ways and the scenes are so well written that you don't just see images in your head, you are right there in the book with the characters!
Who doesn't love a good looking guardian angel with morals? Or even one without? Nathaniel and Devlin are best friends, have been for thousands of years but Devlin has been far too interested in fallen angels. This book is definitely a fantastic way to start a series. Can't wait to read the rest
I enjoyed this quick read, as the prequel to Nathaniel Teen Angel I thought I would read this one first.. A great introduction to characters and storyline.. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author and more in the Ominous Series.. I do love a good Angel story..
Guardian angels, love and romance, good and evil, and demons too ... Utterly Delightful!
Being a little on the wrong side of middle-age I'm only an occasional reader of YA/romance type books, and I read Fallen angel based on reviews and personal recommendation. Apart from the barechested covers for the series, I found the first instalment of this three book series an absolute delight.
This first part of the trilogy lays the foundation for a wider and ongoing story, so in that sense, it can't really be called a stand-alone book, with the second pretty much following on directly where Book One finishes. It draws on Christianity and Catholicism as a framework for the characters, and also the idea of angels and demons, the devil, and other such lofty issues as good and evil. Centred around a battle for the guardianship and soul of a newborn baby girl, Eloise (and later on, the lovely young woman Eloise will become), the eternal friendship of two angels is put to the test. Both are willing to risk their heavenly immortality and angelic status for Eloise, albeit for different reasons.
The idea of 'angels' watching over us, and to some extent being much like regular people, enjoying friendships, having a job to do (and time off), and being answerable to God etc put me in mind of Michael Landon's Highway to Heaven TV series with its gentle tongue in cheek style and humour. Like more contemporary themes/genres, it explores more earthly concepts such as temptation, lust, loyalty, friendship, rivalry and jealousy. There's lots of good dialogue that gives the story quite a swift pace with lots going on. I found the style of writing enjoyable, and more importantly, very 'readable' in that it wasn't bogged down with lots of irrelevant subplots or info dumping.
Overall, a quick and easy read, and delightfully entertaining. I've already started on Book Two even before writing this review (a first for me). Highly recommended!
I found myself smile often as I read this entertaining tale. My regular reading material covers a wide spectrum, but is far removed from this genre. I do occasionally enjoy checking out something new, but I have to admit, the only angels I’ve read about, or indeed written about, have been those wearing leather and riding Harleys. Here is a modern fantasy of temptation, honour, friendship, deceit, romance, lust, and so much more. As you might expect, where there is good, there is evil, and the author has done a fine job of introducing both, and the level of friction when they are brought to bear on each other. The characters are well-crafted and the plot develops with a rapid pace. Given the context of the tale, the dialogue is an important aspect and it too is treated well. Do I have any regrets about reading this story? Yes, but it’s merely that I’m not a young adult, or even a middle-aged adult … people don’t live to 130. My point is that the story is aimed at a younger generation, but is worth a read whatever your age. The premise of a ‘prequel’ is a relatively new idea to me, and I’ve never read one previously. I imagined it doing what it suggested - creating a foundation for a series. If this is a taste of what is to come, Ms Puddle has invested her time well; I’ll be checking out the next story in line.
I believe that The Good Lord gave us a sense of humour on purpose. He knew how difficult it would be to face the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" that were coming our way. So what better survival tool than a sense of humour? And hasn't it been said often enough that laughter is the best medicine? It is obvious from reading this book that the author and her creations have an excellent sense of humour. A sophisticated one. So they are doing nothing more than making full use of a God-given gift. One of the main reasons why we find it easy to believe in angels is because they are so much like human beings, and Devlin is nothing more and nothing less than a reflection of an amusing, very human, human being. If, in the hereafter, I could achieve even a fraction of the heady freedom and abilities that Devlin possesses, well, I can hardly wait! I mean, who wouldn't want to skyrocket over the Pacific Ocean at night! I love this writer's zany sense of humour which, coupled by a fertile imagination makes the narrative soar to all the heights that Devlin could ever hope to reach using his "dusky wings"! And I've always fancied the idea of guardian angels. It's also a great idea to suppose that the male angel could fall in love with a female human being to an extent when he would want to be her protector for evermore! A thoroughly enjoyable read!
Fallen Angel is the Prequel to Nathaniel Teen Angel. I wrote it after some readers asked for more history on the two Guardian Angels.
When Devlin arrives late for the birth of Eloise O’Conner, he can’t believe his best friend has taken over his position as her guardian angel. Though Devlin pleads with him to hand the child’s guardianship back over to him, Nathaniel refuses. The two angels have been friends for thousands of years, but after seeing how sick and vulnerable the baby is after a difficult birth, Nathaniel isn't willing to risk her life with a tardy, irresponsible angel. Devlin’s new obsession with fallen angels and sexy women seem to be affecting his judgement and Nathaniel believes he’ll be too distracted to guard Eloise. Outraged, Devlin accuses Nathaniel of betrayal and threatens to guide Eloise, with or without his approval. After eighteen years of loneliness and missing his best friend, Nathaniel hopes Devlin will come to his senses and visit him, but the day Devlin arrives, the battle of the two angels begins.

Its just a great and astonishing book! It left me so curious about angel and fallen angels even more then before hush hush. I need more. I am so reading the others. I loved it and I am pretty sure that if you like Angels so will you.
