REVIEW: FORGIVEN is the second instalment in Carly Fall’s adult, contemporary, paranormal Angels of Affection romance series. This is Liam and Adela’s story-one that began in the first book Betrayed. Liam and Adela are former Angels of Death who have been reassigned as Angels of Affection. Their latest assignment brings them to the wintery woods of Lake Tahoe. When another former Angel of Death is reassigned with the couple, jealousy and anger will push Liam over the edge.

The premise follows Liam and Adela as they hope to uncover who it is they are supposed to target for love. As Angels of Affection their duty is to match up lovers but in this the instructions and information are never clear. Thinking their targets are the quarreling couple next door, Liam and Adela will soon discover that they are so far off base is it any wonder they are failing at every turn. It is only when Liam is sentenced for a crime against the Inner Circle of Heaven does he realize the who and why of their assignment.

The relationship between Liam and Adela is coworkers to friends to lovers. Adela has been an Angel of Death for over three hundred years and acclimating herself into the 21st century has been difficult. With only five years as a heavenly angel to his credit, Liam is both Adela’s teacher in the new world and her lover but adding a another male into the mix doesn’t bode well for our couple as Liam’s jealousy will destroy any semblance of humanity our couple have endured. When Liam pushes Adela away she will petition the higher court for a new assignment. When an accident forces Liam to make a questionable decision, Adela sees red and pushes Liam away one last time.

Carly Fall has written an compelling storyline about angels and humanity; jealousy and love; sorrow and forgiveness. Liam must first be forgiven for the sins of his past before he is able to forgive himself. In this, Liam will come full circle when he faces the mortality of the woman with whom he has fallen in love.

The secondary characters (Gunner) are colorful. Gunner is a former Viking who dispels any of Liam’s attempts to classify the Vikings as Neanderthals and inhuman. Gunner needs a storyline-someone he can love and protect-and I hope Carly will continue the Angels of Affection series.

FORGIVEN is a seductive story. Written from third person POV, the reader is pulled into a tale of romance where two people are unable to see the proverbial forest for the trees; where the power of forgiveness can release the frozen heart; and where love has the ability to free a captured soul.

Actual rating: 3.5 Stars.

Forgiven is the second book in the Angels of Affection series and it continues on from where Betrayed leaves off. I liked this book a lot more than Betrayed. I do have a few things that bothered me, and that prevented me from rating it higher, but by the end I did like it. I’m not going to write a summary as I think you need to go into this book with as little knowledge as possible to enjoy it fully.

The book started out on shaky ground for me. We get quite a detailed summary of things that happened in the first book, and this would be extremely beneficial if you have a gap between reading both books. The down side to this is if you’ve read the first book recently or are reading both back-to-back, everything is already familiar.

I’ve said this several times, both in reviews and elsewhere: I really don’t like repetitiveness in my books, more specifically back-tracking. Unfortunately, for my tastes, the writing style is a bit too prone to back-tracking and it gets under my skin all too often. I find myself rolling my eyes and thinking, “Yeah, I already know this!”

Just after the half-way point, I really began liking the story. Things progressed a lot quicker in Forgiven, and it was a welcome change of pace. The ground work was taken care of in Betrayed, and we could move forward with the story. Part of me feels if both books were incorporated into one, I might have enjoyed it better – minus the back-tracking ;)

When Gunnar appeared in the novel, I was dreading a love-triangle forming. That really would have been a big negative, and thankfully, it did not occur. This book focused on Liam and Adela and establishing them as characters, and exploring their feelings that have built since the first book. I liked the way this progressed and how it was handled. It felt like a natural progression which is a big plus. I liked both Liam and Adela a lot more that I had previously, and I feel we actually got to see them a bit clearer as they are now, without having to establish a background.

Out of the two books in the series, I prefer Forgiven. Both the main and supporting characters appealed to me more, and the story flowed a lot better. It was easy to see what was going to happen, so there weren’t any real surprises, but I did enjoy what happened and the ending suited the story. I will be honest; my hang up with both books is the writing style. It’s not really my cuppa, but if you have read the authors other books and liked them, I think you’ll love this series also.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Forgiven is the second installment in Carly Fall's exciting Angels of Affection series. After reading the first book Betrayed and enjoying it thoroughly, I couldn't wait to lose myself in Liam and Adela’s story once again and I was not disappointed.

Liam and Adela are on a their second mission as newly appointed Angels of Affection, trying to bring love to the world and stomp out the hate and evil. Throughout this book we witness Liam fight his feelings for Adela and deny himself the happiness he things he doesn't deserve. Liam goes on a personal journey throughout the book fighting a whole bunch of emotions including jealousy, guilt, lust and love.

I love how Adela and Liam's relationship developed and blossomed throughout the story. The addition of Gunner to the story was welcomed and I enjoyed seeing the relationship dynamics change. I would love to read about Gunner in further books, I think he deserves his own happy ending!

Forgiven is a beautifully written book, full of interesting characters and a unique story line. Carly Fall has created a world I love and want to know more about. I really enjoyed going on the journey with Adela and Liam as they try to make the world a better place and find themselves along the way. I look forward to reading more from Carly Fall in the future.

I absolutely loved Forgiven. The next assignment for Liam and Adela takes them to snowy Lake Tahoe. They are told a third angel will join them. They have developed a rapport with each other and neither is happy about another angel being around. Liam is developing feelings for Adela but he pushes her away because of his past. Even though he doesn't feel he can be with her he is extremely jealous of the new angel in the group. Adela is having trouble adjusting to Earth's current society. Tragedy ensues and Liam has to make a decision quickly. How will Adela handle it when she finds out what Liam has done? It's a must read to get the answer.

In Forgiven, Liam and Adela are back in their roles of Angels of Affection and this assignment brings them to a secluded cabin in the winter at Lake Tahoe. Their assignment this time seems pretty much cut and dried; they only seem to have one couple living next door who have a very volatile relationship. Along with a surprise third party added to their team, the reluctant Angels of Affection must find a way to bring more love to the world and try to avoid letting hate and evil win. This seems to be the conclusion of the series and I'm sad to see it end!
