Cowboy Way #1

Just Shoot Me

Rate this book
This is book one of a new series called The Cowboy Way, by Becky McGraw, author of the Texas Trouble series. The series is a spinoff from her novella Hope for Christmas, which was included in the anthology SANTA WORE SPURS and is still available on Amazon.com. The Cowboy Way series is a little funnier, a lot hotter and somewhat more intimate without the action/suspense that is included in her bestselling Texas Trouble series.

*******JUST SHOOT ME (#1, Cowboy Way)*******
Tina Montgomery needs to find her Texas Tomcat. Her promotion and livelihood depend on it. That promotion could mean a new life for her, her sister and her niece. It's a big risk however, because if she fails in her bid to head up a new menswear line at her company, she could lose everything. That's why finding the perfect model to represent the line has become her sole focus. At the point of thinking she would never find that man, one with both experience and attitude that shows in his face and eyes, she meets Dean Dixon. His gorgeous eyes tell a story she definitely wants to hear and the man has more attitude than any she’s ever met. Physically he's perfect for the job. But that attitude she thought she wanted in her cowboy quickly becomes her biggest downfall when she tries to convince the sexy, but hard-hearted rancher to help her.

Dean Dixon is done with women. His cheating ex-wife has shown him just how untrustworthy women are. He has a ranch to run, and a son who might not be his to raise alone. That's more than enough for any man to handle without dealing with his sister-in-law’s friend who is determined to convince him to model for her company. He has seen what that industry has done to his brother. Dean is a rancher, not a model, and he isn't about to abandon his family or fall into the same trap his brother had. He stands his ground, until his sister-in-law tells him why Tina needs the promotion she’s wanting so badly, and asks for his help. Hope had bailed him and his family out when they needed her the year prior. How could he refuse to help her now?

Of all the pretty men, yes I said pretty, and not one fits Tina's image of a real cowboy. She's looking for a real cowboy to represent her vision of the “Texas Tomcat”. She has a lot riding on this project and she needs the promotion that will come with the success it. In-between her demanding job and taking care of her niece, she's running out of fuel.

Tina’s friend Hope thinks a little getaway to the countryside, to the Dixon ranch to be more precise, will do her some good. The ranch is run by Hope’s husband's family. To make her offer even more appealing she throws in why Tina can’t combine the getaway with her work, the ranch is the perfect location for the Texas Tomcat shootings. So Tina agrees.

That’s where she meets Dean, Hope's brother-in-law, she finds him in the barn with his pants down rubbing his injured thigh and…okay who wouldn’t sneak a peak….just me?…oh....

“I’m here to see Hope too,” Tina clarified. When he flinched, her eyes fell to the hand on his

thigh, he moved it and Tina saw a dark purple bruise beneath his fingers. Against her will, her eyes darted to the impressive goods those tight white underwear of his was trying to contain.

He cleared his throat, her eyes flew back to his and her cheeks heated. One side of his firm mouth kicked up into a cocky smile. “See something you like, buttercup?”

Dean is less than unhappy to see her. He pretty much barks at her to leave or he will start doing some shooting of his own. And his version of shooting doesn’t involve a camera. Unfortunately for him Tina sees her Texas Tomcat in him and tries her hardest to convince him to let them shoot him. Real cowboy he may be but the man has some serious mood swings. Grumpy bear of a man is all kinds of bitter due to his ex wife. No way he wants to pose as a model. He has better, more important business to attend to.

I really liked reading Dean and Tina’s story. They’re both hardworking people who just can’t seem to catch a break. It’s no easy feat to raise a child with such a demanding job as Tina’s but she still manages to do it. I did wonder what Tina’s sister thought of it all, then again we don't hear much from her nor does she sound like a caring mother...So no sympathy for her...

Dean is a hard man who lives up to his responsibilities. The stubborn man sometimes takes it too far and doesn’t let anyone in to help unburden him with his troubles. He's also a little jealous of his brother’s wife. He wonders why he couldn’t have married a woman like her. Then when he meets Tina that thought still lingers a bit and it made me wonder if he would be able to let that part of him go.

I didn't wonder long because where no one dares to call him on his attitude, Tina has no problem doing so. And that trait of hers unleashes Dean's carefree side.

“Do you ride?” Dean asked when Tina’s laughter subsided.

“As in horses?” she replied and her eyes shot to Blaze.

“Unless you want me to saddle up a chicken for you?” he teased and Tina’s eyes widened. “That could definitely be arranged.”

I think you may understand what Mr. Dean means here, but if you don’t….am not going to spoil it for you. Needless to say I love the humor in this book, and when certain things come out of the mouth of babes it could make a grown woman turn red. Personally I love grumpy heroes and Dean is no exception, just like him the story isn’t flawless but it’s still a good read without too much drama but whole lot of cowboy charm....grumpy charm...

Dean Dixon is an angry man. His wife cheated on him and left him with their four year old son and went with her boyfriend. Tina is in advertising and she is looking for the perfect cowboy for her ad. She is presently raising her niece because her sister is always running off with different cowboys and leaving her daughter with Tina. Tina is going tho the Dixon ranch for the weekend, because her friend is married to Cord Dixon, which is Dean's brother. When Tina sees Dean she feels he would be perfect for her ad, but he wants nothing to do with her or her ad. When they meet it is like instant fire. They rub each other the wrong way, but Tina still finds him interesting. During a campfire that weekend she approaches a drunk Cord after he has an altercation with his ex wife and her new husband. Tina and Dean get together for a night of passion. Tina then goes back to her work thinking Dean doesn't care much about her other than a one night stand. The Dixon ranch is in financial trouble and they are thinking of ways to make some money. Cord explains to Dean that models make $1000 an hour. He is of course shocked and he agrees to do the shoot. That weekend it rains all weekend so they can't do the pictures. Dean was showing Tina where the best spot to take the pictures was at when it started raining so he takes her to a cabin where they stay have an argument. Tina calls Cord to come get her and he does. She goes back to the city. Dean's wife is suing for custody of their son. The lawyer suggests that if he was married he would have a easier time. Dean goes to Tina's apartment and suggests they get married. They do and boy do the sparks fly. You have to read this one so you can find out what happens. There is still a lot to this book and you will love it.

The first story I ever read by Becky McGraw was Hope for Christmas, a novella from the Santa Wore Spurs collection. I loved the hero of that story Cord Dixon but it was his brother that really intrigued me. When I found out that Mr. Cranky Pants would have his own story, I couldn’t have been more excited.

In the second of McGraw’s new series, The Cowboy Way, pint sized Tina Montgomery visits the Dixon ranch in the hopes of doing a cowboy photo shoot, and get a killer promotion that she desperately needs. Tina has a young niece to take care of and hopes to ultimately adopt her.

After Dean’s cheating wife leaves him to raise a son alone, he has no time for women or a life. His heart is in pieces and he neither wants nor cares to have it put back together. When Dean’s ex-wife sues for custody, he is just steps away from saying ‘Just Shoot Me’. That is, until a tiny, hotter than a pistol, woman in high heels, steps into his life and turns things upside down. Is she the one to put his life back together or is she just another woman out to ruin his life?

I LOVED story! It kept me guessing till the end and I absolutely loved all of the characters. I will definitely be looking for the next installment of The Cowboy Way and I will never look at cherry cobbler in the same way again.

3.5 stars, i thought it would be a light hearted read, girl wants grumpy guy to be a model, guy resists then relents, they fall in love...,well it starts like that Tina does want Dean to model for her, but that's the only thing that's the same. Dean is grumpy or should I say Mr Cranky-pants, like proper grumpy, Tina is a little spitfire of a women who doesn't take crap, which is a good thing as Dean does throw a lot of attitude at her. They both have huge responsibilities looking after two young children and worrying about money. Now this is where the drama comes in, custody battles, lawyers, nightmare ex's, a lot of harsh words spoken and a lot of patience on Tina's part, the story surprised me where it went but it worked, I loved that Dean didn't magically change he was still gruff but in a softer way, also he was quite kinky, well I guess you do get ideas tying up cattle and all...

I have to say this was an enjoyable read, until the silly ending, which I thought was dumb. I first met Dean in the "Hope for Christmas" short story in Santa Wore Spurs book. Even though, he only was a minor character in that book, you knew Dean was an angry man with deep scares from his ex-wife.
In this book, Dean meets Tina, whom is a friend of his sister-in-law.
On the surface, it does not appear Dean and Tina have much in common, one is nice and the other is not. They really don't care for each other, yet they can not deny there is an underlining sexual tension between them. It is not long, before you discover these two people's lives are very similar. Each of them are raising a child, and receiving no help from these kids' mothers. They are each at a major crossroad when it comes to their professions. They are also both faced with major legal issues involving the children. To top it off, neither has been in a sexual relationship in over 3 years.
So when these two finally give into the sexual tension, there are Fireworks for them both. They come together out of desperation and the author does an excellent job with creating the mood for their first night together. It really is a pretty special and steamy scene.
The book mostly follows the typical path of these types of romances. They meet, fall into bed, have regrets, hide their true feelings, and then start to really fall for each other. Of course, Dean being Dean, he blows it. Will their relationship be able to move past the mean words Dean said to Tina?
This book contained two very embarrassing and yet funny situations. One involved a horseback ride and the other a private moment interrupted. What I did not like, was the silly ending. I though the author could have done such a better job with the conclusion of this story.,

*book gifted in return for honest review*
CLIMB IN THE SADDLE AND GET READY FOR A RIDE!
Reading this book has taught me something- Cowboys & Men are two totally different breeds. I have always batted for the sexy CEO team and honestly, I wasn't sure if cowboys would be my thing; boy was I wrong I.HAVE.BEEN.CONVERTED - hallelujah!!!!

This is the story of brooding, cranky but sexy as hell alpha Cowboy Dean Dixon, who is struggling with raising his son after his cheating ex-wife took off leaving him bereft and bitter. He is emotionally shut off from everyone around him and bides his time with the back breaking work of running a ranch. His family tiptoe around him enabling him to continue to wallow in his misery - which is just fine by him until he meets her.

Straight shooter Tina Montgomery is a sassy, strong, pint-sized & beautiful advertising exec with baggage of her own. In order to get the promotion she so desperately needs to provide a better life for her sister and her niece, she needs to find the perfect model to be the next Texas Tomcat for an upcoming jeans campaign. She almost all but abandons hope of finding her real life Cowboy until she meets Dean- Aka MR Crankypants.

She is exasperated by his rude and abrasive demeanour but the electricity between them is undeniable. He is everything she has been looking for. He embodies the authentic, rugged sexy look she needs, and now that she has seen him she knows no one else will do. The question is can she convince this complicated, moody Cowboy to help her?

WOW...Just wow. This story had me laughing, fanning myself, wringing my hands & cheering. Dean & Tina are magic together and the love that grows between them becomes the ultimate balm Dean needs to finally face the demons of his past.

I'd wear Dean's Cowboy hat any day of the week!

I haven't read a lot of cowboy stories before but after this one I believe that may well change! This is the first of this authors books I have read but it won't be the last.

Dean Dixon is such a strong character. He has an extremely bad attitude, especially towards women. But once we learn a little more about him it is obvious why that attitude has become a huge part of him. He is a hard worker though, trying to save the family ranch from failure. He constantly seems to butt heads with his brother, but he has the best interests of his family at heart always.

As hot headed and determined as Dean is, he definitely meets his match in Tina Montgomery. Boy does she have attitude in bucket loads! She knows what she wants and she will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. She is not only trying to gain a promotion, she is trying to provide a stable upbringing for her niece. It looks set to fail, however, if she can't get Dean onside.

What happens when two hot headed, determined characters bash heads? Read this story to find out, you won't be disappointed.

Both Dean and Tina have similar responsibilities, but finding those out will prove difficult for them as they continue to wind each other up. Obstacles, as always, are thrown in their way constantly, so they both need to dig deep within themselves to get through it.

This is a well written, funny story which definitely held my attention.

Becky McGraw
What a read! Becky McGraw takes this new adventure into a more emotional and humor filled series and rocks it!

Tina Montgomery needs to find the perfect man to be the spokesman for her Texas Tomcat menswear line but not just any man will do. She wants a real cowboy with attitude and experience and just when she thinks she won’t be able to find him, she meets Dean Dixon.

Dean Dixon has his hands full with a ranch to run and a son to raise and has no time for miss Tina Montgomery who is convinced he is the perfect man to model for Texas Tomcat. But Dean is jaded after his cheating ex-wife showed him how much he can’t trust women.

Two people couldn’t be more stubborn or need each other as much as Tina and Dean do. A unique beginning to what is an interesting ride, Just Shoot Me has characters who you will love and a plot line you just can’t help but get immersed in!

Becky McGraw, sure knows how to bring a cowboy to life in a book! Dean Dixon is a hot, hunk of a cowboy, but he is also a very angry man. His ex-wife did him wrong, which resulted in him being a very bitter man. Tina Montgomery, works for an advertising agency, and she is in search of a man to be her "Texas Tomcat", a model for a new menswear line for the company she works for. Tina's friend Hope is married to Dean's brother Cord, and Tina meets him when she goes to visit Hope. It does not take long before Dean unleashes his wrath on Tina, but even with that, she knows she has met her Texas Tomcat. Trouble is, can she talk him into it? This book was great, with romance, love, humor, and real life drama. Dean has a son and Tina is raising her sisters daughter, and the kids add a lot of fun and mischief also. There were parts in this book that had me laughing out loud, and parts that made me cry. If you love sexy cowboys, sassy ladies that know how to tame them, and family and friends, this book is for you.

Sassy, Sexy & Fun, This book has it all!

I was already a fan of Becky McGraw's Texas Trouble series so getting a chance to review her new spin off book had me excited., and she didn't disappoint me.

If you'r looking for a book that has a little something for everyone then you really need to pick up a copt of Just Shoot Me by Becky McGraw. Becky does it again with her sassy and fun storytelling that has some seriously funny and emotional parts thrown in with Dean and Tina's story.

Dean starts out the kind of guy you just want to smack in the back of the head with his cranky behavior, but you will end up loving him. I could sit here and list many things I like about this story, but trust me that you need to read it for yourself.

Congratulations Becky McGraw on the start of what looks to be another series that will take it off the charts.

I loved this book. Loved it! It was perfect or maybe just what I was looking for at the moment but it was pure perfection. Loved Mr. Cranky Pants and Tina. They were perfect for each other. They soothed each other and brought out the best in each other. That is the way a relationship should work. They weren't afraid to get in there and fight it out when necessary. The brooding single father who needed a little guidance when raising a son that wasn't his. The woman who willing cared for a child who wasn't her. They were the perfect example of why you don't have to birth a child to love a child. Sure Mr. Cranky Pants took some time to come around but he did come around and that is always the important part. Did I mentioned I loved this book?

Exceptional and Entertaining Romance

Dean and Tinas love story was very entertaining. I really enjoyed it, at one point I was laughing as I was reading and my husband just looked at me and thought I was crazy, I tried explaining what I was laughing at and he just didn't get it. I had a hard time putting this down. I winded up staying up late at night trying to find out what would happen next.
There are some really hot scenes also that made me happy! I recommend this to everyone, you won't be disappointed at all. I have read some of Becky's books before, and I have enjoyed them also but this one is exceptional.

Becky McGraw had me at Cranky Pants, which just happens to be the nickname I give my husband sometimes. Beyond that, the characters are well developed and have real problems that face normal people, which is refreshing in the romance genre that tends leans towards characters with money. It’s hard not to love spunky Tina, and curt Dean grew on me quickly too with his love for his son and family.

This isn’t just a cowboy story. This is a story about family, parenthood, and love.

I struggled though half this story but could not take the hero's meanness any more. He hates everything and adding negative events just made him worse. I skipped a few chapters, read a little, more negative events, then read the last chapter. Tina needs to find the perfect cowboy for an ad campaign and finds Dean when she visits her friend at their ranch.

I really liked this except for one thing

I liked the characters and the setting, and I really liked Cord and Hope, but I didn't like the way he decided she should marry him to take care of both their problems. And I really didn't like how the last theme pages were printed twice.

Dean sure has cranky down to a fine art. Carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, he doesn't feel listened to. When Tina arrives at the ranch, she tells him a few home truths about the way he is treating those around him. I loved the fire between these two and the push and pull between them as they verbally spar. This was a really good read.

I stopped at chapter 12

I couldn't stand Dean. He was a grumpy asshole with no redeeming qualities.

I especially hated the way he treated his son. He never really interacted with him and was always mean to him. I honestly felt hurt for the boy.

Be an asshole to all, but not your child.

This is my first reading a Becky Mcgraw book and I must say that I immensely enjoyed reading it. Those random acts of getting a book is really a good thing sometimes.

What I like best about this book aside from the hot cowboy Dean, is the humor. I know most people who read romance is all for the romance and the hotness of this possible book boyfriends but book humor always gets me. I really think Tina and Dean complement each other very well. Tina being the fun part of the story and Dean being the grumpy and cranky part but I’d say very forgivable being the hotness that he is.

Story wise, I like that this story is not just about romance but also about family. I was deeply touched with the unselfish love Tina has for her niece and Dean’s tremendous love for the son that’s not even his biologically. It shows what real family is made of and how real friends are to each other in times of trouble.

The part where Jeremy was telling everybody about his Dad and the chicken really cracked me up. He was really too cute and I can imagine him while reading about it that I want to go inside the book and pinch his cheeks. Mr. Cranky Pants a.k.a. Dean’s reactions to situations either always had me laughing or annoyed. However, annoying as he is sometimes, I like how he tries to make up for it. And really, seeing that his plate is full and there’s so much he needs to handl, I kind of think he’s reactions are understandable.

Usually, it’s the hero that get us hooked into reading a romance book but in this case for me it’s Tina. I was looking forward and even eager on what she’s about to do next. How he get Dean to model for him, the way things turned about in the lake, how the job promotion turned to something unexpected… I learned to admire her character throughout all that. And I think any guy seeing all that has no choice but to fall in love with her. And I love how Tina never second guess herself when it comes to giving Dean a piece of her mind when it comes to his family and Jeremy. Even the condom thing cracked me up although I hate how Dean reacted into it.

Hope and Cord was something I enjoyed reading about too and I’m definitely looking forward to reading their own story (if there isn’t one yet). I can see how much Hope loves Cord and that really made me curious about their story, how they fell in love with each other and how they ended up together.

However I love the chemistry between Dean and Tina, I’d say my favorite characters are Laney and Jeremy. This book wouldn’t be as it is without the two of them. The drama and the humor that these little kids brought to the story was like icing on the cake. Specially that part where Jeremy spent the night with her mom.

Except for the Epilogue, I’d say this is one of the cowboy stories that I enjoyed reading the most. Will definitely look forward to the next installment of the series.

Dean Dixon is a prickly hard to approach cowboy with ruggedly good looks. Tina Montgomery is a dynamite personality packed into a tiny womanly body. Their first meeting is a clash of tempers and temptation and they only heat up from there. Dean is overworked and stressed. He can't seem to say the right thing or find the kind of money his ranch needs to keep running. He would rather be shot than model for the tiny temptress but financially he is between a rock and a hard place. So he reluctantly agrees to be her model in hopes that he could save his family home and protect it for his son.

Tina might be short but she packs a lot of feisty into her small frame. She has found herself the sole provider for her niece Laney, thanks to a cowboy crazy sister, and she finds herself dependent on her job and her idea for the perfect campaign for a line of men's clothing. Every male model she looks at comes across too polished and not rugged enough. She has an idea in her mind and nothing short of perfect will do. Her friend Hope invites her down to her husbands ranch and she finds everything she imagined when she pictured her cowboy. He was perfect until he opened his mouth.

Their first meeting was a mixture of anger and desire and both are determined to avoid the other. Eventually they get past their anger and get to the smoking hot sex. They spend an evening together and use a roll of condoms but even that tension relief isn't enough for Mr. Cranky Pants. He finds himself seeing her again and again and with every meeting his need for her takes over.

Becky McGraw has written a well rounded romance. This book is full of tension, chemistry, familial love and devotion. This book captures and keeps the readers attention as Tina and Dean tackle their growing relationship and family matters. They push each others buttons and enjoy pissing each other off. But their is just something about the other person that keeps them trying even when it would be so much easier to give up. This book shows the reader a great family love and it drives the story forward. Both characters are devoted to their family and trying to do whatever they can for their children. This book leaves you smiling and not hung over. This book is the type of romance that leaves you with a glow and a hope for your own life. And the fact that the male character is a sexy cowboy with a dirty mouth and a bit of a temper? Well who wouldn't want to spend a little while in his world?

this definitely not your typical romance. Dean is all cowboy and with a major chip on his shoulder. Tina is definitely a city girl that works hard but always sees the good in everything. it was hard for me to see how and where these two connected with his f bomb drops and nasty attitude and I felt they got married for all the wrong reasons. but to eachs own. I really enjoyed it more towards the end with Dean loosened up more.

Series: Cowboy Way #1
Category /Genre: Contemporary romance
Received from: Amazon purchase
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Grammar/editing: A – near perfect

This is the first book in the Cowboy Way series. They do need to be read in order. This is considered to be a spinoff from the novella Hope for Christmas in the Santa Wore Spurs anthology.

In order to buy a house and provide for her sister and niece, Tina needs to get a promotion. To get the promotion, she needs the right model for the new line of western wear she has championed at work. Enter Dean Dixon, rancher. His sister-in-law is the photographer, his brother was a model, but Dean wants nothing to do with the fashion world. Mr. Grumpy Pants would rather the bunch of them just clear off his ranch, but he knows the family needs the money being offered for the use of the land.

I loved the characters. I loved the story. I loved that these were down-to-earth, living a real life people instead of everyone being a millionaire. Dean’s tantrums were a little over-the-top for a macho, alpha cowboy, but somewhat understandable in light of his history. I was up until 3am because I just had to know how everything was resolved.

This is the first book that I have read from Ms. McGraw. Unfortunately, most of the way through the book, I felt as though I had missed a whole other part to the story. I believe I would have been less lost had I read the short HOPE FOR CHRISTMAS about Dean’s brother Cord and his wife, Hope. Other than that, I thought this was an exceptionally well-written cowboy romance and I do want to read more from Ms. McGraw.

Wow. Becky McGraw has done it again. This was a fantastic read. I think I feel in love with a very rude hot cowboy named Dean Dixon. Oh and also the lead lady, Tina Montgomery. We do share the same first name.

Dean Dixon is a very unhappy man. He has attitude with just about everyone in his life. He was not always this way. But once he wife cheated on him and left him to raise their son, he turned into a bitter man. His brother did not help, leaving to do the rodeo thing turn magazine cover model. But now that his brother is back with is pregnant wife, things should get better right.

Tina Montgomery has worked hard all her life. She is trying to land a major magazine cover so that she will get a promotion that will help her with her dreams. She is saving all her money to buy a house for her sister, niece and her to life in. Her sister does not seem to care. She leaves her daughter with Tina all the time to chase after the latest hot cowboy who has shown any interest in her.

Tina is spending the weekend at Dean’s ranch to do a photo shoot that is guaranteed to get her a job promotion that she wants, she needs. But once Dean and Tina lay eyes on each other, you can actually see the sexual tension. They tried to be professional but sometimes crossing that line for just a taste of heaven is worth it all.

This book was a great story of love and learning to trust and believe in people again. I loved the funny banner between Dean and Tina. There were plenty of laughs throughout the book too. Looking forward to the next in this series.
