Rate this book
In 1982, conflict erupts between Great Britain and Argentina, putting important forces into play. Argentina decides to seize the Falkland Islands, which had been occupied by the United Kingdom since the beginning of the 19th century. On April 2, an island landing of Argentine forces succeeds, taking the government of Margaret Thatcher by surprise. Argentina asserts its sovereignty over the Islands. While hoping for a diplomatic solution, No. 10 Downing Street prepares a large-scale operation to regain control of the Falkland Islands. Along with the use of traditional combat techniques, these operations also provide an extraordinary test of modern electronic weaponry.

It was 40 years ago around this time that the Falklands War started. I never really understood this war, so I picked up this graphic book. I understand it less now.

Graphic literature is not well suited to conveying complex historical facts, and the problem is made worse by this being 50 pages.

In the scant few pages of this book, it focuses almost exclusively on the weaponry and vehicles involved in key battles, rather than fully address the geo-politics or cover at all what life was like for those whose homes were invaded and became war sites.

I think all authors of all future books and stories about any wars or conflicts should feel morally compelled to not valorize the violence and ignore the costs to those caught in the crossfire of war.

This comic on the Falklands war is quite short at just 48 pages, and that’s far too short to tell a cohesive story, it is more that there are disordered vignettes loosely tied together. Art is decent but it it fails as a book, needed to be triple the length at least.

(Agreg alert) Basic retelling of the Falklands war in comic form, very easy to read and memorize (visual learners). Another easy recommendation to lay out the basics for agreg prep. Due to the series' focus, the focus here is on weapons, planes, and ships, not the political aspects, but it does a good job with it. if you're into military strategies and objects, the drawings are very precise.
