War is in my blood. But it's my heart that will betray me.
Born in the north from a line of warriors. Banished to the west with my father and brother. Raised to hunt the monsters that threaten our snowy mountain home.
With my wolf at my side, I will protect my family from the Blacksmiths, whose dark magic corrupts the land.
Always, I follow our most important rule: Do not go near the Blacksmith city.
But when I find a Blacksmith woman half-buried in the ice, her fingers blue, her hair like silver, and her breath a whisper in the freezing air—she invokes the light in my heart, binding my fate to hers.
All without a single word.
Do I deny my heart and leave her to perish?
Or do I risk everything to save her?
With every choice I make, betrayal shadows my fate.

This has got to be one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. This book takes you back to the very beginning and explains the back story of Asha and Vandawolf which makes you love this pair even more, the strength and love they have for family and what they do to protect the ones they love is just amazing. It then jumps back into the present day and picks up right where the last book finished. I really can’t say much as I don’t want to give anything away and you really need to read this without any spoilers. All I can say is this books is amazingly written and has such an interesting storyline that you are hooked from the very first page until the last. I cannot wait for the next book to find out what happens but am also sad that it will be the last one in this series as I really don’t want to let these characters go
What an amazing backstory to show how Vandawolf came to be who/what he is. This helped me to understand the Vandawolf so much more. His story is not easy, it’s full of pain and heartache, but it honestly makes you feel for him in a way I hadn’t before. I would definitely recommend reading books 1 & 2 in the Kingdom of Betrayal series before starting this one. I’m excited for the follow up book!
Author Duo Delivers a New Point of View and Backstory Magic
Seasoned author, Everly Frost, works with debut author, Julian Madden, to craft an incredible tale that intertwines personal stakes with grand, sweeping conflicts. From the first word, this book plunges readers into a vividly imagined world where the clash of powerful forces and the struggle for survival drive the narrative. Keep the tissues nearby! Emotions run high as book 3 of the Kingdom of Betrayal series tells us how Erik becomes Vandawolf. The writing is immersive, hauntingly beautiful and pulse-poundingly thrilling. It pulls readers into a whirlwind of feelings and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
For new readers, this is book 3. However, Part I, the first 70% of A Storm Like Iron, is backstory and an alternative point of view leading up to where book 2 left readers hanging. This part could be read before or after the first two books, though beware, reading this first will create some spoiler situations. Personally, I like its placement in book 3.
If you are in the mood for an immersive, action-filled fantasy with a strong emotional center, this book is worth the read.
🐺Length: Novel
🔨Genre: Epic/high fantasy with a dash of romance (elves, dragons, monsters, and more)
🐺POV: First person, male main character
🔨Age: Adult
🐺Warnings: Language, sexual content, violence/character death
🔨Spice: Not the focus of this story, but there is loving on page
🐺Violence: This is a violent, war-torn world with political machinations, life threatening betrayals, and violently evil villains. Much of the violence is battle-focused action with some intimidation and torture. Characters die.
🔨Editing: The pacing is fast, with moments of heart-wrenching action balanced by quieter, introspective scenes that allow for character development and reflection. The authors’ styles merge seamlessly. Maybe a few minor grammatical things, none that stood out enough for me to remember.
🐺Series: Kingdom of Betrayal: Book 3
🔨Tropes: Enemies-to-lovers, morally grey protagonists, family drama, overwhelming odds, fate
🐺Ending: This is a cliffhanger, and it hurts so good...this book will linger in your mind long after you have turned the final page.
This book is nothing short of incredible! Erik’s story is a masterful blend of darkness and destiny, with every twist and turn meticulously crafted to keep you on the edge of your seat. The powerful journey that leads Erik to Asha is brilliantly executed, with a narrative that will shatter your heart, then painstakingly piece it back together. The much-anticipated backstory of the Vanderwolf and the deeper insight into Asha’s mysterious past bring a new level of understanding to their world and fight. The writing, nothing short of spectacular, delves into the dark psyche of Malak and his followers, offering a compelling explanation for their actions and the methods behind their madness. The author’s descriptive prowess shines through, painting vivid scenes and creating characters that leap off the page with raw emotion and depth. Each beautifully written scene is a work of art, and the quotes linger in your mind long after you've turned the page. It’s a testament to the author's ability to transport readers directly into the heart of the story, making you feel every moment as if you’re living it yourself. The characters in this book, and the series as a whole, are captivating and complex, with storytelling that is truly exceptional. For fans of paranormal fantasy, this series is an absolute must-read. I’m eagerly counting down the days to the final installment, desperately hoping for the well-deserved happily-ever-after these characters have fought so hard for.
⚔️ ⚜️ Book Title - A Storm Like Iron ⚜️ Author - Everly Frost & Julian Madden ⚜️ Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Romance and Fantasy
I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book via the author. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is my honest review.
I’ve been excited to dive back into the Kingdom of Betrayal series. Actually, I’m always thrilled to return to Everly’s books. I really enjoy how Everly writes, develops her characters, and creates such unique worlds.
In this installment, we get more Vanderwolf, and the emotional damage is worth it. It was an epic adventure... but I’ll leave it at that to avoid any spoilers.
I would recommend this book to others and definitely will look for other books written by this author. I think the next book is the last in the series? I’m excited what’s to come.
I want to say thank you to the author for the ARC.
Note (How I rate): One is DNF. Two is got there but struggled. Three stars is a good, enjoyable read. Four is an excellent read and five is a comfort read that lingers with me for life (very difficult to get but not impossible).
Ok ok I keep saying this with every new book Everly brings out, but this book is incredible! I don't want to spoil this fantastic story, so I will keep this brief! We go back to the start of the Vandawolf's beginning with his brother and father! The emotional roller-coaster we are taken on will drag out every feeling! Then, in part 2, we delve right back into the continuation of book 2! Everly's world building, storytelling, and characters are top tier and helps you immerse yourself fully into the characters and their surroundings! I loved that she co-wrote this with Julian Madden (who is new but has managed to do incredible work alongside Everly with this story!) I cannot wait for the final book in this series, A Soul Like Glass! Asha and Erik may be my favourite couple of Everly's to date!
I'm wrecked and trying to piece together the ruined shards of my heart. Why do I do this to myself!? I open a book by Everly Frost and attempt to do my best not to end up a broken sobbing mess. But I'm never successful at guarding my heart. Never. And this edition in this unputdownable series packs all the punches with a frenzied ferocious that leaves the reader breathless.
This book was everything I didn't know I needed. We are given the backstory, and of course, it's angsty and utterly heartbreaking. Who wouldn't fall for Erik even more!?
And the ending is brutal in true Frost fashion. I desperately want to cling to hope that this isn't an ending and that the plateau won't let me fall. But... I just keep replaying that conclusion in my mind, and it wounds me each time. Ms. Frost will certainly be able to bathe in the tears of her readers from this unforgettable tale.
This is a beautiful installment in the Kingdom of Betrayal. In normal multi-book series, I recommend starting from the beginning or you will be lost. In this case, if you haven’t read the series yet, you could start with Part I here, then read book 1, 2, then Part II. Definitely wait to read Part II until you’ve read the first 2 books. I truly believe either order will work depending on whether or not you like backstory first, or later when you are wondering “why did the character make certain choices?” and then you find out and go “ahhhhh!” I absolutely loved getting the Vandawolf’s backstory. So heartbreaking – and so important to all the choices he’s made. Really enjoyed getting his perspective on things, why the blacksmiths are so hated and what part they played in the destruction of the world around them. You learn in the first 2 that the humans can be just as vicious and cruel, and like any gathering of people, some are good, some are evil, many fit in the gray area, and most are just trying to survive. The Vandawolf has not had an easy go of it and you learn just how much he has sacrificed over the years. Really love his character – his grit, determination, commitment to family and destiny. Love it! This is a FAST read – I just got sucked into the world again and (if you’ve read the first two books first) even though I knew what the final outcome was going to be, I was still fully invested in the journey. Fantastic!
The amazingly talented Everly Frost has teamed up with new to the scene Julian Madden for this third installment in the Kingdom of Betrayal series. It is highly recommended to read books 1 and 2 before this one. You will love them. The writing is so thorough with world building that makes you want to read all of her books. I was captivated from page one until the end. This book starts out with us in Erik's shoes as we see his life before and what led up to him becoming the vandawolf. It was so beautiful yet broken. It answers questions from book 1 that made you wonder why certain events unfolded. It's unfair what Erik and Asha have gone through but it has shaped them well. The last piece has given me hope in the battle ahead but left me on the cliff. I find it mesmerizing how Everly can craft such intricate storylines that tie in and have you rereading her other art so you can piece it all together. I love it! If you gotten this far please go dive in as her art of writing is so amazing! I can't wait to see what her and Julian do next!
A heartbreakingly, emotional, yet highly informative background look into the main characters. Prepare for lots of tears, but it's worth it.
I wish I could give this book a proper review; however, I don't feel like my words will do it justice. My recommendation: read the series and then fall in love with this book like I did. Honestly, I spent a lot of time reading through tears, but I was truly ensnared by this book. My heart broke over and over, but it helped me develop a deeper understanding and background into the characters. It's a book about making impossible choices, sacrificing for those you love, and surviving against all odds. I can hardly wait for book 4.
The heart and soul of this book was truly felt every step of the way.
The first part of this book was so so captivating. We see the world before book 1, and everything that went down. The first part of this book made me appreciate Erik The Vandawold so much more and also gave so much more depth to his character and the world.
The second half is full of brutal heart ache, where lots of little nuggets fall into place and I was gasping at every turn.
I hate to love Everly with this book. It was everything I wanted from Erik's perspective but of course, this book has the worst cliffhanger that kicks you in the gut and squishes your heart.
If you are a fan of The Kingdom of Betrayal series, you need to read this book! In this third installment of the series, you learn more about the Vandawolf’s past, his perspectives, and how he came to be the Vandawolf. The story then picks up where it left off in A Sin Like Fire. It’s tragic yet action-packed and edge of your seat. As with all of Everly’s books, the writing is beautiful and hits all the feels. It’s filled with action humor love and a little bit of spice….all the good stuff! Everly and Julian have successfully put together an exceptional book. Just read it, you WON’T be sorry!
The first 2/3 of the book was a prologue for the entire series and how Asha and the Vandawolf met. I liked it, but wished it was either first, or not included. I didn't feel like I NEEDED the information, but it would have been nice to have at the beginning. The last 1/3 picks up literally right after the last book. It would probably be beneficial to reread the last 4 chapter of the previous book so you aren't lost. There was a bit too much action for me as I tend to prefer to read about character and relationship development rather than battle scenes. I skipped a lot of the battle/action scenes and wasn't lost in the story. I love this interconnected world Everly has crafted.
Having followed this series since its start, I've grown to love the characters of Asha Silverspun and the Vandawolf/Erik. So reading about Erik's past and the horrible things he had to endure while getting to the point of the next book was absolutely heartwrenching! I cried so hard. For his family. For the way he was treated. For his interactions with Malak. For the way he had to manipulate the entire town and Asha in order to keep her and her siblings safe. My heart is broken, and that cliffhanger has only made it worse. This might be the worst book hangover I've ever had. Frost is incredible with her storytelling and world building.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was absolutely incredible and is easily one of my top 3 reads this year!
I don’t want to share too much because it’s book 3 in a series (book 1 & 2 were also amazing), and I’d hate to give away any spoilers. But I will say that this book had me completely invested. It was extremely emotional and will rip your heart out! The 1st part fills in a lot of background and then the 2nd part picks up from the end of book 2.
I love the characters in this book/series and the storytelling is just exceptional. If you like paranormal fantasy then you will LOVE this series. I’m counting down to the final book and hoping for a very well deserved HEA!
This book gave me all the feels. I cried for a long time. For all the pain and heartbreak 💔 and for all the fallen ones. For the unfairness.. for the sacrifices ..and how Fate can be so cruel. I LOVED THIS BOOK. It made me feel EVERYTHING. And even though it broke me… it gave me hope. Theres always hope!
I love this writing style and this story so much!! The way scenes and the characters are described is pure perfection!!! so many beautiful scenes and quotes! It always puts me right in the middle of it and i cant wait for the final conclusion to this book!!!
Wow! This book. My goodness, this book broke me and then put me back together. I sobbed so much. I absolutely loved this book. Written so beautifully, seeing everything that has happened to the Vandawolf and the story of him with his brother and father at the beginning and then continuing the second half from book 2. Just wow. It's truly an incredible book. Read this series. It's just an emotional roller-coaster, and you want more and more because Everly is incredible! A great job co authoring this one!
Thank you for the copy. My thoughts and review are all my own.
The majority of this book takes place during the events of book one and two, it is told from the Vandawolf's point of view and fills In the blanks of his past and how he became what he is and how he met Asha.
The tail end of the book picks up from where book two's cliffhanger left us and was filled with action...oh and another cliffie. Thanks for that Every. This series has been such a delight and I can't wait to see how it ends in the next book.
Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2024 I can’t say enough about this book. The first part answered so many of my questions, even ones I didn’t know I had! There were so many twists that I didn’t see coming. And what can I say about that ending?!?! I know it’s rude to ask but can you please write faster? I need to know what happens ( and I’m sure I’m not alone!) Thank you for another great book.
I’m not always a fan of backstories and changing POV, especially in the middle of a series. But A Storm Like Iron proved me wrong 100 percent! Erik’s story is powerful and riddled with darkness, but the stroke of destiny that led him to Asha was perfectly constructed. Be warned, there is a killer of a cliffhanger for the ending, and I’m not sure how we will get to our HEA, but I am here for it!
3 1/2 stars - I’m taking a star off for ripping my heart out at the end! To take me on that journey and do me like that was just cruel… but really.. it only plays into the delicious tension that this series is so good at. (I’m happy to know there are no cliffhangers in the next book).
The Vanderwolf - Erik and Asher. I somehow forgot about this series while pursuing other stories but the retelling of Erik’s POV at the beginning was the perfect re-entry into this world.
I liked this book as it gives Erik's perception of their story. Villian, victim or hero, a combination of all three at times during his life with Asha. The blacksmiths are cruel people, and humans mean little to them, but Asha has the power to change it all. With great sacrifice, there is great reward. Is it worth it? Well, we will find out in the last book.
OMG, if you thought you couldn’t love Erik (The Vandawolf) more, think again and read this book right now! 💔😭 A wild rollercoaster of emotions and a freaking cliffhanger that will leave your heart hurting and your eyes puffy (I did cry); I can’t wait for the next book! 🖤
This is such a great book! It’s the Vandawolf’s backstory and it’s so good but very tragic and it hurt my heart to read. I really liked learning more about his history. The second part of the book picks up where book 2 left off and the whole thing had me hooked. I just love Everly’s writing and how well she can create beautiful worlds with amazing characters! I can’t wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting seeing the Vandawolf’s perspective in both the past and present. Finding out about his family and the history prior to the first book really tied everything together. I’m looking forward to finishing the series and seeing what happens next! I would recommend this book and would rate it a total 3.5 ⭐️
In all honesty, I don’t think giving Erik his own book was necessary. While I definitely enjoyed his point of view, it could have been done in a few chapters not 75% of an entire book. Nevertheless, the ending was heart breaking and actually made me cry. I need a break from this series but will definitely return to see how it ends after that cliffhanger
I was so happy to get this book, it’s part of the series, a bonus by Everly Frost. It gives us a background of characters, well to me I wanted to read on the vanderwolf. I had a few tears , I must admit but she can tell a good story. Looking forward to more!
