Following a toxic breakup and expulsion from art school, Ember struggles to find acceptance in the exclusive world of "true" artists.
But when she's invited to demonstrate her skills at a local underground art competition, Ember's shown the way to overcoming her many personal demons by embracing her darker side.
But how far will she go in pursuit of artistic fulfillment...and what is she willing to lose in the process?
So the Prologue picked up from the first book and Chase finally lets us know Tommy's fate. Before leading us down another path, another unsuspecting victim Ember. The Artist Gallery as any business changes to meet the needs of their clientele. So, I knew it would only be a matter of time before the artistic desires clashed with the world of underground art. Especially with us being in a time where artists like Banksy have made notoriety through street art. Hiding behind the mystery of anonymity, making the artist all the more popular. Ember comes flying in front of the reader heartbroken and eager to even the score with her cheating boyfriend. Another resident in the Cleveland area, which makes me think Avarice showing up in Cleveland for Tommy was no coincidence. With Best friend Julie in tow, ready to back up her friend. “Julie was the only one she truly trusted…and for good reasons. She’d seen Ember at her worst and still loved her like a sister.” This was the line that made me understand their level of friendship and relate to their bond. Instantly feeling like Ember was a kindred spirit to me in my younger years. The big difference between Tommy and Ember's experience is that Ember was aware of the truth. Nothing is given to you for free, unlike Tommy. Ember is understandably cautious in comparison. Even taking Julie along as back up, which isn't a bad plan in retrospect. However knowing how the first book panned out, I can't help but even at that point in the story. Worry for Julie's safety in this situation, as neither of them know exactly what they are walking into. However Chase really switched up my expectations, instead of desperation for fame or money. This story focuses on the emotional need for approval and validation, something Avarice really enjoys toying with. That first night at the Gallery Competition plants the first seeds of doubt in Ember's mind. No matter how much Julie tries to convince her she was better off being as far away from that world as possible. The memory of losing, the humiliation and defeats eats away at her soul. Depression ravages her mind and self doubt clouding her judgement, forcing her to reflect back to her own trauma. The loss of her father, the coldness of her mother all of it comes crashing down on top of her. Just as Avarice planned, because of course exploiting a person's weaknesses is what he does. Then right in the middle of all this Audrey comes into her life after meeting at the competition. It only gets worse from there, as like Tommy, Ember falls down the rabbit hole into the horrifying world of the Artist Gallery. Falling deeper into her worst nightmare as she suffers loss, shame and torture. Only to unlock something truly unique, which creates for an immense showdown and a hell of a twist for the ending. Chase writes another gripping and brutal read that will capture all five senses and transport you to a world of pure unbridled madness.
I was extremely impressed with this sequel! It's not often that I enjoy a sequel equally or more (in this case) than the prequel. I said it before but Chase Will is an author to keep your eye on! He has a talent when it comes to writing compelling stories that are filled with everything that makes a story successful. The way things are left in this one leads me to suspect a third installment in this series ;) I sure hope that is the case, anyway!
In the start of this sequel it immediately picks up where book 1 ended. Unfortunately, Tommy did not escape the creator like he thought he did. However, in this story we are focusing on a new character named Ember. Ember just recently went through a terrible breakup and the woman her boyfriend cheated on her with turned Ember in for underage drinking, getting Ember expelled from the University.
Ember is working and spending time with her grandmother until she figures out what she wants to do to keep her dream of being a successful artist in the horizon. One day, Ember receives a mysterious email about an art competition and that she would receive a nice sum of money just for showing up. Of course Ember decides to attend this competition but she finds the address leading her to a dark secluded building that is locked. So what does Ember do? She breaks in of course. Turns out this was the right building after all and she is just in time for the competition to start. Shortly after the competition starts, Ember quickly realizes that this competition INDEED has quite the catch. A morbid and unexpected catch...There is a new "Creator" and the madness is still very much happening but with new people this time around.
I don't want to give too much away because this book is filled with plot twists and creatively dark kills. Will did a phenomenal job with this sequel! I was not expecting to enjoy it as much and definitely not MORE than the first book. This book had me in a chokehold and didn't let go until the last page and left on a GIANT cliffhanger! Will knows how to lure his readers in and leave them craving more!
This was just as BRUTAL as the first book and very engaging. I was so captivated by Will's writing and was on the edge of my seat to know what would happen next.
This book grabbed me hard from the first page and did not let go. An incredible story that’s well-written and has some great characters in the mix as well. I’m curious where the third book will go and can’t wait to read it!
I was so excited when I found out this 2nd book was coming out and it did not disappoint! Will look forward to reading any additional stories in The Creators universe
Man this book comes in hard, and doesn’t stop! Will has an amazing ability to get into your brain and not let go. Pure talent, everything is precisely planned with seamless follow through, yet still leaves you on a wtf note. Oh man, does he leave us on one magnificent cliffhanger. Can’t wait for the third segment!
Introduction: Art can be produced with a variety of techniques. One can use the bristles of a brush with paint to color and shade the page, even fingers with ink to permanently warp their canvas with symbolic stains of their identity. An artist can carve into wood or rock to structure what was once a mere idea, simple stone and mud to document on cave walls. Pens and pencils can alter and scar the paper pages of a journal, and even metaphorical, and skin too can be tattooed to bring further art to a living, breathing canvas. Literal blood, sweat and tears can also be utilized to bring the inner vision to life for all to witness. All of these methods can give immortality within a mortal world to the thoughts and feelings otherwise locked behind the prisons of its physical keeper: the brain.
How desperate are you to possess such a legacy?
Main Review: Woah. Woah! I was already hyped by the reviews boasting on this story’s creativity, but this one absolutely over-delivers! Like a sketch in a book altered and improved, the story expands on its details and characters as well as that of the first entry in the series, throwing into a thrilling continuation with new and existing characters. We learn more and more about them and their settings as that sketch becomes lineart and the colors are filled in. The shading darkens the further along we go, subtle sprinkles of light completing the picture as we reach our brutal conclusion. A rollercoaster ride that straps you in for the long haul, this entry to the ‘Where Dreams Are Entombed’ series will no doubt hold your attention all the way through and leave you eager for more by its end. I certainly recommend it!
