When Ivy Leavold is left destitute by her brother's death, she is taken in by her cousin's brooding, tortured widower—Julian Markham. Handsome and possessive, it's not long before Ivy falls for him.
But Mr. Markham has dark secrets, secrets that may put Ivy in danger…
The Awakening of Ivy Leovold The Education of Ivy Leavold The Punishment of Ivy Leavold The Seduction of Molly O’Flaherty The Wedding of Molly O’Flaherty
Narrated by Shane East, Zara Hampton-Brown, Roxy Isles, Gary Furlong
Very gothic, I found the back & forth, the dramatic “I shoudn’t”, “I can’t”, “I must”, etc. quite tiresome. After book 3 I accepted the style of story and (mostly) enjoyed it. The narration is wonderful, with a couple of my favorites. Honestly, I bought this collection based on the narrators, and the fact that this is about the only thing of Sierra Simone that I hadn’t read yet.
I would say this is close to a 3.5....So if GR ever gets on board with .25, .50 and .75, that would be greeeaaat. Anyway, I like spice, but holy hell, this was suuuuuper spicy. I listened to all five of these books, and there did end up being a plot, especially in the last two, but wow. It was almost too much, even for me. It is also a #whychoose, so if you aren't into that, skip this. I wanted to read this because I like Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone's collabs, and I will say...she sure knows how to write sex scenes. I also felt the narration was spot on, especially Julian and Silas.
This collection of stories particularly the Ivy Leavold reminded me of a dirty horny version of A long fatal love chase/Jane Eyre/ Rebecca. It had that dark lovely Gothic tone mixed with hot summer heat. In the end I didn't care much for Ivy and Julian's dynamic as dom/sub tropes are just not my thing. It was a drastically hot and interesting series of stories nevertheless. This was my first dip reading stories from this author.
I'm not sure how Sierra Simone manages to write smut that actually has a story line but she does... still, this is some of her older work (reissued as a collection more recently) and it's okay. So far, I've read the Ivy & Julian related books only and still have to get to Molly & Silas. They do kind of get tedious. Starts of strong with some good smut but then you're sort of bored by Ivy's indecisiveness and Julien's uber possessiveness and the last book and novella (they really all felt like novellas) was especially not good and bought the whole series down. Also, the timeline just doesn't work for me. Still, if you like Sierra Simone and are looking for some smut, no one does it better.
Update: finally read Molly and Sirius’ story and this has SO much potential but really fell flat mostly bc it absolutely made zero sense. And the ending was so absurd. So losing half a star.
I love this collection! The first three books tell Ivy and Julian's story. With all her family gone Ivy, travels to Markham Hall to work for her deceased cousins husband.
We met Molly and Silas in the first book and the last two tell their story.
~*~ Audiobook Review ~*~ Seriously hot collection of historical romance with excellent narration! Sierra Simone knows exactly what she is doing to us. This collection of stories centered around Markham Hall will burn you to the ground! Plan accordingly!
This series was exactly what I needed and never knew. I devoured the entire thing in a weeks time. I left more in detail reviews for each book on the invidual books pages.
Book1. The Awakening of Ivy Leavold Book2. The Education of Ivy Leavold Book3. The Punishment of Ivy Leavold
London Lovers Duet Book4. The Seduction of Molly O’Flaherty Book5. The Wedding of Molly O’Flaherty
This was love at first listen! This remains my FAVORITE of Sierra’s series. When I first listened to the audiobook of the Awakening of Ivy Leavold, I was instantly drawn to the dark and naughty Jane Eyre and Beauty and the Beast vibes. This felt like she wrote this just for me to fan girl over. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books of all time. This was by far one of the raunchiest historical romances that I’ve ever read!! The spice scale starts at 🌶️🌶️🌶️.
The London Lovers Duet was equally awesome. I highly enjoyed the chemistry of between Molly and Silas. And the spice in this was DeLicIOUs! 🥵🥵🫶🏾🥵🥵
This one is perfect for the historical romance lovers!! Run 🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️. Also, GEt the AUDIO!!! I said what I said. Shane East is one of the narrators. Yummmm! Overall, Loved this read!❤️
This series just wasn't for me. I DNFd at the beginning of book 3. I admit that a hard dom just doesn't do it for me especially when the MMC doesn't seem to actually like the FMC and sees her solely as a possession to control. This skated too close to The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (also DNFd) with non-con that is probably supposed to be interpreted as CNC? Or maybe I was just supposed to remove any ideas of the FMCs agency because it is a period piece and I was unable to suspend disbelief? Although I didn't get far enough to get the full resolution of the mystery sub plot I thought it was a bit predictable and I bet if I googled it I'd be right about the outcome.
