In the heart of the premier book conference, two unlikely companions find themselves unexpectedly entwined in a whirlwind of chaos caused by technological mishaps, a vindictive ex-girlfriend, and publishing challenges in this gripping novel by #1 New York Times bestselling Author Melody Anne, and debut author Phoenix L. Beecher, a mother-daughter team, that seamlessly blends experience and fresh perspective promising a literary journey filled with unforeseen and heartfelt revelations.
Miles Bennett, a successful fantasy author known for his exhilarating stories and stunning worlds, and Emily Parker, an aspiring poet and avid reader head to Denver for the biggest book conference of the year, ready to take on a weekend of relaxation and fun.
Due to a technical error, both Mason and Emily end up assigned to the same room at the Gaylord Rockies, with not a vacancy in sight.
As they find themselves sharing quarters at the hotel, the challenge of cohabiting with someone seemingly incompatible becomes evident. Initially intending to spend as little time together as possible while relishing the conference individually, their course changes with the arrival of Vanessa.
Miles, grappling with the aftermath of his breakup, discovers that his ex-girlfriend, a high end cover model, is not only attending the conference but has booked a room at the same hotel and would very much like to take her place back in his heart. Desperate to avoid awkward encounters and prying questions about his personal life, Miles is relieved when Emily agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend, weaving a web of fictional romance to shield Miles.
As the charade unfolds, Miles and Emily find themselves drawn into a world of make-believe that blurs the lines between fiction and reality. The more they pretend, the more they discover about each other's hopes, dreams, and the scars of the past. In the midst of the literary chaos, the unexpected plot twists of their own hearts begin to unfold.
As they navigate the conference's literary delights and confront the emotional baggage they carry, Miles and Emily discover that the best stories are often the ones written by fate. The charade, initially a protective shield, becomes a journey of self-discovery and love. In the backdrop of Denver's enchanting skyline, they craft a story that transcends the pages of Miles' novels and Emily’s poems.
I absolutely loved this book and was hooked from page one. These authors did an amazing job and I felt their emotions and couldn’t put this book down. It’s a refreshing and fun book. Loved the book signing and learning of some of the authors. We also get some scenes with Katherine Anderson and her daughter in law Amy. Loved how well Miles and Emily got to know each other. But who will finally make the first move? This book is worth re reading. Loved their happy ever after too. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.
This was such a cute story! I personally struggled a bit getting through it, the way the story is told isn’t my favorite. I just prefer to be in a pov not outside of the characters. Also the main character and his twin brother share the names of my nephews so I did struggle getting past that🤣 but I definitely recommend this book!
What a fun, interesting story. These two met in a very funny, yet unplanned set of events. The take from just being making the best of a situation, turns into so much more. Wonderful and enlightening story of all that's possible. Loved it!♥️
I am a romance girly through and through, but I tent to lean towards mafia/dark romance or romantasy more than anything else, so this was a little out of my comfort zone but it sounded cute so I figured why not??
Now, let me start off by saying I have already read 40 books so far in 2024, I am a BIG reader.
That being said, this book is probably one of my top five favorite reads of the year so far!! 🩷
First of all, I loved that it showed just a little sneak peak into the world of being a writer, not just what everyone sees but the writers blocks, deadlines, pressure. The less glamorous side of things.
Also, i know some might not share my opinion but i am a sucker for a good fake relationship turned real relationship trope, and this one was absolutely adorable, but also held that little bit of spice that i loved! I loved the dynamic between Miles and Emily. I related to Emily SO MUCH! As I am also a book loving introvert trying to dip her toes into writing I found myself so easily falling into her shoes and feeling what she’s feeling! And MILES. I am absolutely in love with his character. He’s not your typical male main character who is made out to be this god of a man with chiseled abs and is the perfect specimen of a man. He’s so real, and such a gentleman. How he goes out of his way to do the things he thinks she will truly enjoy just because she will enjoy them and not because he’s trying to be a big shot and show off. The little things he does like the stamps! My heart! And one line in particular made me so happy! When Emily was struggling with something in her life he asked “do you want advice or commiseration?” LOVE LOVE LOVE THAT! It was such a real thing to put in a book, instead of a man treating her like a damsel that needs saving, he asks her what exactly she needs from him in that moment, his help or just someone to talk to, and I think that’s amazing!
This book shows the ups and downs and drama of relationships in real life. Other than the fact that one could only be so lucky as to have a hotel mix up ending in dating a cute author 🤣🤣 but I loved absolutely everything about this book! I have already, and will continue to recommend this book to others!!
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book has me feeling like I was in a romantic comedy. It was so fresh and the characters were both so likeable!
The Female Main character was an aspiring poet working a crappy job with a jerk of a boss. Meet Miles the male main character, a famous author who is trying to land a book deal.
These two meet under unusual circumstances to say the least. The hotel has a glitch in their system and ended up booking Mikes and Emily in the same hotel room for an author conference. They both end up sharing the hotel room because there are no other rooms available. From there the two end up fake dating to keep one of my Mile's ex girlfriends away from him. This hilarious book has me giggling and rooting for the two main characters to fall in love for real as they navigate this author conference and their growing feelings for each other.
Read if you enjoy:
-One Bed -Forced Proximity -Fake Dating
5 stars for me! I highly recommend Paper Hearts and Plot Twists!
This is the first book I’ve read by Melody Anne or Phoenix L. Beecher. I enjoyed it for the most part. I was really excited to read this story. It has some of my favorite tropes (fake dating, one bed, forced proximity), and it was a slow burn. I loved the premise of the book: bookish FMC meets author MMC at a book conference and a string of events leads to their fake dating. But for some reason, I didn’t connect with the characters, so I wasn’t very invested in the outcome of their story. That being said, I was also just in a weird place personally with a lot of stress – so I think given a different set of circumstances (like less stress in my personal life), I could’ve come away from this book feeling completely differently.
If you enjoy the tropes in this book (strangers to lovers, fake dating, one bed, forced proximity, slow burn), I hope you’ll give this story a chance. I will certainly be reading their next one. This book was written in 3rd person dual POV.
I received an ARC copy of the book and all thoughts are my own.
Paper Hearts and Plot Twists is a sweet and slow burn romance. This book is a story about two writers at the Cupid’s Quill Symposium in Denver. Due to a technical error both Miles a fantasy writer and Emily an inspiring poetry writer are assigned to the same room. While initially they wanted to spend as little time together as possible that changes when Miles introduced Emily as his girlfriend to his ex. This book had a lot of my favorite tropes such as fake dating , only one bed and forced proximity. I really enjoyed the dual pov in the story since I got to see both main characters going from being annoyed with one another to being in love. I also loved that the author put in a scene where Emily got to meet Miles twin Mason and the interactions they had together. While most of the story took place at the book conference the part of the book that takes place after while they are navigating a long distance relationship really pulls at the heart strings. I’m looking forward to the next book in the Bennett Brother series
This book was absolutely adorable! And a new author to me. I was recommended Melody Anne by a coworker and this book was available on KU so I decided to give it a go. I read it in one evening, staying up till 2 am finishing it! Ha!
Melody and Phoenix leave you needing to know what happens next in this spicy slow burn romance! The attraction is undeniable between the Hero and the Heroine and the banter is so comical! I love the plot involving an author event! I was just getting ready to attend my first author signing event in Seattle shortly after reading and while wandering around and meeting all the new authors and fan-girling, I kept thinking of this book and all the shenanigans behind the scenes!
The love story was absolutely swoonworthy and many butterflies were had! I cant wait to discover my next Melody read (after reading book two!)
i loved this book, so many laugh out moments, especially the 1st meeting of miles and Emily, i love that its set at a writers conference and random real life authors are mentioned, its a great slow burn romance, with great character growth, i really felt part of the characters journey, what more could a book lover need then a romance surrounded by books, there are so many sub characters i would love to read more about, i identify a lot with Emily, you can feel her love of books coming though the pages, i really want to be her, i love how it makes authors feel more approachable too, and you can feel how much these authors truly value their readers,
What a great idea for a plot using real authors at a book signing event! Our hero Miles and heroine Emily end up sharing a hotel room at this convention and of course have many moments that lead to them getting to know each other and realizing what they were missing in their lives. This is Phoenix Beecher’s debut novel and I think she did a awesome job with her plot line, lovely characters, a not so nice character along with humor, sexy time and a lovely journey of falling in love between our couple. I enjoyed the story, characters and how it was all wrapped up so nicely at the end. PH and PT has all the feels of a well written romance. I highly recommend this book.
Actually didn’t know what to expect with this series, but I liked it. Emily grew up with her (uncles) fathers. She had a normal life just not with her parents. She loved to write poetry and her uncle entered her up for a poetry contest and she won a a trip to Colorado for the biggest literary conference. Miles a fantasy writer due to speak at conference and sign books also attend. Some kink of tech mistake places both of them in the same room and eventually the magic happens. Good read.
I loved these characters so much! It was such a fun book to read! It was so good seeing duel perspectives on what Emily and Miles was thinking about each other, it was funny and sweet. The clumsiness, the banter, the forced proximity (forced to share a room) was "chefs kiss". Amazing. Usually I prefer first person, but I loved reading this in third person. Which definitely shows how well this was written. Phoenix and Melody you can 100% be proud of this amazing story!
This book was really well written and the cute light hearted romance made it a breeze to read.
I enjoyed the characters & the story line, whilst it could have had a little more depth to them or the story, I read 90% of the book in one sitting…. One thing I loved the most was the way the authors incorporated authors and books every book lover would know, which made it feel more realistic & able to envision the story.
Miles, a fantasy author and Emily, a poet at heart met at a big book conference in Denver. Miles is there as a best selling novelist. Emily won a package to attend, most expenses included Through a series of computer glitches, a crazy ex-girlfriend and LOL situations, Miles and Emily embark on a new relationship. I love this book so much! I highly recommend! 🌟🌟
This was a great first novel by this mother-daughter writing team. When Miles and Emily end up at a writers conference and accidentally in the same room, let the fake dating romance begin. There are many laughs, and a few tears, throughout this book. I'm looking forward to reading future books in this new series.
This book was sooo sweet. Emily & Miles had me swooning from their first encounter. Parts got a little slow here & there & at times I feel like we missed some parts... but regardless, this book had me giggling. And their happy ending was precious. It's a quick read & all the book references.. adorable! I voluntarily read an ARC of this book & I highly recommend.
This was a cute romance! I found myself smiling at the banter between the two main characters as well as the banter between the brothers. I liked the use of real Authors and books at the conference. I have twin boys so it’s always fun to read about twins in a book! Mine are not identical and are only 8, but still! This was a nice, breezy quick read.
I loved this book. It was a fun and slow burn read. I loved how Miles and Emily got to know each other. This was a great book to curl up and read. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book. Oh and for those that loved the Andersons in Melody Anne’s books there is an Anderson appearance.
I love reading Melody Anne for the feel good factor so this book from the newly published author Phoenix L. Beecher was a must try, and boy it didn't disappoint was a nice flowing book with great dialogue and in-depth character building, you really got to know them and what made them tick and I was rooting for them from the moment she took a tumble from the bed into his lap 😘
While i'm generally a fan of romance, forced proximity, that sort of thing, this was unbearable. I could not get into this book, i did not feel the characters, and their connection was not believable. The book was short, so i thought i'd finish it anyway, but stopped at some point, cause it was getting worse somehow.
Once you start this book you won't want to put it down. Miles and Emily made me smile all the way through the book. Their banter is just so good. Fake dating is my all time favorite trope and this book didn't disappoint.
This is an amazing read. The characters are fun, well developed, and the story has a good pace moving quickly. I enjoyed reading this while remembering how much I like this author.
One of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint . I also love that she brings people from other series such as the Anderson's into other books . The Andersons was one of my favorite series.
A LOL, fake relationship to keep an ex away, 1 room, author conference…and it all turns to a heart racing, falling in love…Grab Miles and Emily’s journey and enjoy!!!
I was given the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I have only recently started delving into romance books, and this one did not disappoint!
I literally stayed up until 3am reading this book one night because as soon as Emily and Miles met I just couldn’t stop. I would’ve stayed up all night to finish it if I hadn’t forced myself to go to sleep.
This is a perfect easy to read romance. The reason I rated it four stars is because I would’ve liked a bit more depth in some of the scenes.
I am absolutely obsessed with this book and these characters, I can’t wait for more!
