This star player, ordinary girl college hockey romance leaves you laughing while sizzling the pages. Because we all know that when it comes to the charade of hearts, love scores the winning goal.

My life is a mess. The last thing I have time for is to fake date Blake Morton, the arrogantly charming captain of the hockey team. But with my grandmother’s looming rent and a paycheck that’s playing hide and seek, I have little choice but to accept Blake’s bizarre pretend to be his girlfriend.

The deal is simple—no strings attached, just play the part and collect the payment. Easy, right?

Wrong. Emotions don’t play by the rules, especially when you’re teamed up with someone who’s supposed to be nothing more than an arrangement.

I come from a world where every penny counts, while Blake has everything—a sizable trust fund and effortless talent. Yet, as our charade deepens, so do the glimpses of vulnerability behind his perfect facade, and the more I fall for the real Blake.

My job was to fend off distractors, not become one. As lines between reality and make-believe blur, I’m left Can my feelings withstand the ultimate test, or will they prove to be the most compelling distraction of all?

Surprisingly cute college romance!! I very rarely read college romances because they smack of silly drama but their relationship was cute and had the echoes of real life. It's also one of the only times I've ever liked the idea of fake dating!! Normally I detest that trope but I liked it here!!

*Remember that when I'm rating romances, I rate them in the genre/for the intended audience. Deke Me's intended audience is for those who love college romances! If you're a typical college romance lover, you'll probs love this one!!

****Thank you to Rae-Allen Publishing for the advanced reader copy. I received this book for free, but all thoughts are my own. – SLR 🖤

4.5/5✨
3/5🌶️

I wasn't too sure about this book, judging by it's cover 🤭 (not a big fan of these kind of covers 😅). But surprisingly the story was pretty good and I was hooked by the relationship of the main characters - so I shouldn't always judge a book by its cover. Also, I've learned along the way that the meaning of the title comes from fake dating 😁.

Blake is the captain of the Cessna U hockey team. Amanda majors in medicine and wants to follow oncology, because of her mother. Things aren't that easy for either of them because they have to face different issues that come between them and their dreams. Blake needs to face his father and his wish to take over the family company instead of pursuing his own hockey passion. Amanda works very hard to be accepted at Memorial's Internship, but she has her own enemies plotting against her, especially after starting to fake dating Blake.

The whole story about fake dating started when Blake was hiding from one of his stockers, being tired of running from them. So, the first thing that came into his mind was to lie about having a girlfriend and Amanda was the one who just crossed his path and was trustworthy. When his mother pressed him to another date, he was sure he will do anything to escape that. Again, Amanda was his savior and accepted his proposal.

Of course, it's a thin line between pretending and starting to have real feelings. Especially after getting to know each other better and seeing their own struggles.

I laughed a lot when their friends were present, Maddie and Ryan, who added something more to the whole story. I kinda hated Blake's family for not understanding him and because they pressured him even though his sister was much more appropriate for that company position.

Overall, the book was way better than I expected, after I saw that cover 🫣. I can say that it had a bit of Icebreaker vibes 🤭.
I recommend it if you like these tropes:

🏒 college romance
🏒 hot, arrogant hockey captain MMC x curvy, caring med student FMC
🏒 fake dating
🏒 he falls first

This is my first Kimberly Readnour book, and I really enjoyed it.
I thought Blake and Amanda had such a sweet relationship, and the writing showcased their love, struggles and everything in between really well. Blake was the perfect mix of arrogant, sweet, caring and charming. Amanda was such a great mix of smart, determined and caring. This was definitely a tamer hockey romance than what I usually read, but the little bit of spice that was present was great.

One of my favourite tropes…fake dating, throw in a hockey player and a non sporty, independent, feisty female and it’s a recipe for a fab story!

Blake is captain of the hockey team and he has a lot to focus on this year, he needs to knuckle down and lead his team to the frozen four playoffs and prove they are worth their inclusion as a D1 team. What he certainly doesn’t need is any distractions or over enthusiastic bunnies taking up his time!

Amanda is determined to achieve her goal and become a doctor, her life has been one big sacrifice to make that happen….studying hard, working two jobs and volunteering all come at a price….she has zero balance, no down time. She’s not a party animal by any means but her dedication to her studies is all consuming.

Blake needs Amanda to help him keep his life on track, no distractions so they make a deal. Fake date for a set time and go their separate ways…..oh how we laugh at that!!! We know that’s never going to happen!!

These are two lovely characters, with realistic problems and a grown up approach. Their agreement quickly becomes a wonderful friendship grounded in honesty and trust.
They have a wobble, but it’s for a genuine reason. I really enjoyed this. I appreciated both their situations and felt for them both as they tried to navigate all the pitfalls to make sure they weren’t sacrificing everything for others.
The supporting characters were also great and brought a lot to the story. I’m looking forward to the next visit with this hockey team!

Deke Me is the first book in the Cessna U Hockey college age romance series. Amanda is doing everything she can to reach her dreams of becoming a doctor who opens up a cancer center that gives affordable care to underprivileged individuals. She’s always studying, working or volunteering and the last thing she needs is Blake Morton, the Cessna U hockey captain. Blake comes from a completely different background that Amanda and has a job lined up as CEO of his family’s company after graduation. Too bad that’s the last thing he wants. When Blake needs a girlfriend to stop his matchmaking mother from setting him up with yet another woman he isn’t interested in, he asks for Amanda’s help. The rules are simple and both Amanda and Blake will get something out of their platonic arrangement, at least until the feelings start. Will Blake and Amanda be able to keep up the fake dating charade without actually falling for each other? It’s the last thing either of them needs right now, but it might just be the best thing that ever happens to them.

I am always on the lookout for a great college sports romance, especially hockey, and this one fit that description. I loved this book from the very beginning. Give me a fake relationship, college romance and chemistry and I am always going to be in! I loved Blake and Amanda separately and together and enjoyed seeing their relationship bloom. I have never read any of the other Cessna U books before, but I will definitely be going back to check out the other sports series in this universe. If you are looking for a romance that will pull you in and be hard to put down, give this one a chance! I can’t wait to see what else comes in this series!

This is book one and an interconnected standalone in Kimberly Readnour’s new series. The story is told in dual first person POV and will have you feeling all the emotions. This could be a day or two read, but it took me longer than expected to finish (at no fault to the writing/writer, just life in general with work and three boys playing sports everyday except Sunday).

I liked the “fake dating” aspect, but I loved that Blake fell first and fell hard. What started out as fake quickly turned into something so much more. I loved that Blake was so protective of Amanda and wasn’t afraid to stand up for her. I didn’t like that he proposed to Amanda the idea of being his “girlfriend” to keep his mother and all the ladies from approaching him, but didn’t try hard to turn them away when they approached. He did end up redeeming himself though.

I loved Amanda’s determination when it came to her career path, her work ethic and how she was able to overcome her challenges that arose with “dating” Blake and her college path. I loved that (for the most part) she was able to ignore the bullying that was aimed towards her and keep her happy demeanor. I loved that she too, was so protective over Blake and came out on top to get her HEA with him.

I’m very excited to read Ryan and Madison’s story. They definitely had my attention when they were in a scene. I was provided an advanced readers copy via Valentine PR. These thoughts and opinions are my own.

The weight of expectations plays heavily on me: mine, my dad’s, Boston’s. But when I close my eyes, I see only one face cheering for me, and it’s not any of them. It’s hers, Amanda. And suddenly, I’m not just playing for my future—I’m playing for ours.

Sports romance is one of my favorite tropes to read. And this one was so good. Not only was it hockey- one of the two sports I love reading about, it was a fake relationship, guy falls first, not your typical tiny blond girl. It was the trifecta of great reading material and it was written exceptionally well. I wanted to read more about Blake and Amanda. I hope to see more about them in future books.

Lately I've been obsessed with romances involving hockey players, so this book was a good start to the saga.

Fake Dating and the fact that He completely falls for her after meeting her is what I like the most.

We have Blake, who is pressured by his father to continue the family business, but all he wants is to play hockey and be one of the best. He's very focused on continuing to win games and stand out, so he doesn't have time for a relationship and he also doesn't want something casual because he thinks it might distract him. I liked his determination about hockey and my only problem with Blake is that when he had to keep his distance from the women, he didn't try hard enough. I understand that he's super popular and all the girls want to be with him, but he didn't want to and instead of being firm in his decision he didn't know how to push them away.

That brings us to Amanda.

I love Amanda until a certain moment. She is a very hard-working, studious girl and her goal is to get that internship she has been longing for a long time. She is a real character, with insecurities and fears. She wasn't on people's radar until she started "dating Blake" and I'm going to highlight her way of dealing with everything they said about her. Yes, she began to feel less for him, but she didn't let those comments interfere with her relationship with Blake... up to a certain point at a party. However, I think that was necessary for both of them to be able to clarify their feelings.

Their relationship started out fake, Blake needed a girlfriend to prevent his mother from matching him with someone strange and at the same time served to ward off women interested in his status as a player. What started as a helping hand grew into something more real. I liked their moments together, especially when Blake became all protective of Amanda. So far, so good, but when the drama started to emerge I feel like the book decayed a bit.

Honestly, it was something I expected to happen, because I already saw it coming. However, there are very few times that I read that it is the male protagonist who takes the first step. This book did it and I liked it.

At times I was more interested in Ryan's story with Madison (to the point of wanting to read more about them than the protagonists), I know that something is going on between them and I am anxious to know how their story will develop.
In short, it is a light book to read, it has funny, tender, a little sad moments and others a little unpleasant (when this girl Juliette appeared).

Thank you Valentine PR and Kimberly Readnour for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

ARC REVIEW

This is the first book I've read by Kimberly and I enjoyed it so much. Now, I'm gonna have to go back and read the entire Cessna U universe.

I am a huge sucker for the fake dating trope especially when it's a sports romance. I loved everything about Blake and Amanda.

At first, Blake seems to be your typical rich cocky playboy hockey captain. But he's really just a big cinnamon roll. He has the weight of the world on his shoulders as all he wants to do is pursue his dreams of making it in the NHL. However, his father is putting pressure on him to join the family business.

Amanda comes from a much poorer family. After losing her mom at 14 years old, she was cared for by her grandma. Amanda works multiple jobs, volunteers all while studying premed.

When Blake gets tired of the constant attention from puck bunnies and from his mom trying to set him up, he asks Amanda to be his fake girlfriend so he can focus on his future. At first, it's just a date here and there but eventually turns into an official fake girlfriend.

One of the things I like about this is that Blake and Amanda weren't entirely strangers. They knew of each other since Amanda is really good friends with Blake's teammate. For me, this helped with the foundation of their relationship.

Overall, this was fun, sweet, angsty, and fast paced and I really enjoyed the characters and the story.

I’ve read so many fake dating books I kinda got sick of it and took a break from reading that certain trope. But I read the blurb for this book and was hooked and wanted to find out how Blake and Amanda’s story went.

Besides the hot changing room scene, this book was boring for me. I was almost going to DNF it but I decided to just push through. I liked Amanda more than I did Blake. She was a strong FMC with admirable goals in life because of what she experienced in her past. Blake, I’ll admit he had a lot of good moments but other than that he was the typical cocky rich kid, not a total douche but knows how easy things can be for him because of his family name and him being the captain of the hockey team.

I won’t be reading Maddy’s book because I did not fucking like her. One thing I hate about some best friends in a book is when they get all up in the FMC’s business, hound her till she spills personal shit but when it comes to questioning the bestie she’s tight lipped, don’t say shit, fucks off thinking only she can ask questions and know about peoples personal life and she doesn’t have to share the same. Annnnnoooyyyyiiinnnggg. Can we write a best friend that respects boundaries 🙄

Blake is a star hockey player and wants to be in the NHL. His dad has other plans though and expects him to take over as CEO of their family company. Amanda is a book worm, studying her butt off to try and get into medical school. She works multiple jobs to help pay her grandmother's rent. One day Blake proposes a plan for her to be his fake girlfriend, and in turn he helps her with the money. Blake has never been a relationship guy and Amanda isn't the normal girl he usually goes for. But their chemistry was undeniable. Blake made her feel safe. The lines got blurred and eventually they both realized they wanted more but how would they make that work? Amanda was a strong FMC. She had been through a lot in her life but she didn't give up and she pushed through. It was sweet watching them fall for each other. I did feel like the ending was a little rushed but I still liked how it played out.

Thank you Valentine PR for the ARC. This is my honest review.

"Because what I want to do with you is deliciously sinful.”

I love Blake and Amanda's story! This was a great read with a roller coaster of emotions from new love, lose, to unbreakable friendships. The connection between these two is amazing and sweet.

Blake is the ultimate book boyfriend! He is attentive, possessive, and his filthy mouth will have you melting. Amanda is his match in every way. She is shy but will fight for what she wants, and she is determined to meet her goals in spite of the consequences. Together, they dodge so many obstacles to be together, and they never give up even if it means sacrificing what they love the most.

If you love hockey romance, fake dating, spicy reads, and he falls first, then you don't want to miss out on this amazing story.

Blake Morton is the captain of the Cessna U wildcats hockey team. He's been drafted by the Maine Pine Skaters when he graduates but needs to clean up his act and keep his nose clean.
He's being pressured by his dad to take over the family business, Morton Textile Incorporation but it's not what he wants to do. He and his dad have a deal but that is changing.

Amanda Hoyt lost her mom to cancer and with all the debt it drives her to study pre-med to become an oncologist wanting to open her own clinic to help low income people. But she needs to get an internship to cover it to continue. She's also sending money home to her Grandmother to help with rent and bills and doing everything she can to get by.

Blake keeps getting hit on by girls on campus, one in particular so he proposes a deal with Amanda for her to be his fake girlfriend and he would pay her. She needs the money and agrees to the deal of no strings attached, just play the part of his girlfriend. Shouldn't be hard, except when feelings start to creep in and she sees the real Blake.

They both have career plans but what happens when they don't go as planned and people interfere?

This is a star hockey player meets bookworm, fake dating with some spice first book of series story. I really enjoyed this book and fell in love with the journey of Blake and Amanda. I really enjoyed the aspect of there being two different economic classes and how they worked through their differences. There are mean girls and of course just the right amount of spice. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series!

This book is everything. I’m coming right off reading a super popular hockey book that shall not be named and this was the palat cleanser I need. It erased to ugh taste in my mouth with oooo taste. Blake is sigh worthy and so damn sweet. The tension is *chef’s kiss.*
Seriously, this is why I need to stick to indie romances. They just hit different.

Deke Me is the first book in Kimberly Readnour's new series Cessna U Hockey and is Blake and Amanda's story.
Blake Morton has one thing on his mind and that is finishing school and heading to the NHL but being the Captain of the hockey team brings a lot of attention and at first Blake loved all the attention but now he just wants to be left alone and focus on achieving his dream. So whilst trying to hide from a girl who doesn't want to get the message that Blake isn't interested, he blurts out that the girl at the bookstore is his girlfriend! After seeing how well his fake girlfriend idea worked he wants to have a permanent fake girlfriend but there is one problem Amanda doesn't like his idea, at all, so he needs to figure out what he can offer her to make his idea a reality.
"I don't need distractions. I need a fake girlfriend."
Amanda Hoyt is barely keeping her head above water, with her two jobs to help her Grandma pay her rent and studying to become a doctor, Amanda definitely doesn't have time for the charming hockey captain. But when he gives her an offer she cannot refuse, Amanda is thrown into a world she never wanted to be a part of.
Spending time together playing the part of Blake's doting girlfriend, is making feelings flood to the surface for both Amanda and Blake, but blurring the line between a fake relationship into more isn't a good idea...or is it?
"We're supposed to be playing pretend, but every shared glance, every brush of her hand against mine, feels like a line erased, a truth written in its place."
Of course once they cross the line and become more, the sparks between them are even more electric than either of them could've imagined and their relationship may have started out as fake but there is nothing fake about what they're feeling.
"Maybe this fake relationship started out as a means to an end, but somewhere along the way, it became something more. Something real."
But can you really start a relationship that will last a lifetime when it started out as a ruse? And add in Blake's family commitments and expectations and Amanda's career dreams, things aren't going to be easy for them, can they find a way to make it work?
Read Deke Me to find out!
I did enjoy Deke Me, but the reason I have rated it 3 stars is because even though I liked the storyline and the characters it didn't grip me, or make me want to ignore everything else around me and get lost in this book and when I did put it down I wasn't being drawn back to it or counting down the time until I could get back to Blake and Amanda. To be completely honest I think if I didn't receive Deke Me as an ARC I probably would have stopped reading it long before The End. I am sad that I didn't fall in love with this book and the characters as I have with Kimberly's previous books but I don't know whether it was me and I just couldn't get into it or something more. But I am looking forward to the next book and to find out what is going on with Ryan and Maddy!
I received an ARC of Deke Me and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

Blake Morton has always had dreams of reaching the NHL and is attending college to appease his dad who wants him to take over the family business. He knows he has to make sure his image is kept spotless for the upcoming draft and needs to focus on his end goals.

Amanda Hoyt works two jobs while going to school to help her grandma cover her rent and medical bills. She is roommates with Madison Grimes who gives her a good deal, knowing what Amanda is going through. She doesn’t get out much and is very surprised that Blake knows who she is while they are both attending a party on campus.

When Blake offers Amanda money to pretend to be his girlfriend in order to keep Blake focused on what he needs to do, she knows she has no choice with her bills getting out of control. Yet can Amanda keep pretending when she begins to see the “real” Blake?

This was a great read and it looks like it’s going to be a good series.

I liked Blake and that he was so much more than just the star hockey player. He had dreams of making the NHL but also had a lot of family pressure which was leaving him very conflicted. His sister had her own business aspirations but because she was female she wasn’t given the same opportunities. Blake had so much guilt over doing what he wanted with his own life and doing what was expected of him.

Amanda was a great character who was also in over her head as she tried to support both herself and her grandma while getting her education. She knew where she wanted to do her practicum but did put back-ups in place. She really didn’t want to pretend to be in a relationship with Blake but also realized how much the money he offered would help her.

There was obvious chemistry between Amanda and Blake but I liked how much they dived into the characters and so you really got to know what they felt and were going through. Amanda and Blake were from two completely different worlds but at the heart was each of them overcoming obstacles to follow their own dreams.

There were a few pretty mean “puck bunnies” and I was shocked at the extent some went to get revenge over a guy that never really gave them the time of day.

The end had some moments that really shocked me and I was devastated for Amanda but I was very happy with how things turned out and I was grateful for Blake’s mom!

Looking forward to the next book in the series!- Rebecca

“More than a game. You’re more than everything.”

Deke Me was an emotional yet fun story that touched my heart. Amanda and Blake were complete opposites, but they complemented one another beautifully. Their fake relationship quickly started to involve feelings and neither were quite sure how to deal with this unexpected development. Their journey showcased a wonderful growth for both characters and will pull at your heartstrings.

“My chest tightens at the sight of her, this girl who’s slowly becoming my own personal blue line—my limit, my boundary, where everything starts to make sense.”

Amanda is a pre-med student that is driven to succeed to honor her late mother. She doesn’t have time for frivolous activities because she’s too focused on surviving. I loved how Blake lightened her up a bit and how he took care of her with so much genuineness. He showed her that she mattered and that there was more to life than studying and working.

“Amanda has seeped into every corner of my mind and heart, making me question things I never thought I would like, what I truly want out of life beyond hockey, and my family’s expectations.”

Blake was the seemingly carefree hockey player who didn’t have a care in the world, but really, the pressure he felt from his family weighed on him tremendously. Amanda was the first person who truly made him feel seen and showed up for him when he needed it.

“I can’t promise you a smooth ride, but I can promise you I’ll fight for us. That I’ll be here for you.”

I loved how strong and mature Amanda and Blake were. They faced their obstacles head on and didn’t run from them even when it caused them uncertainty and pain. They were both willing to sacrifice for one another and were there for each other in ways that no one else in their lives were. Their banter and chemistry was fun, easy and full of heat and the emotional pull of their story was absolutely heartwrenching. This was a wonderful coming of age story that is full of fun and big emotions and I was absolutely addicted to Amanda and Blake’s compelling journey.

Readnour could easily have leaned too heavily on the rich boy/poor girl dynamic here but she does a good job of balancing it. Blake may be privileged but he isn’t snobby and has several moments of recognizing his good fortune, as well as understanding Amanda’s perspective and her pride. Finding himself drawn to her strength and spirit, he soon wants more than a few fake dates.

Amanda has worked hard to get where she is and doesn’t really have a lot of time for Blake or his troubles. But her big heart doesn’t let her just leave him struggling. One good deed quickly leads to another and before she knows it she’s more involved than she expected.

It’s not all smooth sailing. There are mean girl moments and family drama, as well as doubts about what the other is feeling – it did start with a fake date, after all. But they actually, and somewhat surprisingly, talk to each other pretty darn well. It’s refreshing that Readnour didn’t go that route (of course, they have enough troubles without miscommunication being one of them).

This is the first book by this author that I’ve read and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Her writing is easy, her characters are enjoyable, and the story has the right amount of angst & heat. The pacing was perfect too – the beginning is a quick introduction to the characters with a lead up to their agreement, it doesn’t take all that long for them to start to realize that things may not be as fake as they thought, and then we move into their issues on their way to a HEA. I did feel like I’d have liked a little more about where they go next but I’m hoping since it is the beginning of a series we get a bit more of their relationship as we move through the rest of the stories. Which I’m definitely looking forward to reading :)

🔥 A sizzling fake-dating hockey romance that proves love doesn’t play fair—and that’s half the fun. 🔥

When life hands Amanda an empty wallet and her grandma’s looming rent payment, the last thing she expects is an offer from Blake Morton, Cessna U’s star hockey captain. His solution? A deal where Amanda pretends to be his girlfriend—no strings, no feelings, just a paycheck.

Sounds simple, right? Until the lines blur, and what started as an arrangement becomes a connection that can’t be easily dismissed. Amanda’s from a world where every penny counts. Blake comes from privilege and effortless talent. Yet behind his easy smirk is a vulnerability that draws Amanda in, and soon, she’s no longer just faking it. As the pretend façade falls away, these opposites attract with a powerful pull that risks both their hearts.

Why You’ll Love It:
• Fake Dating Fun: No-strings-attached? Easier said than done!
• Hockey Heat: Step into the world of Cessna U’s hockey elite, where the tension is as thick as the ice.
• Opposites Attract: The rich jock meets the determined bookworm, and sparks—and banter—fly.

"Yes, more. I want messy, real, all-consuming blaze of something genuine."

If its hockey romance, I'll read it, if its FAKE DATING hockey romance I'll devour it. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And this book delivered!!!

Overall Rating: ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
Tension: THICKKKKKKKK!

Tropes in 'Deke Me':
♡ hockey romance
♡fake dating
♡overcoming parental privileges
♡ star player x bookworm
♡band of brothers

Blake, our hockey star who is trying to escape his family legacy and come from a family of wealth, is trying to change his image and get away from a meddling girl who is desperate for him but he won't give in, when he stumbles into Amanda, the introverted book worm who wants nothing to do with athletes, gets roped into a fake relationship by Blake.

Amanda is our little bookworm, who doesn't like to party, studies hard and is studying premed to become an oncologist. She's extremely indepentant and works two jobs to pay her grandmas bills herself. When Blake extends this offer of being his fake girlfriend, she refuses at first, stunned, but takes it.

Blake and Amanda have such a unique friendship. The way Blake opens up to her about his family and pressures he's under. Amanda letting Blake know about how hard she works and how little time she has to do things for herself. Nothing is better than when Blake shows her to take a break and helps her let loose, easing some of her financial issues and showing her that she deserves someone to take care of her.

Blake becomes so infatuated with her and praises her beauty. AS. HE. SHOULD. I also wanted to punch Juliette in the face every time she spoke terribly of Amanda! The way that Amanda would feel possessive of Blake when they went out and she started growing feelings for Blake.

And let's not forget the tensionnnnn these two have! Oh my gosh, these two are HAWT! When they would get caught up in the moment and the lines would blur between fake and real. But when they finally give in... Gosh they really get going. He calls her 'princess' even though she is anything but one, but she grows accustomed to the nickname.

I adored this book so much and it was such a fun read. Can't wait to read the next one! Thank you to Valentine PR and Kimberly for accepting my ARC request for a honest review.

Positively incredible read! Blake and Amanda are outstanding MC's with a deep connection, the way they see and think about each other is absolutely puddle inducing, and it's written in a way that makes the whole book feel so much bigger than a fake dating hockey romance.
Her life is a mess. There is no time for her to be fake dating Blake Morton, super hot and cocky captain of the hockey team. But a paycheck nightmare and her grandma's late rent leave Amanda little choice but to accept his insane fake dating offer. It should be easy, no strings, play the role, get paid, then walk away. Easy isn't even in the equation though, when emotions start getting involved. Blake is more than the rich boy she assumed, and Amanda is fast becoming Blake's favorite person to be around. So are they going to be each other's biggest distraction or help each other get what they both want?
Definite binge read; this book is so good! I love how much depth Blake and Amanda have as the main characters, I definitely melted at how often they put the other persons thoughts or feelings ahead of their own which worked so beautifully in the story because they were both doing it, and I loved how fast they, maybe not fully admitted it but at least realized enough to be scared, that they were more than fake dating. It does have a little of everything with laughs and charm mixed in but for me it reads like an epic love with both of them willing to give up everything to be together and that puts it on my would recommend to everyone list, so this is me telling you to read this book asap!

3.5 ⭐️

“And suddenly, i’m not just playing for my future — i’m playing for ours.”

🏒 fake dating
🏒 rich boy/poor girl
🏒 boy falls first
🏒 opposites attract

Blake is the charming captain of the hockey team & Amanda is a bookworm set on joining the medical field. When she is offered the opportunity to be in a fake relationship in exchange for money, she takes it. She grew up poor and was raised to never take handouts, especially from rich men, but she was desperate. Blake was raised to throw money at any problem he comes across. So when he overhears that Amanda needs money & he needs a fake date, he comes to the conclusion that paying her is his best option.

Their relationship turns from acquaintance, to besties, to lovers. They both have to learn how to navigate growing individually while being in a relationship. That includes overcoming obstacles sooner rather than later. I enjoyed their dynamic… it was spicy, funny, and they even had serious conversations.

This is my first book by this author and I did enjoy it. I am a sucker for hockey romances and fake dating. I even appreciate that the side characters were interesting & had me wondering what they were doing during the book. Thankfully the next book in this series will be about them. It sounds like it’ll be enemies to lovers & friends with benefits/no strings attached which I also loveeeeee.

This book is recommended & thank you to the author and Valentine PR for allowing me this ARC. These are my honest opinions 💖

🇺🇸 I really liked the story. I thought the college setting was great. It's a hockey romance story with the trope of fake dating and rich/poor love story. It was exciting, hot/romantic and interesting too. I really liked the characters. Especially Amanda, who fought for her dreams and didn't think about giving up. I also found Blake very likeable, but at the end he got on my nerves a bit with his drama. I would have liked the conflict point to be a bit more dramatic, as it was actually resolved pretty easily. I'm very excited to see what happens next and especially which characters it will involve. I really liked the writing style, but the cover isn't my thing.
A clear recommendation to read

ARC Review:
Deke Me is the first book in the Cessna U Hockey series that introduces us readers to a new hockey college romance to fall in love with! Amanda is barely making ends meet as she is working nonstop to provide for herself and her grandmother. She does not live frivolously and would rather spend her time studying than partying. Who would rather party though, Blake, or so everyone thinks! Blake is Mr. College hockey player. On top of being a star athlete, he can charm any girl to do anything. Until he meets Amanda. Blake needs to get his mom off his back, and Amanda needs money in order to afford to keep living. What do they decided to do? Fake date!

I rated this story 4 stars! I am a sucker for a hockey romance, but throw in some fake dating and I'm a goner! I absolutely loved Amanda and Blake's chemistry from their first interaction at the party. The scene didn't feel forced, and both characters appeared very genuine in the conversation. Throughout the story, both Amanda and Blake were able to open up and share with each other, which I always think is important. Deke Me is another story I would 100% recommend for all of my "were fake dating but I actually like you" fans!

Tropes:
- college romance
- opposites attract
- hockey mmc x bookworm fmc
- fake dating
- he falls first

Thank you Kimberly and ValentinePR for allowing me the chance to read this story!

Rating: 4/5 🌟
Spice: 2/5 🌶️
Characters: Blake and Amanda

Blake a hockey player for his college and has been drafted by a professional hockey team. He is also dealing with the expectations of his father and a bit of drama there since his dad wants him to take over the family business.
Amanda is working towards her degree to be an oncologist. She lost her mother to cancer and wants to open her own clinic for lower income families. She's under a lot of pressure to find an internship while also helping her grandmother financially.
Blake and Amanda agree to fake date - to help him keep the other girls at bay and help improve his reputation, and Amanda gets the money she needs since Blake offers to pay her for it. While they are pretending, they are spending time together and feelings develop.

This was my first-time reading Kimberly, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was sweet and realistic. The romance develops slowly while they both grow and navigate their families and futures.
I do feel like it took me a little bit to get into the story at first, it was a slower start. But once the story took off, I didn't want to stop reading. I loved the chemistry between Blake and Amanda, though I do wish there was a little bit more between them physically. But the romance was very sweet.

I'm excited for the rest of the series.

If you love hockey, fake dating, and opposites attract then this is for you! Deke Me is the first book in the Cessna U Hockey series.

Blake is the hot, cocky, playboy captain of the hockey who comes from a well to do family. Amanda is a major bookworm studying to become a doctor while working a couple jobs to help pay for her grandmothers expenses. When Blake needs to clean up his act for a big hockey donor and also keep his mother from setting him up, he asks Amanda to become his fake girlfriend in exchange for money. The more time they spend together the more the lines begin to blur. They form a bond that they have never shared with anyone else. But can they hold onto their dreams while not giving each other up in the process?

I loved Amanda! I loved that even after all she went through she was humble, sweet, and tough when she needed to be. She was so thoughtful, and cared for the people in her life. I felt for Blake so much. He wanted to chase his NHL dreams but he didn't want to let his family down either. He was willing to give it all up for them. I loved the connection that Blake and Amanda formed. I loved the chemistry and how much Blake looked out for her. No one was going to talk bad about his girl!

Thank you Kimberly Readnour and Valentine PR for the Advanced Copy.
