Her job was to find him, not fall for him.
Pub owner Patrick O'Dwyer disappears right before his pub's locally-famous Saint Paddy's Day 5K race. His staff suspects foul play and engages Durham's surliest private eye to find him.
Dana Slade is a former police detective who got canned after a botched research study warped her DNA. She's a Mutant-American, and none too pleased about it. Her special gifts, unique as they are, hardly make up for her nearly losing her life to an untested drug. If anything, they remind her to never trust a sweet-talking man ever again. It was her ex who signed her up for the study.
She takes the case. Within three hours, she locates Mr. O'Dwyer in a Great Smoky Mountains cabin. He's not only hiding. He's keeping a secret.
Patrick is enamored of the straight-shooting Dana, and knows not to bother trying to tame the shrew. In fact, he likes her attitude almost as much as he likes her curves. For the first time in three years, Dana thinks she might be able to let her guard down, but that changes when Patrick drags himself home beat up and covered in mud. Apparently, there's a feud raging in the mountains and he's right in the middle of it.
As good as he makes her feel, the charming bartender could make her life even more complicated than it already is. Just her luck that the Irishman would come with a heap of baggage instead of a pot of gold.
Warnings: Contains adult language and a scene of explicit sexuality.

"The Problem with Paddy" by Holley Trent was a good paranormal-supernatural read that this author really knew how to get the readers attention so that you will be kept reading till the end. The main character Dana was now a private investigator after being fired from being a cop. Due to her ex husband Dana was experimented on and due to it all she had lost her job. Dana was now a 'shrew.' Now, as a private eye Dana was on a investigation of a missing person...who was Patrick a bar owner had gone missing. Well, she found him within three hours and finds that he had a 'secret' that he was keeping. After talking and sharing and fulfilling the sex act, Dana is thinking maybe something will come of this. But will it? Patrick awakens was acting funny...his eyes had changed color...What is going on? Now, this is where I say that you must pick up 'The Problem With Paddy" to see where the author will lead the reader. What all is going on with Patrick? Would Sarah who worked for Dana be able to help by providing information? When Patrick appears and Billy is there....again pick up this good read to see what will happen next. Would I recommend? YES, but now you must read this story to the end and know there will be another Shrew and Company read in this series.
Great fun. Adorable. Short. Probably sexy, but I read those bits in the middle of the night while waiting for news from a hospital, so I can't be entirely sure.
The characters weren't as developed as I'd have liked, nor was the world. However, as I understand it, this is just a taste before the series truly gets going in the next (possibly longer?) books. The rest of what I disliked was story minutiae and the odd editing error.
But this book was exactly what I needed to distract me from my worry. (Yes, I know that might have left me biased in favour of it, but I'm betting that I'll still like this well enough when I re-read it a few months.)
Not only did this story not hold my attention, it was so poorly edited I was totally confused! The "problem" is this story is a bunch of jumbled words with no substance. Pass this one up. It is not worth your time.
I enjoyed this interesting introduction to the Shrew & Company series. It revealed just enough to pique one's curiosity, while veiling the answers for another day. I have an issue with the author's use of lamebrain pet names the male protagonists use in all the books that I have thus far read. I agree that the male of the species, when aroused, may be somewhat limited, but not so inarticulate all the time in conversation with their ladyloves.
It was a decent enough story. Love at first sight which I'm not a big fan of but I guess it sort of worked. Minor edits needed to be done and distracted from the story a bit.
Dana is hired to find a local bar owner. She finds him, he tells her he is some kind of shifter. They are in love. That sums up the first 40% or so and I didn't feel the need to continue.
This is a great start to a series! This can be enjoyed as a stand alone. The main characters get their HEA, but the major story arc continues. This story seems to be the shorted in the series, but still well worth the read! Dana and Patrick are both interesting individuals and are awesome together!
This story quickly progresses from a slow beginning into a fantastically twisting novel that grips the reader. As the start to a series of books this story opens the door on to a series that will drag the reader into another existence. Wonderfully funny in places and heart-warming in others I think this book is a clear sign to look for this author in the future.
I got about five pages in before I realized I'd need every story in this series! It's a purely Holley Trent premise filled with snark and a little bit of camp. Throw in some paranormal and a hot guy and it's a party!
What an excellent start to the Shrew and Company series. The plot is intriguing and quite different. Interesting concept take from both hero and heroine POV. Holly Trent does write her stories from an entirely different and new angle.
Most Were stories are full of anger and pain, with a whole lot of angst and despair. It was nice to read this. the romance and banter was sweet. I cant wait to read what happens next.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I really liked the characters. Can't wait to read the romances of the other ladies of the Shrew Detective Agency.
I don't know why but I didn't think I'd enjoy this book, but blow me how wrong was I?! I couldn't put it down I will now be off to find the rest in this series amazing five stars isn't enough
